I wish Alex was more accessible, I realize his performing days are probably over, but it would be nice to see him do interviews and talk about his gear over the years as well as his recordings.
Can you start a channel and have him on? Thanks
Where is this foodplace???
@@musicstream26 Just let us know what he thinks of these three rippers paying tribute on his kit here.
Alex van Halen is the most underrated rock drummer of all time
Facts!
Ray has done an amazing job with Korn and a Korn fan I am, BUT He's too damn good for that band. This is another great example of his amazing skills. The guy is absolutely one of thee very elite! WOW, you talk about precision! Awesome that he's playing tribute to Alex. We lost Eddie but Al's still here and should be recognized and apprecited, as such, for the legend he is, while he's still here. P.S. Would love to see Al play again, and would love to hear a new KXM record from Ray. Cheers MD - Thank you!
Amazing player! I’m not into Korn, but everything he’s played on live or studio is fantastic. He sounds like a hard hitter, but man he’s got groove! Also the snare sounds different than when Al plays it. Heavy Artillery! Love this video!
Cheers my friend! @@Kinger1625
Army of Anyone was awesome also
Richard Patrick has continued to say he will eventually do another Army of Anyone album. Hopefully we get another KXM album soon since they only take 2-3 weeks to right and record those albums.
or two to three days rather, that is, lol! I love KXM, especially "Scatterbrain". Cheers!@@leocal1979
Look at the body language. This brotha has it all. The knowledge. The technique. The passion. It’s absolutely glorious.
I love that ray kept the integrity of this songs
If you don't know by now Ray can solo with the best of them. The guy is just incredible!
If anyone knows how to play VH songs it’s definitely the Phenom Ray Luzier. And OMG does that kit sound so good 😮and thanks for killer solo at the end. 🤘🏻🙏🏻🤘🏻
Rays impressions of Dave are always hilarious
Go check out Ray's drumming on "Army of Anyone" it's a project he did with Robert and Dean DeLeo from Stone Temple Pilots and Richard Patrick from Filter....Awesome album
Great band is Army of anyone !
Amazing album and way underrated. Incredible drumming on that record.
@bran70 Yes the when I heard the end part to Goodbye...I was like who's this guy 🤯🤯🤯
@@bran70 completely agree! they has some radio time, but that album was/is phenomenal. should have gotten so much more exposure. but i think Velvet Revolver drowned them out. and they where so much better, but the general audience loves 'basic' music
HhhhheeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEYYYYYYY!!! GOOOOOOOOOOOD-BYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEE!
Ray got me to relook at OU812. It was also brilliant to go after Secrets and Little Guitars..The originals on that album are great. People need to stop bagging on Diver Down
It is not "people" that bag on Diver Down, it was the band itself. Everybody else was pretty fine with it.
@@saulocpp actually Ed said Secrets was his favorite song he wrote.
Diver Down….such a great summer album!!
I’m glad he gave so much love to the OU812 record. I think it’s just so underrated.
What a career, KoRN, David Lee Roth, KXM, played with some of the greatest musicians.
army of Anyone!
Alex Van Halen is my favorite drummer of all time, and this is without question the best explanation I’ve seen as to why. Thank you, Ray! 🤘🤘
I'm betting that Ray "the Groove Meister" Luzier was absolutely stoked to play on Alex's kit (what percussionist wouldn't) . I'm sure Alex would approve
I'm very fortunate to have gotten a backstage drum lesson from Ray in 2014. First class all the way.
9.0 was a rad little band .:) so glad to see dude still crushing it .
Amazing episode, Ray is a phenomenal drummer.
A great tribute to the mighty AVH 🤘
I knew he was good as I am a korn fan, but I didn’t know until more recently how good he really is. You can tell he is a true AVH fan.
Damn, Ray is a bad ass! I can tell he loves Alex’s playing so much. I do too! He is a big hero of mine
Ray is a true teacher
OMG! He did AFU! Yes! always loved that beat!
Alex’s drumming on Outta Love is absolutely phenomenal! Always blows me away. As far as I’m concerned, Alex is right up there with Bonham, Baker, Peart, Portnoy….pretty much all of the killer drummers out there. He belongs on any list of phenomenal, influential drummers. The thing that!s so cool about Alex, is he knew his brother was the spotlight of the band and was always okay with that. Edward’s playing was so original and incendiary, especially when they first came out, it took a killer drummer like Alex to compliment and keep up with him. They definitely had that brotherly, musical connection
Agreed. However those deceased drummers were true innovators. Mike portnoy not so much imho.
Wow. I really enjoyed the solo at the end. I bet Alex's kit really appreciated that
Hands down one of the greats in his own right. He’s up there with the best. Ray blew me away when I watched him live at the Bonzo Bash at namm he truly stood out. Kudos to him for giving a proper tribute to Al.
Ray is the Man! I've been a fan since way before he joined Korn. He's an ambassador to drummers!
You can definitely tell Ray is a true fan of AVH!! Enjoyed watching.
We need more AVH content!!
I had the pleasure of seeing Ray fill in for Kretz of Stone Temple Pilots when Kretz's father passed away in October 2008 and STP was on tour down here in deep south Texas. Ray was fantastic. STP was fantastic.
damn, that kit sound huge, perfect tuning and play...
This was a lot of fun to watch. Alex is my favorite drummer. As Ray said, Van Halen was the soundtrack to my life. Ray did an amazing job and has gained a new fan.
This is the breakdown of Alex’s playing that I always wished for. Thanks Ray!🤘🇺🇸
I’m speechless… This video is absolutely amazing. Thank you to everyone that helped make this video 🤘
what a solo wow
Ray, I’m blown away!!! 🤯👏🔥I’m a guitarist, and was aware you were the drummer from Korn and have seen your name in various situations. As a guitarist and VH diehard, I loved every second of this and wish it was longer!!! I got sucked in because of Portnoy, but was pleasantly surprised with your VH breakdowns as well! Thanks bro, AVH deserves his respect and you gents delivered!!! 💯🎯👏
I’m 49 and OU812 was so epic when it came out, great breakdown. AVH 🙌
Amazing video and phenomenal tribute. Wow Ray, what an amazing player!
Ray has always been such a great guy and a phenomenal player. So awesome to see one of the greats playing tribute to one of the greats
Army of Anyone was SO killer IMO! Overlooked & underrated!!
Killer vid! Congrats to Alex. Well deserved!!! Love how Ray desected tunes and praised OU812! That record are full of great grooves and drumwork (and offcourse guitarplaying songs, etc), and are often overlooked because of a bit poor production, lacking a bit low end. And also songs from Diver Down wich also get to much negativety. What’s not to love? ❤
Mannnnnn the drum solo at the end is REAL NICE
Very nice drum set👍
I need those Korn shoes! ❤🤘🏻
Kit sounds frickin phenomenal!! Ray nails the parts perfectly!!
Ray busting into Lionel Richie's all night long during his solo! Haha reminded me of that always. Ray seems like such a good dude and such an incredible drummer, I could watch him play all day everyday. He was 1000% the right person for this video, the knowledge, appreciation and talent to pay tribute to Alex!
Luzier is the man!. been watching him for a long time his amazing!!
I place Alex Van Halen right up there with the all-time greats in rock drumming, John Bonham, Neil Peart and Keith Moon.
What no ginger baker? Mario Duplantier?
@@1848revolt Mario, a legend in the making. And of course Ginger Baker is already on that list.
If ANYONE in this world is an AVH legacy, this person is Ray Luzier... Such a pleasure watching this with him. I had watched clinics with him before, but seeing how he's an AVH scholar absolutely settles the legacy discussion for me. Gotta love this
I wont say that a Van Alen song at the drumming parts, would be a little bit "simplier" than it sounds inside at the record. But after on see at this video, him playing these VH Classics with the same drumming kit and the same configuration from the original Van Halen drummer counterpart. I should say, really these classics were very complicated and with a lot of technique styles.
Once i did see him playing these songs, Van Halen turned to me a more Pro Master Class at the drumming parts. A very technical achievement.
Would be nice to hear from Alex and Celebrate 🍾 his contributions to Van Halen
Thank you MD, Ray Luzier, Alex Van Halen, Ludwig and Paiste. This is a really video. Alex deserves to be celebrated.
It would be great if Alex would share more with us.
The best in depth AVH tutorial I’ve heard. Thank you Ray! This is the inspiration I needed right now. Fantastic.
Respect. Its the process of talent knowing talent. One amazing musician respects another. Excellent job!!! The Brown Sound! Long live the mighty Van Halen!!
As a guitar player, i enjoy RLs drumming, technical masterclass from this man
Congrats to Alex. One of the greats. Would have liked to see you cover Outta Love Again from VHII. Fantastic drumming on that song.
One of the best of all time he's fantastic. I met him at a clinic. Great guy completely down to Earth and just nice to talk to.
Ray is my favorite drummer
Amazing drummer and one of the best sounding kits I've ever heard..those cymbals..👏👏
For those that don't know, Ray Luzier is top notch and I loved when Dave had him as his drummer. This is so, so cool AND super cool he's using Alex's actual special kit for this.
Ray is my favorite all around drummer.
Dude Ray is so awesome! Always constantly blowing me away
Ray does a great job playing and show respect to Big Al!! VH Forever!
I love how articulate Ray is. He know his theory and can explain in like a master.
What a nice tribute. Well done, Ray!
Excellent video. Always loved Alex's playing and Ray did an awesome job here. Those toms sound lush!!
So great! Thanks for these excellent sessions!
Ray is a phenomenal drummer. Absolutely one of the best. Thank you so much for this awesome tribute to Alex Van Halen. He deserves all the credit. Kudos Ray!!!
Of course Luzier can play Hot for Teacher perfectly. This guy is one of the greatest of all time in my opinion.
Crazy enough I was just thinking how Ray would be awesome on Drumeo!!!!!
this was better, that would be fun
Brandon towes can't handle ray
@@maness2112 Probably not!
wow.......the 1st MD issue I bought had AVH on the cover.....in '83👍👍
As a life long KoRn fan, I love Ray. He stepped up to fill David's shoes when he left and kept the band going. I have the utmost respect and gratitude for Ray. Not just for his work with KoRn either, I've been a fan of his since he toured with DLR. Was also a big fan of his from Army of Anyone. That's when I really took notice of Ray's skills. KoRn is lucky to have him, that's for sure!
WOW! thanks Ray! great to hear your insight into Alex’s playing and style. Plus featuring my favorite VH song Mean Street.
So awesome 2 of my favorite drummers Alex and and Ray!!
What a drummer & person!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ray Luzier rules!!!!!!!!!!
So cool that he mentioned Maynard Fergusen. I grew up in a musical family from a very musical hometown. I was exposed to some great music from all genres. I think I have seen Maynard Fergusen live more times than any other musician. Fun times!!!
This is absolutely BRILLIANT stuff here from Ray to highlight the genius of AVH. Thank you MODERN DRUMMER!
Awesome great video thanks for sharing ❤ Alex is awesome also peace ✌
Ray is awesome. Also, the drums seem to be better mixed than the previous, so kudos to whomever did that.
It is so great to see Alex VanHalen being honored like this!! AVH has been such a huge influence on my drumming in so many ways!!❤❤ & still the coolest snare sound Ever!!
"I can't count, I'm a Drummer" 😅💯❤🤘
What an amazing drumkit, and drummer of course
Probably the coolest drum solo I’ve ever heard😅
Dance the night away is some of Alex harder VH songs to play that groove is killer the guitar solo part in Jump is badass too
Awesome tribute to the GOAT, Reverend Al! Ray is one of my favorite drummers and he did an outstanding job analyzing and conveying why so many of us grew up loving Al's playing. Ray's playing on the Army Of Anyone record is a big reason why that album blows away anything the DeLeo Bros did in STP. I would love it if Army would get back together and do another record. Thank you, Ray, and thank you Modern Drummer, for putting together this amazing tribute to the one and only Alex Van Halen.
Man those toms sound amazing
Great Job Ray! Congrats, Al! Really enjoyed this. Beautiful Kit, studio, and playing.
Ray Makin it sounds the besttt
The Portnoy photo bomb at 57:00 🤘🔥😂
Mike: "Sorry honey, I need to go practise." 😁
Wow, and that drum sound. That is an amazing snare/tom sound.
Ray is such a cool and humble dude and such a beast behind the kit 👏 the best of this...thank you for playing the intro to "hot for teacher" and letting me see it(I have listened to it many times)and that drum solo at the end 😎👌 I loved that so much and you went all over the kit and I love hearing how everything sounded, great tour(when I watched the portnoy clip I was hoping he would do that but he never did)also love that they left that part in with portnoy arriving with his family and Ray being excited about it 🤣👌
This was a total treat to watch.
Such an experienced talented drummer.
Ray, you are an unbelievable drummer! Congratulations to Alex!
Ray is insanely good, he’s one of the top drummers of all time, and he’s such a down to earth nice good guy!
Those Paste 2002s are hands down my personal favorite.
I have a drum stick from Alex and a pick from Eddie and I got Eddie to get me the stick, lol. This was the For Unlawful Carnal knowledge tour Biloxi Mississippi when I was on the floor chest up against the guard rail stage right directly in front of EVH all fkn night, lol. He reached out and gave us hand slaps gave us a pick and I asked Eddie if he could get me a drum stick and he did!!! Dude laughed and joked with us in the front throughout the entire set. We tried to get him to hit the joint but he wouldn't,lol. Good times!!
When you look up "drums" in the dictionary, THIS is the sound that comes out.
Mean streets main pattern is played with one hand on the hi-hat. You can hear the sound of the hi-hat being struck while the snare is hit.
Yes very difficult. Not even Al plays it one handed anymore.
Wow! Ray is amazing! Had no idea how good and diverse he was . Really good insight and video! Thank you !! 🤟🏼🤟🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The best and fun part is when he plays everybody wants some
Ray's a good drummer and cool dude. Engaging conversation. I forgot he played with Dave. Since he's playing from _Diver,_ hope he gets into "the full bug" that's the best song on the album....
WE NEED RAY IN OUR BAND
OH Hell Yeah to all of this!!!!
Wow, that solo was amazing!! You did Alex's kit proud!
Respect to that guy! Great display of being a TRUE AVH Fan. Thank you & you did it great jsutice imo.
