My mother passed away recently. She loved coconut in desserts. Her birthday was May 3, 1934, the day before the printed recipe for Dream Bars, May 4, 1934, shown in this video. I feel like she wanted me to see it. Thank you so much.
❤
❤🙏🏻
May her memory be blessed.💕
i wish her a happy birthday :) 🙏🏾🙏🏾
My mother made these every Christmas and put them in a Christmas cookie tin in the freezer. I ‘d get up in the middle of the night and sneak one or two 😊
What a sweet memory to have. Food and music brings people together.
@pennylane428
That sounds wonderful 😂
My Grandma used to make these ☺️❤️. Thank you for reminding me of the recipe, esp since I'm becoming vintage myself 😂
I'm going to borrow a page from your grandmother and make these for my granddaughters.
@@gailjordan9250after the reminder, I'm making these for my Grandkids as well. Between my 5 kids and 9 Grands, I better triple the recipe lol
I love vintage cookbooks! All I can say is "Please Ma'am, may I have more vintage recipes?" Cassaroles & Sides always intrigue me. This is good old cookin' and is easy! Thank you 😊
Love this idea of vintage recipes. Brings back beautiful memories of when I cooked and baked with my mom. Before devices and other forms of entertainment. ❤
It's funny you brought this up. When I was young, my mom had a book called Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook. When she was not making traditional foods, she would use this book for other foods and treats. Growing up, she thought she would pass these down to my sisters. As we got older, her books became lost to time. To my mother's surprise, I was baking and cooking as I got older. When I turned 45, my sister gave me one of the greatest gifts ever. She found that same cookbook my mom used when we were kids and bought it for me. I have tried to keep it in good condition, but it being old, the books are trying to die on me, lol.
My gma called them Scotchies!
That reminds me of some butterscotch blondies I made around Christmas. They were delicious. You definitely needed to put parchment in the pan. And they did get hard on one end chewy on the other.
How about the old school coffee cake from elementary school back in the 80's?
I would love that recipe. We learned to make that in Home Economics class
1963 vintage! The year I was born, lol. I guess vintage sounds better than old. Anyway, I think this series is great! I collect old cookbooks and church cookbooks. Can't wait to see more recipes!
I love these bars. I used to make them when my son was small. If you have any leftovers, try freezing them and then eat them right out of the freezer--whole new level of yummy.
I love vintage cookbooks! I used to love looking thru my grandma’s old cookbooks. The canned coconut was a flashback! 😂 I remember that
Straight 🔥🔥🔥 Ma! And can’t wait for the next episode in this mini series 👊🏼😎😋👌
I agree, this knowledge needs to be preserved in as many ways as possible
I love vintage cookbooks. I have to make these cookies!! Yummy 😋. Thank you, Mama!
I do like making old recipes. Please do share your recipes. 🌷🌿🐕
It’s a pleasure to see how cooking evolves over time. I get sad to see how some items no longer are made though.🙏
Just think that lady who furnished the newspaper made history in a few ways and we’re keeping her tradition alive!! It’s great to know that future generations learn from the past in more ways than one. Who knew we’d still make these cookie bars and love them equally as much as they enjoyed them back then!!! Thank goodness for print type and recording.
I love old cookbooks! There’s something about flipping through them and seeing the weird ingredients and the different ways they come together. When you were making them I thought for sure you were going to add chocolate chips! Thanks for sharing! I love the new series!
What a blast from the past! Thank you so much!
Thank you for that recipe!!! My grandmother made those for me when I was a little girl. I’m 73 now and it brings back sweet memories. I need to make those for my grandchildren. ❤
I’m loving the idea of you making old recipes! I love to see what recipes people use to eat and make from back in the day.
My mother born in 1920 collected cookbooks all of which were passed down to me. Of the couple of hundred or so my two favorites are the Better Homes and Garden Cookbook circa 1948 and the James Beard cookbook circa 1959. I am subscriber and watch all your uploads.
Any chance you have the oatmeal currant scone recipe that uses soured milk? I lost my grandmother's recipe box to flooding, that recipe clipping from 1933 or 1934 was from Quaker Oats. I was always forgetting I had milk, until it was past, and that worked phenomenally.
Yummo! I'm adding chocolate chips to the filling.
Pls more of such recipes
I love lemon bars. Any recipes?
My gosh! That looks tempting. I'll be making a batch for my family. BTW, yes, show more of your vintage recipes.
I remember an old recipe from my g-mother. Russian Tea Cakes. Maybe you can find that and make. ❤
When my paternal grandma died I received her Betty Crocker cookbook published in 1950. I've never seen another cookbook like it. I love, love, love this book. I have 4 daughters, all in their 30's, who squabble over who will get the cookbook after I die. 😂😂
I love vintage recipes. Thanks for those awesome recipes.
Your receipe for old vintage bars sounds delicious. More vintage recipes please!!Thank you for something very different. 😮😊
Thank you for sharing the vintage recipes. 👍😎👍😋♥️
Oh wow! That’s a blast from the past! Now I’m gonna have to make these. Thanks for the awesome video 😊
Yummy.
my grandmother was born in 1899. These were a staple in her retirement home on the Castine Maine coast since 1963.
I don’t know why but my Nan and I prefer them much more if they’re refrigerated. Seems like a horrible idea to me but tastes way better, at least for what ever recipe her local bakery uses.
I have a vintage desert that our family usually only made at Christmas time but one of my family members requests it as a gift for bdays or celebrations called Watergate salad some of you may know this one but if interested lmk & I will share

These are YUMMY. They are great alone (like shown) or topped with a layer of Butterscotch (or chocolate) Chips when they come out of the oven on the second bake.
Sounds s amazing! I like the fact it's also easy to make.
looks yummy ... great idea
I love things like this. I could probably eat the whole painful.

I just made brunch/ lunch with what I had. And, I used half of the skillet for my meat and the other for my eggs.
Blessings to you❤
Could you do a cracker pie? My mother used to make it. I think it has saltine crackers, pecans, and whipped cream. Thanks
Those bars are in need of some chocolate chips!
Yes. The later versions had chocolate and butterscotch chips and sweetened condensed milk.
Thank you, love this!!!❤😮😮😮
Vintage recipes please! ❤😂
Very nice 90 years old recipe
They look so yummy!😊
YUMMY SNACKS
Amazing 😊
Oh! I am going to make these for sure! Yes to more vintage recipes!!.😊
Yummy 😋 😊from Barbara
We have a family recipe called California dream bars they’ve been passed down for generations of my family. It’s basically the same, except for we add more brown sugar, chopped pecans, coconut, and chocolate chips to it kind of like a pie crust that you make, and then pour a filling into and then it has a brownie consistency.
I'm excited for this series🙂these look yummy😋I hope you do "The green stuff" I had a recipe from my Grandma It was amazing but I lost it.😕Thank you for sharing
When you say “green stuff”, do you mean pistachio or Watergate salad? I just made a from scratch version with homemade stabilized whip cream for Easter & it was so good. I can’t have Cool Whip because its ingredients are highly inflammatory and cause a huge flare-up in my chronic pain.
Ok, these look incredible. I originally came here to get the recipe for your Tres Leches cake(the one with the orange and cinnamon)which I always come back to because it’s THE BEST. I’ve making it at least once a year since the first time I made it. Now, it looks like I’ll have to make this as well. 😆😆 Thank you for all you do.
I guess it took another 10 years before they added the sweetened condensed milk and the chocolate and buttersccotch chips to that recipe for "dream bars".
I also collect recipe books old and new.. love them!!
I was 11 years old in 1963. Yep, definitely vintage.😉
Delicious 😋

The coconut and pecans aren’t listed in the recipe.
Yes they are. Just pause the video. They are in both the newspaper and book recipes.
@@cathyl4622The description box. She had the recipe in the description box but the coconut and pecans are missing.
My mom used to make a lemon bar recipe, with a powdered sugar/lemon juice glaze. No idea what cookbook it was in! Do you have a recipe for that?
Yum Angelica! Looks really good! Is it ok if you can give me your chilli recipe so then I can make some chilli! I’ve been craving chilli lately!
Thank you 🙏 😊✝️✝️
Yummm 😊
Please do 7layer bars with coconut and white chocolate
❤ wow 👌👌👌 Good morning sis 🙏😄❤️❤️
Subscribing for vintage recipes!
My grandma would make these but dust them with powdered sugar for the holidays
Thank you for sharing.
I looked for years not sure if the name. It looks like one cuts strips of a very flaky dough rolled up with sugar between each layer and about 11/2 inch in width. Messy cookie but oh so good. Hope you can help me.
Where are the rest of the ingredients listed?
Wow. 90 years old? You would have thought someone would have eaten it by then. Have you tried making this fresh? Maybe someone will eat it if it's not so old?
I have a recipe like this, it adds chopped California dried apricots.
Delicious, but it doesn't last more than a couple days without getting dry.
🤗🥰
The recipe doesnt give all the ingredients and measurements. They look dee licious!!
❤❤🎉
Fiestadas from school lunch!!!
What can you substitute for the Coconut?? No one in my family likes Coconut!!
Add mini chocolate chips to replace the coconut.
For filling : how much in pkg of brn sugar??
She says 1/2 cup
How much coconut?
I love old recipes… what hamburger dinners do you have ? I would prefer no tomatoes 🍅.thanks
Tomatoes usually did not exist on burgers in the early 20th century
