Thanks for sharing with us! I love to see/hear your enthusiasm. It is great to be able to see your own progress. The colors and projects look great; keep having fun, and a safe trip!
@@AdventurerKnits I forgot to add my 2 cents about the frogged yarn: if it is fairly recently ripped out and it doesn't seem to be affecting my gauge, I will knit with it straight away. If the project has been made for months and longer, I will wind it into a hank, tie it, soak it, dry etc before winding up to use again to get the deep kinks out.
Love your persistence with sock making. It gets easier and more fun as you go. I went through the same process. I only do heal flap and gusset. Kitchener stitch is practice.❤️🇨🇦❤️
I’m so glad to know you’ve been down the same road! I just did another Kitchener on a sock last wk and it was the smoothest yet. Not perfect, but I was tickled! I’m so glad you’re here. Happiest of new years to you!
Thanks for sharing your projects. I enjoy watching you as you progress. I can really see you’ve improved in such a short time. I’m improving as well and gaining confidence. It’s so fun.
@ my third musslebourgh. Us size 2 Ex Libra fiber fingergering weight yarn which is super-wash sock yarn. wool yak nylon blend. Very soft. And Veronika lindberg salty days sweater. In knit picks wool of the Andes worsted. It’s challenging and I’m taking it one row at a time. She has fabulous tutorial videos. Happy belated birthday.
Love the color choice for your vest. It looks great! I've always wanted to have a knit vest in my closet for the Michigan Fall/Winter months. Such a versatile piece!
Happy belated birthday wishes Renee! I’m also newish to sock knitting and always seemed to get small holes on the sock heel. I found a tutorial on UA-cam that really helps with reducing the holes. Nancy from Knit Sip Happy has a short video “closing up the pesky hole in the corner of the sock heel”. Very helpful and informative. I’ve also purchased sock yarn from Tiny Human knits in Laura’s sock base. Probably my favourite sock yarn to knit with. And I’m currently knitting the “step by step” cardigan. I love that Florence offers a tutorial. Happy knitting Karen 🧶
Thank you so much for pointing me to the tutorial! Omg, I’ve started the cardigan and, early days, but am loving the process. How about you? What yarn are you using? The Fisherman’s Wool I talked about is working out nicely.
@@AdventurerKnitsI’m enjoying the cardigan knit. It’s my first cardigan project and I find the tutorial so helpful. I’ve just split for the sleeves, so still lots of knitting to do. I’m using West Yorkshire Spinners “The Croft” in a cream colour. The yarn is a aran weight… I’m still learning about yarn weights and maybe I should have followed the recommendation from Florence, but with the assistance of my LYS I’m going to make it work. Karen
For the red vest, I suggest running a lifeline through before you start tearing back. I usually wind the frogged yarn back into a ball and start using it after I’m done being mad at my project. 😊 I love Christmas stripes that aren’t overly Christmassy. Self-striping yarn has been one of my weaknesses this year. Jane Eyre is my favorite classic novel. I’ve recently been re-reading it in the hydromassage bed at Planet Fitness, a few pages at a time.
Mohair is generally smooth and lustrous because it has fewer scales along the fiber shaft than wool. This makes it less likely to felt than wool. Softness Mohair yarn is often made from kid mohair, which is softer and floatier than adult mohair. Mohair is generally less itchy than wool, making it a good choice for people with sensitive skin. However, some people may be sensitive to the coarse texture of mohair, or have an allergic reaction to proteins in the fibers.
Your vest is so pretty! I would like to try that pattern. I am also not super confident with different bind off methods. I tried a super stretchy bind off in my last sweater but I didn’t like it so I pulled it out and bound off in pattern. Someday I will learn fancy techniques.😂 Thanks for your video!
Hi Renee---thanks for the video :) Really enjoyed it. Just a quick thing---and I don't know what your preference here is, so please excuse my interference if you have this all figured out. I'm wondering whether you're about to encounter an unforeseen issue with your socks... With self-striping yarn of more than two colours and a non-symmetrical striping sequence, the order of the stripes is determined by the direction in which the yarn is knitted. So, if you start one sock from the middle of the ball and the other from the outside, the stripe sequence on the second sock will run in opposite order to the first. This may be exactly what you are after, in which case please ignore the below. However, if you want to knit two socks at the same time with the stripes in the same order, you could skein off half of the yarn into a separate ball--- but NB that the way that you do that will also affect the striping sequence. - If you make a skein from your current ball and then wind a ball from that, you will want to knit from the inside again because the two stages means that your new ball is effectively a mini version of your old one. - If you make a ball directly from your current ball, you will need to knit from the outside because the new ball will be the inverse of your old one. Hope that's not too confusing! Good luck with the socks and all your other projects. I look forward to seeing how everything progresses :)
I am so so glad you left this comment! Knitters helping knitters. After reading this, I rushed to my second sock and found out that for whatever reason, I hadn’t chosen to pull from the outside. I had started from the inside because it was closer to the starting stripe, so just by chance! Whew! This is so good for me to know for my next striped project. 🥰🥰🥰
Caryl, that’s a good point. And the truth is, I probably won’t. The main reason being I’m finding I’m not wearing the vests as often as I thought….as I’m reviewing what I made this yr, I’m giving this more thought. That’s an upcoming video! Thanks for being here!
Hi Renee - I love your stripey socks and congrats on 500 subs here. Your knitting journey is gaining momentum so fast - can't wait to see what you get up to next year. You've prompted me to do more reading myself - I like historical fiction and well crafted mystery thrillers - not a fan of sci fi or romance either. I have been interested lately in the modern interpretations of the classics, about to read Percival Everett's James about Tom Sawyer from the perspective of the slave - so that shouldn't be depressing at all lol.
Hi Elsa! It as so good to see you on your video yesterday. James is easily one of my favorite books this yr. And thank you for all the kind words. I’m having fun and I’ve just reached a road block with a double knit button band! My first one.
Picking up stitches can be tough, especially if you are changing direction going around a neck opening. It may be helpful to go to a yarn shop and see if someone there can show you how to make it look more even. If you are like me, I need a knitting fairy to help me out once in a while. ☺
That’s a great idea! I’m going to a few shops in the area to get to know people and find a shop I connect with.

If you go down one or two needle sizes (2 if you are doing a worsted or bulky weight) when you bind-off for the armhole ribbing of a vest then you will have a much neater and slightly tighter bind-off. It will still be stretchy, although a stretchy bind-off isn't really required for the armhole ribbing of a vest like it is for a collar or cuffs.
I appreciate the feedback! I didn’t mention in this video, but I did go down needle sizes for the armholes and neck. Not the ribbing at the bottom tho because I forgot!!
summer lee knits has a podcast with an awesome how to knit socks tutorial... it's fantastic. wish it had been around when i first learned to knit socks... summer is the master of sock knitting. for your first try, yours look awesome, great job! if you frog the pink vest, you can knit with it all 'squiggly', which will wash out when you block it....but it may be a nicer knitting experience if you wash it before reknitting with it. either way works.
I really appreciate the feedback! I haven’t actually tried Summer Lee. I started with the Crazy Sock Lady vanilla sock pattern and have stuck with that. I am getting The Sock Project book out of the library though!

omg i love that blue you have in the cowl! it matches your eyes perfectly
Ah, thanks! It’s done now and is such a squishy, beautiful cowl. That La Bien Aimee…
You’re making me want to knit a sweater vest! Even with the blips, I think it still looks great on.
