- Its a summer time week in my life! We are taking it easy while we wait for baby to arrive, and there is a little of our summer math that we had planned. But mostly we are just hanging, keeping house, and getting ready for baby to arrive!
Hello and welcome! My name is Chana, I’m married to my best friend, and we have three wonderful children together. We also happen to be Orthodox Jews and we homeschool our kids. This video is a sneak peek into our daily lives :) You can see how this particular Jewish homeschool mom sets up her days, rolls with the punches, and gets it all done. Thanks for watching!

We are having a Father’s Day cookout on Saturday. My husband is going to be smoking a chicken and a Boston butt pork roast and grilling some corn on the cob.We are expecting a good crowd. It is supposed to be a scorcher here, so I am pretty sure everyone will be hanging out in the house with the AC! 😝 Have a blessed Shabbat and I am looking forward to seeing you again on Monday. And, I was so glad to hear everything is great with Baby Firefly! (So looking forward to some baby toe peeks)

My daughter is getting married tomorrow! It’s a very small wedding with just immediate family. But even so, there are so many little details to think about. We’ll be at a beautiful private park and the weather looks good. We love our future SIL and his family, and I’m very happy and excited for my daughter ❤️.

Seeing the kids working on math was perhaps my favorite part. You could even see the excitement in your youngest by the speed in which his hands were moving. So adorable.

Chana, to me, your lifestyle is just perfection. I think it's all about faith, marriage and raising a good family. It may be an old-fashioned concept in our current world, but, it's the very essence of life. As I've said, I loved being a homemaker and mother in my younger years..best time of my life. Every time you show the creek it looks like a different planet to me. Creeks in New England are so different. You have definitely put Texas on my bucket list of places to visit. It looks beautiful and so different from where I live.
I’m so glad I can share some of the beauty of Texas! Yes, we have a totally different landscape here :) I’d love to visit more places in New England also! I haven’t spent much time exploring up there :)

I’ve never heard of a busy book - I love that! The shots you showed it looked absolutely beautiful and really fun. I’m going to have to do some research. I could use something like this for my 3yo triplets.
They are super fun! My grandma made them for us in the 80s, and we loved them growing up! So happy my kids get to enjoy them now :)

Having a cookout on Sunday with all three of my children to celebrate Father's Day. We live on a beautiful lake so we can go boating right off of our backyard. When we can all get together, which is not often enough, it's always a great time! 😊 I hope that you and your family have an awesome weekend and wish your husband a Happy Father's Day!❤

When I was near your point in pregnancy, I had bad “pregnancy brain” issues. Absolutely no attention span! My 3 kids were all early & I ended up on bed rest with all of them due to complications. Now they’re all grown & my oldest son is married now. My daughter (youngest) is in grad school. My middle child (son) works a lot in security for a high tech firm. Now I just have to clean up after my husband & 2 little dogs. Enjoy your kids at this age because they grow up so fast!

Sometimes when I am watching your channel, I imagine I am having a second opportunity at childhood with a mom just like you, siblings like your kids and a father who cooks Moroccan fish. Such a delightful family!

Now that you're super-duper pregnant it's nice that your kids are old enough to actually be a help when they're being helpful. Their willingness to help also speaks well of the values they're being raised with. At the rate they're shooting up your older boy will soon be tall enough to put things away in the overhead cabinets.
I love the busy book. What a wonderful thing to have.
I hope you will make every effort to preserve these videos. When you have grandchildren the age your kids are now, they will enjoy seeing what things were like when their parents were little. And when you're an old lady, these reminders of what you thought and did at this stage of your life will be a precious treasure. Not to mention remembering what it was like to be so very pregnant.
Get as much rest as you can, while you can. Baby will be here before you know it. lol

Dear Channa, as much as we lean to perfection, perfects we do not are. You have a lot of things on your plate everyday, and as you yourself said, is a question of home and practice, do not fight your paintings skills decay (as you say), it is time to rescue the essentials, another step on the way of art. Is time for the silent knowledge that occurs inside while we are worried for the quality of our work on the outside. It all will came out eventually (as nesting😂). By the way I take my hat of for your moms book! All my love❤️

Thank you for bringing us along on your week, amongst being busy with all the daily chores, you always find time to do fun activities with your children from tiny cute food picks on their lunches to trips to the creek, the perfect place to cool off in the heat ! How delightful was the "Busy Book" your Grandma had made, I am sure that will become a precious keepsake.

No big plans here as it is 100 degrees!! I told my husband I feel like an animal in a den as we have all the blinds closed to conserve energy!! Those summer days with the children remind me of my days with my children( who are about your age). We would eat lunch and watch Fairy Tale Theater in the afternoon. Sweet memories. Back then we had to check out the videos at the library!!
You looked so pretty in the blue scarf when you were at the doctors appointment!! The creek looks like so much fun!!! I would have loved something like that as a kid! Also, if life ever allows, and you could do more artwork, I would totally buy some!! I LOVE the picture of the blue bird in the nature journal!!!! Have a great weekend!!!

I am very glad you are resting more. Resting is an important part of successful pregnancy and you need to avoid lifting anything weighing more than about 3 pounds weight. My mother supervised my pregnancy and I learned from her. Afternoon naps are very good for you too. Take care of yourself please 💖

I love polishing anything. Silver, copper, cars. To me it’s immediate gratification. Also while doing it I think about stuff. Very zenish. I also like ironing.

Do you have a specific skincare routine, or is that glow from pregnancy and clean eating? I've just discovered you and have been devouring your videos!
Hi neighbor! I don’t really have much of a skin care routine 😬 I wash my face with water every day and with soap only when it’s dirty / sweaty. I don’t use any products except moisturizer sometimes. I think my skin looks good because of a combination of genetics, pregnancy glow, and the fact that I don’t wear makeup very often (like just a few times a year). And lots of water and sunshine :)

I’m drinking ice water all day :) And I normally don’t like ice in my water lol Ya it’s been upper 90s or over 100 with no rain here for a bit. I think we are in for a hot hot summer

I’m so jealous of how late your kids sleep. 😂 All five of mine are up between 5-5:30 no matter what time they go to bed 😳 I’m 28 weeks pregnant and really feeling the exhaustion currently.
My kids stay up really late though, hence the sleeping in :) It’s a trade off :) Best wishes on your pregnancy! I feel ya on the exhaustion!
Hi Chana! I absolutely love your creek! I won't use the ones here in Florida because they are populated with snakes and gators! However, we as an extended family are giving our pools a workout. Today I have pool visits with sister and sister in law, should be nice and relaxing. Don't know about this weekend yet... As always a pleasure to watch and learn....
Eek! Ya, I wouldn't swim much in creeks etc in Florida either! But the pool sounds very nice :)
I love watching your videos! Have you ever tried using a paste of baking soda and water to polish silver? It works great. I have polished silver earrings and necklaces with baking soda and they came out really well. Our kiddush cups and candlesticks are ceramic so they don’t need to be polished.

Oh I remember those days. Lots of kids. Summer break. And the never ending loads of dishes and laundry. When my 5 were older I seriously did about 4 loads of laundry 6 days a week. We live on a farm so they got dirty ALOT! i get nostalgic occasionally but when I visit my grandkids I have to relive all the work and am happy to get back home hehehe Get lots of rest. It’s not easy being pregnant in the 100 degree heat! 🥰
What fun memories! Even the laundry :)
The heat has been really bad here too, and humidity. The libraries and colleges are offering cooling stations for homeless and people without power. My dad lost power yesterday for 4 hours and didn't lose any food. My nephew officially turned 4 last night around 10 pm. We're celebrating it on Saturday, so I bought more wrapping paper.

Did you know one thing that dulls silver real fast is hard boiled eggs. Puts something in the air that dulls silver. I have a bunch of my mothers silver that I love but takes work to keep it looking good.

Truly, that’s amazing. I had a few questions if you don’t mind. How often do you pray in a day? I know you refer to morning prayer but are the other set times for prayer? I noticed when you were polishing the silver it had Hebrew writing in the cup. What does it say? Thank you again!
Hello! So glad you enjoyed! And thanks about the water color :) To answer your questions, I pray once in the morning of prayers from my book, but there is conversation with G-d all day also that is just my own words of thanks and needs etc. Men have three set times of prayer each day with prayers from the book. As for the words inside the cup, I would have to ask my husband. If I remember correctly it is a Kabbalistic thing, but I am not sure :)
So, in the Marine Corps we used Brasso to polish metal. When I got injured in Iraq and I had already been dosed with morphine and they were going to give me the knock out drug after I was in the operating room. 🥴 High, I looked around and said in amazement, “how much brasso do you use? Everything is so shiny.”

Hi, Give Brasso a try I use it more than the other, I have tried every polish I think. But no polish use a warm coke ,some crumpled up aluminum foil. It will clean it pretty well and you just let it soak for about20 to 30 minutes. I usually use a Pyrex 9×12 pan and do alot of pieces at once. Not perfect turn the bad side to a new batch of cleabpner do again. Then rinse dry and give it a while with a polishing cloth. They stay nicer llonger... hope you found this helpful.

Hi Chana. Enjoyed the video. Regarding your remarks about water color painting I'll tell you the joke I always tell my learners (I'm a learning professional). A man is walking down the street in NYC and he stops another man to ask - How do you get to Carnegie Hall? And the other man says "practice". I know you know that practice is important and right now you can't practice as much as you want. But I thought I'd try to make you laugh a little. 😁

I ordered black ink pens because I needed some. I was down to like 2. I bought 60 for $5.99 on Amazon. I was at Staples today, and I got a better deal on Amazon. I bought a mini calendar for above my writing desk. It was on sale because it's halfway through the year.

You are definitely nesting. Polishing silver is not a necessity in life. Sounds like baby should be here in 2-3 weeks. Not sure how you manage to get out in the heat, even if it is to the creek where it is a little cooler.
I loved polishing silverware, when I was a kid. I actually still enjoy it, although I use stainless, so it’s usually for some silver bracelets and necklaces. Are silver cups used for Shabbat? Your were so pretty, and I loved the silver plate.
I also enjoyed polishing diver as a kid :) The cups and the small plate are used for Shabbat for the special blessing over wine :)
Have you done an episode on keeping the sinks separate for meat and dairy?

Watching UA-cam on my TV Thru Roku can’t comment on my TV so on my IPAD…..but you look stunning and beautiful pregnant ! Continue to have a beautiful summer……could use your prayers . My health is hard at the moment. Numerous things. WAITING ON HASHEM AT MY RED SEA…….DYING TO LIVE THIS LIFE TO RESTORE WHAT MY FATHERS FAMILY DESTROYED BY HIDING THEIR JUDAISM. Judaism has followed me in the shadows all my life from being born at a Jewish hospital here in Toronto…….to my aunt and Godly grandmother living in a Jewish neighborhood here in Toronto till their death 2002. Just dying to convert seeing my great grandfather was Jewish.
Crying out to HASHEM daily as my health is just brutal right now.

Thank you Devorah! We plan to homeschool as normal once the baby arrives :) Homeschooling with a newborn is very easy :) It’s the toddler stage that it gets more difficult!

You gave your daughter a Helen Keller Barbie. I had no idea there was one. So, are you thinking about teaching American Sign Language???
My kids have been learning a little ASL, they really enjoy it but it’s not something we are pursuing more than casually :)
@@jaroffireflies Do you have an ASL dictionary?? I have many and can recommend one. I am also getting an AA degree in Deaf Studies. I have been signing since I was a toddler, long story. I am now considered legally deaf because I can not hear any sound unless it is over 100 decibles. ASL does have a Grammer to it. Action word comes first then subject. Example: English: The dog walked to the store. ASL: walk dog store. Words like "the, and" are not apart of the ASL Language. There is another sign language here in America. It is called SEE (Signing Exact English) Sign. This sign language is used in schools to teach deaf children how to read the English language. I will take a photo of the dictionary and the ISBN number.

Lovely video as always :) A question came up when you mentioned the prayer after sunrise! How would the start/end of shabbat work in regions far in the north where the sun doesn't set, or comes up just 1 hour later again, like Norway in the summer? :D
Great question! So you can search “Shabbat candlelight times Norway” or any other city and it will show you the time Shabbat starts and ends. It’s super interesting :) to me at least lol I just searched Oslo and found that this Shabbat starts at about 10:30 pm on Friday and ends on Sunday at about 1:20am. Shabbat starts at sunset and ends after the next sunset, so it still ends up being about a day even if the sun is only up for an hour or it’s up all day :)

I noticed when you were at the creek that your sons weren't wearing their caps (sorry I can't spell the right word - no disrespect intended) was this because they were swimming or because the swimming in a moving body of water? Like would they wear them to swim in a pool? I'm just curious and don't mean to offend. Hope you continue to feel well!
No offense taken :) It’s because of the moving water. They would wash downstream and get lost and become litter so I put them in my backpack when we got to the water :)
Questions I seen you 2 sinks one for meat the other for milk so my question is what do you do if something from one side falls in to the other sink is that really bad and if it is what do you do ? other question do you check your rice for bugs and do you have to throw the whole bag out if you do ?
Hello! So to answer your questions, the food falling into the other side of the sink depends on if it is hot or cold. If cold, no worries just clean it, and if hot I would need to re-kasher the sink with boiling water. This is very rarely an issue. For the rice, no I do not need to check my rice for bugs. That may be an issue in some parts of the country or the world, but not by us. I know in Israel for example they have to sift their flour to check for bugs, but here in the USA that is not an issue so no need to sift.
