This isn’t being mad, this is being passionate about winning (especially since EDG are a great team) and letting his guys know they need to make the right calls in situations where they can cleanly close out games with big leads. The right concept to being angry is trying to fire up your team, not abuse them and make them feel worse about a game where they know a bad call threw that hard work away. Just gotta awaken that sleeping monster that got them to worlds.
If this coach did this in EU or NA the fanbase and players would be up in arms calling for his head and permanent departure. This is what it takes to be the very best at something, unhealthy obsession and dedication.
This is part of a coaches job, no wonder the teams from the Asian region are outperforming when they are being this hard on themselves! The true region to rule the scene
To anyone "It's just a game", this is their career, losing 1 game could mean ready to be fire. Coaches are the same, Maokai didn't blame anyone but how the team should be. This is not verbal abuse but discipline.
If an NFL Coach is recorded acting in the same way, no one would question it. The same goes for esports. It’s just a passionate coach who’s expressing frustration with his team after losing on the big stage. Nothing out of the ordinary.
What are your proofs ? Is it that, or the fact that LS was unprofessionnal, late to all meetings, not waking up in the morning and being a little bitch in general ( LS cries a lot, he is barely a man how could he be a coach ).
Instant flashbacks to getting yelled at by asian parents. There's just a pit that opens in the bottom of your stomach know that there's nothing you can do that's going to make them less angry. To anybody in the comment section saying that more coaches should behave like that, I pray you become wiser if you ever coach any competitive team or become a parent. People overgeneralize saying that the west has "snowflake culture" or that western coaches are just saying "good job" to people that consistently throw, but they fail to realize that this is not how coaches should act consistently. In fact, the players said that this was an uncharacteristic outburst from the coach, which is fine, it's only human and when we become frustrated, we become frustrated. In fact, if the coach is typically level-headed (i'm not saying not serious or strict, but controlled about his analysis and criticisms), it makes something like this all the more potent because you know that the punishment is fair. If you've ever lived in a household where authority figures consistently have outbursts like this over every failure, it doesn't just add pressure: it completely destroys peoples' sense of self-worth, which if eroded enough can take years to rebuild. It becomes less about improvement and more about treading lightly to avoid every single mistake. In fact, just hearing him yelling like that triggered some pretty deeply rooted memories and I instantly felt myself tightening up. Anybody who has been through any significant level of competition, went through an outburst like this, and proceeded to succeed will tell you that after an episode like this it's most important to come back the next morning, tell the players that you expect them to work harder to achieve what you all want to do: win the whole fucking thing. Tell them not to forget what happened, and get fucking hyped to prove that that wasn't what your best is. At the end of the day, you're all on the same team and you're not there to antagonize the players: you're there to coordinate them and work together, or else you might as well just leave and form a new team.
Hit the nail right on the head with this one, and well written too! I've been saying for a long time that the perfect balance needed to win a championship and not have a mental / physical breakdown is somewhere between the west and the east methodologies when it comes to league.

Never could take video games this seriously, but I can spot a passionate coach when I see one. Sports, games whatever you choose to do, this is the type of coach you want
It’s obviously different when you’re competing in tournaments especially for $$$
that is simply because you were never good in the first place. Same thing with people at sports. People who can't take sports seriously are those who plain suck ass at it.
It's not just a game , they are competing not for the fun of it win or lose doesn't matter ( it's a game kind of attitude) , if that's the case playing a game for fun rather not join a company and compete just play at home nobody would scold you even if you lose 1000 times .
That's a good coach. There are times when yelling is justified and it helps the team. eSports isn't like other sports. Your coach can't actively participate any further than the draft. So they have to sit and watch you mess up instead of intervene with a time out. It's a very frustrating role
Only weird ass american sports have time outs lmao. Normal sports do not
would it be more fun and complex if there is 6th player in the game where the coach can only go spectator mode for his team?

Hey thats a good coach. Passionate, constructive, to the point, accurate
If this was in North America, the coach will be fired and called toxic by the players.
