Great video! One thing that surprised me was that the coaching tips were still helpful to a longtime player such as you even though they were more geared towards new players.
It's something to keep in mind in general: Teaching a skill is not the same skill, *as the skill itself.* That is, you can be level 99 at a skill, but your teaching rank is still only level 1. When we improve at a skill, it often becomes subconscious, because that is faster. We don't need to think. You can see this a lot with artists: This is where the "Draw the rest of the owl" meme comes from because it is so common. People who coach and tutor others are people who have improved their ability to teach. This means they are still *conscious* of what they are doing still. They have delved down and analysed what is actually going on, they've dragged all that subconscious ability up and *analysed it*. This is why @shikkesora has tips for one of the top rank players in the world: He is aware, and understands what he is doing, more than shikke does.
yep, I didn't want the outro to drag on too long but I did unmute afterwards and we talked about the whole thing! (also the actual reveal where I showed him it was me was a little anticlimactic so I wasn't inclined to include it in the video anyway.) and thank you for the kind words!

I played osu for a week, for 90% of the time couldnt figure out what in the world i was doing, eventually managed to start a game, and realized id totally have loved playing this game with proper setup Then i had to return the school computer and haven't played since rip
As someone who has never played or looked up an OSU video and has no idea why this was recommended to me, why is coaching in a rhythm game a thing? Just click on beat
Not really sure myself, but i think its because in a typical rhythm game, you just need to tap, no need to aim. However, in osu, you need to aim as well as tap and sometimes the circles are quite far away from each other. If you dont hit it directly, the take registers as a ‘ miss ‘. Most players struggle with this and may want to get better, so they hire a coach to help them with speed and aim and stuff.
How-...What the fuck is a coach suppose to teach you about this game? "Dude just see the circles faster" ...Alright, I actually couldn't stop watching the video and I have to say... the coach is actually chill af, I still don't know how a coach can help you improve in Osu since it's mostly a relentless practice type of game but I love that dude, I would totally play osu again just for this guy
A lot of getting good involves small mental adjustments. There's an important difference between "just click the circle better" and telling someone that the speed pickup comes from the step where the eyes acquire a target.

I used to do this a lot in chess. I would go based off someone's experience and my initial assumption of how good they might be and then play a little under that level at first. My first time playing my coach in high school I lost horribly playing him at my current best. A year later I beat him. But he noticed something I didn't at first, I was subconsciously not playing at my best the first time I played a new person which is why I kept losing more than I probably should have. A guy I kept losing to had a huge ego and my coach wanted to see if I could really beat him so he warmed me up with a could games and then I barely beat the guy. The second year we lost a lot of players and that's when my coach noticed something else. If I was playing 1 on 1 I lost a lot. But he had me play anybody who wanted to try all at the same time. 12 chess boards. I lost 1 game. That's when he told me I had the "correct" moves memorized but I kept overthinking things. Ever since then my game hit better by just letting my mind wander during games and not focusing on the game. Let instinct take over. I've had very high level players on the ropes even though I still lost. Ones who I should never have been playing. I'm a decent chess player in the sense of the idea of what makes a chess player, but I'm definitely not good. I overthink things too much and second guess myself to the point I fail a lot.
