Hey guys! This video is a bit longer than the others so it took longer than expected to upload it; that's why it didn't release yesterday. I still plan to release part four of this series later today as well though!
Pro tip! Unfold a folded decal by putting it back in the water for about 20 seconds then pick it up out of the water extremely slowly and carefully from one side
Lol! You left the torso for the first fig in the water for 3 minutes and 20 seconds! Thanks for the tutorial though, it's really helping me with my decaling!
@@jonaktoys hey jonak is there anyway you can do $4 shipping thicks fig shop does but only for decals and cloth, I live in Australia and shipping is so expensive
Great tutorial! I personally do my torsos a different way because it’s a flat surface. I place own my torso piece right down on the table but with a napkin acting as a thin cushion. This way I can get every air bubble out fast without having my finger pressing against the decal on the other side. I’ve been doing this for a while with no problems
Gonna try my first lot soon using stormtroopers for a 501st commander and 6 501st stormtroopers to practice on, figure if I end up with 4 good ones and the commander and screw 2 up learning I'll be happy hahahah
This process is a pain, but hopefully it’ll be worth it, also any tips on what to do for decals that have circles in them/best way to cut the circles out like the arm holes or the back of the legs
Just finished my first figure yesterday and am quite happy with it. What confuses me though is what style of decal fits on which helmet. Cause i bought rp2 helmets (cause they have the holes for accessories) and i get the feeling that ap2 decals dont fit that well. It looks decent, but i wonder if a specific style of decal should go with a certain helmet
I guess a little thing is should mention when I decal a clone. If I damage a decal or chip it accidentally, I immediately get disappointed and know the figure is gonna suck. The order I usually do my clones in is torso first, legs second although 2020 legs are last because they take more skill, then helmets are last unless it’s 2020 then legs are the last. I usually press lightly until most water is removed and the decal is perfectly aligned and then I press hard to put it in its final position.
8:23 I hate 2020 legs, they’re such a pain to apply perfectly. I can do it but god I hate them so much. Probably why I like ap2 and rp2 more style wise and design wise.
Just wondering would the decal come off easy if you don’t use micro set and sol but you do use the sealant? Also sorry for all the questions I just don’t want to mess up too bad
No as long as you seal it good it should stay on. The set and sol mostly help you to get the pieces applied, the sealant is what really keeps them on though!
theoretically could you cut off the foot of the 2020 style decal and apply the feet and legs separately to avoid having to crease the decal into the divot?
what helmet did you use for the all of the p2 clones? were they all the same or are they each different for p2 style. also is your p2 helmet the same as CAC's rp2 helmet?
If I leave my decals in the water for longer then 20 seconds, the decal already gets removed from the paper, then my decal is just loose in the water. How can I solve this?
I am new at decaling when you soak it into the water is there a minimum or maximum time you should do it? what's an average time you want to soak it for? and for the sponge can you use like a makeup sponge or is it a special sponge?
Usually 10-20 secs I'd say. It's fine to leave them in longer, they just might be more prone to curl in on themselves if you do that. Yeah the sponges I have are makeup sponges haha
I want to decal your phase 1 rp1 clone pilot but I don’t know what the use is for the little black marks under the long yellow part and also is there a particular helmet to use or just the regular phase 1 helmet?
You have to be really careful there! You can use the tweezer or hobby knife to gently press the decal into the corner above the foot, then carefully press with the sponge to where the decal doesn’t shift
Great tutorial, it was a really good idea to do some clean and recent tutorial now that you reopened your website ! I love that decalling station ! If you know anyone that sell some (and that’s active on IG 😂) could you tell us on your Instagram ?

Can you show us how to decal a helmet with the combined version like the ap2 captain rex?

That stand you have for the tools is awesome! Just decaled Captain Howzer 2020 and it looks great. Can’t wait to use it in a M.O.C
Yeah it's pretty handy! I may be able to resell some of those in future but we'll see.

I'm about to make my first order from you! I am getting a lot of 2020 style clones and I'm really excited 😁
about to do my first decal on a 442 trooper and i am excited

when decaling do you need to use micro sel and sol or is that just a precaution thing to make sure it satays and sets
Man can just make any clone trooper or Lego character in general that he might want.
Best part is made mistakes to show us how to fix (literal legend)
Thank u! thank u! thank u!
Do you think it is worth it to get the official lego helmet or just the knockoff?
Does the sponge have to be wet? Btw I just bought from you guys.
Nope!
Ok thanks!
Do you have your decal station for sale, either as a print or STL? It is a very nice setup.
One question, the blank figures that you sell on your web site are ready to put the decals on? Or does they need to be sanded?
The blank figures come as pictured!
Do you need to cut the hips
theoretically could you cut off the foot of the 2020 style decal and apply the feet and legs separately to avoid having to crease the decal into the divot?
Yep!
Would a normal sponge work for now because my applying sponge is still coming in the mail
Yo jonak, where do you get that thing where you keep all your supplies in it?
It isn’t some anymore unfortunately but Tijn on IG does sell something similar I think!
sir, how much time does it take to dry after applying the decal(not sealing the decal)
Is the decal solution necessary?
hey i have failed an helmet decals how can i remove it to put an other decal on the helmet ?
Can decal be used on a dark piece? For example, for crosshair
How can i decal an ARF trooper helmet?
what helmet did you use for the all of the p2 clones? were they all the same or are they each different for p2 style. also is your p2 helmet the same as CAC's rp2 helmet?
It’s a replica of the official lego p2 helmet, I use it for all p2 styles! I sell them on my site! And no, it’s a different shape from the CAC version
@@jonaktoys Thank you so much for your reply! Im definitely gonna pick up several of your off brand helmets since its cheap and its on sale.

I want to decal your phase 1 rp1 clone pilot but I don’t know what the use is for the little black marks under the long yellow part and also is there a particular helmet to use or just the regular phase 1 helmet?
I believe those are the breathers, that go on the sides of the helmet! And yes it uses the normal phase 1
@@jonaktoys thanks
@@jonaktoys also do you need to modify the torso and if so how can I do it?
Why do you put SOL on it, when you seal it anyway?
When I seal something that has white printing either the print fades or it bleeds with the torso, is there a fix for it?
You may need to use less spray or switch to a different sealant! Brush on sealant is also an option I’ve got a video on that!
How exactly did you decal the legs? I can never get it properly folded down to the toe
You have to be really careful there! You can use the tweezer or hobby knife to gently press the decal into the corner above the foot, then carefully press with the sponge to where the decal doesn’t shift
@@jonaktoys thanks!
I have a question can you use this sealant called Mod Podge Matte Mat Mate water base sealer glue and finish. Does that work?
Not sure if that works tbh! When it comes to spray sealants a gloss or matte from rustoleum/ krylon is good!
@@jonaktoys Thanks it’s a sealer the you brush on if that makes sense kinda like the micro set and sol but in one container
Do you carve the hips???
Yep! Otherwise the decals will scrape off!
Should the sponge have water on it
no the whole point is to get rid of the water on the decal
Are there any alternatives for the sponges
You’ll need some sort of soft sponge like tha
@@jonaktoys so basically any applicator sponge
@@BloxxBaxter yes; soft ones like makeup applicator wedges are best
Why mess with decals when you have access to a UV printer?
Are decals simply stickers?
They're a bit different, you need to put them in water for them to activate and you have to slide it off of the paper backing
