      No matter what, it's also a good idea to run a pump speed regulator. Saves your pump and puts way less heat into the fuel-

Mechanic and an avid Race Driver and crew chief at times...lol but I had not done much with the "High Pressure" pumps needed for fuel injection like the "MSD ATOMIC" but only watching half his video on the loud fuel pump.....Problem solved! they pump hard and need to be dampened to the frame with rubber and 90% of your noise is gone! like I said this Guy is Great!

    Just an idea for future Sound tests, tape/glue/fix a ruler to the side of the decibelmeter so, where possible, it's placed at the same distance from the source of the noise.

    It’s the type of noise that causes issue, not the noise level. The duramax was more closely to white noise vs the irritating high pitched noise the fuel pump emitted. In tank is best if at all possible.

    Mounting is everything. Rigid mount on a large flat panel like a Trunk floor and it's amplified.
    Way back in the stone age I used to mount the l would Holly pumps on a bit of radiator hose. When they are set with bolts either side it removes a lot of vibration.

Without the foam with hard rubber it was so darn loud and I drive a 1999 7.3 powerstroke you could hear it over the motor till I added the foam mounting and you can't hear it at all

    these are great tips! i was wondering why my new cummins lift pump i mounted on the frame was louder than the engine!!!! i didnt use isolators!!! The pump later failed, not sure if it’s cuz the vibration destroyed it??? or it was just a defective pump. but either way I’m mounting a new and better pump and using isolators this time!! this is a good video! nice Nova btw!

    I run the aeromotive A1000 stealth pump mounted in my Rick’s stainless tank but I’m out of pump. About to make the jump to that brushless 5gpm direct replacement into the tank. I’m going to buy a sound meter and test mine the way it is now from rear of car and inside with the current pump and again with the 5gpm and see what the numbers look like. I can’t hear it at all with the motor running but I only have a straight 4” 4 foot downpipe from the S480 dumped under my passenger seat so it’s not quiet either. Even when just cycling the key the pump isn’t that loud tho. I think in tank is perfect and helps the bigger tanks live on long drives to help cool it. I don’t see it heating up the fuel enough to matter as someone was worried about that. Maybe I will stick a temp gauge in my tank to get the fuel temps just sitting and then keep tracking after some good driving and playing hard to see if it changes much. I have a return style so I know it will heat some just from being compressed and cycled through the engine bay. Will see tho. Especially if anyone else tests their in-line setup the same way. I love finding the real facts and not just guesses.

    • @cuzz63
      @cuzz63 3 роки тому

      Pretty much all relays operate the same...your using a device (sensor or switch ) to control a high amp load (pump, fans). The relay itself is a low amp device so you dont burn out the sensor or switch.

    I like the video idea, but you need to measure sound from the same distance away to make a comparison. Panels/equipment shielding the noise will also reduce it.

    I replace my 1998 Chevy cavalier fuel pump one year ago with the fuel filter today I went to reinstall the battery that I left out of the for a week because I special ordered one that is expensive is supposed to last longer. I started on my car today and the rear of the car has a humming sound coming from the gas tank. Why would my fuel pump be doing this now?

  • @SliderRacingTx
    @SliderRacingTx 4 роки тому

    I understand in tank pumps, are cooled by the fuel! However that in turn, heats the fuel up! Doesnt seem like a good trade off to me! If you are worried about air intake temp, you should worry about fuel temps also!

    • @anthonymason701
      @anthonymason701 4 роки тому

      Return fuel systems also heat the fuel up

    • @SliderRacingTx
      @SliderRacingTx 4 роки тому

      @@anthonymason701 I get it! Just trying to think of something that maximizes everything with the smallest trade offs! Maybe a fuel cooler or a cool can, like Moroso makes!

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 2 роки тому +1

      No matter whether it's a dead headed system or return system, a car that is not an all out race car, needs a fuel pump controller. This will greatly reduce the heat as the pump is slowed way down most of the time. If people think hot air kills power, just wait till they see what hot fuel does. It's a massive loss. Fuel coolers for the win!

    Just a side note I think you need to do this as a before and after type of test. Kind of pointless to compare the 'fixed' quiet pump to everything else in the shop when you should get a car that has a body/frame mounted pump with hard lines to test first. Then replace the lines, test. Then mount/isolate the pump, test and maybe even get several pumps to test sound levels. Just saying if you going to do comparison test you just cant go 'Heres my finished product see how quiet it is!' Surely you've got someone at the shop who got a thrown together system for you to improve upon. Hell come get my car LoL!

    I bet a trolling motor install kit would work good also for mounting a fuel pump. They hold the weight of a trolling motor to the front of a Fiberglass bass boat and reduce noise so the motor don’t spook fish off when your using it. You guys should try it out. Maybe make it a kit to sell. All they are are rubber insulated nutserts pretty much that require no special tools to install.
