Making a copper paint!

- In today's video I will be making Basic copper II carbonate then trying to paint with it. Copper II carbonate is often used as pigment, so this was a pretty easy thing to do because there is so much great info out there about it. I however will be also using it in the future for other reactions.
This is a great little chemistry reaction anyone can do at home.

That looks similar to cobalt teal but inexpensive. I will try it. Thanks
This is a wonderful video, earned my subscription!
Thank you!! Much appreciated :D
Is this paint electrically conductive? Might make a good base for electroplating non-metal objects.
Question: so we do not see NaH or CuH because the H is also negatively charged ya? So we 'always' see NaOH, KOH, etc?
As a 'not even novice'/'arm chair chemist', I like the chem-math to help make sure I'm on point. So basically the bond between Na and Cu is Na has stronger charge and pulls the SO (NaSO & Cu), leaving the Cu to bond with O (OH).
You are correct. The other way to kind of see this is it’s actually just a double displacement reaction and I forgot to mention that. Since sodium is more reactive than copper, it displaces the copper from the sulfate solution leaving sodium sulfate and then the copper binds with the carbonate. But the real reason behind this was your explanation of charges.
@@PrestonImpx Cool, thanks!
Could you rinse it with acetone or something to speed up the drying?
Yeah you definitely could. I think it’s really similar to copper hydroxide in that way
