B B Burlon is my Uncle from NC. His face pottery sells for thousands. Some of his pieces are displayed at the Smithsonian. National Geographic did an article on him. He is famous because his pottery was made the old fashion way using old methods. You can Google him. Lots of articles on line about him. I want that piece. When will it be for sale and where?
The little ceramic pitcher is made from two different colored clays. The clays are colored with different minerals then get folded together. The potter can use several colors in one piece giving it a marbled effect. A clear glaze made it shine. The sled was for a boy. These are lower to the ground than a girl's sled which is much taller. The idea was that little girls didn't do belly flops down a hill, but sat gracefully and was pulled by someone, a large dog or a pony. Sled makers obviously never met my sister.
You are such a wealth of knowledge & I am grateful you share it with all of us. Thank you! I learned something new about sleds today (& I am like your sister-I could always keep up with my older brothers, if not beat them down the hill, lol) xo
As in your last goodwill video, the crystal trinket box is old cut crystal. The reason it sparkles so much is before WWI a much higher lead content was used and the deep cuts refract the light like a mirror. I can’t tell if this one is American Brilliant Cut Glass or an old Bohemian crystal. The give away for me is whether the finest cuts are polished (ABCG) or have a non-polished, frosted look. When these pieces were new they were very expensive and only the wealthy could afford them. That is why there are so many pressed glass versions of the same patterns around. Those were available to the working class.
You did good passing on the carriage clock. It is a 70-80's remake. If it had been complete , it would have been an ok buy. Might still be worth a little profit for parts. 36 years at the bench as a Watchmaker.
@angelo8424 The two that i've gone to recently.... Filthy dirty, broken things, sharpie marker that can't be cleaned off, way too much tape used, etc. I go to hospice thrifts, church run thrifts, or mom & pop now instead.
Sled needs a rope. The holes are there for rope. Brings me way back when we would start at top of sidewalk hill and run with sled and flop head first and fly down the hill. Great fun. Hours of night time fun. 1960s.
I like when you say WE have seen this before . Because I’m watching, thinking “yeah, WE have seen this before” makes me feel like I’m contributing, lol.
Hi Jocelyn❤ We still use (if we get any snow in southeast PA these days) our vintage wooden sled. It is wicked fast in the right conditions and super fun but be careful..oh the memories 😂🥶
The floral item at 1:30 looks much like a vintage desk or tabletop cigarette pack holder. We recently sold a similar one at an estate sale. Could be used to hold a deck of cards, also.
I would appreciate it if you would play any music boxes that you are considering buying; just enough so we can see what tune they play. I'm always curious, and we seldom get to find out! You'd get to test them, and we could help you identify the tunes when you don't recognize them.
Great find on the clock since Waterford is no longer made in Ireland and that had the "Made in Ireland" sticker. When you grabbed the sled, I thought - didn't she have one on her porch last winter??? - weird the things that stick in your mind... LOL
That clock is a rare bowl over miniature, watch skeleton company clock made in Germany and you passed it up. I hope someone grabs it! I wish I could grab it for my parents because they would love it. They collect clocks.
I was corrected when I used the word sleigh for a sled. I think it’s a word used by those in the North, which I was for most of my life in NY. I was told a Sleigh is horse drawn, a Sled is for Sledding down the hill. Oh! You just said when the children go Sledding. I gave my Sled to Goodwill when I was moving to NC, and so sorry I did.
The little goose trinket box was adorable! Plus that clock might have been worth it to pick up cuz my parents are click collectors and a lot of the German clocks are worth money! The hole might have been were you put the key to wind it up like most wind up clocks.
It's a carriage clock - would have had a handle on top. It is extra nice that it has the visible balance wheel. But the handle appears to be completely broken off.
I so enjoy watching and going kinda shopping but it occured to me that I would like to know what aspect of doing all that you do ....what is your favorite thing?
I have a Waterford clock from my wedding 25 years ago. Waterford sells the clock face on line and they are a standard size to fit all of their clocks. I believe they make two sized faces.
I recognize the crystal pitcher you picked up and put down because I have the same one! I don't recall the maker or pattern, but it's from 1999 and could be bought at Macy's department store.
Thanks for not putting the c & s glass back! If you haven't sold...can I get a hint where to watch. I missed the mini kitties from the summer. I try to keep up.
Ok I had to screen shot those cat the bisq and porcelain figurines after looking them up I would suggest going back and grabbing lol JS and right in front of it was a carrier clock ? Idk but it was in my view of the cats and it popped up listing for 40 ish bucks 😂
i live down south (NC) and i feel like the GW prices should be cheaper but yours are cheaper up north… 🤔 the GWs around here don’t sell nice figurines for 3.49, more like $8 or so .
Thanks, Pretty Lamp Lady. If you know of any collectors or flippers near Atlanta, please let me know. My fiancee passed away in 2020, and left me with a lot of carnival glass and stuff that I know nothing about. Nana Tink asked me to send pics, but I was too lazy to send them.
When Jos says its a 'hobbiest piece', does she mean someone made it at home as part of their hobby - or is 'Hobbiest' a brand? Same question about Studio Art Pottery - made in an individual person's studio or is it a brand? TIA
It's not so much about where it was made as the level of the maker. Think of hobbiest like "amateur," so up close it may look a little sloppy, while Studio Art Pottery is done by a "professional" and would be artist level quality. It might have the marking/signature of an actual pottery company or an individual maker.
Hobbiest pieces are pieces where there is a bisque ceramic piece that is then hand painted by an individual. Sometimes at home but sometimes in a class at a "paint your own" studio. Student pieces are somewhat crudely done hand made pieces that beginner potters make. Studio pottery are hand built/thrown pottery pieces done by skilled potters. They may be professional or they may do it primarily as a hobby but they are accomplished potters.

The burl wood turned bowl is signed and should fetch a high return, some sell to $100
I have 20 or more signed David Winter cottages still in the box. Bought them at the PX in Germany decades ago. Forgot about them.
