Destiny 2: Datto's Thoughts on the End Game Experience
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 лип 2024
- Destiny 2's end game experience has a lot of people frustrated due to the removal of certain "grinds" that have since been removed from the game through design choices. In today's "Thoughts?" we'll discuss Destiny 2's grind, what it actually consists of, why people might be mad about it, and why Bungie's design philosophy means bad news for hardcore players looking for a more consistent grind experience. This is more of a discussion about WHY Destiny will probably never have an extensive end game experience as opposed to what could be done to remedy Destiny 2's current issues. Also, this is one of those videos that I'm really nervous about from every end of the spectrum.
On the whole "shouldn't have played it that quickly," comment chain that's going to boot up: Yes, I am well aware of the fact that I raced through the game and ate up the content. Part of that is because I do this for a job and need to be ahead of the curve. However, just because I hit this point faster than some of you might've does not mean that the end-game isn't considered a problem by certain players in the community. If you hit 305 power 3 weeks from now, you're still going to run into the same issues as players claim to have right now, just not as quickly. If you don't play often enough that you can make the grind to max power an expansion long grind (as in it'll take you 3-4 months to hit max power), then I don't think this video is really for you in the first place.

It’s really weird looking back on this after forsaken. Now that we actually have things to do in the endgame it feels like “how did we put up with this bullshit for a year”
How Beyond Light feels? :)
@@raven75257 Fine. Waaaaay better than Vanilla lol.
It was fine, only thing that needed changing was random rolls, a bit deeper armor mod system and Triumphs/Grimoire
Other than that, Sandbox, gameplay and activity wise it was perfect
Watching this back after two years and Shawdowkeep being released.... god the game was so bad, we’ve come a long way boys
still sucks :/
Ah yes, when every weapon had pre selected rolls, the crucible was boring to watch, exotics were mundane, no challenge except the raid and nightfalls, 2 primaries, heavy snipers, shottys, and fusions, no builds, and barebones stats. Safe to say that I'm still happy with the current state of the game despite issues.
3 months before Final Shape releases
@@ImSkips._3 weeks after final shape released??
I totally agree with you Datto . Currently at 295 without mods and I've completed the raid and played a bunch of Trials. Once you complete everything for the week you're just sitting stagnant until the next reset. After that it seems like the only thing you can do is do public events/Crucible without any significant reward.
Ralf how it is for me and I did this weeks nightfall once cause it is cancer and I only did the raid once cause I can never get a team I wish there was more to do I love this game
Play other games bro! Plenty of fantastic games out there!
Christopher Don the thing is that wasn't generally as much of a problem in D1. Especially post ttk. There were exotics worth grinding for. There were legendaries worth grinding for a god roll. That's all gone. There are a few good weapons. Maybe two good exotics. The rest is infusion fuel. When you don't need infusion fuel anymore there's no real reason to play.
well, enjoyment as a reward is a thing for me... in pvp at least :)
I don't play PVP and my weekly activities are basically flashpoints, nightfall, strikes and Ikora missions. For me that is enough for a couple of days and then maybe if I have time I will try the Raid with some friends. More of my friends are family men now and they don't have enough time to play the game anymore.
whats the point of a loot based game if there's no grinding
Bugsy and all the loot is rubbish.
Stefan O'Neil well that is what happens when you make every gun the exact same. It just guarantees that certain guns will rain supreme. The thing that was nice about D1 is that even when those guns like thorn, sauros, clever dragon and many others were really powerful, there were always guns that you could use to counter them. May it be god roll or just it feeling comfortable. When everything is the same for everyone you loose the reason to find a gun you truly like. Instead people will just use the best gun in the game because nothing comes close to their strength. I think the way trials has been these last two weeks is very evident. Why would you use any gun other than the mida? What sucks the most is there are some really neat guns that feel fun to use, but you try to take it into the crucible and you get shredded by the same guns over and over. All through D1 I used the same exact exotic. Bad juju. It was never really meta nor was it ever out of meta. I enjoyed that gun completely and in those times where thorn was strong, I still could get first place on my team in crucible because I found a gun that fit me. Now there is no reason to explore guns. There are so many cool exotics that just live in the shadows of the obviously godly weapons. There is a secondary pulse rifle that shoots black holes for fucks sake. How cool is that, but when up against the mida than you are at an instant disadvantage
Agree 100% that's my whole thing
I dunno, I play destiny because I enjoy it and the 'rewards' to me are that I had a good time. The grind in D1 actually made me dislike the game more than anything. It kind of made D2 less enjoyable as a result.
+Cameron Wolfe Eh... what? The meta of only a few guns existed in D1 and it exists in D2. The difference is... this time there will be very few players (very unlucky players) who did not manage to get the 'meta' guns. I'd say that's a good thing. In D1 there were times when I wondered why should I bother with Pvp? I try to play regular crucible, trials, or the iron banner and as it turns out I do not have the meta guns to compete effectively. And as a result I get gunned down by less skilled players... Besides that, grinding endless hours for that god roll and often times doing activities I don't particularly enjoy is a terrible design. I simply want to enjoy the crucible... is that so much to ask? I don't want an endless stupid grind for that god tier bullshit weapon. You will always have meta weapons... they existed before and they exist now.
Honestly The Taken King is probably better than Destiny 2 atm.
Itudios2 Easily better than D2. Everything about ttk was on point the music, the weapons the extra classes, even the lore(book of sorrows) was dope as fak!!! Gotta say I'm pretty upset with the way D2 is looking in the long run
Sadly, i agree.
Itudios2 when TTK came out I didn't like it (being a HC year 1 player), however I slowly appreciated how much it added to the game, with the new strikes and new enemies, to the different weapon perks and a great story. The raid was more challenging than Crota, and was actually more fun (still can't beat VOG though)...
Sadly it's true and I've been here since year 1
sorry if im not in the loop but doesnt it make sense for an expansion to be better than a base game?
Datto, thanks for your coverage and honest feedback of Destiny 2. I hope things are well.
Amen to this. Honestly, I'm finding his, Holtzman's, and others' streams/videos more engaging than the actual game itself.
**Opens up D1**
*"Well, I still never got that god rolled Pali."*
*"Nor did I solo Oryx challenge mode. Time to get to work."*
4 years later I got the god roll pali :)
@@jamescarrotcsl8 :)
Interesting recommendation for late 2019.
Or 2021
and mid 2021
Or 2022
Or 2024 lmao
This game is a big middle finger to their core fanbase who stuck around for 3 years and supported them
Well not for me. I played destiny 1, it was fun, so i bought destiny 2 which is also fun.
H e i s e n b e r g the game is fun but there is no meaningful endgame. It doesn't have the longevity that D1 had
Brennan Eveland I agree, like, Bungie will get those super high numbers, but what happens when those casuals leave? The hardcore players will still play but eventually leave because there isn't anything to grind for. So Destiny will literally turn into a game that only has a lot of playtime when new content releases.
they don't care as long as they're getting $$$
Truly
I dont understand why they dont have strike specific loot though because that added something to each strike that was good for hardcore or casual alike
The Sentinel Just like he said in the video. If you put rng based strike specific loot in the game you would have to grind for it and according to bungie that isn't fun for casuals thus it won't be in the game.... yaaaay :)))))
The Sentinel probably because you can’t just que up individual strikes from the map like in d1 :/ I agree with you though
FacelessEmperor Another weird thing... why can't you select individual strikes? Because it would add something to the game and probably somehow confuse casuals. I really don't like this philosophy and am more than a little disappointed they cling to it as hard as they do.
Man I remember finding out about the Theosyion Vibrissae gauntlets for the warlock back on D1 and making it my mission to get them and remembering the feeling of accomplishment when I finally got them after running the echo chamber strike for multiple days
Yeah Im just a little bored with nothing to do in the game. Its great for casuals but shallow for hardcore players
Looking at this video from post Beyond Light and a season before Witch Queen. It’s crazy to think that this was an actual time in Destiny 2. What a dark time this was
Oh how far have we risen
Datto your vids are freaking amazing
VadizV AGREED
U
Couldn't have said it better myself g
It's not impossible to entertain the casual crowd and deliver a somewhat meaningful grind.
A good modsystem would be a start. Armor could have 3 slots, 2 for Resilience, Mobility and Recovery Mods and 1 "utility" mod like reduced recoil, faster reload, more ammo etc. Maybe give raid armor a 4th raid specific slot (Run faster during gauntlet, harder to spot in the gardens, increased resilience while you stand on a plate during baths.)
I've had really high expectations for the lore this time around. I thought they want to make it more accessible by putting it into the game especially for the new players. But new players have probably no idea wtf is going on. Even people who are interested in the lore need content creators like byf to catch and understand most of it. They could have put a lore bible in the game. Do stuff to unlock nodes and reward us with short videos like the TTK subclass ones, concept art etc. There are so many topics to cover: Golden Age, The Collapse, Races (Society, Enemys, Armory, Leadership, History), Exotics, everything that happend during D1 etc.
I see so many wasted opportunities it really pains me.
I feel like he wanted to say the game was bad.
but couldn't cause bungie would get butt hurt and not invite him to cool things or give him free shit. The new Bungie is sensitive
He didn't mean the game is bad. He meant that the formula that made us all fall in love with Destiny 1 has gone.
Sam So he said that compared to Destiny 1 Destiny 2 sucks ass which is pretty much the same statement.
2017 : there will probably never be something to grind afger power cap
2021 : grind for how much time you want (possibly infinite) for perfect armor stats and god rolls on weapons with the deepest perk pools ever.
I’m so glad the game did a complete 180 lol
I'm just disappointed in Bungies lack of creativity of the exotic weapons and armor. I also thought it was a bad idea to remove rng weapon rolls. It took out the excitement of getting your favorite weapon out of a package. No longer are you hoping for a god roll. It's always just a preset roll with nothing to be hyped for
FRAYNETRAIN I understand why some feel the exotic armors lacks creativity, but almost all the exotic weapons are incredibly creative and unique.
FRAYNETRAIN dude all the exotics are great and better than any D1 exotics.
FRAYNETRAIN agreed. Once u get the weapon there's no point of getting it again
FRAYNETRAIN people like you are the type to only ask for weaker weapons and changes, if you don't like it then don't play it
GodsPerfectIdiot what are you on? D1 exotics were great compared to this shit. I've seen 4 exotic armors where the perk is "increased initial accuracy and ready speed of a specific weapon" bland as fuck IMO.
Datto you should do a video on Year 1 Destiny vs Destiny 2.
^This.
Adam Toth destiny 2 is way better than y1 destiny without a doubt
Nick Rata are you on drugs?
Nick Rata year 1 was the most fun for me
Cameron Anderson Exactly this.
Great video Datto, thanks for the honesty. I agree on every level with all your points
As someone who joined destiny 2 in season 10 I cannot believe that this is the same game. It is just so different in so many bad ways, they have really turned it around.
I don't understand why Bungie dumbed down the class spec system
CamSK IMO the classes are better I feel like each build and subclasses feels cooler and each perk impacts me when playing more.
Ikr skill trees split my favorite perks into different areas
CamSK because they made the game for casuals
CamSK balance
Datto literally just explained why...
Bungo: Should we make a good and complex end game? Activision: No fuck that we make it simple and easy. Free money bitches
Lool the fans diserve more than that but now buying streamers and UA-camrs it's working so we'll. I wanted a epic game but that it......
Bungie is on the exact same level as Activision in the Blame Game.
Jorge Paixão the fan disserve?
Spaghetti overlord ok, thanks.
You forgot about Blizzard
It's a miracle the game survived after y1. Props to anyone who stayed with destiny 2,
I'm still waiting for their "April update" styled patches to come out to get us out of the content droughts like they said they would....
Bruh this is so accurate holy shit.
Wtf 319 likes nice to see so many people agree
I love how the game came out two weeks ago and people are already topped out.
yep. haven't even played it in a week
beat it in the first week, wasnt really that hard because again the grind wasnt that great, just beat the story line (not that hard) and run a couple of adventures/public events collect powerful gear when youre light lv 265 and bam
Bungie are shifting more and more to an FPS, to small, streamlined, scripted experiences, to what they know. And the more they move there, the more I fall out of love with Destiny. I see now that as much as I loved them in the past; and their ability to tell huge stories with loads of interconnected finer details, they aren’t the right studio to make the game I wanted them to make. I was wrong to hold out hope that they would work towards the original vision for Destiny. Maybe another studio can step up. Find that beautiful blend of FPS, RPG, and MMO that I’m craving, that Bungie so slightly missed. All it needs on top of that gameplay is some solid lore. Here’s hoping. And hey, maybe Bungie can do a good job on their weird, open world, not quite Halo.
imagine if borderland creators took over destiny
Sam Harrington They aren't the same Bungie as the Halo days. Bungie lost a lot of the original talent after they left Microsoft and when they made Destiny. It's best just to refer to them as Bungievision now.
MyName Jeff Activision money grabbers are pretty much the main issue.
If they weren't with them, the DLCs are probably going to be free, if any of you are familiar with Popcap.
The Real Cactoos yes
Sam Harrington yeah right now I'm feeling like there isn't a good fps anymore. Halo 5 is nice and fun, but I like the grind of destiny... something that is gone now.
Seeing this 5 years later made me realize how much the game has actually gotten MORE mmo/rpg-like. They completely changed course from the launch of the game. I recently restarted my titan to see what the new player grind is like and boy is it a daunting task. There’s so much story content. So many abilities, armors, and weapons to get. Getting well-stated armor and well-rolled weapons takes a ton of time and materials that you have no hope of getting until you’re sufficiently able to get by with what you’ve got. Build-crafting is nuts. You get the point.
We’re not mad at Bungie; we’re just disappointed...
Kevin Lasher are you by any chance a teacher
Not me.
It's unfortunate for the majority of the people that will watch this video that the game feels catered to the people who invest the least, but as they say in business, that's business. Just like Bungie moving to PS4 for exclusives.
bonefat21 it's anticonsumer
bonefat21 I don't understand why this game has to cater to people with less time. They can play something else.no reason to shit on all the hardcore fans.
Saying that hardcore players are basically the root of toxicity is unfounded and imo just plain wrong. Bungie has learned that sheep are easier to herd than wolves. By that I mean, the casual 2 to 3 hour a week player will play what ever Bungie throws at them and like it. The Hardcore or 3 to 4 hour a day player will know the ins and outs and have complaints. So when there are more sheep than wolves, why not cater to them, get your money and move on.
guess its time to drop the game, oh well it was a nice ride but its now obvious about which direction theyre going
Chaotic ϟ agreed I’m done. As a year one Vet this is disappointing
Brilliant video! Every word in stone.
*Subscribed*
Very well thought out. I believe you hit the nail on the head.
My endgame has always been fashion.
The first thing I did after completing the story was see who gave some sick looking gear. I'm having a hard time finding robes that I really want after always wearing Voidfang Vestments in the first game. As a Voidwalker main, Wings of Sacred Dawn won't cut for me.
Allomite the chest piece from Ikora is dope, philomath robe and optimacy robe from eververse are also really nice looking. The Gensym Io set is pretty lit as well
LOL how's the one time use shaders working out then....
USMCRiptide Not bad but could be better.
Sure thing buddy, enjoy your brand new recolored armor from Factions Rally.
Don't get me wrong, I love Destiny 2 but I feel like the endgame is kinda weak.
Definitely, I don't get why grinding is a bad thing. You put time and effort to try and get an item and when you finally get it, it feels amazing. Like getting Gjallerhorn for the first time.
Ian Dye yeah there's like not much to do
The casuals buying the game should know what they're getting into before buying it. When my dad played D1 he didnt understand any of the tier 12 gear, he didnt work on god roll weapons, he still bought the expansion packs and just played the story and the new activities that came with them. The casuals will play the game one way or another.
It’s non existent
Jacob Chabot I totally agree. But I see why Bungie did that, as Datto says, It's to make the casuals come back after the end game, to the new expansions and it's content. Now, I really think they really left the people who have more time to play in the dust and carried on to get more money they could possibly get.
Excellent assessment! Thank you for making the points you did and your take on why D2 is the way that it is. Very much appreciated video!
Good for you datto. I appreciate how you will actually speak your mind
I hate the new gear system. Static rolls in what is supposed to be an rpg is an awful idea
+xZohannn But RNG rolls in an FPS are awful as well. Double edged sword.
Choke On My Lijiang Tower true, someone could argue both ways. But bungie considers destiny an rpg, but with static rolls on all gear, there is nothing rpg about that
Hopefully this will change with dlc as the playerbase is filtered down
Dorito joe if it doesn't change they are going to lose a large part of their hardcore player base
MonkeyMadness 777 Sadly they arent because we, the hardcore playerbase love the game for what it could be. And that delusion will keep us playing.
Lewis Palmer Not everyone is an idiot though. After all I’ve seen of Destiny 2, as D1 Vet, I’m done with the 10 year ride
Lewis Palmer well they are definitely losing me. I already bought the expansion pass but if they game isn't good by then I'm done with the game. Hopefully Bethesda or gearbox release a new game xD
MonkeyMadness 777 I wish someone else had came up with Destiny’s concept and executed it better
Well, I believe most of that you said was spot on. About the Luke Smith quote, about doing something about your "n Better Devils", he said in the same quote he was not sure it would make it into launch, but that they where working on it.
Excellent video, no asking for subscribers or likes, straight-forward and well explained. Couldn't agree more.
Couldn't agree more. I put over 4,000 hours into the first destiny, hit 304 power level 10 days ago and got all the exotic weapons and hunter gear (Hunter main) and now I can't be bothered to play the game apart from the reset stuff because I need a 305 cloak and maybe the raid if I can be bothered. The game is so bland and there's literally nothing to do for us hardcore / top 1% players (well, the top 20% I guess but still), rip the grind, rip Destiny.
Im not downing your commitment. All I am going to say is rip the over commitment to a single game. The days of having your "main game" are pretty much done at this point. For me this happened when star wars galaxies went down. I now have a rotating set of games I play all the time and its worked out really well.
Rip ur social life
Reid Becker can't kill what you never had.
4,000 hrs. If my math is correct you'd have to play 6.5 hours on average everyday for 3 years straight to reach 4000 hours lol.
4000 is a long time lol... It took me about a total of 40 game time hours to get 3 characters to light 400. I'm no elitist, but more of an occasional Destiny player. I've done each raid about 10 times
Being grimoire scores bacc
thanks as always for your vids datto
Exactly the way I feel and I haven't even hit 305 yet. Great video Datto.
I completely agree. As a player that has put a lot into the Destiny series it seems like they have turned their backs against us. It feels like Destiny is losing its potential and what made it special.
They began to lose what made them special before Vanilla came out. Joe and Marty.
They made the guns pre set so when they do nerfs and buffs they can apply it onto individual guns rather than the gun type as a whole
Destiny WAS good in Y1...every year after that it has been meh.
I'm glad someone's talking about this. I would have never expected myself to be less excited to play Destiny 2 than I was to play Destiny 1...
Your idea for a grind on those eververse items is perfect. That's all I'd need....
Several good points were made on this subject and I commend datto for his reasoning of this subject as a whole, this video helped me realize bungie' s plan for the average player and although I am a avid player of destiny 2 and have done most of the activities within the gameplay (PvP mainly), these points do apply to the majority and have opened my eyes to bungie's vision. Thank you datto, I will see you next time,
Reused exotics and armor from d1. 13 easy achievements. No grim score. Dumbed down skill tree. I agree with everything in this video. Content droughts will still be a thing in Destiny 2. It takes a week to go through all easy content
Kinda hate how easy lost sectors are. Would have beeb cool if they were not on the map and were 280 or more.
Same. They made it sound so interesting leading up to the game. But what we got was just more of the same boring crap..same enemies ect. Nothing exciting or challenging at all.
Lost sectors is a disappointment tbh
They're easy, they're on the map, and discovering them isn't hard at all - there's a massive white sign next to them. IT's not even hard to find the entrances, as bungie put it. At least make it so that some have things you need to trigger to reveal them.
They hyped up what is esentially a room full of enemies with a chest with Blue rewards inside...
Lost Sectors either need a serious rework, or go away in favor of something else.
i dont even bother doin them cause i saw them give like no important loot
there is no more reason to play any pve activities after you got a char up to 300+ just give the new char ur weapons and an exotic you bought on the main char, play some events for 45 mins and you pretty much got ur 2. char to at least 295
Thank you so much for your always thoughtful and constructive thoughts Datto. I agree with you and welcome Destiny 2's changes and End Game. There's a lot to do, but it doesn't feel as much as a grind this time. Granted there are multiple drops, but those with multiple characters will benefit.
Keep up the awesome job. :D
Fair assessment my man. I wish they could find a happy medium in there somewhere. I do not have the time like some but I want a little grind.
100000000% agree. Every. Single. Point. Was spot on
I miss Destiny's Golden Age
ThaMago taken king
Good times
Mr. R thats how dissapointing destiny became that ttk seem liked a huge improvement
love destiny but have to agree
Joshua Mendoza yup
agree with you 100% i‘m also sad about the fact that there is no strike exclusive stuff, hope that they will add just little things like this later to this game.
Great video man... you said everything I didn't know I wanted to say
This was a very well-written script. That being said the only truly hardcore things Bungie has ever put in the game was outbreak prime and to a lesser extent the age of triumph update. Glad I got to be apart of them since it looks as if Bungie will never return to that style of content.
DarkStarMessiah 99879 I think touch my malice was good too
sunny_side_up true but imo it wasnt as convoluted as the Outbreak Prime quest.
weren't those by the Live Team? I wasn't there for the ROI update but if it was by the Live Team then their changes would be more targeted for the people who had kept playing. I think it will occur again but atm their targeting the casuals because that is what has brought them immediate sales and they're still enjoying the game. Once there are content droughts and only the hardcore are playing, then Bungie's perspective will shift and they'll include little things like the Live Team did to try to keep us playing until the next content update.
Fabio Esteves good point. I hope you're right.
I get your outbreak prime style quest not being in destiny 2. I don't understand why you think a age of triumph update will not return. That was an update at the end of 3 years of content with 4 raids. They also had a year of triumph update at the end of every year. Why do you think they will not do it again?
I feel like loot is way to easy to get, legendary and exotics no longer feel special any more and you get higher gear before ever playing the raid which you should get after not before it
Dylan porter yeah cause exotics felt so special in d1 with three of coins I guess
Dylan porter plus exotics in this game r either d1 exotics or there trash so
Datto answered all my questions thank you :)
Well said Datto...I knew early on after I heard about no random weapon rolls etc etc that my time in destiny would be less than D1...I do appreciate the work they put into the story and the world in general...but I miss the hunt !
I just feel like the "end game" arrives much too soon. I wish the grind lasted for longer than it did.
Just bring back heroic strikes, let us pick what crucible mode we want to play, give us challenges/goals to give us cool shit. Like Datto said get 1000 crucible kills to get a emote or shader(s) complete 100 strikes to get this legendary item. We need goals, we need SOMETHING TO GRIND FOR
About the "average player". Yeah it sucks if you can't go flawless but you shouldn't be given a trials gun for doing nothing you should at least have to do something for it, like play 10 games of crucible or something. Getting something for nothing is just dumb.
SuperShotgun8 trials is cancer, D2 is cancer, There is no meaning behind it, the story is bad, the gameplay is bad, everything dissapoints me. Just add good Content is what I say.
SuperShotgun8 I gotta agree with this I'm a potato at this game and so are my trials team for the most part and we lost a trails match 6-1 and I still got a legendary weapon like wtf. It isn't even rewarding because we did shit and we got great shit like wtf.
but in destiny 1 people got legendary rewards before going flawless, I think it was like 6 wins or something
Yeah, you got a armor piece for 5 wins and weapon for 7. I think that's still a better system than what's in D2
@Datto - So what will you do if you are correct? Would you move on/away from Destiny and return only for DLC releases?
I'm happy you made this video with other destiny youtubers they might not pay attention but maybe with you they will and decide to improve their game
One more thing why are the perks on weapons automatically unlocked
They removed the mechanic of having to level up weapons in D2.
MattWilko3k That sucks
The Mighty Vit he explains it in the video lol
KJA70 oh looks like it missed it
I don't think that's really a problem, it was always more of an annoyance leveling up weapons and really served no purpouse to the end result.
Loot diversity and lack of it is the main issue of D2. There is no real desire to do end game content right now. RNG on drops is not the answer. More perks, desirable perks and a more variable armor setup is what we need. For example, raid armor should not be just cosmetically different then all random engram armor. Mods are also very lacklustre in their diversity. End game content is pretty much the same that has been in the past, but the loot is very lacklustre. Cayde-6 was lying: there is no ''TON OF LOOT''... yet.
bitsurugi THANK YOU,rng perks are bs ,and removing them was the way to go ,but the fact that they didn't compensate that with a ton of loot variety is mind-boggling,how long have they been working on this game?
Actually there is a shit Ton of shit aka Blue stuff
HSR Shoxy lol the stuff no one is going to keep
Man this really bummed me out. You're so right.
100% agree with your full assessment Datto. The only thing that I can say, is that hopefully, with these somewhat planned weekly schedules, events such as the faction rally will be out regularly. It seems almost as if they are trying to trickle out content for end game to keep people invested between expansions. Which I am ok with, as long as it provides meaningful content that is not just, go do public events over and over for a new type of faction coin each week. Only time will tell though.
Also exotics really dont feel special. I miss extremely different weapons like Ice breaker and the last word, Sleeper stimulate, red death, patience and time.
Armor is the same way
basketballhead99 no one misses the ice breaker after the end of year 3
No rewards for the elite gamers because the casual gamers would bitch and not come back. No reason to play for endless hours because I'll get nothing for it. Not even an emblem, a shader, or something else solely cosmetic
Harby "Casuals" are people with jobs and hard work ethics who would rather not waste their time grinding in a video game, not 24 year old babies who live in their moms closet. You people act like Destiny is the only game out there, when there are far better ones.
Almighty Loaf I go to work every day and still play destiny every day? Get off your high horse and stop assuming anyone that plays the game better than you is a no life lmao
Almighty Loaf So, are you assuming that I live in my parents basement? Because you're quite wrong. I have my own house. I have a full time job too. I play this game a lot because I'm a huge fan of it. And, for more hardcore gamer who do okay it slot, it's unrewarding. There's nothing that says that I did something because there are too many casual gamers that would whine about it. You've essentially proven my point.
Almighty Loaf I'm a hardcore Destiny player and I play a lot more games than just Destiny. Hell, I'm a extra hardcore player on FFXIV, with over 4k hours logged over the course of 4 years, and I still have time to be social, go to school, and enjoy other games.
Being an elite gamer and being an elitist are not the same.
Datto you are one of my favourite youtubers since summer 2014
Very interesting video. While I'm not happy about it, I did find myself going...yeah...so that's why I log in and putter around. Once the weeklies are done there isn't a whole lot to it. Thanks!
It's very obvious that this game was built for casual play.
but destiny 1 wasnt thats what made it good, grinding for the god rolls on gear/weapons and the attribute system, everything is handed to us easily now, bungie is catering to the casuals because $$$$$ despite the hardcores being their for them during Y1 where the game was a laughing stock up until taken king, but its a business so this really shouldn't be new, dropping the game now then endlessly pursuing that "change" and having my money taken, a shame
Chaotic ϟ That's how AAA games work. The masses don't play it, then it's not worth investing in.
The Grimoire score being removed was one of my biggest concerns since they announced it. Maxing out my score had insane replay value. I loved being able to mindlessly run strikes, while I listened to a podcast or something, in order to work towards Grimoire. I'm not a streamer what so ever, but I actually got in the habit at one point of trying to log hours on Twitch towards the 'Can't Stop The Signal' emblem.
Once I have a few sets of gear decked out in the desired shaders, and I've looted every Lost Sector and Region Chest, I'm not sure what else there will be for me to do. *As a Hardcore 100% PvE player, Bungie, please give me more long-term charts to fill out and bars to fill up!*
Also, where is our ToM-esque Exotic Quest? 🤓
Happy birthday bud!!!
so when i left the game i was at 290+, been back a week and everyone is at 500+. Did i miss something?
😂
You hit the nail on the head Datto.
Thanks for pointing out Crucible kill scoring. Assists= Kills really bother me.

This man speaks to me on a personal level
Well thought out as usual, Datto. I didn't think of a lot of the methods behind the madness you described here. Make me feel better being a "hardcore" player and actually have a sigh of relief when I pop in a different game since I don't feel like I'm missing too much by taking time off of Destiny. #iwishyourteamwasmyraidguidesforguidedgames #slimchance #wishinonehandshitintheother #whichfillsfirst #hashtag
The most lucid and intelligent summary I have seen. Bungie has clearly targeted people like me - y'know, folks with a job and a family. Kudos.
I literally could not agree with you more datto. Where is the content worth playing for the hardcore community such as myself. You can play this game casual and thats cool and all, but jf i want to progress and/or have fun as a hardcore player there is nothing there for me. Thank you datto for speaking out for us.
So I've played D2 for about 10 days and I feel really bored. My best character is at ~280 power and the only things left to do are the raid, trials and prestige nightfall. After only one and a half week and I'm already sick of everything. I don't bother looking for a fireteam for raid and so on because I know there is no purpose to doing it. Just quite disappointed in the real grind not being there, I had fun still during many hundreds of hours in D1, but gonna stop playing at less than 100 for D2. Not going to spend money on DLC that'll bring me no lasting experiences.
i'm just waiting for the prestige raid, 304 on 2 chars and 305 on my hunter, all achievements fixed, now im just helping other ppl through raid and getting their gear up, and im glad to help more ppl into the game. and i still are in love with this franchise, and i love to see what they have in store for us this coming years.
I'm just trying to get armor sets, and have each set have mods for a specific class, and then an all around utility set (like something that gives you more resilience, etc.). It's pretty fun
This is completely right, i've hardly played this week because im 305 and i've done almost everything. at this point im just waiting for the next dlc. it really bums me out honestly
Reece Butler same dude my clan is already moved in from destiny 2 :( there is nothing else to do after you hit 305

yep totally agree, theirs nothing to do mostly after the weekly activity!
Good stufff man, you made me think of all the behind the scenes discussions that must take place at BunjiVision. Oh to be a fly on that wall. I played D1 every day since launch up until about six months ago. I personally decided to stop playing because I had done everything and I wanted to build up (excitement) to Destiny 2. Do you think maybe streamer and youtubers might be put off because of lack of content = lack of income? Very thought provoking (to me), again good stuff man. Much appreciate it, please don't take any of this the wrong way.
My favorite part of Destiny was the grind(before they started giving out free shit). My hours have dropped significantly when compared to D1 because I hardly have to do anything to get max level. I haven't gone flawless, I've done the Nightfall once, and I haven't touched the raid but I'm at 295 power.
Logan dent pshhh i was 300 by second reset. by the end of second reset i was 300+ on all three of my characters. Week three has just been me farming RNG to get to 305 on all characters, failed that btw but luck. And fashion farming for all my characters.
It's hard to hear but everything you said it's true. I miss Destiny 1 already
Hey man! something interesting to know is that all the named yellow bar enemies that spawn on flash point locations will grant you a rare emblem after killing them for the 10th time. I have two of the emblems right now. One is called "Gone Hunting" and you get it by killing Naktal, Fury of Savathun and the other is "C-T-A-T-O-D-L" and you get by killing the big shank that spawns at Siren's Watch public event both on Titan. Finally something cool to grind for ;)
Behnam McDelijani is this true??
David Hayes yes I'm not trolling d2.destinygamewiki.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Gone_Hunting&mobileaction=toggle_view_mobile
Good analysis man! Agree with everything you said
What you fail to realize is even the casuals are bored. There's only so much public events any one human being can stand before it becomes boring, tedious and frustrating. I'd love to play the strikes but it feels pointless due to the bland reward system. I'd love to explore the beautiful landscapes that Bungie has spent years creating but it feels pointless without anything rewarding that curiosity. That's what ghost shells were. Your reward for being a curious explorer, and not looking up guides that tell you where everything is. Gold chests as well. The new region chest system is far to casual even for casuals. Pulling your map out repeatedly while lining yourself up to a clearly marked spot doesn't feel rewarding at all. It's tedious, bland and discourages exploration. Why bother looking for hidden areas (of which there are plenty...) if they're all COMPLETELY empty anyway? Pointless.
That's the trend of this comment. After a while, the game feels pointless to play. Hows that supposed to make a casual like me come back again? Ill never do a raid. Ill never play PvP. What else is left? Public events and a non rewarding strike system. Thats it.
Donny McIvor well if you’re into destiny lore there actually IS a reward for curiosity from roaming around, the scannables, you gain more knowledge about the destiny universe which in my opinion is very enjoyable and fulfilling.
i hate that they marked lost sectors on map just leave them hidden in world with the marking on a wall but nooooooooooooooooooooooooo
You hit the nail on the head. Lots of games today, including D1, cater to multiple different gamer profiles: explorers, collectors, competitors, etc. Casuals and hardcore players alike can lean towards different areas of the game that they enjoy. I agree with you, that it seems like D2 eliminated the achievement, collection, and by proxy, the explorer elements of the game that made it enjoyable for me. Datto mentioned in the video that it did so to reduce player toxicity. I'm not sure if I totally buy that, but if so, what's left for me to enjoy? We can no longer chase that elusive ship or grind out 150 hydra kills, and nothing was added to replace it. You can cater to both casual and competitive audiences. You can also cater to both collectors and competitors. Hopefully in the months ahead they will made some changes.
Why would you not want to do a RAID? Raids are just really overly elaborate strikes. Much more fun though. But now they do seem less rewarding that previously.
Gamerz Grip they should've been called marked sectors...lol
Let's hope to the game gods with Casey Hudson back on board at Bioware that Anthem can give us a shared world shooter experience with much deeper RPG/MMORPG elements and a much more desirable endgame. Destiny 2 trended in the complete opposite direction of what I personally would want the game to be. Even the campaign, while "better" than D1, was as shallow as the RPG and progression elements of this instalment.
ahh Casey Hudson... can't thank him enough.
I'm SO stoked to see how that game turns out. When I heard that Drew Karpyshyn (lead writer for Mass Effect 1&2, KOTOR) is the lead writer, it started the hype train for me.
Bobby Hooten woah, I didn't know that! Thanks for adding some fuel to the engine of my hype train 😅
yes do please hype up Anthem so i can somehow turn into a disappoint and we will be seein you in to comments crying about that ffs
Luna Kaze because crying about people "crying" is so noble 😅. Games are subjective, people are allowed to have opinions. Just because Destiny 2 isn't the game I wanted doesn't mean it isn't what others wanted/are still excited about.
some times I like the grind it's fun to see that one or two weapons drop and seeing the new perks and the way it plays and the grind will be worth it when you get that one weapon that you want
One of the things that might be a step in the right direction would be to put random rolls back on weapons.......AND.....include a chance to re-roll the weapon, similar to what they did with IB drops using your currency that was earned through grinding. It would make running content relevant again, and it would certainly be something to grind for. I knew having set rolls on the weapons was going to be an issue sooner rather than later.
My endgame for Destiny has been PvP and D2 PvP is just fucking garbage. The games are so dam slow the timer usually runs out before the score cap is reached. Not to mention 90% of people run Mida and Uriels gift. There is just no variety in D2.
MADMAN SLADE and if you try to have fun and use something besides the two Meta guns, you get melted and team shotted. Idk why, but I felt more self capable in destiny 1. Like I could whoop ass by myself and didn’t really need a team that much because I felt semi powerful with whatever I was running. PvP is a waste nowadays.
Do you remember Thorn/TLW meta in year 1 of D1 ?...
MIDA/Uriel's is not even close of being that bad.
The only thing that i dont like about PvP is the 4v4 format, other than that everything about D2's PvP is better than D1's PvP.
Dantiel Barbosa Not really because I was rocking Suros also the Thorn was garbage for most of my time playing. I dipped out around the time the Crota dlc came out.
I'm looking forward to the future of Destiny 2 just as we as a community enjoyed year 2 and 3 of Destiny 1. We can play other games while we wait for resets and hell December is not that far away.
Agreed 100%. At light level 297 having completed the raid, I'm about to call it "done". Will be back for an expansion though.
Have to start by saying that I hardly ever comment (probably my 2nd time ever). I fully agree with your comments & views, this time around something seems to be missing, what a shame that after 2 weeks I seem to have collected all exotic Weapons and indeed very little to look forward to.
