If you have group of pawns that you like if you rest in a inn or tavern they will update to the current pawn actual lvl so you won’t have to switch every time you level up just keep that in mind.
If you’re exploring and find a riftstone, use it as an opportunity to swap pawn quests you’ve completed, and load your recruited pawns with heavy resources and gear before dismissing them. It all gets transferred to storage so you can keep exploring and conserve those ferrystones.
Fighter- Tank and DPS Thief- Speedy Combo DPS Archer- Range Support/Flier Nuker Mage- Healer and Magic User Personally for me I'm going to do an all around of one of each base class for starters. Early game might be tough for some so having all your areas covered is probably best with this set up. Later on with Advance and Hybrid mixing and matching is more flexible. And the FF1 comparison is actually spot on. I used that example for the first Dragons Dogma way back when explaining the game to my friends. Lol.
If damage resistances work they did in DD1, a good note for party composition is to make sure you can do some magic damage and some physical damage since some enemies will be highly resistant or invulnerable to one damage type. Covering different elements is also nice but less necessary
That's also how I'm planning my party setup. For my Warfare I'll definitely have Mystic Spear Hand because it looks awesome. The other 2 vocations will probably be a mage and sorcerer for healing, buffing, spell syncing, and AOE damage.
this will be my first Dragons Dogma game, had no clue about it until the hype spread to my UA-cam feed and well timed as I've been looking for a single player game to dump hours into after playing online multiplayer to the point it's not as fun anymore, super excited for this as a dark souls enjoyer.
I'll prolly be a mage first, but thief and archer look fun as well. I wanna eventually get warfarer and run sorc, spear, and trickster with 3 sorc pawns. Imagine the cast time with 4 sorcs!
Thief (me) + Mage(MP) + Archers + Sorcerer or Tank, depending on what's appealing in the rift at the time. I built a thief fallen elf princess as my arisen in the character creator. " Nim'aella " - White Storm. My main pawn will kinda be her elder relative, like father or grand-father or such, same eyes colors and birthmarks. A mage , " Faen'draugh " - White Wolf . His last act before dying in battle to the ur-dragon, was to transfer his soul to the pawn realm, the rift, with the help of an ancient artifact. So that he could continue to be her protector. She's the "dagger storm", wild, untamed, and he is the wisdom, her "place of quiet" and trainer for magic (yeah I got a whole narrative in my mind, so ... shush). My arisen will probably evolve to spearhand because they also seems quite fast-paced and pretty neat. And it makes sense, as she will be influenced by the magic trainings of Faen'draugh. ... omg i'm so involved in this, that character creator really got into me. I still regret that the green vocation tree is not a tree at all, as it's the thief and ... that's it. I mourned the butchering of the magic archer , wtf no daggers -> no way José. Maybe, ... maybe, i'll tackle the trickster in a second playtrough.
I made my arisen Kratos and my main pawn as MCU thor. So i was set on magic spearhand for me and sorcerer for thor. This vid was great to help me figure out how to balance around that. Thinking ill go mage and archer to test myself and replace archer with soldier if i need a tank.
An important thing to add is the elemental weaknesses. Having a mage or sorcerer with the right elemental buff capabilities will allow you to target elemental weaknesses of enemies, in some cases dealing much more damage than without (ice vs saurians for example). That is a very important thing to consider with party composition but it's not entirely necessary. Also you keep saying "wayfarer" in these videos instead of warfarer, very dumb nitpick I realize but to me it's kind of funny. Thanks for the vids I can't wait for more detailed guides upon release! I've been a fextra fan since the original dark souls wiki they made and I love the channel👌
My first party will be Mystic Spear, Mage(MainPawn), Ranger(Hired), Fighter(Hired) Second will be Warfarer, Sorcerer(MP), Sorcerer(Hired) Mage(Hired) Third will be Trickster, Thief(MP), Warrior(Hired) and Mage(Hired) I changed my mind about the 2nd team. Warfarer having the ability to multiclass makes it the perfect complement to a Sorcerer strike team. It can be set up as Sorcerer, Mage and Magic Archer or Sorc/Mage/Mystic or Trickster/Sorc/Mage
Just downloaded Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen on my ps5. Never played it but the sequel got my interest peaked so I figured I’d give it a try. I’m 2-3 hours in and loving this game. Definitely getting the sequel. Just realized I can hire one extra pawn. I got one I made and One the game gave me. So that’s cool I can add one more pawn. Good shit.
I'm glad you mention FF1. Dragon's Dogma feels like the real successor to the NES FFs. The game play loop is actually very close to FF1. They made the magic archer a viable healer in DD2 also, so you don't have to have a mage if you're playing the Magic Archer. The magic archer heal is faster but only targets on character, but it's easier to pull off than the mage's heal in battle. I think Mage and Magic Archer both will feel redundant. Remember pawns can't use advanced classes so three party members have to come from Fighter/Mage/Thief/Archer. The ideal pretty much just replaces one of those with your advanced class.
the heal arrow from magic archer can be charged to become an aoe and full team revive (if they are downed)... so magic archer can heal single target or charge the shot for aoe heal and revive.
Actually, Thief are very strong. They have good physical damage to small enemies, and can climb big monster better than other vocation to attack weak points directly, like head or wings. Maybe he just forgot 😅
Thanks for this video. If I can suggest, I’d love for you to discuss the Pawn Inclinations in DD2 as compared to DD1. I know we have limited info now but any insights you may have would be greatly appreciated.
The best party composition that works for me is the balanced type, never get more than 2 on the same range because they can disturb each other in combat: Main Character - (always tanker no matter the vocation, monsters tend to go on you so you take advantage of that); 1 Mage (Main Pawn) - its easier to adjust the main pawn to heal you than trying to find the perfect one on the rift; 1 Ranged DPS 1 Melee DPS
1:10 i really need to know what armor you are using on your tank/fighter. it looks similar to the "Guardian Armor" set except it has two pauldrons, the thing is the Guardian Armor will also have two pauldrons if you _dont_ equip a shield, except you have a shield. I'm so confused. Please answer this is a mystery ive been trying to solve for a while now please.
I was thinking about something like this: 1. Fighter into warrior later (Arisen) 2. Mage (Main pawn) 3. Archer 4.Thief/sorcerer or maybe fighter to tank once I'm warrior, but probably sorcerer.
I love going double sorcerer set ups. Usually Fighter , Mage/Archer, Sorcerers (me and a pawn). I just switch out depending on if I’m doing a big boss fight (archer with consumables) or going through a dungeon/traveling far (mage to conserve curatives and use affinities to diversify damage)
if you have a team full of sorcs a mage might not even be necessary... because sorcs have a lifesteal spell this time that steals hp and heals themselves so youd only need a way to heal your tank.
I kinda wanna Role play as one of my favorite Magic the Gathering card: "Halana and Alena, Partners". So i am planning on going Archers as main and also also Archer as Main Pawn, can this work at all? As far as the footage has shown, the archer is quite mobile in disengage so i guess we have to kite everything, which seems pretty funny. Maybe i am going Archer + Thief instead if double Archer turns out awefull
@@prince_warhero oh maybe your wifi signal is bad, I haven't seen or heard of choppy videos. I just watched some videos to confirm. I would check your connection and try again. I was even on the fence of getting it on console even with my good PC. If you find videos of bad gameplay I would love if you told me so I could see it, maybe steer people away from certain platforms. Thanks!
One of my favorite team comps in dd:da is 2 strider/thief and 2 sorcerers. It was an all out damage group and everything would melt in BBI. In dd2 I'll probably have 2 sorcerers, a thief and an archer.
@mooberrypie2637 I carried curatives with me. My pawn has always been a big sorcerer lad who carries my heals. So I just give him my stuff while I kill stuff. I'd carry the necessities like panacea for curing stonework and such but I'd make sure each pawn as well as me has one on us in case we face a cockatrice.
@@Sleepin-N-Snoozn im trying DD1 now for the first time. I think I'm liking the way Fighter plays, maybe Warrior but im not sure. But it sounds like you can bring 3 DPS with you that have a mix of utility and be alright?
@mooberrypie2637 Yea, you can bring basically whatever team comp you want as long as you can deal with physical and magic enemies. By that I mean if you want a full physical group, bring a holy weapon or some such to be able to do dmg to certain physical immune enemies and vice versa.
I am going to play Archer but I am kind of torn over whether I want to have a fighter or mage for my main pawn. I am leaning more toward fighter but I guess I can always just hire a mage pawn for healing
I am 100% sure I want to play as mystic spearhand with my Arisen. I am wondering which initial class would be more beneficial for me and which class should I assigned my main pawn. Mage so it can heal and support or some sort of tank? Regardless of the class should I make my pawn super tall so it can carry more stuff? I am new to the franchise so any feedback is well received. Thanks!
I'd say make your character however you want 1st playthrough, then try different ones on each ng+ cuz ng+ is infinite in DD. I'm gonna try 4 sorcerers cuz I wanna know if the casting speed up is boosted by more or not.
If you go Mystic Spearhand, what would be the best pawn class by your side? I know you have 3 party slots to fill in the gaps/weaknesses of the Mystic Spearhand, but considering ONLY your pawn levels up with you constantly - what's the ideal class to support you?
If you're going melee then maybe a fighter to help you tank the front lines and the other 2 maybe an archer/magic archer and a mage to support or sorcerer for more dmg.
Me: Mystic Archer. Main Pawn: Mage who might become a sorcerer if I feel that I can handle the healing with consumables like I did in DD1 (and if I can fit in the healing arrow thing MA have and if its good enough).
Never played Dragons Dogma but it seems having a sorcerer in the party is very risky. 1. Thief until Mystic Spearhand 2.Mage (Main Pawn) 3. Archer Pawn 4. Fighter pawn I wanted my finally party to be 1. Mystic Spear hand (Arisen) 2. Mage ( Main Pawn) 3. Fighter or Warrior pawn 4. Sorcerer pawn Any advice would be welcomed I'm new to this game.
I’ve been wondering about something, concerning the Warfarer vocation… so, in DD1, we are weighed down by all of the items in our inventory; including weapons, and having 3 different classes would mean that we’d need to carry weapons/gear/armor for each vocation. Wouldn’t that be too much weight to carry anything else?
Should always have a mage (either yourself or your main pawn) until you can transfer the anodyne (might've soelt it wrong) skill to other vocations that way you always have a healing spell to pop never hurts to have a emergency heal in any situation
@@Victoribarbo1 you could do that I'm just saying it be better to level a mage on your arisen or pawn til you get anodyne mastered doesn't take long and you can freely transfer it over to other vocations that way you could just hire a sorcerer instead
you can't transfer skills to other classes, only augments. Also anodyne is a core skill now so all mages will have it. personally I liked making my main pawn a Mage because that meant I could choose which weapon enchantment they give me
If mechanics don't change from DD1, then having pawns below your level is actually ideal as you'll get +xp buffs depending on how far below your level they are. I highly recommend if you aren't having difficulty in combat as it is a massive boost up to an extra 50%xp earned.
Thief Arisen DPS with Fighter Pawn to tank. Will hire a Mage for support, at least early on. Will likely play around with various other vocations as second DPS. Can't wait!
One is was called mendicant , use that if you want the to heal a lot. There’s an inclination for tactical plays which causes the mages to use support abilities more not necessarily heal. Archer I would give challenger or Scather inclination. Have them either focus on trash mobs and flyers or on big enemies
Mage: the support focused one, archer the damage or if you don't have a tank maybe the survival focused one But if I remember DD1 correctly, you can change it after the game starts. So hopefully DD2 has this, in which case I'd actually choose the voice you like best at character creation (inclination decides voice actor options) You're going to hear your main pawn A LOT, so make sure you like their voice. And also, changing their inclination may change their voice after creation too, in which case it doesn't matter
For mage, you’d want something that has them stay away from enemies, heal party members. For something like an archer, depends how you build them, but I’d probably suggest something that has them focus on the biggest enemy.
As someone who hasn't played the first game, I heard about Sorcerer Spell Syncing so I have been wondering how many Sorcerers is too many? My planned party is: Thief to Spearhead/Mage/Sorcerer/Sorcerer or should I do: Thief to Spearhead/Mage/Sorcerer/Warrior Can Mage and Sorcerer do Spell Syncing?
Maybe it will be different in this game, but in original, you can only spell sync the most powerful spell of the Sorcerer Vocations, which were only 5, one for each element. I hope they extend the amount of spell you can sync, but don't expect to have spell syncing between a Mage and a Sorcerer
Lol. He never said that. In fact he said the complete opposite. He said DPS characters are the most popular classes. Thieves are awesome in this game. Quick, nimble, able to climb all over the enemies easily. I'll be maining a Thief. My main pawn will be a mage for healing, the 2 supports pawns will probably be Archer and Fighter.
striders were the strongest class in DD1. I imagine thief will be very strong, if for no other reason that because climbing and targeting weak spots tends to be very strong
Also, players need to do quests and explore zones. This way you pawn will get experience, and people will pick your Pawn more often. Means you will get RC crystals for that, and sometimes gifts from players. Bestiary need to fill too. The more you kill monster with different ways, the smarter your PAWN BECOME. Try different ways to kill it, all elements, all monster parts\limbs if it is big, maybe there is hidden way to kill it. I think Developers did not changed these mechanics. Also, Dragonforge. :) Read from Dragon's Dogma wiki.
Problem with Archer pawn in DD is they don't help you solve puzzle (hit totem/ something high up) and you have no way to command them to do so. The golem fight in the misty area....
Is Warrior (me) and Fighter (Pawn) a good duo? They tank/aggro while I go for big damage. Thinking about doing a Berserk-themed Guts and Casca playthrough for fun, but if it’s not a good strategy please warn me now 😅
I’m new to Dragons Dogma but I’m planning on going: Warrior (Arisen) Archer (main pawn) Mage (healing) Sorcerer (AoE) I reckon I’ll swap it around a bit once I know the game though.
I am probably doing the same party. I want to try out Sorcerer, but sounds like Mage is practically mandatory. And as a magic user I want a tank. Wasn't sure if I should go Thief or Archer for awhile, but the flying enemy issue and slower casting speed of magic users makes me lean towards Archer.
I like being a mage/sorcerer and my main pawn a durable heavy hitter with hires to fill gaps. But I’m tempted to change the plan so I can run double a double sorcerer to try and go for the spell double cast. Not sure how easy it’ll be to find later game sorcerer pawns with the spells I’ll like
I have a few questions regarding pawns: 1. Can you have direct control over your pawns, like for example, FF7R? 2. You mentioned the pawns you hire, come with the skills and gear that the previous player equipped them with. Can you change that once you hire them? Can you find better gear for them and equip them yourself? 3. Your "main" pawn, that you create yourself...can you swap him out, so that you have 3 "other-player-made" pawns? 4. Since you will be hiring at least 2 additional player-made pawns that will be geared and skilled previously....will this make playing on day one a more "raw" experience (which I prefer)? To explain...I would rather not jump into the game say, 1 month from now, and the only pawns I have available to hire are mid-high "leveled" of "geared".
1. no, just commands: Go, Come, Help me. They are smarter than AI companions in any other game and you can customize their behavior. 2. you have full control over hired pawn's inventory but can't take items they came with. Can't change their skills. 3. no 4. hiring pawns above your level costs special currency, it's meant to be a limited boost. playing DD1 right now there's no shortage of pawns at every level even when I filter for specific skills. You're browsing the millions of pawns that have ever been created
1. You can give orders, like attack, or retreat, but pawns are totally AI driven 2. You can't change any skill other pawns have, besides yours. You can change their weapons and armor, but it will consider as a "gift" and you can't recover that piece of equipment 3. No, you can only hire two pawns besides your main. Also, you MUST need your main pawn in your party if you want to hire other people's pawns. 4. There will be some pawns provided by developers, so you always will find some pawn besides your level
Two things worth mentioning: a group of mages/Sorcerers casting the same spell will cast them faster. And secondly you can rent your friend's pawn for way cheaper than other peoples.
My Arisen: Either Fighter, Warrior or Magick Warrior. Main Pawn: I wanted to have a Magick Archer but since that's not possible, Archer. Other two Pawns: Mage and... still thinking about the other.
but I can't have a Sorcerer and a Magic Archer or a Trickster in the same party right ? Since those classes are for the Arisen alone... That's a shame, I want a full magical party :(
Magick Archer, Mystic Spearhand, Trickster and Warfarer are the Arisen only vocation, so you can still make your pawn a Sorcerer or hire other pawns with this vocation.
@@wmidlerIts based on the system of the first game, where pawns were only allowed to take base vocations (fighter/mage/strider) and the advanced vocations of these (warrior/sorcerer/ranger) while the mixed vocations (mystic knight/magick archer/assassin) were only available for the Arisen. Somehow they kept this limitation even though these vocations are no longer "advanced" or "mixed" versions as each vocation now has a unique main weapon.
Love the videos Fextra, but I have two questions… 1.) You mention switching classes. Is there a cost to that? Like Elden Ring you could rebirth. 2.) Can you change the appearance/name of your character AND your main pawn at any time? Or is it some expensive metamorphosis scroll? I love Elden Ring how you can change everything at any given time. I have a lore background for each role, so it would really help me if I could change my character and pawn name/appearance at will.
1. You can change vocations any time you want. It cost some vocation points, but is a small amount, and after unlocked, you don't need to pay those points again. 2. There is a metamorphosis scroll that are given for people who bought the deluxe version of the game, but I'm sure you can buy that scroll in game, but it will expensive
its the exact opposite of Elden Ring haha. 1) it costs a little bit (like 1/10 the cost of a max level skill) to unlock the class the first time. then it's free to switch whenever you want 2) there is 1 metamorphosis item per run. At barber shop you can only change hair, skin, voice, makeup
@@wmidler thanks really good to know! Sounds like you really need to plan accordingly then as you are more fixed. I wish they had at least two save slots.
from a leak gameplay I heard from the metamorphosis scroll will cost around 500 rift crystals. Though take this with a grain of salt till the game is out, but this sounds very likely to me
All that players need to know is to have a varied vocation Party. You need at least one melee class & one magic class & one bow class. And a Mage is essential cause they excel at healing. Follow this rule & you'll be fine and can adjust as you play on. The melee can tank...the mage provides heals & special damage (lightning, ice, fire, etc) and the bow class deals range. Its literally that simple, but the exact vocation is more nuanced.
Really thinking about playing wayfarer. I know you miss out on some aspects of the classes but being able to switch from tank to dps or ranged to melee sounds so nice
Best DD2 content out there 🔥💪🏻🙏 If I main Mystic Spearhand + mage as my main pawn, is the best complement to that [archer + sorc] or [archer + fighter] or [fighter + sorc]?
I was gonna go for a sorccerer and a fighter as my main pawn. I wasnt sure if i should get an archer or a thief as second melee so this helped me a bit^^
Magic Archer (Arisen) Mage or Sorceress (main pawn) Fighter (Tank) Pure DPS Still deciding how much support I need with a magic archer. Any experience yet?
If it is like the first one, you can hire new pawns in the riffstones, for pawns of higher level than you they cost riffcrystals while the ones on your level or lower are free
@@Badchocobo Just remember to switch pawns after level up. I lost count of the times i found myself in a high level area with pawns three or four levels below. Only the main pawn level up like you.
Definitely want going to try to main thief(mystic spearhand), main pawn will be fighter/warrior and i will have dual mages/sorcerers as often as possible. Substitute an archer in if need be
@@SolidSnake240 I never played the first one. But as much isekai and d&d content I've consumed has taught me speed and destruction is my favorite way to play rpgs lol
@ImTheChef not a bad set up. I'm using DD2 to scratch the elden ring itch where my first and second play through was heavily Mage based so I'm trying to challenge myself and have a more kinetic character.
@@j1lyrical yeah absolutely, my elden ring play through was bleed katana, I’ve always gravitated towards fast agile high risk vs reward builds/classes. I never played dd1 either so curious to see how it all goes!
I’m thinking Arisen- magick archer ( with a more supportive/ jack of all trades build with the healing arrow and sleep arrow and other damage arrows) Main pawn- warrior Pawn- thief (maybe fighter or another sorcerer but not sure) Pawn - sorcerer
Im planning to be a Sorcerer with a Warrior main pawn. Planning to have a Fighter and a Mage as my usual hires unless i need to mix it up for some reason.
I personally am probably gonna play sorcerer, starting as a mage. gonna have my main pawn be a fighter and i'll later add a second mage so they can be the main healer and an archer. Gonna make my fighter pawn lean waaaaaay into a brash "FIGHT ME" personality as much as I can. He probably won't end up popular enough to trigger it, but if this works out right it would be very in character for him to be corrupted by that dark force they were talking about when talking about what happens when your pawn is sent to too many people. After my first run of the game though, i'm definitely doing an all mage run for funsies
I thought from your "Beware..." video that maxing out your team carry weight was essential, which made it sound like you needed 4 max stamina characters just to get to the quest sites before they expired. Which sounds like you need 4 fighters or else you'll be too slow if you try to pick up anything. Is that the case? Or was the "Beware" video exaggerated?
You forgot to mention having a mage also benefits in curing debuffs (Halidom) like poison, slow, blind etc. and can help with taking down enemies with specific elemental weaknesses by enchnanting your weapons (Boon). EDIT: Just realised, you've mentioned weapon enchantments in text.
I have a question :D ... it is told, that ur main character levels with earned xp .....but ur pawns dont level.... so .... how can i borrow a pawn , that is not level 1 ? ...that would be impossible , if each player make a level 1 pawn, and they never level up ...how is it working ?
Your pawn levels with you. Your hired pawns level with their player So if the person who owns the pawns you hired stops playing or you stop being online to synchronize you won’t see them level up
Need to explain to people what ideal character growth is. Balance Health\Stamina stats. I bet the majority of players forget that Stamina is needed for using skills. Some skills use a lot of stamina per skill. Mages are important. In theory - You play yourself as Mage and act as strategist for your team = slow gameplay; You play DPS role and ask mage to buff you before the fight = fast gameplay. It possible to fuck up the character growth for some people who cares about small things. Because no respect is possible in the game.
Im picking mage for my arisen and heading towards sorcerer. My pawn is also a mage she will focus mainly on healing and the other 2 i choose will probably be a warrior and an archer hopefully covering most of the angles damage types ,,,
Does anyone know if the original Dogma was playable with only you and primary Pawn? Looking at possible self imposed rules to increase difficulty IF it leans on the easy side
I'm not sure what class I'll be choosing for my Arisen since most look pretty fun but I think I'll make my main pawn an archer. Since most people seem to be making mage pawns there will be plenty to choose from in the Rift!
- Me: Mystic Spearhand - Mage (Heals and Buffs) -Fighter (Tank and Someone to follow me to the enemies back) - Pawn: Sorcerer, I know an archer (physical dps would be better) but... to hell with it, I want "big cinematic spells"
Im hell bent on being a thief but unsure what to pair with it my created pawn. A heavy fighter seems great for tank and i can use their carry capacity but you made some good points for the mage.
If you have group of pawns that you like if you rest in a inn or tavern they will update to the current pawn actual lvl so you won’t have to switch every time you level up just keep that in mind.
This is good to know. Thanks!
Can you add skills to your hire pawns ?
Awesome!! Thanks
Seriously? That's a huge game changer!
Oh wow that is great to hear, I was really saddened to hear I have to swap out...
I've never played the OG Dragons Dogma so I'm hype to play this with the fanbase this week on the PS5
If it’s anything like the first then you’re absolutely in for a treat!
I'm so excited too!
The first one always had surprises when hoping into new game+ so this one should be an absolute gem on extra playthroughs
Same here
You might have it heard it already a thousand times from others: not a game for everyone, but an amazing no less
If you’re exploring and find a riftstone, use it as an opportunity to swap pawn quests you’ve completed, and load your recruited pawns with heavy resources and gear before dismissing them. It all gets transferred to storage so you can keep exploring and conserve those ferrystones.
Fighter- Tank and DPS
Thief- Speedy Combo DPS
Archer- Range Support/Flier Nuker
Mage- Healer and Magic User
Personally for me I'm going to do an all around of one of each base class for starters. Early game might be tough for some so having all your areas covered is probably best with this set up. If damage resistances work they did in DD1, a good note for party composition is to make sure you can do some magic damage and some physical damage since some enemies will be highly resistant or invulnerable to one damage type. Covering different elements is also nice but less necessary
I havent been excited for a game that i know would deliver since elden ring. Love the videos✊🏾
Same exact feeling bro and I never played the first one I juss kinda got into these kinda games and they just grew onto me
I'm going to build towards this;
1. Warfarer (Arisen)
2. Warrior / Fighter (main pawn)
3. Archer
4. Mage
Edit: Mage not sorcerer lol
solid all round
That's also how I'm planning my party setup. For my Warfare I'll definitely have Mystic Spear Hand because it looks awesome. The other 2 vocations will probably be a mage and sorcerer for healing, buffing, spell syncing, and AOE damage.
Same
No healing !
Sorcerer can't be a pawn
Hell yes 🙌! The week has finally come!
this will be my first Dragons Dogma game, had no clue about it until the hype spread to my UA-cam feed and well timed as I've been looking for a single player game to dump hours into after playing online multiplayer to the point it's not as fun anymore, super excited for this as a dark souls enjoyer.
4 sorc gonna be crazy
My main thief then mystic spearhand. Main pawn archer ! First pawn mage, 4th maybe fighter! I think it's good to have to close up, two range options
I'll prolly be a mage first, but thief and archer look fun as well. I wanna eventually get warfarer and run sorc, spear, and trickster with 3 sorc pawns. Imagine the cast time with 4 sorcs!
This is what I was thinking I know I want to go mystic spearhand so maybe start with thief or mage. Then main pawn mage/archer. Can’t wait to dive in
Gonna do the same
When I see you upload a video, I click, watch and Like. It’s that simple!
Gonna make my main pawn a mage for sure and probably gonna start as a mage as well but changing to sorcerer or mystic spearhand asap
When Itsuno was asked about the best party setup he said: "They're masterworks all, you can't go wrong."
Akakkaajakkakaan
She's the "dagger storm", wild, untamed, and he is the wisdom, her "place of quiet" and trainer for magic (yeah I got a whole narrative in my mind, so ... shush).

Babe wake up, new fextralife video dropped.
Good Allround info. Nice quality video as usual!
The video is well edited and scripted. Thank you.
Brother it’s “Warfarer”
I was hoping to play as Moana
Wafer? 😂
Mystic Spearhand (main) + Mage (Pawn). Other pawns = best options I have available at the moment or whatever is needed to progress the story.
Agree! But I’d like to see the Sorcerer pump out some awesome spells 😎
Watched the video, listened to the advice, decided to go Thief with main pawn Archer 😂
My first party will be Mystic Spear, Mage(MainPawn), Ranger(Hired), Fighter(Hired)
Second will be Warfarer, Sorcerer(MP), Sorcerer(Hired) Mage(Hired)
Third will be Trickster, Thief(MP), Warrior(Hired) and Mage(Hired)
I changed my mind about the 2nd team.
I got one I made and
One the game gave me.
Pawns can use advanced classes but not hybrid classes. So they can still be sorcerer and warrior in addition.
the heal arrow from magic archer can be charged to become an aoe and full team revive (if they are downed)... so magic archer can heal single target or charge the shot for aoe heal and revive.
i can imagine trickster + 3 sorceress will be totally OP, i remember when in DD1 i killed Grigori with just 2 tornados
Until you have to fight something like a golem they are immune to magic
@@lossfusionyeah, i had to use Exequy after very long cast time
@@lossfusionSome spells do physical damage alongside their magic damage so it’s not impossible, but it is very suboptimal to be sure in such a case
@@mduckernz it takes way to long
@@Yano83 yea I tried that once it took me a couple liquid vims to end it never again and the metal golem is even worse
wondering why the thief wasn't really mentioned.... are they not that effective or are their downsides greater than their up?
Actually, Thief are very strong. They have good physical damage to small enemies, and can climb big monster better than other vocation to attack weak points directly, like head or wings.
Maybe he just forgot 😅
Love your videos man! And excited for the DD2 content but you keep calling the warfarer the wayfarer 😂
Thanks for this video. If I can suggest, I’d love for you to discuss the Pawn Inclinations in DD2 as compared to DD1. I know we have limited info now but any insights you may have would be greatly appreciated.
I cannot wait until you put out a video on Warfarer, I wanna know exactly what all it get access to from the other classes
The best party composition that works for me is the balanced type, never get more than 2 on the same range because they can disturb each other in combat:
Main Character - (always tanker no matter the vocation, monsters tend to go on you so you take advantage of that);
1 Mage (Main Pawn) - its easier to adjust the main pawn to heal you than trying to find the perfect one on the rift;
1 Ranged DPS
1 Melee DPS
1:10 i really need to know what armor you are using on your tank/fighter. it looks similar to the "Guardian Armor" set except it has two pauldrons, the thing is the Guardian Armor will also have two pauldrons if you _dont_ equip a shield, except you have a shield. I'm so confused. Please answer this is a mystery ive been trying to solve for a while now please.
2:26 I love how the fighter has an animation executing the goblin
I was thinking about something like this:
1. Fighter into warrior later (Arisen)
2. Mage (Main pawn)
3. Archer
4.Thief/sorcerer or maybe fighter to tank once I'm warrior, but probably sorcerer.
Spell synch ftw
I kinda wanna Role play as one of my favorite Magic the Gathering card: "Halana and Alena, Partners". So i am planning on going Archers as main and also also Archer as Main Pawn, can this work at all?
As far as the footage has shown, the archer is quite mobile in disengage so i guess we have to kite everything, which seems pretty funny. Maybe i am going Archer + Thief instead if double Archer turns out awefull
Double archer is more than doable. Just have a mage to do heals and a sorcerer. The sorcerer you could replace with a tank of some kind
Dude Capcom has yet again another gem 💎 with this one ❤️🎮
we cant say until the reviews come out, game looks like its gonna have lot of technical problems
@@prince_warheroI'm curious why you think that? There haven't been any videos showing glitches right?
I Hope so, but to say this before you know (and propably preorder it) is why we cant have nice things anymore. Yes. You are guilty.
@@c1pherx no glitches but console gameplay looks very choppy
@@prince_warhero oh maybe your wifi signal is bad, I haven't seen or heard of choppy videos. I just watched some videos to confirm. I would check your connection and try again. One of my favorite team comps in dd:da is 2 strider/thief and 2 sorcerers. It was an all out damage group and everything would melt in BBI. In dd2 I'll probably have 2 sorcerers, a thief and an archer.
How did you handle healing?
@@Sleepin-N-Snoozn can you use curatives on pawns?
If you're going melee then maybe a fighter to help you tank the front lines and the other 2 maybe an archer/magic archer and a mage to support or sorcerer for more dmg.
my ideal party is 2 sorcerers, a mage, and a trickster. this is just from what I've seen of the game and how the sorcerers have flashy spells.
1. Thief until Mystic Spearhand
2.Mage (Main Pawn)
3. Archer Pawn
4. Fighter pawn
I wanted my finally party to be
1. Mystic Spear hand (Arisen)
2. Mage ( Main Pawn)
3. Fighter or Warrior pawn
4. Sorcerer pawn
Any advice would be welcomed I'm new to this game.
'Pawns don't level up' - super useful info. Implies upgrading their gear is likely a waste of resources. Thanks!
Quick addendum to that. The pawns you HIRE dont level up with you. Your main pawn will level with you.
@@DivineWolf Got it. Thanks
I was planning on just hiring a mage
@@Victoribarbo1 you could do that I'm just saying it be better to level a mage on your arisen or pawn til you get anodyne mastered doesn't take long and you can freely transfer it over to other vocations that way you could just hire a sorcerer instead
you can't transfer skills to other classes, only augments. Also anodyne is a core skill now so all mages will have it.
personally I liked making my main pawn a Mage because that meant I could choose which weapon enchantment they give me
@@wmidler oh damn well that sucks I thought it would be the same as in DA pretty sure anodyne was a augment in that one
@@jeankirchstein2552No. Anodyne was always a Mage exclusive Skill. Actually, that skill was the only reason you want to hire a Mage in your party 😅
Can't wait!
Any advice about the inclination? Whats the best inclination for archer and mage?
One is was called mendicant , use that if you want the to heal a lot. There’s an inclination for tactical plays which causes the mages to use support abilities more not necessarily heal. Archer I would give challenger or Scather inclination. Have them either focus on trash mobs and flyers or on big enemies
Mage: the support focused one, archer the damage or if you don't have a tank maybe the survival focused one
But if I remember DD1 correctly, you can change it after the game starts. So hopefully DD2 has this, in which case I'd actually choose the voice you like best at character creation (inclination decides voice actor options)
You're going to hear your main pawn A LOT, so make sure you like their voice. And also, changing their inclination may change their voice after creation too, in which case it doesn't matter
For mage, you’d want something that has them stay away from enemies, heal party members. For something like an archer, depends how you build them, but I’d probably suggest something that has them focus on the biggest enemy.
@@thatguyyouknow7804 ah then mage is kindhearted i guess for now, as for archer maybe calm or straightforward i guess...
Can you unlock Mystic Spearhand as Thief or you need to be Fighter/Mage?
Not sure what i'm playing maybe good old Fighter (arisen)+Mage (MP)
As someone who hasn't played the first game, I heard about Sorcerer Spell Syncing so I have been wondering how many Sorcerers is too many?
My planned party is: Thief to Spearhead/Mage/Sorcerer/Sorcerer or should I do: Thief to Spearhead/Mage/Sorcerer/Warrior
Can Mage and Sorcerer do Spell Syncing?
Maybe it will be different in this game, but in original, you can only spell sync the most powerful spell of the Sorcerer Vocations, which were only 5, one for each element.
I hope they extend the amount of spell you can sync, but don't expect to have spell syncing between a Mage and a Sorcerer
So are rogues not very good then? Was planning that as my main
Rogue doesn't feel very powerful in early game, but after some levels and better equipment, you will delete everything 😅
I'm going to try thief, hopefully ensnare makes a comeback and is better at targeting flying enemies.
striders were the strongest class in DD1.
Thinking about doing a Berserk-themed Guts and Casca playthrough for fun, but if it’s not a good strategy please warn me now 😅
I’m new to Dragons Dogma but I’m planning on going:
Warrior (Arisen)
Archer (main pawn)
Mage (healing)
Sorcerer (AoE)
I reckon I’ll swap it around a bit once I know the game though.
Not sure how easy it’ll be to find later game sorcerer pawns with the spells I’ll like
I have a few questions regarding pawns:
3. no
4. hiring pawns above your level costs special currency, it's meant to be a limited boost. playing DD1 right now there's no shortage of pawns at every level even when I filter for specific skills. You're browsing the millions of pawns that have ever been created
1. You can give orders, like attack, or retreat, but pawns are totally AI driven
2. You can't change any skill other pawns have, besides yours. You can change their weapons and armor, but it will consider as a "gift" and you can't recover that piece of equipment
I Think I'll run with
Spearhand (me) , Archer (Main Pawn), Mage and Warrior most of the times
Same as me, although I might swap the Mage to a Sorcerer depending on how healing is with consumables.
@iMaPoundmost likely Fighter until then
My Arisen: Either Fighter, Warrior or Magick Warrior. Main Pawn: I wanted to have a Magick Archer but since that's not possible, Archer. Other two Pawns: Mage and... still thinking about the other.
Is the min/maxing stats from 1 thing still present in 2?
Seems no now stats switch when you switch vocations
but I can't have a Sorcerer and a Magic Archer or a Trickster in the same party right ? Since those classes are for the Arisen alone...
That's a shame, I want a full magical party :(
Magick Archer, Mystic Spearhand, Trickster and Warfarer are the Arisen only vocation, so you can still make your pawn a Sorcerer or hire other pawns with this vocation.
it's kind of silly that pawns can't be MA. I get Warfarer and Trickster
Love the videos Fextra, but I have two questions…
1.) You mention switching classes.
1) it costs a little bit (like 1/10 the cost of a max level skill) to unlock the class the first time. then it's free to switch whenever you want
2) there is 1 metamorphosis item per run. At barber shop you can only change hair, skin, voice, makeup
@@wmidler thanks really good to know! Sounds like you really need to plan accordingly then as you are more fixed.
I wish they had at least two save slots.
@iMaPound thanks!!
from a leak gameplay I heard from the metamorphosis scroll will cost around 500 rift crystals.
Great vid! Who does the thumbnail art? The artist does great work.
Really thinking about playing wayfarer. I know you miss out on some aspects of the classes but being able to switch from tank to dps or ranged to melee sounds so nice
It’s WARfarer. Trips me up too.
I just watched a video of 4 big unarmed warrior boys taking down a griffin, chimera, and cyclops with their knees and fist. Thats new the team i want.
I'm wondering if a magic spearhand could be a viable tank with the right set up. That's what I'm going to aim for.
Same!

If I main Mystic Spearhand + mage as my main pawn, is the best complement to that [archer + sorc] or [archer + fighter] or [fighter + sorc]?
Hmm either sorc or archer + fighter. To have another front line with you and some ranged dmg.
I was gonna go for a sorccerer and a fighter as my main pawn. I wasnt sure if i should get an archer or a thief as second melee so this helped me a bit^^
Can pawns become other vocations such as the magick archer and the mystic spearhand or can they only locked to the 4 in the beginning?
Bout to build me a mage on this mug!

Magic Archer (Arisen)
Mage or Sorceress (main pawn)
Fighter (Tank)
Pure DPS
Still deciding how much support I need with a magic archer. Any experience yet?
So, how do you get strong/higher leveled pawns?
If it is like the first one, you can hire new pawns in the riffstones, for pawns of higher level than you they cost riffcrystals while the ones on your level or lower are free

Anyone have details on when we can play if we preordered
Midnight Eastern time on 3/22. I'm in the central, so will unlock at 11pm 3/21. At least on Xbox.
Im planning to be a Sorcerer with a Warrior main pawn. Planning to have a Fighter and a Mage as my usual hires unless i need to mix it up for some reason.
Just going for the standard set up 1 of each class to start..have all the bases covered...atleast for the first playthrough
If u play as a trickster and make enemies jump off hill ect what happened with the drops of those enemies?
You need at least one big pawn to be your mule, usually the tank. But besides that you can hire big sorcerer pawns and they’ll have carry weight too
You forgot to mention having a mage also benefits in curing debuffs (Halidom) like poison, slow, blind etc. and can help with taking down enemies with specific elemental weaknesses by enchnanting your weapons (Boon).
EDIT: Just realised, you've mentioned weapon enchantments in text.
My Arisen will be a Magick Archer and my main pawn a Mage. I haven't fully decided on the hired pawn vocations yet - probably Fighter and Sorcerer.
Your hired pawns level with their player
So if the person who owns the pawns you hired stops playing or you stop being online to synchronize you won’t see them level up
@@Fextralife Ah, that makes sense ...thx for ur answer :)
Could you change your main pawn during the game if you change up your entire party including your own?
Pawns are optional you can play alone most of the time
I'm not sure what class I'll be choosing for my Arisen since most look pretty fun but I think I'll make my main pawn an archer. Since most people seem to be making mage pawns there will be plenty to choose from in the Rift!
What are the limitations on the pawn vocations in DD2?
Pawns can only use the four base vocations plus sorc and warrior
- Me: Mystic Spearhand
- Mage (Heals and Buffs)
-Fighter (Tank and Someone to follow me to the enemies back)
- Pawn: Sorcerer, I know an archer (physical dps would be better) but... to hell with it, I want "big cinematic spells"
Im hell bent on being a thief but unsure what to pair with it my created pawn. A heavy fighter seems great for tank and i can use their carry capacity but you made some good points for the mage.
Can’t wait to play this still can’t decide what vocation to do though
