Excellent video on this unique and awesome regional jet, I've always been intrigued by the Bae 146. I had no idea their engines were originally designed and used on helicopters! Lots of great information, spotting and onboard footage. I wish I would have had the chance to fly on one of these cool jets back in the day when Jazz flew them in the early 2000's.

Very Nice video! I had the pleasure flying the 146 to Switzerland several years ago, with CrossAir (collaboration with SwissAir). I think they called it the jumbolino 😊 it was a very comfortable plane to fly with!

I scroledl through the comments expecting to see the word Jumbolino, but no one seems to have mentioned it’s nickname.!! Thanks for doing this, I really enjoyed it. And I know you did too because of our previous conversations about the 146, I remember about you being sick in hospital and hearing the plane going in and out. No doubt you remember me telling you about me seeing Prince Philip getting out of one good few years back now. Those qualities of being able to use short runways and the extra redundancy make them a perfect fit for VIPs, including the Royal Flight. I was wondering about its range and it’s flying ceiling and top speed and how that would compare to a modern business jet. Does it still compete ? Even after all this time? I just wanted to know in case I inherit a few million and need to make a decision 😄 It might not be as sleek and shiny, but the Bae146 has got so much character I really like it. Interesting vid, these planes are fighting fires in my town and I’d never seen them before, so it was cool to learn more about them! Usually don’t see jets with 4 engines aside from military planes, or 747 and A380.
Or 707s, DC8s, CV880s, CV990s... the 4 engine designs used to be much more common in the days when big enough engines for a twin configuration didn't exist.

The Avro RJ is a common sight around Northern California in the late summer. The ones we see are flying as converted fire attack aircraft, dropping retardant on wildfires. Interesting. I’ve flown in so many of these: the first time, I think, was Dan-Air to Belp. Joint worst flights were Air UK LGW-EDI, when the plane stank of vomit, and BA LGW-ZRH in a terrible six-abreast configuration. An interesting feature is the geared fan of the engine; a configuration that is gaining in popularity again. By the way, I much preferred this format to that of your Piaggio and Saab 2000 pieces: both excellent, but spoiled by the computer generated commentary.

The Avro RJ is a common sight around Northern California in the late summer. The ones we see are flying as converted fire attack aircraft, dropping retardant on wildfires. Here's a good image from a fire a few years ago:

Interesting. I’ve flown in so many of these: the first time, I think, was Dan-Air to Belp. Joint worst flights were Air UK LGW-EDI, when the plane stank of vomit, and BA LGW-ZRH in a terrible six-abreast configuration. An interesting feature is the geared fan of the engine; a configuration that is gaining in popularity again. By the way, I much preferred this format to that of your Piaggio and Saab 2000 pieces: both excellent, but spoiled by the computer generated commentary.

If they had re engined the airplane with 2 DC 9 or Rolls-Royce Spey Engines they could be still building them today for hauling freight/military transports for small non NATO air forces etc.
