    Your videos gave me confidence to fix my ps4 controller that had buttons that were so sticky, I couldn't use it. Now, it's all cleaned, put back together, and functional! Thanks and love the videos!

    Quick tip for cleaning adhesive residue and general cleaning where the utmost cleanliness is necessary: Instead of isopropyl, try using naphtha. It runs circles around alcohol when it comes to softening adhesive, and it leaves even less haze than alcohol for screen cleaning. The only drawback is it may be a little more expensive than alcohol. (Although it’s probably cheaper than that specialty grade 99.5% you got 😜)

      If you are going to backlight it, I personally recommend a kit from Hand Held Legend. Those kits usually work VERY well.
      Just throwing in my two cents.

      @@genesischris1297 Yeah thanks. Collin over at THISDOESNOTCOMPUTE used one of theirs and the white one came out absolutely great, even without bitverting. Looks just like you think a backlit black and white screen should. Plus, I've known about handheld legends site since its infancy in the custom moding community so I feel like I can trust their products.

    Awesome video and I am attempting this myself! Do you not need to add a reflector screen to the back of the GBP screen?

  • @metalurgiax
    @metalurgiax 6 років тому +9

    Why did you remove the polarizer film?

    • @genesischris1297
      @genesischris1297 6 років тому +8

      The back of the screen (the reflector) needs to be removed for the Gameboy Light's backlight to shine through. But, when you remove the reflector, it takes the polarizing film with it. Afterward, you just put a new back polarizer on, along with the backlight.

    • @sjm4306
      @sjm4306 6 років тому +3

      If you are careful it is possible to remove just the reflective layer and leave the rear polarizer, but it is quite a bit more difficult to do than just removing both rear layers.

  • @j-fourschutt3175

    I forgot to tell you last time, but the 3d printed battery cover, to smooth it out you need to heat it up so the fine lines melt into a smooth pattern, a hairdryer or otherwise a heatgun should work.

    I've seen videos explaining that the lines of dead pixels on older gameboy screens come from the ribbon cable beginning to detach from the screen, an can be fixed with a soldering iron

    • @mrsadrobot
      @mrsadrobot 6 років тому +3

      I fixed my gb using that method when it had a vertical lines problem. I'm not sure this is the same problem - but yes the reflowing fixed the vertical lines nicely!

    • @donovanknight9304
      @donovanknight9304 6 років тому +4

      The issue cannot be fixed by that if it's a horizontal line or a dead pixel. The reason verticals lines appear is the cheap adhesive they used for a component on the screen is starting to peel.

    • @WH250398
      @WH250398 6 років тому +1

      Only vertical lines can be fixed like that. Horizontal lines are pretty much impossible.

  • @ChrisMX9

    Can I use any polariser film? I have a GBP with front and rear polariser burn and the only replacements I seem to find are for backlighting, which I didn't really want to do. Another thing, would it be a bad idea to use a heat gun to try and release the adhesive from the polariser?

      no, it isnt supposed to be. i was suprised when he didnt even mention that the screen's light was so dim. it should be at least 10 times brighter than that. and i have taken video of my gameboy light before and it shows up loads brighter than it actually looks in real life, so if his screen looks that dim on camera then its gonna be pretty difficult to play that in the dark.
