Joe Montana is a football LEGEND! Always respected this man as one of the greatest to ever play the position of quarterback, even though he was playing when I was an infant I've seen his highlights, and what a player! Respect!!!!
Joe is my favorite all-time player. His plays made me fall in love with football. I will never forget The Catch. Once Joe was gone, I lost interest in football, until this year.
I've been watching but I haven't been this excited watching in such a long time. Watching him run the offense I believe every throw is going to be caught. It's crazy. And when they aren't I'm always like huh......what happened? There's always a reason if it misses. Not usually are you going to watch him just throw a weird ball.

@kamfisher1714... Brady played before the NFL started overly protecting these high paid QBs and the teams' considerable investment. But he still played for a significant part of his career in this "pampered" QB era
His lack of athleticism and the rule changes prolonged his career considerably and helped him get the opportunity to play in 10 SBs.
This is not a knock on Brady or today's QBs, I view Brady as the new GOAT and have immense respect for him. It's just a reminder football is WAY different now and should be considered when talking about legends like Joe and others from prior eras.

Brock Turdy had his one shot. As long as good I'm "28-3" is HC, SF is gonna be an also ran.
I like the way he doesn't have to compare Mahomes with other QB's. He is unique, just enjoy.

I’ve loved this man since I was 12 yrs old !! I had a T-shirt when I was 13 that said Nothing Finer than a Forty Niner on the front with a 16 on the back and Montana ! I literally asked for it for Xmas . I wanted it made at the T-shirt shop at the mall in the early 80’s that made iron on decaled shirts with lettering.🔥🤣My parents actually had it made for me . I wore that thing to bed every night☺️I watched every 9er game with my family . Great memories of happiness and cheers throughout the house‼️⭐️🤍

Had a poster of Lott on my wall, he was dressed up in a suit and hat and had on the coolest sunglasses (looked like a mafia gangster) and said something like "Minister of Defense." He cut off a piece of his finger to avoid missing playing time: badass!!!!
Correction, found the poster and it had "Designated Hitter" , so badass!
It also helps to have Jerry Rice. John Taylor, Roger Craig, Tom Rathman and Ronnie Lott.

This isn't singles tennis. Football is the ultimate team sport. Archie Manning is the perfect example: Pro Bowl QB in some horrible Saints teams.
Players should have a "no franchise" clause in their rookie contracts, and first round players should be able to void the 5th year option if a team can't win a playoff game in a player's first four years. Calvin Johnson and many others were forced to WASTE their careers on piss poor teams.

I had a 3rd round grade on Brock (still too low), and took him in the 5th round of my online mock. At the start of his junior season, many mock draft experts had Purdy projected between rounds 1-3.
When Joe played they really hit the QB and no flags flew.
Yeah, and he was facing defenses on steroids. Hell, LT who ended Montana's career in SF was smoking an ounce of crack a day. Lol Trust me, Joe has had more operations post-playing career than I'm sure he can remember.
But they all weighed what tight ends weigh now & were slower.

I told him that it still bothers me that the Giants too a cheap shot and knocked him out of the NFC championship late in the game in the 1991 January NFC final since they otherwise would have likely beat NY and then went to superbowl 25 and tgeeepeated. He nodded and smiled and said it still bothers him too. He was a fabulous player who regrets having retired from football when he did

Joe Montana obviously had all the rings in SF, but has that KC connection that joins the two teams. I have always admired his skills and his high IQ as a QB. Nice interview.
When Joe took over for Deberg, San Francisco went from a never will win city to when again will we win again. Now its Brocks era in the city
It’s funny, cause we had both DeBerg & Montana in KC as well. Steve was a tough guy & I really rooted for him & Joe got the Chiefs to an AFC Championship Game for the first time in 25 years. I’ll forever be a big fan of both those cats.
Yeah Deberg was the 1st to go to KC followed by Joe, Bono, Grbac and Alex Smith. As far as Deberg goes, the Niners were a pretty bad team overall when he was here and Bill Walsh just took over. Either way our teams have been connected for years. Good luck on Sunday
@@Steve-Z68 Bill Walsh really disliked Steve DeBerg as a quarterback. As color analyst for NBC calling games when DeBerg was QB in KC, Walsh would instinctively deride DeBerg even after successful plays. Walsh appeared to be offended/insulted that any team would allow DeBerg to be their starting QB
I was fortunate enough to see every single snap of Joe’s career at candlestick Park. I was there for the catch one week after my 18th birthday. I was at Super Bowl 19 at Stanford Stadium few weeks after my 21st birthday. Thank you dad I love you big guy.

NFL scouts overlooked that he started and competed for four years at a division one college. I would think that kind of experience would mean a lot.

A third round pick telling you that some people just have the psychological makeup that they don’t get anxious and nervous when most people do in the same situation. You can’t coach that, they either have it or they don’t. Montana had it, there are many stories about him being calm when everyone else was not.

I totally agree with Joe about watching the game from the end zone! We had season tickets to the Chiefs for many years (including when Joe was a Chief) 12th row south end zone right between the uprights; best seats in the house! You see the routes, the gaps, the game completely different from a 50 yard line side view. I don’t know why broadcasters always switch to the side just before the play starts? For years I shot video for our high school teams and every coach only wanted end zone views.
The most successful colleges ( those that produce successful NFL players ) are colleges that run pro style offenses . Its why so many QB's drafted in the first round fail. They come from some offense that would never succeed in the NFL.
Many of them play against inferior competition and look great (Trey Lance) but aren't really challenged. Purdy faced MANY teams (OU, Texas, OSU, etc.) that had better talent than his Iowa State team, yet he still found a way to win.
Brock Purdy actually turned down an offer from Alabama to go to Iowa State, because as he said, "I wanted to make a difference".
Brock is a stellar QB but one thing that always gets lost is... "is the QB a fit for the system?", and clearly Purds is a great fit. Jimmy G had great stats in SF as well, but he's also a "Brady-light" style QB where he's a statue who gets the ball out quick, and didn't make _too_ many mistakes. He did well in NE, but struggled in Oakland (he's also hurt, all the time, which doesn't help), and his postseason stats aren't anything to write home about.
QBs that would try to scramble around, extend something, and force a 30+ yard pass may not be super successful because its a system where you need to get the ball out in less than 4 seconds, every play. It benefits the quick decision makers / defense readers who are highly accurate in short throws.
I think you can plug in Mahomes, and a couple others, into nearly every system and they'd figure out how to be successful, but I'm not sure we can say that about Brock.... yet (I don't want to be harsh, its his 2nd year).
If you remember Jimmy's 2017 he could move around and make plays. Early 2018 he gets hurt, then becomes the statue. But that 2017 where he got the contract, he certainly looked like the guy.

It didn’t seem to affect Mahomes until this year. This year his receivers were dropping everything. During their losing streak even Travis Kelce struggled. Mahomes questioned whether to throw or not to throw. They still pulled it together by the playoffs though.

Whether or not you want to believe Brock’s MVP caliber moniker. You have to at least admit he is far better than the draft scouts though. You don’t have to put him on the Mahomes, Burrow, Allen level. But he’s obviously a really good QB who has played great earlier than the majority of QBs do
I’m a Chiefs fan and I’ll tell you what. Brock Purdy should have gotten the NFL-MVP player of the year award. Giving the MVP to Jackson didn’t make sense.

Brock Purdy missed 3 key throws; one for a sure touchdown, in the Super Bowl. He's young, so maybe he improves that flaw. Otherwise, he will be replaced just like Trey Lance and Jimmy G. Super Bowl winning QB's HAVE to make those throws. Jimmy G missed a sure touchdown throw to win the versus KC in the Super Bowl and he was replaced.

The scouts in the NFL actually do an amazing job. There are no exact measurables to determine who's going to make an NFL roster, but 80% of starters are drafted in the first four rounds.
About 60% of Super Bowl winning QB's in the last 30 years were drafted in the first round.
side note this is Joe Montana speaking people and he himself out of his own mouth said he puts mahomes in a category alone by himself!. He didn't say he put with Brady he didn't say he puts him with himself He let you know outright that he MAHOMES is the most talented quarterback he has ever seen! Since you brought it up, let's remember for the record Mahomes' mother is White. His father is Black. Last I checked, we're at least in theory supposed to be evaluating by content of character, not color of skin.

Montana is the GOAT, but Mahomes could pass him up. Patrick Mahomes is being held back by poor play calling and poor coaching. He's not running enough. Andy Reid is over-committed to the run and under-committed to letting Mahomes be Mahomes. Reid wants Mahomes to be a dedicated pocket passer. And that logic is hard to argue against, except we're talking about Patrick Mahomes, the best escape artist in the NFL. The Chiefs had a horrible year, finishing 10-7. The defense carried them through the playoffs and kept them in the Super Bowl. As good as Andy Reid is, he needs to be more flexible. He needs more razzle dazzle plays, bootlegs and options. Every defense in the NFL knows how to play Andy Reid. They know what play is coming next. That's because Reid is too predictable.
