    I started out with PawPaws recipe and every batch turned out ok to good. But I wanted a higher abv a stronger flavors. So I now watch you, DIY Fermentation, and CSB. I have dabbled with beer twice,(a bust)! Drinkable if you were already drunk. Anyway I just want to thank you for helping me grow. Here's an apple for the teacher 🍎😂

    Awesome video! I know so many people have been getting kits for gifts. These beginner tip videos are so important to have this time of year! Thanks for the community piece at the end. Cheers to 2024! Coffeemel is on my list too. It’s so easy for that style to go sideways.

    Funny story about wild fermenting. I bought some Mandarin orange slices that were packaged in pear juice for a fruit salad. I poured the juice into a couple drinking glasses, wrapped them in dark construction paper, covered them with cheese cloth and then set them out on my deck near our hibiscus plants that were in full bloom. left them out for a few hours until the temps dropped and I brought them in and placed them in the cupboard above the fridge. I then went out to our maple tree and cut off a small branch that I then used to stir the juice each day. it started fermenting and I continued this for a week. Then I put the brew in a couple 20oz bottles with the cap on to finish fermenting. It also developed a strong sulfur odor. After some googling I decided to clean and sanitize a few old pennies and drop them in the brew. after about a week the smell was gone. Eventually I decided to bottle condition for some carbonation and in the end I had about 20oz of fizzy pear cider at about 7% ABV. In the end it actually turned out really well.

    Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! I'm about a year into brewing and I think the main thing that I've learned is patience. A few brews went a bit sideways and many bottles have had a nice thick sediment cake sitting on the bottom all because I was just too impatient to move on to the next step of the process!!
    My brewyears resolution is to really nail down a top notch semi sweet traditional. Simple but effective.

    • @DointheMost
      @DointheMost  6 місяців тому +1

      My solution to the patience problem was to brew way too much. Then there’s always something to tinker with haha 😂

    I only started making mead back in May, so I'm still taking all of these beginner's tips to heart! I really slowly eased into it, buying just what I needed to make 1gal at a time every month or two. But I'd like to pick up the pace a little in 2024. I'll still stick to 1gal, as it's just me drinking it in our house, but I'll buy a couple more carboys so that I can start on new flavour adventures more often.

    Nice, thanks I really this channel. I just started making mead last year, I had been brewing beer in craft brewery in México and took the hobby not know dry 17% abv dry mead was hard when I made it.. Made a few batches around there, and they've come out pretty good. But taken a long time to age (gave me time to rethink my approach).. I just started going sweet on my meads, I got an Pulque wild yeast date mead fermenting rn. Hope everyones year goes great.

    Nice video. It found it helpful to start with brewing something I really like and fits my style. I my case it´s a ginger beer with molasses I was really interested in. It´s basically mix and leave alone. Some watching of the activity with rising bubbles and the airlock is Ok other than that hands off is fine. Following a recipe and changing the sugar/molasses ratio lead to success from batch one. It´s meant to be consumed green, so there is not too much patience required for a first taste.
    There are always activities that are less fun. Just think about enjoying the product to push through bottling day.

    • @DointheMost
      @DointheMost  6 місяців тому

      Love this. Ginger, beer is a fantastic way to start, and pretty low investment, too!

    • @maxlutz3674
      @maxlutz3674 6 місяців тому

      @@DointheMost The investment was a little higher than for the usual ginger bug recipe as I used a 18th century recipe (actual wine yeast and good molasses). It just was a "I saw it and I wanted to try" thing. Next batch is about to be bottled next sunday.

    I'm moving into my own house with my sister this year, and the space I'll have isn't perfect for brewing and will take some work to get it there... but if I can I'd like to try making some Botchet meads, make a batch with foraged ingredients, and possibly try making Sake in the winter (even though it seems like a lot of work, that work IS spread out over a longer period than a usual brew-day.)

    • @DointheMost
      @DointheMost  6 місяців тому

      Love all of these. I’ve only ever done one test batch of sake, but I’d like to get into it again. I have some ideas for expediting the process that might end up being total sacrilege, but I want to try anyhow ha ha.

    Totally agree on bad info out there. Watch out for outdated forum info. Many myths have been disproven in the last y years by tubers like this. For beer specifically, the brulosophy podcast is great, but I'm not a Mead maker so look for resources that test out the old ways.. I am amazed how some old things test true while others are blown out of the water. I promise to try a Mead soon.. with a local honey. That's my goal.

    I have a question about sanitising. I have sanitised everything well beforehand. During the process, I did rinse my gallon and airlock a few times with a regular towel, the airlock contains plain water from the tap and once I used a pipette that I forgot to sanitise for a moment... Could this cause a problem? Or is this normally not too bad?

      @@DointheMost I have to probably order to my sister when she moves to barcelona. Amazing honeys in States. You should do something with acacia honey, it's available in europe a lot. I've heard it's the mildest tasting honey, so it would probably be good in a sparkling mead.
