My Homemade Barrel Stove

- This homemade barrel stove kit can be easily transferred to a new barrel as needed. The door on this barrel stove was taken from an old cast iron stove that had cracked. I simply made a frame for the cast iron door taking into account the curved surface of the barrel. There are cast iron kits available but I decided that a homemade barrel stove kit was what I wanted to make.

I'm really impressed with this small but powerful 5 Kw Diesel Air heater for the smaller workshop / camper van. Amazon UK amzn.to/2K9DUIZ .. Amazon USA amzn.to/2RFRfg8 I recently did a review on the heater on my channel ua-cam.com/video/NN5l3LxCqVo/v-deo.html
Check them out here Cheers Gerry😀👍👍
Great workmanship, thank you for the video
Been welding & fabbing for years now, never thought of using box steel in a vise to bend contours in metal! Will definitely be using that trick from now on
Late to the party, but now that it's getting cold again in our hemisphere again, many more design ideas here that I'm likely to copy. 😉
Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry 👍
I think this is the one I've been waiting for. Thank you. Its going to b good .
Hi MrSprintcat. There will be some more detail on this stove on the first lighting which is happening today. Hope this helps Cheers Gerry👍
Hi again Gerry, you make it look so easy, which I suppose it is for someone with similar skills to yours and being equipped like you are too. You made another very interesting and entertaining video showing all of us how we should be able to do it too.
To bad we can't move back in time, as if I could go back 50 years, I could have picked up your example and started producing them to resell with a small profit. All I can do now is sit and wait until the threat of this terrible virus has gone, and watch your videos. Atb, Peter.
Hi Peter. Sorry for the 7 month delay in responding to your comment. hope you are well and have avoided covid. When the channel is busy I get lots of comments and miss loads. What part of the world are you in Peter. Appreciate you commenting Cheers Gerrry👍👍
Hey man! Just want to say thank you for sharing your ideas. I started building a waste oil stove yesterday and you my friend are the inspiration...thank you again and Happy building!
Thanks Clint for the kind words. These stoves are easy to build with whatever is lying aroung with just a little imagination. The flue is very important. 6 inch diameter and as long as you can get it works great. My own is 14 feet long x 6 inch diameter and works great on fan assisted or normally aspirated really well. Best of luck with the build. Cheers Gerry👍
GoOd job geery thinks for your explins🖒
Thanks for commenting Dr. 👍👍
Really looks good. I guess the video before this one fits somewhere towards the end of this video. It all adds up to a great looking stove. Can’t wait to see it operating. Thanks Gerry.
Hi Dan. I had computer issues and this one was to be first but took some time to recover most of the files. I fired it up today so there will be a video on that very soon. thanks for commenting Dan Cheers Gerry👍👍
That’s a bloody awesome job Gerry !!
Hi Chris. I just lit it tonight and it's working well. Another video on the way. Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry👍👍
GerrysDiy that’s great Gerry looking forward to seeing the next vid I’ve subscribed so I should see it! Great job and keep the projects coming
Chris Cain Thanks for subscribing and the comments. Much appreciated!
Cheers, Gerry👍
Great video, love how you make it look so easy and give lots of information. Really liking the modular idea for when the barrel has burnt out...nice looking piece of kit!
Thanks. I wanted this one to be vertical and the cost of the materials was only about €20 as I had some of the materials already. Had this stove pumping out the heat and very controllable. More projects soon Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry👍
@@GerrysDiy Looking forward to them, really enjoy your projects. I didn't get a notification for this one - still, doing a bit of catching up now🔥
Love your stove Gerry !
Hi Gerry. Hope you're doing well. I don't know how things are in Ireland but here in the states it's like living in the twilight zone. Businesses are shutting down or already shut down. Stay safe and I hope you've made preperations for the long haul.
Hi Marcel. Same here with the businesses. We are shut down and to stay indoors except for essential workers. In my case the shed is beside the house so I can at least make a few things until I run out of supplies. Thanks for commenting Marcel Cheers Gerry👍👍
Nice video
Thanks for the comment Lance, Cheers Gerry 👍
top job Gerry love it
Hi Hoodie. We're on a stay at home order but the shed is just at the side of the house so very handy as anti boredom therapy😜 More videos soon. Thanks hoodie for commenting Cheers Gerry👍👍
its mental Gerry its turning into cold war Germany , it will be ID cards next
At least you have the NHS Hoodie, - imagine living in India or Africa 😧
Thanks for the support and comments, Cheers Gerry
Looks like a mini submarine maybe a future project Gerry 👌
You'd never know, anything could happen!! Thanks for commenting. Cheers, Gerry 👍
Out of curiosity. I'm building a waste oil stove now, watching lots of your videos (which are really informative, thanks for all your hard work) and recall in your original design you used a propane tank for the burn chamber and not a barrel, due to tank steel gauge and longevity. In another video you showed that propane tank glowing red hot.
Was the propane tank significantly less efficient for inital heat transfer; hence the change over?
Or elsewhy the move to a 45 gallon drum?
Thanks again from alberta 🇨🇦. Going to be -27 Celsius tomorrow so looking forward to a reduced heating bill.
👍👍👍
Thanks Cw21 👍👍
Hi gerry can you convert an old stanley solid fuel range to waste oil burner
Hi Gerry, what type of flue do you use outside?? Single wall or the insulated type, just wondering as I’m fitting a home made waste oil burner out of an old stove, for a shed and don’t really feel like spending a fortune on the insulated type..cheers and keep up the good work👌👌
Hi Frank, I just use a single wall but be careful if you go through your roof. Hope your waste oil burner works out well for you 😀Thanks for the comment, much appreciated. Cheers Gerry👍
Are you making kits to sell yet?as far as the door and flu/backpipe?
Hi Christoper. Because we are into the warmer weather now I haven't had this running on oil but I was considering making a few. Maybe later in the year after I run it for a while. Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry👍
How long would a barrel like that last? It's not the thickest steel in the world, so I imagine not long. Though I guess 90% of the work is the reusable door.
Hi Jim, I would expect it to last in excess of 3 years, as the most aggressive part of the flame is kept away from the edge of the stove. You're right, the hard work is in the reusable door and other parts and that's the main idea of this stove. Thanks for the comment, Cheers Gerry 👍
My first first! Lol
Hi Martin. Well done. You have just won an all Expenses paid holiday to Ireland. Of course Terms and conditions apply 😜 Thanks very much for commenting Martin Cheers Gerry👍👍
@@GerrysDiy ha ha ha ha ha!
I'de love to visit where my great ×3 grandmother came from. I'm afraid the terms and conditions are a brick wall. Thank you my friend! Cheers.
I would be worried that I might get a barrel with fumes in it and it would blowup when I cut into it.
Hi Cajun Living. I have some videos where I used propane tanks as stoves. The contents would be highly flammable but I just fill it with water and purge the gases. Lots of these barrels available with food colourants etc. The advantage with these barrels is that they are quick to heat up and available everywhere. I will be converting this to run on straight veggie or motor oil next week. Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry 👍
Wont last very long....the metal of the drum is waaay to thin.If you can lay your hands on one of the older galvanized drums...you will be better off.
Hi John, I would hope to get a few years out of it as the aggressive part of the flame is directed away from the walls of the barrel. This is a modular build so I can reuse the parts on a new barrel when its needed. Thanks for the comment, Cheers Gerry 👍
Avoid heating galvanized metal, it gives off poisonous gas that will kill you. Just FYI
