- The Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM is one of the most popular pancake lenses for Canon’s full-frame DSLRs, offering two great benefits:
First, the 40mm focal length on a full-frame camera provides a wider angle than the classic 50mm, making it more versatile, especially in tight spaces.
Secondly, it is small and lightweight, so its more portable and less intimidating. When you combine these benefits, the Canon 40mm f/2.8 proves to be a great option for everyday photography. Everyone that owns this lens will have a great time.

What is your opinion about this pancake lens?
I love this lens! It lives on my 6D and is sharp even at 2.8 and super compact!
100% agreed, that is one of my go to lenses if I'm not sure what I'm going to shoot!
Yup, good choice! You can't go wrong with it! Thank you for your thoughts!
This was the second lens I ever purchased (apart from the 2 kit lenses that came with my first DSLR, the 700D) because the 50mm f/1.8 was too much of a telephoto for everyday use combined with a crop sensor camera. However, I still have it today as one of my daily drivers for street photography, even on my R5 for all the reasons you mentioned in your video, and I’m really happy that I kept it all along!
Wow, a $200 pancake lens on a Canon R5. So it really is a special lens for you. I'm glad you are enjoying it! Thank you for sharing this story!
This is an outstanding lens. Wish LUMIX had one for full frame cameras.
Maybe they will release one (hopefully)
@@apertureatlas yes the S9 certainly calls for it.
Is it good for crop sensor?
Yes, it works on a crop sensor camera and it's a good lens.
