    I find clay pots to work better than plastic for me. I am inclined to over water and the clay pots dry out quicker than plastic when I do. I like plastic for my orchids rather than clay simply because the orchids I keep like more water and of course are in a course bark soil that drains and dries fairly quickly.

      So true Bill :-D Clay pots are great for allowing the water to dry out faster in the pots :-D thanks so much for your fantastic comment and for watching and sending you tons of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a WONDERFUL Wednesday ahead XXXXXXXX

    I know some cacti have spines for protection, but growing at home would it hurt to just barely clip the sharp spine tips? To make it easier to handle. Not doing anything till I hear from you.😇 thank you dear for sharing all your wonderful wisdom , say hello to Hans.

    • @desertplantsofavalon

      Hi Denise :-D thats no problem at all to trim the spines for protection and can be recommend at times especially for our safety and for pets and young children

    Good video. Thanks for the info about the soil. My soil tends to hold moisture for a while although the top of the dirt is dry.

    Thanks for the videos Lyn :-). Have you ever used pumice instead of grit or perlite? I have been using pumice a lot for the first time this year and I can't recommend it enough! Its much lighter and airier than grit or sand and roots seem to grow amazingly fast in it when compared to sand and grit!Have a great weekend :-)

    I have a Kalanchoe beharensis 'Fang'/felt plant, and I was wondering if you could give any tips to taking care of it. It's raining currently, I haven't been able to take it outside lol

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  5 років тому

      Thats wonderful they are beautiful plants, I will be making a care video on Kalanchoe's in the coming weeks but its best to keep your K. beharensis in a sunny position and at a minimum winter temperature of between 5-8c, they can take colder than this but ideally no lower than 5c the minimum and the soil kept mostly dry over the winter, some Kalanchoe's are Winter growers and my K. beharensis still lkes to grow through Winter although at a much slower rate, and this is where it can be difficult with the watering etc, If you are growing inside the house keep in a sunny window and water once a month to prevent drying out the roots, but stay tuned for a future video I will make on these plants where it will be easier to give more detailed care tips :-D sending lots of love and happiness and plant power for a fantastic day XXXXX
