Erika your cacti and succulent repotting came out so nice and the top dressings really set them off. I also HATE mosquitoes, ever since I was a kid they have been drawn to my blood 🩸 I’ve seen people wrap the cactus in newspaper when they repot.
I will never be able to not use top dressing again, it just looks wrong not to have it now hehe & I’ll have to try the newspaper on my old man cactus since he likes to stab U got sweet blood & this is the price to pay lol
Hi Erika! I’ve missed you videos! So happy to see another upload for from you 🥰 I’ve been a subscriber since about 2019 and you’re still one of my favorite “Plant-tubers”! 💚💚💚
You make me want to give succulents a try for my outdoor garden! I understand the disdain for mosquitoes too, I’ve been wearing a beekeeper hat when I work in the yard now. I may look a bit silly but it’s a game changer!
13:15 is a fishhook barrel cactus pup. I top dress all my succulents with the same crushed rock and have them in various shaped and sized terracotta pots. Its continuity has its own appeal. I ALWAYS use kitchen or bbq tongs when handling all my cacti. It’s not worth the following hours of irritation.
what a great video, I enjoyed watching you repotting the cactus, they look great... They will thrive in their new pots! I think I need to go cactus shopping!
Good time to repot😁☝️💞The cacti like repotting in the cooler weather. Yeah, we get mosquitoes here and I get attacked all the time. I use inscence coils outdoors and a mosquito repellent on my skin. I enjoyed Watching😌
Hi Erika! Those mosquitoes are a nuisance😅They swarm around me too, so I use inscence coils and burn them when I'm outside. You did the right thing to rinse off any old soil👌I water my cacti after repotting, but I keep my cacti outdoors. I enjoyed watching😊🤲🌟
Idk if you know about the trick but my grandfather taught me that if you get some cactus spines stuck in your finger, specifically the thin tiny ones that are hard to see and remove but you can definitely feel they are there, to rub your hair on your head and it can make them come out. I tried it the one time i touched a cactus and it definately worked.
I have never heard of that! I’m def going to try it! Lol watch the needle stab deeper into my finger 😂 that’s so cool tho I kind of want to purposefully touch a cactus now..
That would make the spines go deeper into your skin. I guess once the spine is pushed deep enough under your skin then you couldn't feel that it's there anymore.
Everything is beautiful and I love your desire to save money with everything you do lol. I stopped going to Goodwill because I noticed that after the pandemic
Oh my gosh! The Haworthias look amazing, especially the variegated one!! Great job repotting them! Unfortunately none of the plants you sent me survived my 2 moves.☹️ I lost a lot of plants, feels like only my snake plants and haworthias survived. 😢 Great video as always!
Yayyy!! I was wondering if you would see them I love them they’re thriving!!! 🤩 that’s ok, 1 move is already a lot, but 2 omg I been losing plants left & right too but now I’m just like eh, more room for new ones 😂
Payback? That's funny!😁 I hope to successfully grow more succulents in the future. Love your little scooper. I know it seems aggressive to use the hose that way, but sometimes the situation calls for it. We'll see if cacti are in my journey. Take Care. Aloha! 🪴
Love your collection! I love the way top dressing looks but I have a hard time deciding when to water when I use it especially with cactus because I can’t squeeze leaves. When will you water and will you keep them on a watering schedule or will you keep them outside?
The cacti i will keep outside. But usually I will notice them kind of shrivel? They look smaller & less plump & that’s when I’ll water. Even when I squeeze them they’re not as hard as usual. I’m not sure I that’s waiting too long, but I don’t want to overwater lol. Recently, being so hot, that has been around every ~10 days
Hi Erika I found it funny when you said you layer up when mosquitoes are out. I live in Australia up north where it's hot and 'mozzies' here re ruthless. I absolutely hate being bitten and 100000% agree in preferring to sweat my butt off with heaps of clothes on as opposed to being bitten and itchy. I hate being itchy hahaha. Love your videos!
Same concerning my ammak, thought about reporting, but didn't-very strange soil, Stam half buried.... It rotted... Alway repot the more rare stuff into the Wright substrate 🍀
Everytime I re pot one off my plants I ply your videos love watching an really love your passion for plants I can relate, your so f*ckin beautiful Mayne 😍 liked how you jus jumped in with no gloves they jus get in the way great job can tell you have a good green thumb an btw you have such beautiful hands , I swear todo te ti 🥰💯❤
Hi! Love this video♡ The tree behind you int the intro looks like a bigger version of schefflera.. what kind is it? And surprised at how deep your ammak was buried in such a potting mix and be ok!
Cactus thorns, spines or spikes are called Cactus glochids. I had a cactus I grew from a cutting and was forever getting stuck whenever I got near it, I gave the cactus away. LA Co. Vector control will come out to check on your mosquito problem.
Thank you! I don’t think I ever knew that was the word for it They came last year when it was bad too, but this summer there have just been so many bugs. Except for bees tho ☹️ but the spider mites have been going crazy
I love succulents and I have a large collection. I am more into aloes and rhipsalis. I only repot when it’s outgrown it’s pot, I only use tongs (no gloves). I have a lot of opuntias, they grow very large when you leave them alone. Wanted to ask you, at the beginning of your video you’re standing in front of an umbrella plant right? It’s massive! Really enjoyed your video From El Paso TX
Yes it’s a big umbrella plant! Been there for over 50 years probably. I’ve tried propagating it before, but it didn’t take Also I love love Rhipsalis & have been wanting to grow my collection since I only have 2 lol
I repotted my Old man cactus today. Now I need to do my cresula but don't know how without breaking her...her name is Madussa by the way. Any ideas? P.S....I used tongs to hold my old man cactus while I put the dirt in around him. Also I use a small paint brush to get all the excess soil off 😁
Mosquitos breed in still water. Do you have containers with water around your property. It pays to empty them regularly in.hot weather. If you live near a lake or dam not much you can do. I grow citronella and rub thae leaves on my skin when they are bad, which is usually at dusk.
I don’t think they are online, but I’ll check! I got the cream one from Ross, the volcanic rock from green thumb, & the gray rock from desert creations
if you dont like using gloves use paper or newspaper to hold them you can either cover the cactus with paper or just use paper to hold them. Using sharp object to hold them is a risk of wounding the cactus
Haworthia roots go hollow once they die off, which they basically do every season or so. Healthy haworthia are constantly losing old roots and growing new ones. Keep the soil gritty and water every 10 or so days and they are the easiest of the collectable succulents in my opinion
Last time I wore gloves repotting a cactus I got stabbed through the gloves into my hand so the gloves where impaled on me I recommend using bbq tongs to hold your cactus
9:30 I CANNOT tell you how many times I have found a Dollar Tree product at Goodwill priced at $2-$5. Like bruh, we are shopping at Goodwill, do you really think all our broke asses don't know whats at Dollar Tree?
you captured the plants so gorgeously at the end. at first i was like ehh they’re okay & i totally understand why you got each one of them now
Thank you for sharing beautiful and amazing succulents lovely collection beautiful
Thank youuu 🤗
Thanks I learned a lot from your video 🥳
Those flowers are almost as beautiful as you are 😊
Re-potting cactus without gloves is a skill 😆
Lots of skill to not get stabbed 😂
Yeah I have to use tongs when I'm potting my catcus 😣😣
@@rmichele3287 I'm already used to it. I mean, potting bare handed lol. 😆
Your videos are very informative. Thanks for sharing
They are definitely looking so much better. You did a great job. 💚🌵
Thanks! 🌵
Amazing job. They look like they came from a high end plant store, great content, I really enjoyed. Thankyou
Ahh thank u so much! That was my goal 🤩

Yes I completely agree! But I also still like to shop lol

Yes to cactus shopping!
Yay! Nice little cactus collection! 🎉
I've never used top dressing for my cacti/succulents and now I must 😂😍Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you Erika. I love your channel.

Love cacti they are such awesomley beautiful plants😍

I just started going again, but I’m not buying that often. It’s a good way to practice not letting things annoy me tho lol

They don’t seem to grow much, but it’s nice to have such low care plants that you can count on. It’s a fun variation to have 😁
i’m in love with your echinopsis! So cute!!!

Cacti and succulents, my fav! But wow, you repotted a lot of plants in one go haha. I tend to only do a few max per weekend.
I wanted to see your choice of pots for the really tall column one???
Interesting collection!
Thanks I will keep growing it 😁

Hello what soil you use for the cactus 🌵 thanks
I used uni-gro cactus mix & pumice
@@ErikaLodes thanks 🙏🏻
What happened with the two tall cacti that were in the really bad soil?
Whats the benefits of the top layers?
Suddenly I really want some cacti now! I'm getting pretty annoyed with my echeveria and it's droopy leaves. Cacti would be a nice change.
Yes cacti are so nice! I feel like I would murder an Echeveria so quickly they seem v difficult to care for so it’s good yours is still living 😄

No idea, I had to repot a tall Haworthia & I broke off so many pieces that I’m trying to root now 😅
how do you fertilize your cacti? what fertilizer brand?
How often do you water your cacti and succulents? Love your collection! 🌵
The succulents need water around once a week & the cacti (depending on their pot size) every 1- 2 weeks
