Matt - incredible performance!!! I love your syncopated cymbal bell work, which is something I also employ in my playing. And like everyone else, I absolutely love the fill you do at the 2:00 mark. I've been playing myself for over 45 years and you've become one of my favorite drummers. Cheers!

As a bassist and not a drummer, this has been one of my favorite drum tracks since I bought "Them" in college and was blown away by Mikkey Dee. I know this isn't Mikkey, but I also know King is a perfectionist and he wouldn't hire a slouch. Matt is no slouch here.

@@jonmiller8412 Sean takes it up the arse so , the masculinity displayed by somebone like Joey Baron is hardly present ( trust me, seen them live countless times, not even in the same league tbh ) ... Vinnie Paul has/had got its own sound , yeah , tight af ... not a complete drummer at all otherwise, just a Metal drummer , and a good one at that , mind you.
As for Dave Lombardo, I grew on that guy so I am highly biased, I see him as this Demi - God drummer which trascends styles and bands and whatever ... so yeah , agreed in a way , hell yeah !

This is how you play it correctly. Very talented and gifted. God has blessed this man to play drums at a very high level. Great video.
Yes genre correct playing is very important. A Jazz Fusion drummer could pull this off blow by blow but in 99.9% it would sound a little off because of details that are specific to the genre would be missing. Just like Steve Vai sounded a little off with Whitesnake in 1990. It's all about the fit. Even though several drummers tried, I never thought anyone could play their bands original material better than original drummers for WASP, GnR, ACDC.
But let's not forget to give some credit to Satan!

I do too! They tend to get a bad rep from some Sickdrummer subscribers, but I think that's just because a lot of them are young highschool kids that just go with whatever cymbals are on the Bandwagon. Their rides and China's have always been some of the best on available. I just don't care for most of the "Rude series".

I never really noticed how complex this rhythm was until watching Matt in action--this is not easy stuff, and it also speaks volumes of not only how awesome Mikkey Dee is, but how awesome Matt is for picking this up and doing it justice--not to mention making it his own--as well as he clearly has. Good work, Matt!

DrumzR4Real The first KD albums are pretty progressive. Mickey Dee laid down some damn fine work on those albums. Of course there is a sea of reverb to wade through, before you can pick up on it all lol.
I saw him last October and it was awesome! You won't be disappointed.
Killer everything bro. Im a guitar player but these drummers he has are THA SHIT. Im not a big fan of HIS "per se' ", but King never falls short in the musician department. From Andy to Mickey to everyone, all are top notch, world class. Its because of them (no pun intended) that I like his music.

+Mickey Holm I saw King Diamond twice in the 80's, once in the 90's with Mercyful Fate, then again recently (last month), and you're right. His vocals this last time were so awesome compared to any other time I've seen him. All of his shows have been great but this last time I saw him, his singing was just too awesome to describe.
BM I'm really looking forward to the new album. If he can sing this good live, imagine what i sounds like in the studio! :o But we got a taste of his voice on Volbeat's "Room 24", and that was a couple of years ago, so I think he is even better now :)

Mickey Holm Yes. Twice. On the Abigail and Them tours. I saw Mercyful Fate with Snowy Shaw playing the drums on the In The Shadows tour.
