    Note for anyone like me with a rade air box made in 2018 or before: Check if your existing air box uses heat set inserts rather than the bolt mounting system shown in this video.
    There was apparently a design change at some point, with no indication that these new filters and cage will NOT work with that style air box - there's a plastic bump under the heat set inserts which are not open at both ends and therefore cannot be used to mount the new attachment system. It's not possible to remove the heat set insert and end up with a flat surface on the bottom of the lip for the filter to bolt onto.
    Rade doesn't indicate this at all on their website and I've been grounded for the last week waiting for new filters only to find out they don't fit.

      Yep- Asked Rade about this and says no problem- Got the new filter kit upgrade for my 2019 690 and went thru this same issue, did not fit- Rade did agree to send me the new style airbox at no charge but it was a bit frustrating and it took another 2+ weeks to get it. Plus I also discovered that the lower O2 sensor hole is now located a couple inches away from the older airbox- Had to completely re-do the hose connection which was a complete pain with the gas tank in- Finally done but quite a simple project turned difficult.

    Funny, I watched your original video when I was doing the install on my "new style" Rade intake...talk about a head scratcher! I finally figured it out. I'm happy with how mine went on (standard 701, not the LR) and is performing. New sounds out of the bike, seems to be a tad more grunt down low. So, combined with the SAS canister delete and some lower gearing, bike has really come into its own in the technical stuff and doesn't seem as bottled up.

      Hah. see, I never knew there was a revision of this until just last week or I would have said something. Sorry for misleading you.

    Mine also came with a orange fine mesh cover for the air filter.. I’ve added that as I’m assuming it’ll help keep the filter cleaner.

    I have a 701 with the older Rade Garage filter, just like yours. Notice how part of the filter is always clean?
    That's because the seat pan hits it and keeps air from getting to it.
    Does the new one have clearance with the seat pan?

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  7 місяців тому +1

      Great question. The new one gets completely dirty. I had not thought of that but clearly the revised design is doing a better job making full use of the filter surface area.

    Hey Sir, I know you posted a while back but still hoping to get a response.. thanks a lot in advance!!
    I am torn on this step, I have a 701 enduro from 2020 (EURO4) with an Akrapovic slip on. It has been like this from day 1 (first owner bought it, put the exhaust, sold it to me after 1000km). No issues for now but I don't have much power down low, just my perception I probably need to test another 701.
    I just mounted a rotweiler fuel dongle and di not notice any increase in power or torque.
    Do you think it is safe to but this airbox to my bike? Do I need a power commander or dyno?
    Thanks a lot,
    G

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  Рік тому

      The fuel dongle is supposed to eliminate the bike adjusting its fuel mixture to account for Airbox + exhaust. So you shouldn’t have reduced power but you may run a bit rich sometimes (better than lean so long as you keep in top of checking spark plugs to ensure you’re not burning them up. Power commander is certainly an option but I have been happy with my setup of Airbox + wings exhaust + fuel dongle.

    How noisy is the RG intake vs stock? I installed the RP intake on my 21 690R and it was so noisy that I ended up removing it. I imagine the RG intake is the same since is basically exposes the intake snorkel. I really dislike the oem airbox design because it does not seem to seal well and I continue to get dust passing the filter even though I have made attempts to address that (DNA filter with power plate top and grease around the seal).

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  Рік тому

      You hear a lot more intake sounds for sure but it's not disruptive to my ears since I'm wearing ear plugs but it does indeed make the bike slightly louder. I wish I had a way to measure just how much lower though.

  • @richardkessen7009
    @richardkessen7009 2 роки тому +2

    Not sure if I like the new design Adam. The old one sticks much better to the air box with the metal bracket pushing it right down. Or am I wrong?

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  2 роки тому

      Yes, it seals better (the old design) but the truth is, the way that snorkel thing fits into the intake housing is pretty loose so as far as water-ingress, I’d say both the old filter and new will pull in water if you go up to the top of the snorkel thing. I’d much prefer the plastic all be one piece up to the foam but it’s not.

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  2 роки тому

      I played back the video. I did want to add the movement you saw around 4 minutes in is indeed that snorkel design. The air filter box sits on that snorkel so while air coming in is filtered, I think if you submerge the bike above the top of the snorkel shown around 3:50 in, it will pull in water. That air box is loose like that even if the air filter was bolted on tight.

      Hey Adam, same with mine, it does not wiggle and is actually very tight on the snorkel. I could possibly pull the box off the snorkel but no way I'd get it back on without removing the snorkel from the throttle body first...

    not cheap but the difference the Rottweiller intake/exhaust smog delete cat delete ect made on my last bikewas really night and day like KTM really should have made it that way from the factory ! so much so i didnt hesitate to ordered the whole kit for the new bike i havent even picked up yet

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  2 роки тому +1

      The Rottweiler air intake kit A) doesn’t give you as much storage B) the storage is inaccessible on the Long Range model due to the larger tank C) rubs the inside of the frame and it’s metal on metal. A few long Range buyers purchased the Rottweiler kit and most I saw returned it which is why I went with this. I do think their setup is nicer and better built but the LR being such a limited run bike, I doubt Rottweiler will redesign their unit to fit the LR perfectly.

    What do you guys think about the filtereffect of a foamfilter?
    I am a bit scared. A normal filter is normally the best solution don't get dirt into the intake.
    I was at a workshop at Bosch-Filters in Germany. The filter-surface is immense.
    This is the reason why I torn back and forth to install the auxiliary tank at my Husky 701.

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  2 роки тому

      Paper filters are superior as they filter out more sediment but they can't be cleaned out. Foam filters need to be cleaned more often but you can clean them so you can keep a filter for a few years so long as you keep cleaning it. If you over oil the foam filter, you will reduce its efficiency.

      I always smother the seating surface of the foam filter with a healthy amount of grease to ensure a dust tight seal against the airbox. Cheap insurance for me against dirt in the intake.
