    Glad to see the crank breather amendment and the better fit on the front of the filter.

    Have owned street bikes with deleted airboxes and pod filters in the past. Biggest concern I have with this mod, and the Rottweiler airbox replacement mod, is intake noise, which can be very loud and annoying, with a cards in the bicycle spokes sound. The 2nd concern in the engine sucking hot air during slow going, causing funky running - probably less of a concern with an injected bike vs. the old carb'd street bike with pod filters.
    I would like to punt the hard to remove and install stock airbox into the weeds though, and the resulting storage looks nice. Bonus, a meatball sammich wrapped in foil could be served nice and warm from the engine heat if stored in the "garage". The Rottweiler airbox replacement setup gives quite a bit more power, but it is money, and I can't say these bikes are really starved for power. It is good to mod and map them to get them to run crisper and cooler though, and the power bump is nice. My bike has a Yosh can and Rottweiler's map on a PC6 and I can't praise that combo enough.
    I wound up doing a "stealth airbox mod" with my bike. The stock snorkel empties via a small hole over the front of the air filter, concentrating dirt at the front of the filter. I used a hole saw and followed up with a jig saw blade held in vice grips to carefully cut a rectangle on the inside of the airbox lid which exposes the entire length of the snorkle. I left the exterior of the snorkle alone.
    There is no sign of the mod from the outside as only the inside of the snorkle is removed over the filter. This distributes the air and dirt over the entire filter. The intake sound is minimally affected as the exterior of the snorkle is still in place. I actually I think it sounds better. I can't say if power increased from this mod, it already has plenty, so whatever. I do like how it uses the entire twin air foam panel filter I installed better, that was the goal.

    Quick little tip: Just finished doing this very thing. Get a small pry bar stick it through the frame and get it on the edge of the rubber boot attached to the throttle body. Give it a little nudge and pops right off and airbox is out...no muscling it out required.

      Thank you! Congrats on the new airbox, yourself.

    I did the same mod on my LR. And now need to remove the tank again. The plastic flaps that cover the front of the frame buzz terribly when going down the road. I figure it’s because these flaps are originally secured with the OEM air box bolts. The right side also serves as the mount for the rectifier. I’m going to have to put a bolt through the flaps and secure them with a nut though the OEM frame tabs

      oh wow, good tip! I know exactly what you're talking about and yeah, so I've put in bolts in those now empty holes, I had some OEM bolts left over that matched the threads perfectly. one under the rectifier, another under the crankcase breathers..happy to share photos. I think I'm good but now you have me worried.

    The breather hose just needs to follow the route taken by the original hose..plenty of room for the LT tanks to fit on. Unless you are doing a SAS removal you will need a T in that breaker hose connecting to a replacement for the vertical one you pulled out. You might want to test fit your tank on top of the storage box...that's the area I found tight. When you are in there you should consider the Rally Raid Injector screw replace ment kit ...not very expensive but does away with the easy to damage Philips screw holding the Injector to the intake.

    Hi Adam, I've just bought one of these for my bike. There is more detail on the Rade Garage website about removing the airbox if you look under the auxiliary fuel tank details - there is a long video here that includes the trick with a screwdriver for removing the air intake from the throttle body. Loved your video though - the more you can see it being done, the less chance of botching it! Thanks.

    A little leverage goes a long way on the back of that airbox. Tools are better than hands.

      No rally kit for 2021. I may re-consider next year but I want to keep weight down and really feel out the bike before I take the plunge.

    I was literally writing about the air foam and crankcase breather tube when the edit came in lol

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  3 роки тому +2

      Yep, Jim below pointed it ou in the previous time I posted this video. He found the unlisted version and added the comment which lead to the edit :) Glad he saw that and that's part of why I document these things on the Internet (forums or UA-cam). I have no shame in acknowledging a mistake and fixing it so future people don't have the issue but if I had never posted this video, I may have been riding a bike with problems and not know why so I'm glad you guys are here to call me out. It's good for everyone!

      @@AdamChandler86 thanks for your videos they are all great and will all help eachother along the way ive just bought the newly designed air filter system from rg . im goin to regretfully leave out the storage box as i believe leaving it out will help keep engine cool . along with taking out toolbox behind fan.

    Hey Adam, great video. My RG kit did not come with any instructions and the one on the RG website is so basic it's pointless so you've been a great help. Just a question about the mount holes for the storage compartment bracket. It appears you've used the front bracket holes to mount the bracket with washers (see 19:38 in video) but I believe you should use the back holes into the frame (theres a 2nd hole behind where you mounted) as the front holes are for the side fairings to plug back on. Also I notice you have added washers between the bracket and frame, but my thinking is that if they supplied nylocks they do not need to be tightened hard against the frame so the bolts just fit with a gap and washers are not required. Thanks again for the vid.

      Hi Mark, Good eye on the mount location. I actually did end up relocating it a few months later. That's the problem with UA-cam. they won't let me replace the video so I'd need to upload a new one which is fine but I keep forgetting to do that.

    Thanks again for your video! Not sure if it's worth for an ADV bike prep, if it is the case. In my opinion the airbox's purpose is to slow the airflow so the particles drop before the intake as well as a water protection in case of falling in a river. What do you think after seing phisically the kit regarding this topic? Not quite sure about this mod in my bike... For sure the maintenance easiness and storage are a great plus :)

      If I compare this to the OEM box, I would say it is a down grade from reliability & design. The OEM box has a small opening angled up and is farther forward and uses paper filters which I prefer. This is sitting just under my crotch behind the vey hot engine and the box Is not very water tight and the filter is very exposed. It would absolutely give the user no confidence that any water, even a tiny bit wouldn't just get sucked right in. It likely does add power (1-2HP)due to the complete lack of restriction but I'll be cleaning it often when riding in the dust. The box storage is nice and makes up for the downsides so long as I never drop this in a river.

      I might change my Rade intake to the Rottweiler intake... I'm not too impressed with the way the Rade seals to the intake...it seems difficult to get a tight seal with the 2nd hose clip....not the first on that goes on the intake.

    Hi, I m not sure but with this kind of air filter ( I use this for my r1200gs Foam filter) you suppose to put oil on....

    How would you gage the intake noise with this mod? Thanks!

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  2 роки тому +1

      The issue with me is I never operated the bike without this intake so I don’t know how the bike sounds stock. I’ve had an aftermarket intake & exhaust from mile 1. So no complaints. The bike is a little noisy @ the cams but I hear that goes away @ 600 miles when I switch to synthetic.

    Hi bro, have you feel a problem with the sand/dirt or the power since you modified it?

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  3 роки тому +1

      I didn't really add power, just allowed more intake / exhaust air and smoothed out power using the fuel dongle. It also has a Rekluse so I just point the tire where I wanna go, keep it in 2nd and give it throttle and away it goes. No complaints at all with how the power gets to the tires although I can't wait to switch tires. This bike needs more grip than the TKC80s want to give it.

    How much does the stock airbox weigh?

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  3 роки тому +1

      I actually don't know. Maybe 3-4 pounds, I'll try to remember to measure it. I'd say you're at most saving a pound by doing this, nothing massive but the accessibility to getting to the filter easier & the added storage made it worth it for me.

    • @AdamChandler86
      @AdamChandler86  2 роки тому +1

      Maybe. I'm not racing so that's not really a concern to me but something people may want to look into if they are concerned.

      I’ve just did this mod with the aux tank. There is a noticeable power increase and the bike is running much better. I have a wings end can and fuel dongle fitted.
