Thank you, and this was the most informative video on the subject I found on UA-cam. When you mentioned your AC back up, are you talking about your batteries powering it through an inverter? That’s how I would like to do it and then let my actual AC line power kick in when the batteries get weak, if that’s possible.
Good information, I actually have this same Hybrid Mini Split from a different company same Mini Split different name. From my experience, AC Limiter only works in Acinput mode ONLY not when Pvinput is using solar. And, The AC Power Limiter feature to get full access of 25%, 50% and 75% of AC Input this feature only works with the hybrid model. Plus, To channel from these three fixed temperature settings can only work off the hand controller using the "Down outlet open/close" button not from the app. Pressing the 'Down outlet open/close" button on the controller, On the wall mount controller head Number "1" is for 25%, Number "2" is 50% and Number "3" is 75%. From my experience this only works in AC input not when mini split is using solar. Which is great, during the night I like using different AC power settings to save on electricity. Then, When the sun is out it automatically draws from solar thus reducing full usage from AC Power.Limiter. I recommend down loading the Mini Split full version manual from EG4 Electronics, Page 33 explains the AC Power Limiter feature. I'm still learning how to use the Mini Split, it does have some cons but the pros far outweigh the negative. With Summer behind us, currently using as a Heat Pump during the nights and early mornings. It's great! Sometimes I can run it at it's lowest setting during the night and then bump it up to 50% or 75% during the early morning before 3 AM. I'm not trying to warm the entire house, That's imposable with this unit but it will warm a portion of the house or at least the living home or a large bedroom, Good luck everyone and enjoy the Mini Split. Forgot to add, I'm using four 400 Watt solar panels total "1600" watt setup on my patio on a ground rack mount assigned only for the Hybrid mini-split. And a separate off-grid solar generator setup to power the house with it's own solar panels to charge the solar generator if the Grid was to ever go down for long periods. To make this legal in my county, Had to hire an electrician to install an outside disconnect and its own 20 amp breaker on the outside electrical panel.

Interesting and informative video. Is this the 24K BTU version? Do you have any info on typical overnight energy use, especially if running off batteries.
This is the 12k btu. It really depends on the temperature you're trying to achieve and the outdoor temp, it can ramp down as low as 200w or as high as 1300w so it's hard to put a number on the power consumption.
this is exactly what i been looking for, I want a couple solar mini splits, and i live in a desert. It rains like 3 days a year, so i have A LOT of sunshine, but when its summer its 110+ on average. At night 11PM it is still 95, so then okay great, i got solar splits for the day but how in the world do i keep them going at night time as well. One thing I am wondering about is how long are these things supposed to last?
I just got a 6000xp to run my 2 minisplits through the night, it's a little pricey but it's an amazing system. Thank you for this wonderful video on the EG4 Hybrid A/C. I purchased the 12000 BTU but have not set it up yet. Still need to purchase the solar panels. Which is my question. I had listened to another youtuber introduce this almost two years ago and he stated that he had x4 400 watt solar panels and that you would need at least that much to run it during the day with no problem. Would you say that is about correct with your experience where you are? The math equation when calculating solar and the technical jargon are not my specialty. You demonstrated that 140 watts coming in would be the bare minimum? How does that translate to what I would need in regards to solar panels? The x4 400 watt minimum? Thanks again.
4 x 400w is the perfect number for best efficiency, you can get away with less but most people like to connect the maximum allowable solar so it can run better in poor sun conditions
Thanks for the video. Would one of these work for a walk in insulated cooler room or root cellar to store food? People make those with window AC’s, they trick the temp sensor so it runs constantly, getting the room colder than designed. I guess you would need to start with an AC that can put out 40F air to start with though. Thanks
Thanks Damon! I haven't calculated it but the victron definitely does a better job. I only have one panel hooked up to it right now. Upgrades coming soon!
Very good videos! Im going to buy serval of these EG4 units thanks to your reviews. I have 4K watts worth of panels i havent installed in a array yet so they will be perfect for this setup! Easy plug n go.
Wow! That’s efficient! The 9.5k btu unit I put on my campervan pulls 1000-1250 watts… works well but even with my 15kwh battery it dies in about 12-24 hours. Good for what I needed though.
maybe on startup. should amble along at 500w when it finds your temp, unless you're sitting in hell's canyon. check again. are you trying to heat a tourbus?
Lowest I've watched it pull while the compressor was running is about 750-800 watts. I have Victron shunts to measure the power. It pulls 80 watts just to run the indoor fan. @@mikemotorbike4283

Thank you so much for this video. Been watching some videos about combo/solar mini splits and I wondered how little of solar panel it would be possible to get by on for some occasional solar cooling and heating. So this means you could run this off 4 cheap 100W panels from Harbor Freight or Amazon then, huh? Can you please repeat this video in the winter and see approximately how many minimum watts are needed to heat? Thanks! I’m wondering/hoping that I can some day out 4 100W panels on the roof of a 7x7 resin shed to power one of these mini splits on solar only for portions of days. Wish they made a 9k BTU version that would use even less power to make this even more likely to be possible for me.
Thanks for watching! I can definitely repeat this in the winter, it does use quite a bit more power in heating mode. You could get away with some cheaper panels but make sure the voltage is high enough, it needs a minimum of 90V DC
Most people have said that around 1000 watts is the best to have with these units at the highest voltage that the spec sheet said. The most solar if I recall was around 3k and 300 volts or something like that.
@@hanklinch2833 Is that EG4 branded or Deye? I was unaware that they had the smaller unit. Deye also carries a water heater with the same thing. Which would be quite cool to see how that works. On the water heater side I was thinking that if I had enough electric water heaters in a row I could preheat a lot of water. Yet the price of a 120 gallon water heater is expensive.
@@hanklinch2833 Do they have a hybrid/solar 9k available though? Thought they only had a 9k available that was a standard unit (not hybrid that can do solar power too)
Did you do something special to get 2 liquid tight cables on the outdoor unit? Our EG4 minisplit has MC4 connectors for the solar input (and i'd rather all the wiring be in liquid tight conduit).
I’m a new subscriber. Nice videos. I’m getting output temps in the low to mid 30 degrees range (F) on my 2 Pioneer mini splits. I was kind of surprised by the temp outputs in the video. I am in AZ. Maybe low humidity helps??
Thanks for subscribing! That's pretty cold, typically you should see a 20 to 25f temp drop through the unit so it depends on your indoor temp, how many btus and the size of the space, but it sounds like it's working well!
Thank You! Liked and Subscribed. What was your AMBIENT TEMPERATURE at this low wattage consumption on limiter mode? Im in Houston, Texas where it is incredibly hot and humid. (94 F-107F @ 73-90% humidity) Not sure if that mode will work for me inside the house. But it might inside my small RV camper.
If you have no service at your house keep your phone on airplane mode and it'll get like an extra 1-2 days of battery (still can connect to wifi while in airplane)
Hi Smith, I just wanted to ask if the 12K is as good as the 24K? Do they both run the same power consumption or does the 12k run more. I was just trying to get some information. I’m totally off grid with 48volt system. Thanks for your input.
They are almost identical but the 24k has twice the capacity of the 12k. It would use about double the power, just depends how big the space is that your trying to heat or cool.
9k most efficient, decreasing efficiency the higher you go, and adding extra heads decreases efficiency of a unit. I wonder if there are there are greater losses running two units over one with two heads. With two separate smaller units you get redundancy, ease of installation and repair. Adding more complexity to a single unit and cost of recharging (every 5 years recommended) because very high skill level required of tech who may not have a lot of experience working on a manifold. Just try to find a tech willing to work on your unusual Chinese brand, hybrid unit, custom install, unwarranteed DIY installation without having to trade your firstborn or get on the down-low with the Mayor to get: insurance, local permits, inspection certs and warranty requirements. With two smaller units with single heads there are configuration advantages through simplicity of installation and externalities relating to DIY install. Also, you could turn off one at night. Or only run both when you're on AC. But don't listen to me I eat meat.

For L,N wiring. can you link what you used? To power it through AC power. L,N means live (hot) and N (neutral), correct? I am not asking about the gauge, but rather the cabling. I was wondering if I could just cut an extension cable and use those wires given that it has the appropriate gauge wiring
I installed thie 12k btu version a week or so ago and it works well. However, even with the temp set to minimun and fan on "turbo", i have not seen this unit pull more than 550W. Again, it works fine, i was just expecting a little more out of it.
Mine runs around the same but I have seen it pull more demand occasionally. It's all algorithm based, how quickly the indoor space is changing temp, how long its been at the current demand with no change etc.
if you don't have batteries will it run a lot on hot days, all day? I know it wouldn't run at night, but do you think it would run most of the day on a sunny day? I so want to get one of these in Florida, we have a lot of power outages during hurricane season, but can't afford the battery system. I was thinking of badding extra solar panels because I won't have batteries. Do you also know for this exact system you have about how many panels would be good?
Yes, that's the best part about these, You can run them on panel only. I have mine running all day, every day on 6 panels. It usually switches over to household power around 730pm

Also if I had to up the watts how much bigger of an inverter would I need like a 2,000W ? I'd appreciate the help. Someday Id like to run my whole house on solar, but this would be a foot in the door. Thanks.
If you were going to go with a 12k btu like this I would go 1600w of solar, 2000w inverter would be fine and probably 8 to 10kwh of battery would be a safe bet if you are somewhat shaded.
Total greenhorn here, but could you not just run solar to batteries and then use 2000w inverter to power 12k btu? Instead of two arrays; one to power 12k unit and another to feed batteries? Sure I'm missing something...
@aznick102 Yes you can, this is just a cheaper way to get started in solar air conditioning if you don't already have a large battery bank and inverter
Does it harm the unit at all with the shutting on/off just in pv mode?... Also what are the voltage and Amos limits on the 12ik unit? ...Thanks..... Jeff

I have a ac 200 L power station that i hope to run with mine, i have 1100 watts of solar on the roof of my bus but so far i have only seen a max of 500 watts.. my yard is tree heavy with shade. What watt does eco mode normally run on the eg4?
@SmitHVAC. yes, 120v 30 amp AC. I have (4) 20 amp ac plugs and one rv 30 amp plug. Im going to run the eg4 from one of those plugs with a 20 amp circuit breaker.
After waiting a month and half and shipping date kept getting pushed back, I’m giving up on hybrid eg4 and going with plan B… 9k eg4 and small solar system with batteries. How much electricity storage do you think I need to safely run over night plus some cloudy days? I’m in Las Vegas, so sun is out most of year.
Dumb question here but still researching..this is the 12,000 btu correct? Is 12k the only AC/DC model? They do not make a 9000 BTU AC/DC? For my motorhome, 9k I think is ideal but it seems their 9K model is AC only.

It can be converted to 48vdc or ran directly off an inverter. Solar direct is the easiest and cheapest. With how cheap solar panels are, what's wrong with a dedicated array?
The unit itself needs to be connected to WiFi. You could hotspot if you had a lot of data, but it needs internet of some sort if you want to use the app. It also has a remote you can use instead.

Avg minisplit life is 7 to 10 years, depends if you want to fix it or replace it when something major breaks.

@@SmitHVAC. Thank you so much for your perspective. That will be what I shoot for then. Have a great day and keep the videos going!
Thanks for the video. Would one of these work for a walk in insulated cooler room or root cellar to store food? People make those with window AC’s, they trick the temp sensor so it runs constantly, getting the room colder than designed. I've seen a few people hook the coolbots up to minisplits, definitely more common on the window AC's but this would work.

They are almost identical but the 24k has twice the capacity of the 12k. It would use about double the power, just depends how big the space is that your trying to heat or cool.
Ok thanks.
12k runs on 120v 24k requires 240v split phase
