Wanna build an off grid cabin and put a minisplit and run it on solar will have a wood stove too as backup. Just wanna run a mini split a fridge some lights and tv.
Inver price
You should be able to use the dry contact controls on the inverter to turn on loads with a relay, when the battery is full, as well as to turn off at a set charge as well. Which means in theory you could set this unit up to heat a much large thermal mass with a small pump and an expansion tank. It may actually be more efficient than the air source in the winter if you had adequate angle for the sun is.
Just a big "thank you!!!!" I live in central Mexico and had this problem and, despite never messing with a water heater like this ever before, was able to get it back and running perfectly in about one hour. Great video!!!

Any issues with the 38MURA? What are signs of low charge that a homeowner could pickup on? Thanks
Not as many issues on the Mura, just keep an eye out for oil residue on your service valves
@@SmitHVAC. Thanks for the quick response! There is oil residue on my valves, but my lineset is only about 10ft so I assume the installers let out some refrigerant to compensate for that. I do worry that maybe they let out too much, is there anything else I can look out for?
I would hope not. I'd take the caps off your service valves and spray them and the flare fittings with soap /water solution or leak detector. If you get any bubbles you have a leak.

Great video - you're in Canada - if you are in Ontario (like me), did you get ESA approval for the system? ESA requires UL9540A and UL9540 I believe according to their bulletins - the EG4 18k with the PowerPro battery has UL9540, but not the 6000xp. Or did you do a site-specific inspection?
I run a 20 gallon 120v water heater with a smaller 1k heating element. Run my system on a EG4 3k unit. No problems and normal showers.
To confirm, that Mini-Split runs on straight DC power from PV? No inverter required?

Heat pump water heaters would be more efficient. But not a bad option for those that have tighter spaces.

I have a 400sqft basement. I was thinking of getting this unit for it. It’s completely underground with 2” foam insulation on the concrete and floor. So the insulations is good. And it’s underground so the cold doesn’t get to it as much. Do you think that would work for me?
@@4Jeffv Absolutely, I'm thinking of doing one in my basement as well
I wish they would have told me the mini split that i bought with 10 solar panels "only needed 4" was not for solar. My mistake should have seen it but i didn't. Did they think well we will sell him another mini split.
You're not the only one, if it helps you feel better 😂
Just got an EG4 and i think it's great. To protect my unit, respectively solar panels and battery backup storage, I got an EMPShield for my home to have working power with heating/cooling if a CME or EMP were to occur. An investment I recommend all to make to protect your homes electrical system and all things connected via your outlets/breaker box. I used their promo "EMP24" and saved $50 at checkout.
Do you have a video about the generator port that plugs into the electrical panel of the house?
@@Jose_CitizenoftheWorld No not yet
We added to our system this year, 4.5KW conventional tank, but on 120v (instead of 240v) which means approx 1KW load/draw. On timer to run 6hrs max, whilst sun is up... Wife loves it, but not sure she'll be happy in winter when I reduce the daily run time...
Awesome! Keep bringing the great content.
Hi. What's the total wattage of your solar panels that made you decide to go with the 6.5 gallon unit? I'm trying to decide between 6.5 & 10 gallon. I saw that your usage was 4k watts/day?
I have 2.5kw right now, adding more soon.
@SmitHVAC. Thanks! I'm at 4.5K and think I can run a 10 gallon unit along with my other items.
This is one as you have the US electrical system. The split phase system appears to be more inconvenient than problems it solves because in case it’s like this well you have to worry about the power on each leg having just standard single phase at a higher current appears to be so much more convenient.
It was more of an issue with the previous firmware. With the latest update you can go up to 5000w per leg
@@SmitHVAC. that’s a bit strange power output is usually limited by physical design not firmware
In the UK we have a heating element in the water tank. I don’t know what you have available but there may be some heating solutions you have. It would probably be quite expensive unfortunately but that flexibility is good because you can do the bowl of the heating with access so when it is available, but when it is not available, you don’t have to worry.
@@UKsystems I've heard of this system now a few times, might be worth looking into it
@@SmitHVAC. we can get small tanks that are maybe 25 L and they essentially have a coil of pipe inside that a boiler can put hot water into heat it or you can use an electric element. The good thing is you can select an element that could run directly off solar if you didn’t want the inverter in efficiency, might help if you wanted to see something like that
What’s the minimum # of those panels I could use with the 6000 inverter ?
3
What if you hooked that little water heater next to your big water heater let the hot water warm up in the little water heater and it will go into the big water heater then from the big water heater it'll go into the house supply that'll be like pre-warming the water before it gets into the big water heater tank that might save the gas and hot water storage
I'll probably end up doing something like that!
Great video!! Thank you for answering all the questions below. If you had to pick one between the EG4 and the Ecosolaris which would it be? Is the Ecosolaris worth the extra $1000 Thanks for taking the time! Cheers
Wow you really have a basic system
Yes I can.. with my 2400w of PV dumping that into the 1600Ah (four 400Ah Li Time) lithium's. I just turn on the breaker and it starts heating up. Take about 15 to 20 minutes. All of the power goes through the 12v 3000 120 MPII, being controlled by a pair of 150\70's and monitored by the CERBO. I have 30A shore power, but have setup this '28 RV to be off grid. Speaking of HVAC, I use 2 separate 305w panels for primary power for the EG4 12k Hybrid mini split. Yesterday my EF Delta 2 with it's extra batteries powered it all day long.. consuming as little as 190w. Backup power in cloudy weather is powered by the Honda EU2000i. I don't get enough sun hours to tie the water heater into L2 on the MPII, but it's always an option.
I'm wondering what you think about dc appliances for every day use, just like the air conditioning you'd get a lot more life out of your batteries? PAUL 😮
You can finally buy air to water heat pumps in the US and they ship to Canada.
