The Zook Games sound too much like Santana's music at times. xD
I pray you will feel better soon. Having the flu is a nightmare
I hope you get feeling better soon! As we can't have any sick people suffering here!
"I'm playnig FF7 Demastered"
"You mean REmastered."
"I know what I said."
You can now play 3 different versions of ff7 for different systems it's kinda funny xD
@@st1ka Very good work on the graphic, now if some famitracker expert could improve the tunes this would be an instant classic
My game freezes after leaving the first Mako reactor. Does anyone else have this problem?
ff7 remake disc 3 hasnt even been published at the time of this comment
@@projectmayhem6898the game is bugged
I like how the Tiny Toons one used the Buster and Plucky sprites from the other NES games but didn’t have one for Hampton so he looks way different.
They should have made Fifi instead :3
That's a good point lol
@@st1ka It's the reason the music sounds so good for a Hummer Team game- they just ripped the music from the original NES game.
Hampton 😮I always thought it was Hamlot or something 😅
Hampton was playable in Tiny Toon Adventures 2: Trouble in Wackyland though- strange they didn't use that one.
I think the reason Morrigan is a nurse, in Queen Fighter 2000, is because that was one of her combo costumes in Pocket Fighter lol
Makes sense 😅
she also has figures available in her nurse outfit, it seems to be a thing with her. Is she a nurse when in the human realm?
@@ChibiKami I didn't know that. Could be! Like how Felicia was a nun?
At first I thought your wizard pixel art over the babe I'm Bubble Bath Babes was supposed to be there. It matched the form of the woman so perfectly 😂
Haha
damn, was not expecting evil king piccolo to make an appearance in rolling thunder
Hehe
hes not even really evil,,,
Whenever Java games are mentioned you got my attention
@@CyprusBeyblade hehe
only +18 bait thumbnails get my attention
The Zook games really skirt the line between bootleg/knockoff and unlicensed clone. Clearly, the character sprites have crossed that line, but some of the other graphics are just distinct enough.
Yep very true
thank you for praising games instead of bashing hard work, we need more positivity for gaming and game devs
I do what I can ^^
I can only upvote this once, so here's a reply as a 10x multiplier.
As a counterargument, it's not much of a compliment that a bootleg has better graphics than (particular official game.) There's a _lot_ of bad games that get official releases, making that a not particularly high bar. I can see comparing _this_ game to _that_ game as useful, but saying _this_ game looks better than _cherrypicked example of badness_ says little.
Is _Batman Beyond_ a particularly bad looking game? I have no idea, and an opinion is not even offered.
Agreed!!!
Meh
Why Bash ANYTHING then ?
There's a certain charm that comes from finding a good bootleg
It's a similar satisfaction I get from finding an obscure movie that no one seems to talk about
Yep completely agreed :D
Actually, Rolling Thunder on the NES isn’t a bootleg. They did release in Japanese Market officially before Tengen talked to Namco about that deal.
I think that was implied when they said 'launched in the west.' The famicom version is also a bit different.
@@PeperonyChease What was the difference between the Japanese version and Tengen version?
It's kinda cool that Piko Interactive have been putting some of these bootlegs on Steam
Yep agreed :D
@@Nirakolov and Qubyte (a Brazilian publisher) is bringing some of those Piko games to the consoles
I actually had the Mig-29 cartridge growing up. It was chrome! I absolutely loved that game. None of my friends had ever heard about it. I don't even remember how I got it, lol. The soundtrack is amazing. I still find myself humming it to this day. Codemasters made some bangers on NES.
It's such a cool game! And yeah that euro-style soundtrack is so good
I still have it
@@invisimine That's great. My family was robbed, then my dad left us, then everything fell apart and everything I ever owned was lost. It taught me a valuable lesson about how little stuff is actually worth. It's just stuff. But hey, happy for you.

@@invisimine Is my Lord and savior. Like I said, material possessions mean practically nothing to me now. It's amazing. All those old games I can carry around in my pocket on a cheap Chinese handheld, so what was really lost? Lol, all is well. My apologies for the macabre reply. Caught me at an odd time. I do have many things now, and I wouldn't miss any of them if they disappeared tomorrow. Family and Jesus are all that matters.
This video is a good reminder of why I'm subscribed to you. The amount of work, research and effort is put into this, I'm impressed.
Hehe thank you:D
I love the attention you give to these really neat games. I feel as though I've been conditioned to snub any kind of bootleg as "just another crummy Chinese knock-off", when the reality is that a lot of these are fans lovingly recreating and reassembling their favourite games without a lot of resources at their disposal.
You've completely shifted my perspective!
You have no idea how much that means to me! :)
47:40 well awesome video man. First time I've seen your Channel definitely going to check out more
Another stellar video! Great channel, man!
Nostalgia kick!!!!! OMG I love Weird Al, so ready for this videooooooooooo!!!!!
Hope you'll enjoy it :D
Cool Video dude love hearing about stuff like this
This is one of my favorite videos that I've ever seen. You have such a wonderful way of expressing how impressive these bootlegs are, and you are specifically the reason for me to keep watching. I've never seen any of these bootlegs, and my man, your energy is perfect. Keep this up bro, you deserve success in this pursuit.
@@funnerfunerals thank you! I try ^^
Excellent episode, these game boy color games are impressive, I will try out
Thanks for the researsh and for share

I've been watching your channel for a long time, but I finally subscribed for this video. This and the previous unlicensed games video are also 2 of only a small handful of videos I've pressed the like button on, so congrats on the good content! 🎉
Haha thank you :D
Whoa! This uses my MIDI "Castle Corridor" theme in Castlevania Reincarnation

great review
Great vídeo as usually, I kind of miss your videos talking about one game though, still I will keep on watching and liking them because your channel is pretty great
Honestly I miss making them too.
Found this channel scrolling, so far I like the Content, even found a few new games to play from a. Few of the vids. Mind you I have to emulate most of them, but still. Thanks
Great video. I am gonna hunt some of those down tonight. Master of Darkness on the Master System is deffo a great Castlevania rip.
Great video, even though you had to mention my repressed childhood nightmare that was trying to land the plane in Top Gun.
Sorry xD
A little fun fact: There is a BOOTLEG version of Brave Battle Saga on the NES.
Also, is kinda funny that I played at least 80% of these bootlegs on the video.
There's also a GBC port of Brave Battle Saga I believe. What good bootleg games would you recommend I cover in the future? I'm alwats on the lookout for more games :D
I like how it's on Steam, personally.

thank you for posting this video...
the only ones I'm really familiar with are Final Fantasy7, Castlevania one and the Queen Fighter 2000.
I was very happy to see Zook Hero, Water Margin and Brave Battle Saga, looking forward to see play these three.
Damn this is a great video. Well done.
Thank you so much :D
Subscribed, this chanel is awesome, it has really good quality and the person has a really good way to explain.
Thank you! :D
Water Margin is totally Knights of the Round!!!!!!!!! LOVE that game!
Loved this video. Having your volume up on future videos would be helpful. A bit hard to hear you at times.
The Zook gameboy advance reaction was hilarious 😂
Another fun video! Always love your content, even if I don't always get to it right away.

I still have that one bootleg Genesis game, brave battle saga, I got way back in the day after watching your video on it and it still remains one of my fave RPGs on the genesis. Thanks for this video St1ka
Glad you enjoyed it :D
35:21 I was looking in your description and I thought that this was going to be like a Bubble Bobble game too bad you can't get enough of those games
Great vid! I love learning about these weird hidden gems. Def wanna try that breath of fire like game. And I'm kinda shocked about that castlevania one.
Hope you enjoy them :)
Ótimo vídeo, St1ka! O conteúdo que você traz sempre vlw a espera.
Muito obrigado! :D
The first thing that popped into my mind was crazy Kong from the arcades. It was Donkey Kong but you played all four stages in a row every time.
your videos always find their way to me when im not even logged in, just cause its the content i like. keep up the good work
haha I'm glad to hear it :D
Buzz & Waldog seems very familiar to MC Kids for NES. That game is a key collecting game too. MC Kids was absolutely inspired by Mario 3 too.
Yeah it definitely gives an MC kids vibe
I saw the bootleg FFVII one at a store and I thought it was a joke. Really cool to see that it is a complete game. A lot of love poured into it for sure
awesome video that lotr stuff was super silly
Man. I would LOVE to see FF7 on the SNES. It would look SO GOOD!!
Hey St1ka, Thanks for another great video! I haven't heard about any of those games, and there are some pretty good games in the list!
In fact, I liked so much your videos that since I first met your youtube channel, I've been watching all your videos by release order. And after watching some of your older videos, I must say you did a great job telling about some of Brazil's videogame history. Considering that you record your videos in english and the fact that our countries histories are intertwined, I guess you're the most qualified person on youtube to understand the context and culture of Brazil, since we have some cultural similarities besides the language we both speak. I also must say I'm pretty surprised by how much similarities our countries share in gaming history and our taste for videogames. And now that I know you're portuguese, maybe I'll start commenting only in portuguese hahaha
Anyway, just wanted to thank and congratulate you for the great work!
Um grande abraço do Brasil!
@@sandroconrado7417 Muito obrigado! Tenho saudades de fazer um video sobre a história do Brasil lol
"Bubble bath babes is not great. . ."
Bro, it's amazing for before the time of easily available internet.
Mal… Malkovitch?! YOU’RE ALIVE?!
I like Zook's "Abadox" type explosion sound.
A trailer with Weird Al? Win, lol
Heck yeah:D
Dats a real cool video😃
Thank you ^^
I remember an earlier video in this series had underperformed, but I was a big fan, since I really like hidden gems. I'm glad you revisited the subject; hopefully this video will do a little better.
Oh I was actually able to turn that video around. But more importantly, thank you for your support ^^
@@st1ka Incidentally, I just noticed a lot of the enemies in MiG-29 are actually aircraft from the United States and western Europe; I'm pretty sure I recognized F-4 Phantom IIs (American), Hawker Siddeley Harriers (British) and Dassault Mirage IIIs (French). Gives a whole new meaning to "Red Team," no?
haha
Can't wait! 💪🏻
Thank you! I hope you'll enjoy it :D
Thank you for your much apreciated love for bootleg stuff
All the "bootleg = bad" reviews were getting boring
Yeah I've gotten really tired of how bootlegs are treated
Bacano! Alguns destes exemplos são autênticas jóias! Continua ☺️
45:28 got to love the 8-Bit sound for this game
These kinds of videos are really nice to watch.
Are you planning maybe one on homebrew games? Homebrew scene - especially on NES - is blooming with all the new Japanese titles, compo productions and more.
@ChipJockey oh I've already made 3 videos on homebrews :D
One for the NES, one for the Gameboy and one for the Mega Drive / Sega Genesis
I will not stand for st1ka disrespecting Hampton J. Pig like that.
Haha
The Game Water Margin did have an official release. It's called Knights of the Round, and it was made by Capcom. Water Margin is just a reskin of that game. You should totally play Knights of the Round. It's one of the most fun arcade hack n slashes ever made.
I'm not gonna lie, when you mentioned Tiny Toon Adventures 6 I legitimately thought it's some funny Chinese/Taiwanese sprite swap. I wouldn't expect it to be an unofficial port of a GameBoy game!
Right?! Even I was shocked the first time I played it
Queen Fighter 2000 was so difficult to find; this was a great list because i like to collect bootlegs to try out, but i have only played QF2000 and FF7. Great video as always 🎉
Thank you! I try :D
Mig 29 reminds me a lot of Raptor Call of the Shadows, which can only be a good thing.
Great vid. Some info on a couple of the carts:
The English Zook shown in this video is one of two releases of the game by Winsen, a very old pirate cart company from back in the day when Vast Fame was still in business. Li Cheng is still around though, and they sell their carts new in box, so they come with manuals and everything. Unfortunately they introduced bugs into some of their releases. The Li Cheng Zook dump is not a bad dump, it just comes from a broken release of the game
Fantastic Battle Simulator on the other hand just has emulator issues. The crashes don't happen on the original cart (I've heard, haven't tried it myself)
Thanks man ^^
Water Margin since it's been re-released is now a licensed game, published by Piko Interactive for the Evercade.
Any licensing for the "original" consoles, is as obsolete as the estates of Homer and Richard Strauss coming after 2001 Space Odyssey.
I like the concept of Evil Stone(6:39). With a little bit of work, I can see this being a successful game on the App Store.
17:03 No, what are you talking about? I immediately recognize Knight of the Round and Warrior of Fate bootleg sprites, those games were pretty popular back then.
So many games I would like to had the chance to play when I was a child
Fun fact: the Konami JRPG series Suikoden is also (VERY loosely) inspired by The Water Margin!
lmao. I had that exact same TinyToon game. I didn't even realize it was a bootleg😂
The song was enough to win me over
Hehe thank you ^^
Ever since I have watched VInesauce and Rerez covering bootleg/unofficial games and consoles, they do have a well deserved stigma for being knockoff products in hopes that some fool will give them money. This ideology still stands to this day with countries that have little to no copyright laws enacting or affecting them. Case in point, Zook, Fire Emblem, and Castlevania
What I do end up seeing here is definitely an improvement of that stigma; an unofficial port of Tiny Toons that is able to compete with the real product, an ambitious shoot 'em up that went under the radar, an original arcade game, and an unofficial demake of FF7. Those things take skill, and some of them might be even made for love, like the demake. You rarely can say that about unofficial games with less budget than Action 52.
For once I like seeing that positive side of this (and heck, I did not even know it existed). I'm already planning on adding some of these to my collection. Gread video!
So happy that the Swedish baker from Family Guy is making A+ UA-cam content.
2:00 I have never heard of this game and it sounds freaking dope kind of wish there was some way I could play this on the PS5 I'm also curious if they made more
Man this is one of my fave channels. Where do you find the tine to play all these games?
My life is basically just my day job and youtube 😅
Interestingly, Langrisser I was the only game released into the U.S. by Japan. It was renamed Warsong and was distributed by Treco for the Sega Genesis. Langrisser II came out for the Japanese Sega. If you download the ROM, there is a patch that translates everything to English. The second game plays like the first but has more things to do.
I wonder what you would consider Final Fight LNS Ultimate to be. It is basically a fan-made Final Fight at its core, but has a LOT added to it.
All of Hummer Team's NES games are fantastic. Their fighting engine is top notch, perfected at Street Fighter 3 (often called Super Fighter 3), SF2 demake. They also ported Lion King, Aladdin and Earthworm Jim from the snes to the NES, with very playable results
Hummer team deserved better
Bubble Bath Babes actually got a censored reskin as "Mermaids of Atlantis" which *was* licensed for sale by Nintendo.
That's pretty hilarious haha
sheesh. why even bother
"Brave Battle Saga" is a great game, I played it to the end, it's a quality, full-fledged and very long JRPG on SEGA. I had a cartridge when I was a kid, but it was probably defective, it had a battery slot, and I changed the battery, but the save still didn't work, and this version was also called "Final Fantasy" (probably the pirates decided that with such a name the game would be easier to sell). But recently I managed to play this game from start to finish on an emulator =)
St1ka never disappoints with the thumbnails
haha thanky ou
Nifty assortment---interesting to think about which genres tend to see the most action and how liable efforts are to exceed expectations depending.
very true! :D
Weird, I have Brave Battle Saga on Steam, had no idea it was a bootleg!
That's a good sign of how well made it is :D
I'm not sure if this was mentioned in the comments, but some of the music used in Brave Battle Saga was also used for some stages in Top Fighter 2000! Guess that means the games were made by the same company, I assume.
Played the improved version of the FF7 demake last month and it's pretty good! The biggest problem is you see the same enemies throughout the whole game. Doesn't matter if you're in the Northern Creator or first Mako reactor. It's an FF3 Romhack btw :]
How would Zook not be awesome when it combined Mega Man and Robocop? The second game looks cool too. It's like Super Mario Word mixed with Adventure Island.
Thanks for digging through the bizarre world of questionably sourced games.
I try my best xD
Dang, I think I might actually check out water margin. That looks really solid.
@@WrestlingWithGaming it's a really fun game imo :D
WAIT WAIT WAIT! That portrait isnt Barret Wallace, that's Bian Zoldark from Super Robot Wars!
12:24 Tiny Toon 6. I remember a Tiny Toons game but I did not know they made six of them. I believe I played it either on a Sega or Super Nintendo
43:22 LOL somehow I have Mortal Kombat 1 2 and 3 on the NES I have no idea how I acquired them
This video was great. I obtained most of the GBC games only to discover they need a special emulator in most cases. You can't drag/drop to FPGA cores or most portable emulators and expect them to work.
Sorry! Yeah bootleg GBC emulation is still in its infancy in many ways :/
that Buzz and Waldog game also looks like it was took some Bonks adventure gameplay.
The Water Margin game gives off Knights of the Round/King of Dragons Beat 'em UP vibes with how the enemies look too
Now I REALLY want to play Brave Battle Saga as well...
If you do, I hope you'll enjoy them :D
Nice list! but you also should have put super lion king by super game and hummer teams aladdin on here. Those are bootlegs everyone calls better then the official nes releases, even the bootleg games wiki too
We used to play a nes game called dead fox that was similar to rolling thunder. Afterwards we saw a bit of rolling thunder on a gaming tv show and were really curious about it.
Waiting for it.
Hope you'll enjoy it :D
is that map encounters on Brave Battle Saga rather than the standard for the time Random Encounters? that's sick, I much prefer that system and Chrono Trigger is one of the early big rpgs that did that. so cool to see a bootleg even adopt this design choice even if it was going for Final Fantasy vibes.
Yep, it's using a Chrono Trigger style of encounters.
I don't know if you've covered it already but Hyper Pacman is another good bootleg arcade game. It plays like standard Pac-Man but there's power ups for speeding up, jumping like Pac-Mania, shields and lasers like Raimais, there's boss fights like Raimais, the music's good, it's a bit easy and short at only 30 levels and 3 bosses but it's pretty fun.
I definitely hope to cover Hyper Pacman in the future.
