I have a shadar-kai wild magic barb.....first d&d campaign don't judge me 😅. Our party needed someone tanky so I bit the bullet, I am not optimized by any means, but I am having fun with it. The short of my backstory is I come from a family who is gifted with magic and constantly am trying to prove myself to my family. I always was good with blunt force but want to prove myself with magic, hence the wild magic aspect.
In an upcoming campaign I’m playing a Witch Knight of the Raven Queen. He’s basically a Shadar Kai Paladin mixed with a hex-blade warlock. The nice thing about the Raven Queen is because she’s technically both a god and not a god she can be both a hex blade patron and a Paladin’s deity. Anyway, I’m excited to test it out.
Inspired by Alucard, and Blade, my first DnD campaign is a Shadar-Kai Ranger: Monster Slayer. This race is the closest thing my DM allows me to play as a Dhampir, Vampire hunter =))))
Im making a shadar kai for my new campaign. I always found the raven queen one of the cooler deities so wanted to make a character who was tied to her. They are going to be a hex blade warlock and phantom rogue. (Collecting souls for the raven queen) Only thing is i want to flesh out the character a bit more and realized i only rlly knew they where tied to the raven queen.
My first ever character is a half shadar-kai half goliath ranger. So much lore to try an weave together between the two races. The idea of resurrection interests me, and I wonder how it would play out if my character were to die. Would the raven queen revive me? who knows.
Always loves this race and finally had a chance to play one now. let me say, I don't ever play edgy characters and this is one trying to move beyond it, even though she went through parental abuse (she understands that part of that was her father had a bad encounter with a god that broke his mind). So, yes, she is dark and a bit edgy, but trying to move through that is an interesting character to play..
Edgy done right can make for a very interesting character, unfortunately, it is very easy to play edgy very wrong. So long as everyone remembers it is a team game and to work as a team, edgy characters can be awesome! Of course, a lot of edgy characters can feel like a pizza slicer (all edge, no point). Good luck with your character! Sounds like a good RP challenge.
I found Shadar-Kai by chance when building my homebrew subdomain "Shadowfall domain". Spitballing ideas with ChatGPT and found this race and now its my absolute favorite. Abit annoyed by the different backstories and whatnot surrounding Shadowfall and Shadar-kai but still cool.
It is a bit annoying that the editions don't agree, but it does give players/GMs the freedom to pick which one they like the best... so there is that small benefit I suppose (I personally like 4e's version where they lust for life, but do really like 3e's take on how they have to hold onto their souls or they risk the Plane of Shadows gaining more and more of their soul)

I have a Shadar-kai zealot barb, its a lot of fun.
Oh, I am a Rogue/Fighter and the Shadar Kai really helps with both sides, can help skills and tanky. Loving this character
Such an awesome race. Just decided to roll a Shadar Kai rogue assassin.

Sounds like a pretty good mix there - you'll be dragging a few more souls to the Shadowfell to keep the Raven Queen busy
Hex blade plus paladin smite is so cool. Oath of vengeance paladin works well for flavor too
4:05 That's the edgiest device for not losing your soul for the edgiest race. 😂
Thanks for making this. Im running a campaign in the Shadowfell rn and googling around about these guys keep coming up with different info
Glad it can help! Good luck on your campaign!

Make sure you check out our video on the Raven Queen! Lots of information about her different versions and how she got to power.

why is there a huge amount of sentences that are exactly the same in reddit?

She gets pretty bad press from those, good masses for trying to break up a fight.
Who created bladesinging? What a terrible display of jealousy and egotism...
Im pretty sure the fiend folio described them covered in scarafaction cuts. L
Think like hellraiser.
Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be pulling out my old and worn Fiend Folio to check it out
