MrRhexx is starting to talk about the Dwarves now. Now we're talking lad! Been waiting a couple of years for you to make a series about the Dwarves like what you did for the Elves. Looking forward to the other videos!
I know, these videos are legit. They're both fascinating pass-times and world-kindling inspiration for campaigns. I owe most of the world my party plays in to MrRhexx
I'm glad the dwarves are getting their videos after the elves got theirs awhile back. As a fan of dwarves and character ideas for playable races, these videos are nice to see.
Oh, i thought you were going to talk about the smuggling and other criminal activity. The underworld of the underworld if you like. I think one of the big underground crime syndicates is the shieldeater clan or something like that. They have a bunch of connections with other organizations and usually act as the middle-man in a lot of smuggling operations, as they can completely bypass laws, tolls, and taxes that come from transporting goods over the surface and deposit said goods in dead drops located just outside or directly inside the target location. They're also basically untouchable since it's next to impossible to catch them with anything illegal.
I DM for a rather large group with two Dwarves in it. A Succubus wanted to seduce (charm person) one of them (a vengance Paladin) and he suceeded in his wisdom save. never played one???? wow, not sure how you pulled that off. but it is so worth it, i may have one character in all my years of playing that i would put above my Dwarf Cleric for sheer enjoyment of playing. getting to be the grumpy curmudgeon of the group (even though that still makes him one of the happiest dwarves that anyone has ever seen) who is also the lynch pin of just about any encounter is a great way to spend a campaign. mind you, this is made SIGNIFICANTLY better if your DM despises dwarves on a personal level and every little bit of success you have throws him into a new level of existential crisis.
Note on Faerun Dwarves: They were gifted by the Gods with the Thunder Blessing; Causing many Dwarven Twins to be born, increasing their population greatly... this has caused the Dwarves of Faerun to turn the tide on their decline.
Sauce? Anyway feels kinda weird this part of the lore, but it could be weirder. For instance there could be a third sex, which is "infertile male" or "drone" which is all the dwarves who would have been female or are infertile male. But then there is no reason for the otherwise female dwarves to be infertile. So I was thinking that what this actually could be modified to is that most of the dwarves ARE fertile but not 100% of the time. Like some special stuff needs to happen/be present for them to be able to sire children and this changes from dwarf to dwarf. Meaning that it can completely look like they are infertile, because if you can't have a kid until you are 150, then for multiple human generations you were infertile. But then you have 20 years in which you can have kids, but maybe in those years you can't get a mate. So you end up without children. And even those, who let'S say had arranged marriage, who are almost certain to be able to sire a baby or two, will not have too many offspring and the time between offspring ramains huge which means the dwarves don't stress their living space. And this also means that they can get into decline. And having a blessing for twins is even better. I might also use the having twins in my campaign.

Re: Dwarven fertility. I could of sworn this was addressed in the old 3.5 days, Moradin himself interceded and lifted this blight of infertility that was plaguing the dwarfs. When and why was this rescinded?
Yeah, it's called the Thunder Blessing. According to the wiki, Moradin reunited with the other dwarven gods and decided to do something about the low fertility rates of dwarves, they then decided to split each existing soul into two when they were to reincarnate, making it so that most dwarven births after 1306 DR were of twins.
With the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 I jumped back down the forgotten realms rabbit hole, and this channel has been my bible in recent weeks, love these videos
A Dwarf and an Asari happen to meet one day. It was love at first sight. After several awkward but enjoyable dates, they decide to seal the deal and move in together. After several month of trying, they discovered that they would have a child, much to their delight. The next few were filled with parenting class, baby proofing their home, and, of course, shopping. They bought generic clothing that could fit any child because they both decided to keep the baby's identity a secret until the day of the child's birth. However, in the back of their minds, both were firmly convinced that the child would resemble their respective races. The day came and they rushed to the hospital for the baby was due. It took a few hours with a few close calls but the doctors asked for one last push. With a last exhausted effort, the baby arrived. Both Asari and Dwarf were thrilled and waited for the swaddled bundle to be handed over to them so that they could finally see their child. What they did not expect was the rising silence that came from the doctors as they held their bundle of joy, which was unusually silent. The parents cracked through the silence and demanded they see their child. The reluctant doctors nodded and handed over the blanket wrapped bundle. The Asari and Dwarf took the small bundle and slowly unwraped it, waiting for who may be underneath. They kept unwrapping but no child appeared. After more furious unfurling, the blanket was completely undone and no child was there. Instead, there was a note. It read: _Dear Parents,_ _This is too much pressure too soon. How do you expect me to choose when I haven't even taken my first breath? This is ridiculous, I'm out! Have a good life._ _-The Baby_ The Dwarf and Asari were stunned. They looked to the doctors for an answer. One of the doctors awkwardly shuffled closer and, while avoiding their gaze, hands them an invoice for services rendered.
This was a great video. Also, 1 in 5 dwarves are born as twins because of the Thunder Blessing in 1306. Moradin increased the birthrate of all dwarves apart from Duergar.
You mention the results of dwarven crossbreeding which as far as I remember only applies to the FR. But you ignore Moradin's blessing which resulted in more twin birth amongst dwarves (also from the FR setting).
Actually @MrRhexx , In the forgotten realms novels about Dritz, it was more recently revealed that the strictness on female dwarf clergy members seems to be getting lighter or lifted all together. Or at least in the case of Mithral Hall it was.
That's why I wanted to be very explicit about the fact that most of this lore is for isolated dwarven communities. If i remember right, the number for those was 93% of clergy for male dwarven gods were male dwarves. But yeah all these traditions deteriorate the less they isolate, which is probably the case for many of the shield dwarves up north.

Things that are game breaking for Dwarves darkvision , and they cannot become lost as long as no body of water separates anywhere they have been previously.
120 feet of darkvision might be overkill, but darkvision (60 ft) isn't too game breaking. I honestly believe that too many races do have darkvision now. Low-light vision should be brought back (imo).
@@shaneturnes6458 as someone who couldn't stand the low light addition. I hope they don't. All my underground races have heatvision. Cuz 90% of the novels I read and DnD I played had that. 😉.
Nice job on the PDFs I remember back when I adapted "Gargoyles" to the "White Wolf" RPG world, inspired partly by the 90's cartoon. Did ghosts as well, but then they released "Wraith: The Ascension"
23:55 that image of the Dwarven Statue funneling lava from the hammer into the forge or shrine is creative as hell. I want to know if there's any lore about that place specifically. If there isn't, there definitely can be.
So I go on break. I'm mindlessly scrolling through my main UA-cam suggestions trying to find something to watch. I'm too tired to really decide what I want to watch right now. So I felt kinda stuck. But this is exactly what I didn't know I was looking for. Absolutely love when he uploads.

Definitely getting that PDF, I just spoke to my friends about how I want to run oneshots that allow Large and Huge PCs, even demigods and gods sometimes. Even if dragons aren't included in your PDFs yet, I'd love to see your thought process for playable monsters to help me make dragons playable. *Also, I've been needing a solution for dwarven fertility in my post-multiverse post-apocalypse homebrew setting, where Moradin is imprisoned and yet the dwarves are renewing. Thanks!*
Super excited to buy your new material Mr. Rhexx. I've almost finished converting your "What they don't tell you about dragon hoards" to a fantasy grounds module. And when that's done this is next!
I love the monster classes so thank you for bringing them to 5th edition. I might actually try the edition now and I will absolutely be buying all of the PDFs that you make for them.
I once had an idea of making it that a common genre of Dwarvish Love Poetry is writing it in the form of instruction to another on how one should treat a SO, using one's own effection as an example. a common opening is along the lines of "Oh, my future son, child of the one I love, here is how to cherish your love..."
Please make a video series like this for gnomes. I’m very close to writing them out of existence in my homebrew world because they are unique in my mind.
I remember in third edition the forgotten realms had a "thunder twins" birth event for the dwarves. To replenish their numbers. But in the forgotten realms old lore both dwarves and elves were in decline or retreat (much like Tolkien). Recently they're both retaking ground which lore wise is a real problem for humans. Of course forgotten realms or even d&d aren't what they once were... the problem with no longer being forgotten. At least there are gnomes... my gnomies will keep it real and stay hidden... and they're mainstream 🙄 damn! Well at least there are evil drow... forever murdering and slaving... and the evil ones are actually a minority... damn! I quit.
A dwarf series, verry much apriciated. Unlike some monsters that I have no way of using for a long time, this series will be verry usefull in almost any setting. Sa as usual great work, keep at it.
Dwarves like elfs are unique in so many different fantasy worlds that in many D&D runs you can experience many different types. I base mine more on Dragon Age. My DM stayed closer LOTR. But mixing traits from those and The Forgotten Relms I think could be best
Fun fact. Mules aren't sterile, but if you get a female mule to mate with a male horse, her child will be a normal horse. If the mule is male, then you have to mate him with a female donkey and you get... A normal donkey. The half dwarf mating with a normal dwarf reminded me of this.
I like this; it was a lot of fun, and a nice chance to look at a people who might less frequently get a deep dive examination. Sort of like with Tolkien, lots of people jump at the chance to cover elves, and we likely are all human, so we know something about them, but dwarves, even being "the other" common nonhuman choice, don't often get the love of examination. I particularly look forward to the video discussing their magical tendencies, which will hopefully go into their dislike of Wizards. Sadly, while I do appreciate this series, already, and I do feel elves get more attention, I might very much hope you eventually do a similar breakdown on them, and the drow, beyond "this is what the Monster Manual tells us..."; it can be fun to say "this is what they are like", as how your world depicts them in encounters, but they can be a bit different when you actually want to play one, and I'd enjoy that alot, as elves are my favorite FRCS race, and I've recently gotten way more attached to drow than i probably like to be. Looking forward to the next one! Maybe one will even touch on my favorite dwarves; the Urdunnir.
you know thinking about the advertisement at the start of the video i kind of wonder how many succubi are trying to get into the feywild for the insanely easy gathering of satyr souls
I’m familiar with some of the D&D lore thanks to the dragon lance books, but I greatly enjoy the lore content here and look forward to each one! Been binge watching older vids and remembered the Elder Brain lore was missing or unlisted :( Someday I’ll try playing D&D again and reference all the stuff I learned here!

I got the PDF for Monster Classes 1. It looks great, no doubt features your thoroughness and attention to historical detail, and I feel I owe you at least this much from all the videos of yours that I have watched. Great work!
Man, I have so little interest in Dwarves, but every video you do makes whatever you're covering sound like the coolest most interesting thing.
I've always liked dwarves and the lore surrounding them. That said the only game that I've ever played as a dwarf was Icewindale where I really enjoyed creating an entire dwarven party.
Grim mystery mixed with sadness and pride. Yeah thats a Scotsman.
Oh man, recognizing the characters in that art, I read the title and was like, "The dark secret of the dwarves -- AN INTERRACIAL BABY!"
Things that are game breaking for Dwarves darkvision , and they cannot become lost as long as no body of water separates anywhere they have been previously.
How is dark vision game breaking?
120 feet of darkvision might be overkill, but darkvision (60 ft) isn't too game breaking. I honestly believe that too many races do have darkvision now. Low-light vision should be brought back (imo).
darkvision isn't anywhere as good as normal vision
@@shaneturnes6458 as someone who couldn't stand the low light addition. I hope they don't. All my underground races have heatvision. Cuz 90% of the novels I read and DnD I played had that. 😉.
Nice job on the PDFs
I remember back when I adapted "Gargoyles" to the "White Wolf" RPG world, inspired partly by the 90's cartoon. Did ghosts as well, but then they released "Wraith: The Ascension"
Very excited to learn more about the dwarves. They're a classic, classic fantasy race and definitely super interesting.
23:55 that image of the Dwarven Statue funneling lava from the hammer into the forge or shrine is creative as hell. I want to know if there's any lore about that place specifically. If there isn't, there definitely can be.
Deva sounds like such an amazing class for a roll play heavy campaign.
Great video Rhexx but when you gonna talk about the dwarves true feelings towards "tossing"
I am going to explain in painful detail, through a 7 video essay, why it is completely unacceptable and you should never, in fact, toss a dwarf.
So I go on break. I'm mindlessly scrolling through my main UA-cam suggestions trying to find something to watch. I'm too tired to really decide what I want to watch right now. So I felt kinda stuck. But this is exactly what I didn't know I was looking for. Absolutely love when he uploads.
This is absolutely perfect timing, i just made a dwarf for my next campaign and wanted to know what videos you had done on them.
Love your work dude
A series of videos about my favourite D&D race! I am following the channel for some years now, but I never have wanted a subject covered as much as this.
I am so hyped!
That cover for Monster Classes I is banging dude! Sure, she may want to eat my tasty, tasty soul; what a way to go! Good on ya. 👍🏽
Great stuff! Seems like dwarves get the short end of the player stick so I am happy to learn more because I like playing them.
It's been such a joy and experience to watch you explode with growth!
I enjoyed all of your videos and they kept me sane during quarantine, so seeing you and all of the other people D&D people find success has been amazing.
Keep up the wonderful work!
Thanks!*
Just wanted to note, the illustrations on the PDF seem superb.
The Doom of the Dwarves adds a whole new layer to Bruenor Battlehammer's tendency to adopt humans
I have no other way to say this but... YOU'RE THE BEST D&D LORE CHANEL I EVER FOUND!
me on my way to single handedly save the dwarf race. 12:10
"Rock" and stone brother!
"Dwarves are small humanoid creatures with 2 legs, 2 arms, a beard and a helmet"
That's the description I once heard and it's still making me laugh!
20:12 the third is to promote temperance.
YEEESSS!!!!! At last!
I love dwarves! Thank you very much. 😃
Thank you for doing a deep dive into the Dwarven Race! A long-time fan of both yours and Dwarves!
Super excited to buy your new material Mr. Rhexx. I've almost finished converting your "What they don't tell you about dragon hoards" to a fantasy grounds module. And when that's done this is next!
I'm super excited you doing dwarf videos. They deserve the love and I love watching them
That was an awesome one, well done.
I personally have a old dwarf character that was not far from all that.
I absolutely love all your content! Thank you, and you spark my creativity to higher amounts with your videos!.
Oh, and congratulations on your new PDF. I'm very excited to get both
I love the monster classes so thank you for bringing them to 5th edition. I might actually try the edition now and I will absolutely be buying all of the PDFs that you make for them.
There is a good chunk of dwarven lore on music and beards in the Harpers series Elfsong novel.
I'm so pumped. They've always been my favorite. Races of Stone was a great 3.5 book. Thank you for this series! :DDD
16:54 oooh! That's a fancy transition!
20:58 That is the most adorable dwarf I've ever seen
Thanks! Always wondered at the lack of half-dwarfs.
I just started playing D&D recently, but once I get more into it I'll make sure to get the pdf, Looks* amazing!
Please please do comprehensive videos about Dwarves like you did for the Elves!
Great vid! I played D&D and didn't know nearly this much about dwarves!
Your new book sounds awesome
Babe wake up! New MrRhexx lore video dropped
Well at least there are evil drow... forever murdering and slaving... and the evil ones are actually a minority... damn!
I quit.
And that's why l hate 5E. :)
Revealing dwarf secrets ? oh you better believe thats a grudging.
FINALLY!
The long wait is over, my favorite race gets covered by the legendary MrRhexx!
WOOHOO MR RHEXX VIDEO DROPPED
What an interesting video, Dwarves are fascinating and I'm looking forward to the next videos of the series.
A half dwarf interesting to make one though there isn't much of a difference in stats. Best start brewing up ideas
A dwarf series, verry much apriciated. Unlike some monsters that I have no way of using for a long time, this series will be verry usefull in almost any setting. Sa as usual great work, keep at it.
Neat PDF, the Ghost class sounds very interesting, and I'm probably going to try to implement it into something in the future.
I am over the moon about you doing a dwarf series. Thank you.
So glad you are doing videos on Dwarves!
Your videos are always a treat to watch but I really wish you made them more often, like once a week.
Mr. Rhexx: They are described as having the breadth and depth of creatures nearly twice their height, but what does that even mean? Basically, they are incredibly-
Me: Thicc.
Mr. Rhexx: Muscular.
(More seriously, the playable monster thing looks incredibly cool! If you decide to add more down the line, for what it's worth I'd be unbelievably interested in a playable Salamander. Your video on them was awesome and really made me think!)
The artist you hired did such a great job
This is great. The monster videos are neat, but these help me be a better roleplayer!
My favorite race, always fun to create a dwarf character.
Edit:
Last one I made was a dwarven bard blasting windy rose's mine mine mine song.
XD
i cant wait until you get to halflings !!! great video man !!!
