4e Tiefling is easily the best version
I have to agree on that one, at least for the lore and mechanical options - though I have a soft spot for the 2e art of Tieflings. Tony DiTerlizzi is one of my favorite artists for D&D
One of the most underrated and undiscovered channels ever.
It’s 75 ft tall and 50 ft long. Honestly yea that’s scary but idk how tf it destroys NATIONS. Makes no sense. It’s just basically a really really big monster and nothing else really.
People have terrible building codes and it can knock them down by just stepping near them? More seriously, maybe if it had a thunder/sonic based breath weapon where it could blast buildings into rubble, itd make more sense. (then again, 5e just isnt that powerful despite being CR 30)
Nice work on the video!
Personally my favorite demon lord is the guy who sells the Scooby Doo doors Fraz-Urb'luu, but Orcus is pretty neat as well.
tt
indulg
Racist eyes? That is your own bigotry showing. So done watching you.
Inspired by Alucard, and Blade, my first DnD campaign is a Shadar-Kai Ranger: Monster Slayer. This race is the closest thing my DM allows me to play as a Dhampir, Vampire hunter =))))
Maglubiyet, like Gruumsh and the other evil-humanoid-type boss gods, go back to 1st edition. They were introduced in "Deities & Demigods", and expanded upon at the end of a series of Dragon Magazine articles on various races' pantheons.
Came here after found/ finished "Ring of Winter " and now I'm like wtf the book didn't describe them as Cat People at all.
Huh - I just looked into it, and the Tabaxi in The Ring of Winter book are actually a tribe of Humans who specifically named themselves after actual Tabaxi (cat folk). Seems like a retcon for the author mistakenly naming the tribe of humans Tabaxi rather then they meant to be purposefully confusing. With Tabaxi first being introduced 11 years earlier in 1981, you'd hope an editor would've caught that mistake.
@@DumpStat Thanks
Do you have more information on the seasonal courts (summer spring fall and winter )
Sadly, no official source. The books don't really spend much time on the courts themselves. That said, I've heard great things about the Dresden series and how much fey stuff in there.
@@DumpStat I’ll have to look into that. My friend recommended the 4e manual of the planes tho I haven’t been able to find it.
I dont think the Manuel of the Planes has much specifically on the courts. I think the book that has the most, and it isnt much, is the Heroes of the Feywild (but it isnt much)
@@DumpStat ah ok
I model my hobgoblin society from the edo period of Japan. Taking into stock the utter fragility of life and the heavy burden of duty and personal honor. Coupled with a law system That penalizes with only two possible outcomes, death or slavery.
I didn't go that far, but in my homebrew campaign, hobgoblins were the original inventors of the monk character class. In my campaign, most hobgoblins literally worship weapons, but a breakaway faction of hobgoblins who rejected that belief system developed methods of fighting bare-handed or with repurposed tools (= monk weapons), believing that conventional weapons would only turn on them for their apostasy if wielded.
Nice page hope it grows
My first ever character is a half shadar-kai half goliath ranger. So much lore to try an weave together between the two races. The idea of resurrection interests me, and I wonder how it would play out if my character were to die. Would the raven queen revive me? who knows.
Good video! It’s sad that few GMs understand how to utilize these classic monsters in a game setting- in myth, these creatures were a true horror! Now, they are just another fighter cannon fodder if used at all.
My last DnD character was a Fey Vampire (mechanically, a human Dhampir). He was the only one in the party with any affection for the Fey Wild. The rest of the party was utterly traumatized by it
Don't forget the Fiend Folio
Great job thank you !
So, a Tarrasque is basically a French kaiju 😅
Scrap the whole "aboleths using magic" nonsense and replace the magic with psychic powers.
Im making a shadar kai for my new campaign. I always found the raven queen one of the cooler deities so wanted to make a character who was tied to her. They are going to be a hex blade warlock and phantom rogue. (Collecting souls for the raven queen) Only thing is i want to flesh out the character a bit more and realized i only rlly knew they where tied to the raven queen.
Make sure you check out our video on the Raven Queen! Lots of information about her different versions and how she got to power.
excellent vid (& your voice isn’t a problem , monotone is a problem)
23:55 battletoads campaign
Basically the humans of the monster world
They get +1 to intelligence and know how to boss around goblins and bugbears - which are really. Part of the same race
Aren’t you such a silly billy. It's troll bones that you need, not ghoul bones. Ghoul bones are a potent ingredient in potions of vitality.
I'll never be an alchemist at this point!
@@DumpStat keep trying. Practice makes perfect. My first potion evaporated into thin air, but by not giving up, I grew to the grand alchemist I am today. So long as you keep trying, one day, you'll be turning lead to gold.
The Forgotten Realms wiki has different information. Ex - King Bres instead of King Thrumbolg. And the Court of Stars is ruled by Queen Morwen of the Eldarian, not Titania (Queen of the Seelie Fey, Summer Court). Is your information strictly for 4e D&D?
Its not strictly 4th edition, but 4th edition does have more (setting agnostic) information (and created the Feywild). I dont typically look at the Forgotten Realms unless it is the only source on the matter (because not everyone runs in the Forgotten Realms). I dont know what sources the wiki is using for that, but this was also oeiginally written several years ago before 5e had much information available.
In the 3.5 fiendish folio it actually reveals that Gith, the greatest rebel of all was a prisoner of Dis. A trophy. It is hinted but not explained if it was a trade, deal, gift, or betrayal. Probably related to the deal made with Tiamat.
There is a great north glacier ice wastes variant that is covered with dense wool. It was wooly, yes, it was woolly, wooly bullette.
"This marks the lowest point for our flumphs." 4E was kind of the lowest point for most things D&D.
I now want to make a vampire go out and make friends with these sad monsters. Build an army of "friends" and set them on his enemy’s when he retturns from the shadowfell.
Creepy three eye fish will frondle you with its Feeley fronds.
SWEET LIBERTY, I KNEW IT!!! 💀 THE TERMINIDS HAVE INVADED THIS GAME AS WELL!! FOR DEMOCRACYYYYYY!!!!! ⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️
I play a grave domain cleric and my deity is the Raven Queen. i love her so much!
God bless you... Yeshua
Fantastic video with awesome visuals! I really like how the visuals include their source too. That's something I'm usually left wishing i could find out.
Glad you enjoyed it! The planes have a very special place in my heart. As for the art, Im glad providing a source can help. I too am annoyed when people just grab things from the internet and use it without sharing where they found it or who did it. We dont own the art, so it only makes sense to share where we got it and give credit (when we can) to the original artists who made it possible.
She gets pretty bad press from those, good masses for trying to break up a fight.
Who created bladesinging? What a terrible display of jealousy and egotism...
In the Fifth Edition, I like the way Orcus has become the conceptual embodiment of Despondency, sloth and despair. He hates life because it's noisy and full of pain. He hates the gods, because they maintain the existence of this life and force the living to undergo trials. He takes advantage of the despair of people whose loved ones were not resurrected according to some "higher principles" incomprehensible to mortals. On top of that, he's also lazy and fat. Seriously. In general, he became very interesting precisely when he was made more philosophical, as befits a being from the Outer Planes. One of the few things 5e did right.
This is awesome! Thank you
I love all dump stats videos!
What exactly is the raven queen ideology? I can find some simple tenets online but it seems as she supports natural death and objects interference to it while still reviving shadar kai for her own means.
why is there a huge amount of sentences that are exactly the same in reddit?
Because we originally wrote this for our blog (which we then posted to reddit), and then decided to create a video for it to try and reach as many people as possible.
Well done!
What happens when they run afoul of the mindflayers??? AWESOME ❤
was enjoying the video till I noticed you use AI generated art. gross.
The majority of the art in the video is from books and they cite them in the bottom left. Also this is good use of AI art. The channel and video isn't big enough for the creator to commission art so there is not loss to anyone. The creator just gets to enhance their video.
I love the font you use in your thumb nails, can you tell you tell me what it's called?
@@freddykoehlmann9931 no such thing as good use of AI. Bad for the climate Steals from artists Lazy
4:05 That's the edgiest device for not losing your soul for the edgiest race. 😂
Githzerai and mindflayers never teamed up??? Idk where you got that, but from what I’ve read all three are at war but githyanki and githzerai will team up if they end up fighting the same ghaik, mind flayers, otherwise they till fight each other. Bot gith factions hate ghaik but one is more determined on the war effort where their society has broken down into a war culture based on endless warfare with the ghaik till extinction.
I came across your channel by pure chance (salute to the dark lord of the algorithm). I chose to introduce the Raven Queen into my Greyhawk setting. For what? I’m a nerd about mythologies and religions. Some Greyhawk gods were created with tongue in cheek. (Pholtus and St Cuthbert), but they’re explainable. It’s the behavior of the faithful that amuses. Nerull wasn’t explainable, death considered evil is a modern concept. Utterly evil god of death isn't found in any mythology (if you have found one, please tell me). All death gods have positive domains. We cannot find in all mythologies an evil death god. So Nerull in Greyhawk was irksome. However with the 4th edition of Raven Queen my problem was solved and the gothic Shadar-Kai are cool! A consistent death deity is neutral, feared but neutral. I want to add that freeing souls don’t infer that they’re eaten or destroyed…
I believe in 4e, it is referenced that souls are destroyed when used as power (why some deities were very against it). But also, in 2e's placescape - souls would be "absorbed" when a petitioner became filly aligned with the plane and, while no one really knew what happened, it was theorized that the soul became part of the plane and its energy. Perhaps thats the same thing as being freed as well, but you are forcing souls to be matched into alignment of the diety or plane
Exacly the level of research i was looking for! Thank you very much.
Glad we could help! If you want more fey (and who doesn't) you can also check out our blog on Exploring the Fey Plane which dives more into traveling, living, and magic dumpstatadventures.com/the-gm-is-always-right/exploring-the-fey-plane
Yeah, a really good and well researched video. I've looked at a lot lately, and while non (this one included) includes all the ideas and concepts that I think belongs in the feywild (both in official lore and thematically) you can definitely see who have gone the extra mile. And this video has. I can also mention a few others that's worth looking at that covers things not here. Usually more thematic stuff then lore, although occasionally there's little bits of lore that they have that's not here too. But there's very little of that (lore) missing here that I can see.
Great dive. Always enjoy your content.
