Except in California, where the government will just pocket the difference and leave the price high. And, where is all that money going? To their money-pit high speed rail line to nowhere?
I don’t have an issue with BMW, Mercedes or any luxury vehicle being problematic because they are made for wealthy people that should be able to afford the maintenance. My issue is with cars that are made for regular people that aren’t reliable. That’s just not right.
@hijazzains i have had 2 Mercedes 2014 and 2016. Had Porsches 2002, 2010, now have a Porsche 718, 2018. Major issues only in one of the Porsches i owned. That was more down to a lack of maintenance. Cars now are more technologically advanced with performance parts. Sensors, Lane assists, Cameras. Wifi. Bluetooth. Fuel efficiency. Can't mistake glitches with quality. If you go for something with no new tech, you will find that you will get a "reliable" car by 80s standards :)
My husband had a Mercedes and talk about a money pit! I’ll stick with Lexus. I find used Lexus RX350’s cost about the same to repair as the Camrys I’ve owned and are very reliable.
I'm teaching myself how to work on my own Benz, becuse every little thing if'n I took it to a repair person, costs would be astronomical. Major things take it in. I've probably saved $2,000 thereabouts this past summer for parts which cost $300. $200/ hr shop cost, and the person doing the work gets 10% of that, ain't right either. And years ago when speaking with my mech at Nissan he informed me that even though his experience allows him to complete a job in 30 minutes, if'n their internal repair manual indicates that the job should take 1 1/2 hour, he still has to charge that 1 1/2 labour charge, which rounds to 2 hours. Scam and a Hustle...😎
I love my E46 bmw, 6-cylinder in line, no turbo. After my first $300 oil change at the dealer I bought a Bentley service manual and do my own servicing. I've replaced a lot of the plastic crap that fails, ahead of time. There's a whole community a fanatics that can tell you what to watch out for and how to fix it. 25 years and going strong. I'm a happy amateur mechanic.
My wife has a 25 year ole Corolla she drives most days, with 171,000 miles on clock.....never gives problems. Now at 25 years old,it will fetch around €1000 if she were to sell it,here in Ireland!
My corolla is 29 yrs, still up and running at 200, 000 miles. Low maintenance. Bought a rav4 for my retirement. 20,000 miles for 10 years. Practical cars.
Mine is a 1999 too. 178K on it now, I bought it with 151K for $1000 about 2 years ago. But I did put $1800 on new front wheel bearings and one small linkage underneath the car. And then $500 for a new radiator but for $3300 total it's still worth it because I drive it as much as my payment SUV. It saves a lot of mileage on the payment vehicle and it runs very good.
2012 Kia Sorento, 150,000 miles, nothing but basic maintenance and it still runs great, no issues whatsoever / 2008 Hyundai Sonata, 200,000 miles, nothing done but basic maintenance, oil changes, battery, tires and such, sold it recently just because I got bored of it and wanted a new car.
@@1Know1tHurtsNo. He's not lucky. I know plenty of KIA owners that have plenty of miles on their cars with no issues. I know the older ones, like Hyundai , were problematic but the ones that came out within the last 8 or so years are much better.
I'm buying my second Toyota. It's the powertrain that I want. Hybrid 2.0 with 196 HP. Same as my Prius. But my sister bought a Kia. The resale value is a lot lower in the long run. But I honestly think that the Kias are going up in reliability. That's what I've read. It may be worth a second look.
Yeah, I bought a Hyundai Elantra 2008 back when it was new. Put quite a few miles on it and in the 12 years I owned it the only realy repair I had to get done was a strut. Gave it to my nephew and he is still driving it with no issues. In New England. 16 years and almost no rust.
I bought a KIA Sephia brand new and it lasted forever. One of the best cars I have ever had. The only thing that I had to replace was a timing belt at over 140,000 miles, and when it broke it did no damage to the engine at all.
Lucky for you it didn’t damage anything inside the engine, but if you still have it, try to keep maintenance on that thing, at least every 4 years or 50k miles.
@@KevinMitnickHackyboy A non-interference engine will not damage anything if a cam belt breaks; the engine just stops abruptly but the camshaft(s) do need to be rephased correctly.
I don't think this comment is an endorsement of KIA as intended, so you telling me at 140k miles the timing belt will break? that's awful, you were extremely lucky the engine was not damaged, did you were just starting the car?
Not sure about the new 3.8's, but I know several people with a fronteir/pathfinder with the 4.0 V6 that have between 150-350k on them. They're absolutely solid!
Former Mini Cooper S owner right here. The run flats do ride very rough. However, if you would like me and owned one of these machines, you absolutely had to have them. No spare tire and no easy replacement tires on hand at most repair shops. I had many many times riding for as much as 35 miles on a completely empty run flat. I’m very glad they had them available. For regular car that has a spare tire, especially if you can get a full size spare then hell, no I would never use a run flat.
I bought a 2008 bmw 335i. What a nightmare. It needed an oil pan gasket. I thought no big deal it’s only an oil pan gasket until I priced out to fix it. $50 for the gasket and $2500 in labour. The engine and front suspension needs to be removed to get to the oil pan. I was shocked. I blew the engine up and ended up selling it for $500. NIGHTMARE never again will I buy a German car.
@@mrki412 Maintenance is not Magic you know? Seals and gaskets perish. Waterpumps fail. Chains and belts need replacing. It would be nice if designers thought about that when they design their crap.
That's because it was an all-wheel-drive. In order to get at the oil pan, you do have to drop the whole front end to get access. Had the same issue on my wifes BMW, but it cost us a lot more because "BMW", and because Canada.
I've owned BMW 535i, 328is, X3. Water pump for 535, alternator for 318 and tires a battery for X3. Tons of miles on all 3. Np problems here. 3 Fords and I stayed on foot patrol.
I had a 2012 Hyundai Sonata bought brand new and drove it for seven years and a 114000 miles. Never had any issues, did not burn oil.. everything worked when I sold it.. there is a reason Hyundai has such a long warranty…
i had this specific bmw 335i. put over $30k into trying to make this car perfect n failed. Transmission failure, engine computer failure which lead to engine failure, leaks, turbo replacement, valve cover replacement, hoses etc. any bmw without the b58 engine DO NOT BUY. As said in video, car was a DREAM to drive when it drove, but it was in the shop way more than i drove it. No lie. Once again, B58 engine for BMW or stay away.
My son's mom had a Ford focus I think at the miles of 120k was leaking refrigerant, the motor mounts didn't last even though they were OEM they look like they were just spray painted new. The paint dried out really fast. It drove uncomfortable, not sure if it's the suspension or the seats.
Don't know about KIA in the States, but in Europe, they are about the best value for money you can get. They give you a 7-year unlimited mileage warranty. But usually not built for speed or looks.
@@gerohubner5101 hahaha you're funny. To think that the Kia EV3, EV6, and EV9 are designed in Europe and nothing Korean about em. Unrelated note, can I sell you a bridge or some Scottish land so you can now be Lord Gero Hubner the (5,10)1st? Edit: apologies my soon to be Lord. I misspelled your name
@@gerohubner5101 still mate, where do you get that they are designed in Europe? Kia is a global company based out of Korea where more than likely they are being designed. Now I can believe some models are designed in europe, but those models are mostly likely specific to the European market
I have that exact Kia Sportage, that was my first car I bought brand new, still going strong after 180k miles, no leaks, no squeaky noises at all! Basic maintenance like oil, spark plugs and coolant replacement, power steering pump, timing belt kit the only thing I’ve ever done to that car. I heard new ones are crap but ain’t getting rid of my baby!
Wow, straight shot at my stupidity! I had one of those MB E63, bought it with 24000 mls in AZ, enjoyed it for 5yrs, and “donated” to my son- car tech. He dumped it immediately! But my Lexus RX, that I drove all over the country a few times and only changed tires 2x, battery2x and made a few maintenance works I’ll keep for a long time. No Kia’s for me either.
My wife and I bought 2 BMW SUVs. After more than 60k miles, they became a money pit, requiring many trips to the car repair shop. I will never buy BMWs again.
Owned a Kia Rio as a business commute, 300,0000 kms later still going when I sold it. Owned Hyundai Elantra similar mileage as driving school car, still going when I sold it. Owned Kia Sportage, sold at 100,000 kms still going when I traded it in. Now have Telluride, a couple recall notices like the others, no problems. Funny thing that.
@@DeeDee-pw9pm Germans have invented all sorts of amazing things we all take for granted over the years. Putting German engineering on the shoulders of two shitty automakers is just stupid.
Drove a Turo 2012 BMW 3 series 🇩🇪 in spring 2024. Check engine light came on ⚠️ Orlando FL to Jacksonville 🛣 . Fuel lid would not work/open. BMW vehicles do get great ⛽️ . Quiet ride ....
Not sure about new BMW's but I bought my 2001 BMW 330i in 2003 with 60,000 miles, I'm still driving it with over 200,000 miles and gave me very little problems. I have not taken it to a mechanic in the last six years at all. It still runs great and looks great!
I agree I've had bm's for years 3 series 4 series never ever spent thousands on them or ever thought this is a money pit ,I don't what this blokes talking about
Original owner 2005 Kia Sportage EX 4wd and a 4-speed automatic with manual shift mode. 182,000 miles. Rock solid, runs like a champ. I cruise 75 to 80 mph at 3000 rpm for long stretches. Same A/C compressor and Alternator. No rust. No burning oil or leaks. It has the 2.7 L V6 G6BA Delta engine. I'm gonna keep it another 10 years. I do all my own major & minor maintenance. Of note - It was made in Korea.
I had a 1999 Elantra and put over 300,000 miles in it. I did very aggressive maintenance on it (oil is cheaper than engines and transmissions). Never flushed the transmission just changed the oil. Every 4,000 miles I changed the oil. Changed the timing belt myself every 50,000 miles. Had Akebono brake pads and Autozone front brake disc. I lost it when I was T-bone 🥩 by another Elantra.
The 6 cylinder has a single turbo (twin scroll). I have a 535i and it is still running strong after 200k miles. No smoke, does not burn oil, and still has as much power as its ever had. Maybe I got lucky.
Another one to look out for: If you buy a 4runner, make sure it doesn't have the XREAS suspension. It's hardly beneficial at all and when it fails, it's upwards of $5,000 to replace. Most everyone who has to replace them goes with traditional shocks and struts. Much cheaper and give the same ride quality.
Toyita safety margins are thrice the other makes. I bought one RAV4 2L4 imported from US in a rough Central Asian country at 180kmiles, drove 5 years in every imaginable road and climate condition without any problem. Changed only driver door window motor, alternator, battery and rear shocks. They are literally invulnerable species. NB it had a 9lt/100km mileage offurban.
@cathypeloquin4798 yes I agree too I genuinely like kia because they are affordable and loaded unlike some manufacturers that are overpriced , have no features or others who have expensive maintenance like bmw, audi.
I had a BMW 528e. It had the engine rebuilt twice, once under warranty, and once out-of-pocket. The first time it was burning through a quart of oil every 500-600 miles. This was documented by the time the vehicle had 20,000 total miles on it. They couldn't figure out what was wrong, so just bored out the pistons and put in new rings. The second time the head cracked, with no reason given, except that it got "too hot." Given that there was no problem with the radiator or cooling system, it is not clear why it got "too hot."
I currently have a 2020 BMW Z4 M40i. Bought it certified used with 26,700 miles on it almost 3 years ago, and it currently has 95,000 miles. Not one mechanical problem. Still has original brakes and shocks. Drives as well today as the day I first bought it. I'd take it over a Japanese car any day.
I have a 2007 Chrysler town & country over 326,000 miles. The engine still sounds new, comfort ride, the a/c stop working summer of 2024. With a bunch of rust by the passenger rear wheel and bottom, the high cost of getting it fixed is swaying me to let it go.
Had a 2007 bmw 335i and it was a fun car to drive. Bought it used at 50K miles and put almost 50k miles on it before selling it. Had to put in a new water pump and a few other smaller things. I guess I got lucky
I bought a used bmw. SO much fun to drive. But like the man said, an endless money pit. And a target for people who want to dent and scratch it. Never again.
I bought a Kia Spectra 2009 used with 30k miles. I used that car all the way to 182k miles. During the time I had it, I abused the heck out of it, I burned brake fluid, transmission fluid, acetone, steering wheel fluid, and that engine kept working like an old 2 stroke diesel engine. At 182k the transmission gave up and I had to get rid of it.
@@hathwayh3209 Didn't they sell their GDi engine in the UK? In the US, you can get a 2009 Optima or a 2008 Santa Fe with over 200K miles still running strong today. You won't find many 2015 Kia Forte with over 150K miles still in circulation.
I agree on BMWs being money pits. With the exception of the E46. Highly durable, OEM parts as an option and very inexpensive used even with low mileage. The only knock on the vehicle is it takes premium gas.
In January 2019, I bought a 2016 Chevrolet Traverse 1LT, AWD, V6, fully loaded with only 25,000 miles. I paid $16,000 USD for it. I now have 200,000 miles on it. The only money I spent on it was for regular maintenance. This vehicle is heavy and has a cavernous interior. It rides smoothly even on snow and ice (I live in Canada)
I just traded in my 2014 caravan with 162k kilometers on it. For a 2019 mitsubishi rvr suv with 85k kilometers. And let me tell you its a smooth ride and i love it!
To be fair, BMW is a luxury performance brand. Not defending them, but if you buy a luxury car you can expect the cost of maintaining a luxury car to go along with it. Why does that mean you shouldn’t buy one? As for them always breaking, not sure where this comes from as Consumer Reports ranked them in the top 10 for reliability for 2023. It’s the mid-tier brands that are more in most people’s price ranges and is of good advice in this video. Nearly every vehicle and engine can last a long time so long as you’re responsible with oil change intervals and the regular maintenance checks. You know, the things ANY vehicle would regularly need... Your car will cost you more if you refuse or ignore taking care of it.
Personal opinion, many people are fine with Kia’s dudes optima should have lasted with proper maintenance. Feel like many people argue about what’s best when they are all basically the same plastics and metal junk especially around that range of price. Almost every single sedan has all the same features and everything.
Having had a past life working as a service writer for some auto repair shops. Those brands are either money pits and you will get more headaches from them than actual enjoyment from driving. Also I would never purchase a preowned BMW or Mercedes unless the previous owner was a saint and actually spent the money and time on the maintenance and care of the vehicle. A good majority I would see come in were owned by real cheap skate owners, which was understandable due to the high price of maintenance/repairs.
Those cheap plastics are so expensive to replace. I couldn't believe it. You'd be better off buying a 3D printer and copying the parts yourself. Lol. BMW is such garbage. Garbage.
I've seen a mechanic work for weeks on a Mercedes because it wouldn't run. Eventually he figured out that the computer that controlled the headlight wiper/washer system, was holding all of the other 16 computers hostage.
@@rudolfthetallwhitealien No, a guy born in London England, of Pakistani descent and qualified to work on Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Ferrari and Jaguar. In other words, not a stupid guy.
I bought my 2012 BMW 320i back in 2017 when it had 112,,000km on odo. It’s now has 245,000km and I aside from oil changes, tires and breaks I absolutely did not spent a dime fixing it in 7 years owning my car. This is my personal experience and yours might be different.
German cars are the worst because they are cheaply made but you pay a ton for them "because of the brand". Cheapers cars can still have issues....but at least they're cheaper to fix!
Cheaply made? Well, i never seen a BMW modell or Mercedes (at least C class) which was cheaply made. Comfort and materials used in those cars are way above other brands, but you have to maintance it on time, which most people dont do and then they are getting called „unreliable”.
Kia =hyundai, these are one of least problematic at europe. Bmw weakness is water cooling system, all other parts would last forever with decent care. Issue with europian cars in usa is; most mechanics in usa are not maintaining properly.
I had two 325i, one 335xi, one X3 35i and can’t agree more with Scotty. Endless recalls and nightmares after warranty is over. Not different for Mercedes that had an awful experience with a GL 450.
I finally got fed up with European stuff and took Scotty’s advice and I’m trying my first Lexus. I’m hoping it’s as reliable as he says they are. It’s a wonderful vehicle so far.
Scotty, I recently read a car magazine (forget which one) and two journalists employed by the magazine wrote an article in which they priced the ownership of 5 luxury vehicles. There was an Audi, a BMW, a Lexus, a Mercedes and I forget the fifth one. They carried out this experiment for four years. They totaled the ownership price of each one - the purchase price, insurance, registration, fuel, servicing, etc. At the end of four years, the cheapest car to own was the Lexus. The next cheapest was the Mercedes - at FOUR TIMES the cost. Interesting article.
I have a 2014 BMW 528i. I do NOT drive the car hard. My average maintenance costs works out to less than $300 a year. I’ve had no problem with the run-flats. Only thing I’ve had problems with is motor mounts; I’ve had to replace motor mounts twice with less than 80k miles on the car.
I'm 47yrs old. $73,000 biweekly and I'm retired, this video have inspired me greatly in many ways that I remember my past of how I struggled with many things in life to be where I am today!!!!❤️
After I raised up to 325k trading with her I bought a new House and a car here in the states 🇺🇸🇺🇸 also paid for my daughter's surgery (Joey). Glory to God.shalom.
I found an 07 335i manual with 110k miles, it ran and I wanted it so bad, so i prayed to God that I make the right decision. Scotty posted this last week, 2 weeks ago I had gone to look at the BMW, I was ready to assume all the problems that the car would have, I know that the turbos and the parts around the N54 are generally unreliable after a while. The VERY FIRST video being THE EXACT BMW of the next year was just ridiculous. Thank you Scotty and thank you God for this man.
My brother has 3 BMWs 2 x 1 series diesels and an X3 diesel. All of them have over 100,000 miles on them with very few problems. The 2 litre 1 series has done 180,000. My own car is a 2016 435D Gran Coup X drive with only 32,000 miles on the clock. It’s had 2 recalls to replace egr coolers and 1 to replace the drivers airbag. I’ve replaced the brakes, a headlamp levelling actuator and sensor and horn. Other than that nada. It drives great, goes like stink and I love it. The build quality is very high and the interior is like new. It has an oil and filter change every 4,000 miles.
My mom's 2000 Chrysler Town and country still runs great, with original air conditioning system, nice leather system, and powerful 3.8 litre engine and original transmission. I wish they stilll made them. We still drive it!
I know a guy with a 330D same generation as this video 255/30R19 rear tyres and 225/35R19 front tyres, They have to buy at least two tyres a year due to them blowing out on potholes, It's also had multiple wheel weld repairs from cracks. I told him to buy a set of 18s but he keeps the 19s and continues to have tyre and wheel issues. Every inspection sensors, or suspension issues crop up. The engines and transmissions are terrible but everything else sucks.
Mercedes is the biggest scam in modern motoring, here in Europe they are consistently near the bottom of customer satisfaction surveys for reliability and cost. Garbage.
Fiat. There you go. And now Chryslers are largely Fiats. Makes sense. Garbage attracts garbage. Tennessee summers are hot and humid but I doubt they are anything compared to a Houston summer.
I agree with you about Kia, not to buy, but as for the issues you show, ours doesn't have that. Our air conditioning works great, buttons and knobs are all good, sun visors are good too. Everything works great, except for one (major) issue, and that's it's cheap, junk engine. It uses oil like crazy and started at about 65,000 miles (while still under warranty). Even though it was under warranty, Kia said that's normal. Even though we told them it used up to 3 quarts in 3,500 miles. "that's normal" as far as Kia was concerned. We will never purchase a Kia again, just because of this issue.
@@cathypeloquin4798 Yep.. ours is 2017 and it was going through about 3 to 4 quarts of oil in 3,500 miles (between oil changes). I will say though, I decided to start changing the oil as soon as it used a quart (@ 1000 to 1200 miles). After about 7 or so oil changes we were back to going 3,500 miles and only using about 1/2 quart of oil. Now, I don't know how long this will last, my guess is not long. So it is the oil rings clogging up that's causing this. Needless to say, we are done with anything Kia ..
Instead of a Dodge Caravan, I had a GMC safari van. It was great in fact so great that I bought two of them not because they were worn out but or had any problems but just because I drove them a long time.
In defense of the slight window movement for opening, I've had my 2014 Mustang (V-6, 305hp, 6-speed stick) for over 10 years now and I've never had a problem with it. I've put less than 5K in this car in the 10 years of ownership and that includes a new windshield and tires. NOT BAD.

I don’t have an issue with BMW, Mercedes or any luxury vehicle being problematic because they are made for wealthy people that should be able to afford the maintenance. My issue is with cars that are made for regular people that aren’t reliable. That’s just not right.
If you maintain them in a timely manner, they run forever. Look at how many old bmws and Mercedes are out there.

Nearly every vehicle and engine can last a long time so long as you’re responsible with oil change intervals and the regular maintenance checks. You know, the things ANY vehicle would regularly need... Your car will cost you more if you refuse or ignore taking care of it.
Amen
Most BMW owners are people who are not rich but want to be seen as rich by owning a BMW. Most of them are also horny 21 year olds.
I feel like BMW fixed their issues but people still hold the past against them. They are so much better now.
@@UnleashedExThey are amazing. And the maintenance is not that expensive.
Get a Lexus! It’s an ultra smooth and safe luxury brand and requires the least maintenance. It’s for the cerebral buyers 🧐
I have a 2012 Kia Optima EX. Zippy little car that runs like a champ. Mostly basic maintenance with the 60k tune up.
Dodge Caravan nearly killed my mother. Total anti-lock brake failure.
You got straight to the point and gave clear, detailed, helpful information. Just subscribed.
I bought a Kia optima in 2016. Worst mistake EVER! Pile of junk! I’m back to owning a Camry
Kia and Hyndai are junks, even with less mileage.
Garbage.
Bought a Kia Optima in 2018 for my daughter. Almost 100 miles. Paid off and running perfectly.
Wow, almost 100 miles. That's some insane reliability.
@@mplslawnguy3389 prayer helps too. 😂
I've seen a mechanic work for weeks on a Mercedes because it wouldn't run. Eventually he figured out that the computer that controlled the headlight wiper/washer system, was holding all of the other 16 computers hostage.
American mechanic i bet
@@rudolfthetallwhitealien No, a guy born in London England, of Pakistani descent and qualified to work on Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Ferrari and Jaguar. In other words, not a stupid guy.
I bought my 2012 BMW 320i back in 2017 when it had 112,,000km on odo. It’s now has 245,000km and I aside from oil changes, tires and breaks I absolutely did not spent a dime fixing it in 7 years owning my car.
This is my personal experience and yours might be different.
Exactly, personal experience, it's also possible to get a Land Rover to 100k, doesn't mean you should buy one
Great advice great introduction great job always
Kia =hyundai, these are one of least problematic at europe. Bmw weakness is water cooling system, all other parts would last forever with decent care. Issue with europian cars in usa is; most mechanics in usa are not maintaining properly.
I knew BMW would be the very first one, but that it's my exact 2008 335i was a wonderful surprise.
Lexus is a great brand
Honda Crosstour 2013. V6 Earth Dreams 6 speed auto with VCM just love it. Give it the normal maintenance and it will last forever 😊
All thanks to Christina Ann Tucker

Bmw is a painted German Terd ! Every time
My brother has 3 BMWs 2 x 1 series diesels and an X3 diesel.
Close your eyes, and hear Rod Steward complaining about cars for half an hour! 😂😂
Thee most funniest realist way of explaining details I love it and appreciate the honesty
Garbage.
Yes "garbage," just like Trump voters, which you certainly are.
My 2020 kia soul is horrible. Thank God it runs, but it's had to go in the shop multiple times for engine issues. It's only 4 years old 🤦🏾♀️.
Fiat. There you go. And now Chryslers are largely Fiats. Makes sense. Garbage attracts garbage.
Tennessee summers are hot and humid but I doubt they are anything compared to a Houston summer.
Hey Scotty, that is the N54, what do you expect!! Today's B58 engine is rock solid!!!!
What year is your Kia? Anything before 2024 has oil burning issues.
@@cathypeloquin4798
Yep.. ours is 2017 and it was going through about 3 to 4 quarts of oil in 3,500 miles (between oil changes).
So don't the toyota/lexus 3.5 engine that you have to drop out the bottom to fix.
In defense of the slight window movement for opening, I've had my 2014 Mustang (V-6, 305hp, 6-speed stick) for over 10 years now and I've never had a problem with it. I've put less than 5K in this car in the 10 years of ownership and that includes a new windshield and tires. NOT BAD.
You forgot Audi and Volkswagen
