    Absolutely stunning.
    I've seen similar glass concepts in Japan, but all of them are modern. Its the American vintage charm that really makes this place cozy.

    I like the house owners . They speak so warmly about their home, rather than just talk about the size and " wow " and the superficial qualities . They have truly enjoyed their home and that's what good architecture aims act. :)

    it is definitely a beautiful house, would be great to have the option for a smart glass, where with a click on a remote button for privacy in an instant.

    Nice but I would not feel secure there. I also love the feeling of being private and secluded.

    So you basically have a glass house on top of an elevated platform, there are no immediate neighbours and the area is surrounded by trees. Additionally you have normal, walled basement.

    I also lived in glass house. I like the openness feeling of it and yes you still have privacy by pulling the thick curtain. The best part of it that your house is blend through the surrounding area while watch it change throughout the year. It was like a living wallpaper.

    Absolutely GORGEOUS but WOW.......living there would be a huge challenge for any average American who grew up in a standard house with solid exterior walls. That'd take TONS of guts to try & adapt to that. And while the change of seasons, sunrises & sunsets would be fabulous, even with two highly efficient new furnaces living in that house during a dangerously cold midwest winter would be another huge challenge. Single pain windows, no matter how thick are right next to worthless when it comes to holding heat or cold in during the winter & summer. Beautiful, nonetheless.

    I think it would look even better during summer - that wall of green surrounding you would be so calming. But, during winters, I wonder how bad insulation is.. bet it's freezing inside and the heating bill is terrible. These look to be original windows, not the highly efficient ones they have now.

    Having grown up in a glass house, I completely understand looking over outside to see where the sound was coming from or the seasons. When looking for a home for my family, I look for the home with a treehouse or glass house effect. Having grown up in it, I never missed the privacy. In fact, I have my blinds open on all my windows in my homes....which does seem weird to others....but I wouldn't have it any other way!

    • @ChrisCaresChannel
      @ChrisCaresChannel 8 років тому

      What is the difference?

    • @noviceprepper5397
      @noviceprepper5397 8 років тому +1

      Well I don't know what the glazing is on this house but she mentioned the heating bills used to be higher before they upgraded the furnace (I'd have to listen to the video again to see exactly what she said). In my inexpert opinion (I'm learning about high efficiency aka passive housing), but in my still learning phase, my understanding is that well made triple glazed windows are significantly more energy efficient than single pane as they help the building hold in more heat in the winter and more cool air in the summer. Single pane windows allow energy to pass easily from inside the building to outside, and vice versa via condensation, which is not a good thing when you want your home to use minimal energy for heating and cooling. Have you ever been inside in the winter and noticed that your windows have acquired moisture? That's condensation. In non scientific speak, the single pane of glass is where the warm air from the home interior meets the colder outside air, with moisture and energy loss as the result. Triple glaze windows often have either a gas or even air between panes of glass, which make it harder for energy to pass from inside the home to outside. Go to Ecohome's youtube channel to learn more about high efficiency housing and windows. They are a great channel and have a great website. If I were ever fortunate enough to own a home with lots of windows, I'd definitely make them triple glaze. Installing triple glaze helps the planet by reducing a home's need for energy over the life of the home. The home featured in this video is gorgeous, I like glass houses, but unless it's energy efficient it's beauty requires too high a load on the planet, especially in light of global warming. My opinion.
