I think the one thing that make's this house so wonderful is the absolute perfection in the scale and proportion of the house. Even the furniture and landscape is proportional . So many contemporary architects get so wrapped up in their own egos that they fumble these basics.
Another great installment in this series. There's something about the simplicity and elegance of this house that makes it differently appealing than the other homes that have been covered. Gwen seemed like the perfect person to talk about the history of the house, with her knowledge and understated delivery.
You are so appealing. I finally had a chance to visit the glass house last year. Walking through the front door was more of an an emotional moment for me than I had expected. Hope to come back someday.
Johnson had a complicated past.... I am not in favour of cancel culture, and fully support these efforts to preserve the glass house. I do think it's important though to state - and confront - what Johnson said was his inspiration for it.
this reminds me of a place i saw maybe 6 years ago when I was living in Bali, at the time it was abandoned but it's probably completely leveled at this point. It was a beachside building, likely a house but I'm not sure, made almost entirely of glass with only a few concrete/metal beams for structural integrity. It was seriously magnificent even in its sad abandoned state, with stairs of glass, walls of glass, not just clear class but carved, frosted and textured glass too, it had huge mass of seaglass "pebbles" as a ground-cover (one of which I kept). Memory is a bit hazy, but I still remember how cool it was.
I wonder if Johnson and Mies developed any animosity over making very similar houses (Glass House and Farnsworth House)... particularly after sharing the idea.
I automatically think of the glass church (Wayfarers Chapel) in California. It’s mainly used for weddings. They had to cancel their wedding schedule, for at least a year, to address the shifting land in the area. Hopefully the structure won’t be damaged. The glass church was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Not so much a simple design. The materials alone are quite amazing. Look at those huge windows, and the full-height glass doors. Is there a video that shows the construction of this landmark?
Wow, such genuis needed to build a glass rectangular box. Give me a break, without the landscape this would be a glass box that any designer or architect can put on paper in their sleep.
Mentions MOMA but then jumps to him going back to school in his 30's to study architecture. Sadly, he spent his 20's as a forceful proponent of American fascism and all the ugliness of that movement. He did say later that it was his greatest regret to have been involved.

Simplicity & minimalism goes such a long way, the architecture looks timeless 👏🏼

The landscape is unreal!
I loved going here. Growing up in CT this is one of the coolest spots we have to visit. It's such a beautiful property
Ideal to live in and grow all you want, plants and trees with full sun!
Such tranquility, harmony and serenity. ❤

Thank you for such a beautiful and informative tour.
This entire property and everything in it could easily take a set in year 3000 AD and still won't be outdated.
Agreed!
Absolutely stunning 😍 beautiful landscape
Stunning and Christa does a wonderfl job. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you and greetings from Holland.
Glad you enjoyed it! And agreed Christa is doing amazing things over at the foundation
Really like this style to introduce properties.

I love Glass House.
I would have loved to be a guest there. What a wonderful experience it would have been to hang out with Philip Johnson.
C'est magnifique!
The house is so stunning

Do you remember where abouts in Bali? We live here and have just started building, sounds like a cool bit of Inspo to go and check out!
@@liammcwhinney it was on a beach, likely pemuteran? not sure.

Wonderful!
Pretty Damn close to perfection
Cleaning windows in this house is fun😅
I can imagine the sound when those steel sled chairs move along the unevenly tiled floor.
I wonder if Johnson and Mies developed any animosity over making very similar houses (Glass House and Farnsworth House)... particularly after sharing the idea.
Yes
Yes. Yes. Yes.

Beautiful simplicity. But got to be horrifying when sleeping here at night. Like being in your own horror movie.
only 5300 likes should be a million more

You can visit their site to get set up on a tour! theglasshouse.org
Living in a glass house in a Connecticut Shire is something I could do.
❤❤❤

!!!!I've seen this house in lumion's default project, so it came from here
Austerity architecture are defined since mankind started it, aren’t it?
if you pretend youre swiming its like an aquarium from outside
Un havre de paix 😔

Contradictory comment. What you said is the exact reason he built a GLASS HOUSE...the love of the landscape. That's what makes him a genius.
if you can see someone outside they can see you
Mom! tell my friends I’m not home 😅
immortal
Small world eh...

I don't think he had a hand in creating that handicapped ramp.
What a beauty ❤ a gem ❤ a paradise ❤ 🩵
Gorgeous. But I can't help but wonder how many birds are hurt or killed flying into these walls.
None are
Who cares
people who live in a glass house change their clothes in the basement.
😂
@@Molloy1951 i wasn't joking sir/ma'am. its the truth.

Well, it's funny because it's true!
@@april_may_or_may_not i think you haven't heard of curtains.
The glass house is great, but where did he wash and dry his clothes?
There is a guesthouse near the house, i guess there
We fight a bunch of robberies in miotowo to rob what they robbing money and collapse in bunch of them nuim
Going naked through your own house could be challenging
That pool should be painted dark. The bright blue is so out of place.
We can say that when you are there in person the pool is beautiful the way it is. Appreciate your comment and watching!
The world is still trying to recover from this movement. Glass, steel, concrete, social isolation, impractical, totally ignoring ergonomics.
I still don't understand how CT/NY can have such amazing architects and houses......and most of the houses here look like pure garbage.
I agree it's great, but-this is not usable in our society..modern housing is for all people..
everything after corbusier if it looks modern is corbusier - this house is a creative rip off/theft
Don't throw rocks😂
SUPER!!!!!!
