I feel like Jordan was best and seemed most happy and healthy in this simple "just a teacher" time, without the suits etc. But he took on the world, for good and bad
In his recent interviews he mentions how grateful he feels for helping thousands of people by personal accounts. Maybe he wouldn't change it? :) -Good day
I was litterly scrolling the comments looking for something like this ! My thought was where is J.P ! He looks so happy while having fun at the same time ! and that makes me happy
Women maintain eye contact longer than men because sustained eye contact between men is often seen as a physical challenge. It's one of the reasons that men think women are into them when the woman was just making casual conversation. Men aren't used to it.
Everybody should be a "well, Why is that?" Noone in college today is taught why things are a certain way. Noone is taught how to think. They are taught what to think. Jordan tries looking into why things are certain ways. Incredibly useful. And he explains it all to us dumb people pretty well too. Lol
@Han wan Peterson has quite a broad knowledge but his area of expertise is narrow. I certainly wouldn't take as truth everything he says, but I think that most of what he says is useful, even if it's not completely accurate. If you need to get the facts right, check somewhere else before taking his word.
A reason wh fruit turn red could be that is the complementary color of green. So nearly everything is a shade of green in forests. And red is the color with the highest contrast to that.
Mira, the tree probably adapted to the colors of foliage and fruit to have that contrast advantage. Amazing. All this by chance. Millions of years of chance mutations. It makes life so much more amazing.
and i think that we find light eyes: blue, green, amber, more attractive because it makes it EVEN easier to see the pupils and figure out exactly where someone is looking. It makes locating the center of the eye even more easy, and makes eye contact more powerful
Do you mean flowers? Fruit are a late stage result of already successful pollination. The perception of colour is partly a mental construct, so it's going to be difficult to determine how bees perceive the variations in wavelengths. It is known however that bees are sensitive to a range of wavelengths about as wide as ours, but shifted towards blue. That is, they are not so sensitive to red, but are more sensitive to blue and are even sensitive well into ultraviolet.
hey @Freeze Peach, way to go with vague and unsubstantiated claims, i feel transported back to the school playground again. this is exactly why JP is so popular: if he calls something out, you can bet he'll back it up.
He had a good chuckle after mentioning the ideal situation for a man would be to see a red sports car and a beautiful woman in a red dress... with some cocaine. I did too. Unfortunately all I can find around here are my red underwear and a half-pack of cigarettes.
Praying that Jordan will get back to being able to teach us with this kind of joy again! Puts a smile on my face seeing his heart in these classroom sessions 🙏❤
@Freeze Peach he is supporting freedom of speech by saying his opinions and thoughts. You cant just put words in his mouth. He is actually practicing the freedom of speech without debating anyone but just sharing want he is know. And sometimes that hurts certain people because it's not supporting their ideas or opinions
I intentionally do not sustain eye contact while conversing with others as I cannot process auditory and visual information very well at the same time. I've found it easier to listen and develop a deeper understanding during conversations with people if I gaze down or away. I find it liberating.
It is especially logical to cut down on eye contact. It does indeed allow for deeper discussion, focusing your energy on analyzing the substance of what is being said. It has been proven that people engaged in mainstream communication barely pay attention to the actual words. This is just another one of the reasons why people of intellectual abilities are often overlooked. The fact remains - rocket science was never conveyed through eye contact alone.
I see Jordan as concluding that its either one of two oposite reasons: 1) Gamers are highly focused fellas statistically more prone to a higer refresh rate on their vision. 2) Gamers are more statictically dumbified by marketing, to make them purchase pricey gadgets that makes no difference. He would probably know the data required to understand wich of those actually is. My take? Highly focused dumbs. Im a game developer btw.
@@Novack_ Look into aircraft pilot's vision ability, it's probably something that can be improved through specific activities such as flying a plane and maybe even certain game genres like first person shooters.
I wish he was my neighbor. I would have a pot of coffee or tea made every day and invite him over after getting home from work. The man's intellect is just fascinating to me.
@@privateprivate8366 I have had many neighbors over the last 30 years, almost all of them sucked. However, I had the great pleasure to live next to one of the greatest neighbor you could ask for. We exchanged house keys, if you can believe that. I had to leave because of my job, and while our house was for sale, then man cleaned out my gutters, I never even hinted they needed to be cleaned. He also mowed our yard, all this when he had his house up for sale. The man and his wife are true role models.
If not for freakish, sideshow-level SJW's I would have never heard of this man and all his LIFE CHANGING knowledge. Weird. I guess it's just one of the mechanisms society has for self-correction.
One of the other things that corrects society is freedom of speech. Without it, everyone is afraid to say what's wrong. Jordan is on the right side of that issue as well.
Incidentally, the Hebrew word for "sin," chattah, also means to miss the mark, whereas "Torah" (law, instruction) comes from yarah, which means to hit the mark.
He said the word sin derived from the GREEK work "Amartia" . He did not say also means. It's funny how the GREEK civilization has contributed the most to modern society in so many ways that I would say the Greeks are the real chosen people of God
He missed that ripe fruit is red because it is maximally contrasted (according to color theory) by the green in the environment. Meaning frugivores would be more likely to spot the fruit, thus spread the seeds and thus drive the selection engine further towards red ripened fruit. That evolving in us is also related to why we think of red as cautionary because we instantly take notice, and women and car manufacturers sometimes capitalize on that effect. The root of all that is by my best estimation that blood is red which requires attention and that fact directed the co-evolution of sexual selection in natural (red cheeks) and artificial (makeup) displays and the display of red fruit in plants
Hello fellow UA-camr, I hope all is well. First, I want to lay a foundation and say that I AGREE with what the Great Jordan Peterson has said and what you have said. Your comment caught my attention because you mentioned the red/green dynamic. When Peterson mentioned fruit, and again when I read this post, I thought 'okay, but what about bananas? When bananas are not "of age", they are green, and when they are ripe, they are yellow.' Not every fruit is red. Perhaps this is solely based on the eye of the beholder; that whatever is eating the fruit determines the color of the fruit, that is, maybe if given enough time to evolve, bananas would become red when ripe as well? So my question is: are there other factors at play, or is this "positive feedback loop" the only sort of "driving force" of evolution? If there are other factors in the mix, what might those be?
Yes, I can agree with this except that blood is red due to hemoglobin. There are plenty of vertebrates with red blood that do not have the same ocular triggers as we do to red. My uniformed guess is that the relationship between blood color and that of ripe fruit is likely a coincidence.
@@mattdoesflyfishing yes clearly the color of blood is not dependent on the color of fruit, but the reverse is what I'm arguing. So, given that hemoglobin evolved as an efficient transporter of oxygen, and as a byproduct makes the blood red, animal neurology has special alert systems to the color red. This seems evident to me. Now the assertion is that fruits took advantage of that by evolving to be red when ready to be consumed, thus hijacking the primitive alert system
@@xurofthenine given that bananas grow in bunches they would be a lot harder to miss than spaced out yellow apples for example. But yes I agree with your assertion that it depends on the eye of the beholder/consumer. If it did not matter to the primary seed dispersing organism, then it would probably not be selected for. There are other colors of banana than yellow though, including yes red, brown, and even blue - look at that. The reasons are probably pretty complex and varied and not only to do with detection by the consumer but also in the benefits conferred by different pigment molecules themselves, which can protect against oxidation, and predation by insects.
The reason that fruit evolved towards a red color to indicate ripeness is that red is the color that stands out most against the predominantly green and yellow-green background of grassland and forests, where angiosperms (flower and fruit-growing plants) evolved. So it's an eye-catching color, signalling that the fruit is ready to be eaten so the plant's seeds will be dispersed.
I have been watching Dr Peterson for about18 months now and I have noticed that due to the current political climate, his interviews have become very narrowed and focussed. I think maybe that his earlier work is somehow more light yet still incredibly interesting. This one was especially entertaining and funny. Thankyou again Jordan
yeah I went to see him when he talked here in Denver and he talked about stuff more like this. It was super chill. I recorded it and was thinking about uploading it to my channel, but I'm pretty sure that's, like, not cool. it was funny tho, the yuppies here in CO didn't seem to really follow what he was saying at all, so maybe there's a reason most of what he talks about is PC...because most of the stuff he talks about people don't care about. :/ i dunno yeah so anyway go see one of his talks, you get more stuff like this
The SJW hysteria and their sky screaming after Trumps election brought me to Jordan and millions like me. This proves why we need the internet so we can educate ourselves with ALL the theory and rational thinking and not be brainwashed by the “narrative”
His interviews have become more focused because we as a species have evolved to become more focused on threats, making the interviewers more attacking of the threat of his power, and he is focused on the threat of their attack on his power. His brain is swivelling towards the threat, of you will.
@@kjkj6362 well the narrative shifted and everybody seems to be an opinion partisan nowadays. blaiming the former mainstream does not seem to be as gratifying anymore, when as you say, there are millions and there is several mainstreams to pick from to which different people with certain personalities feel most attracted to. also trump advocates are usually not the most critical people out of rationality but nurture their drive for critique out of emotion against established POVs no matter what the topic, even though elites often present better arguments. I agree with you on the necessity of unrestricted internet access though.
Pavel Škrabánek I think you hit on an important issue, the “elites” have tightened the cultural screws so that any dissent of the established parameters for acceptable speech and behavior are rigid and the penalty for non compliance are severe in the social realm. Elites may speak a good game but they live in gated security enclaves with 1st world trappings without having to mix among the “rabble” that their policies inherently bring. I think that’s when I realized I was against the “new left”, is when then determined that their way was the only way and you would be excised from respectable society if you say the wrong speech or don’t toe the line of the rules they have established.
You can just tell by the silence and the instant laughter of the students they are on the edge of their seats. Because he speaks a hundred things a second, but also because he's a great lecturer 😄 he's one of those rare people who speak a lot but they're not speaking to themselves, he's always very connected to his audience, whether it be one person or a full crowd.
Joe Cosmo That may be the case, but it also takes humility. Being able to identify and acknowledge other people’s strengths takes humility. You may think that you appear smarter by pointing other people’s weaknesses but in reality you appear narcissistic and ignorant.
WEIRD THING IS we all probably clicked on this video because of the woman making eye contact in the thumbnail which reinforces what dr peterson is saying 🤯🤯
My father heard a noise down the driveway once as night was falling. A squirrel was standing on a log on the other side of the driveway. As he looked at the squirrel, the squirrel looked down the driveway to see what my father was looking at. Inquisitive squirrel.
This is what I love about dogs. They've adapted to really understand human facial expressions and eye movement. I can get my dogs to look wherever I'm looking. Then, again, not all dogs are the same, just like humans. Some dogs are far less intelligent than others, just like humans lol.
I have just found professor Peterson and I feel so amazed by his knowledge, ease of speaking about complicated yet daily issues. However, I wish I found him earlier in my life. He has such good advice for teenagers I think.
Sin = "miss the target". That is a WAY better definition. He's always blowing my mind, and usually with a sidenote like that, "That's really worth thinking about."
that is what the scripture says: Romans 3:24ish...for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God....the mark, the standard etc. You have "missed the mark". Cheers!
I used to love making eye contact with people until it became to intimate. You can't just allow anyone inside your mind. There's a place and a time. So yes that is the connection of souls.
I’ve experienced time slow down when I was a little kid. I was playing with a hammer, just hitting stones in my garden and then I looked at my house window and for some reason I just turned with all my strength and threw the hammer and I remember time slowed down as I watched the hammer spinning through the air on it’s inevitable path to the kitchen window. I’ll never forget that. And as a side thought, I think that also taps into the human obsession with aiming for a target. So I’m impressed with this video, I can relate to it.
Yep! I crashed into a brick fence at high speed once. My friend was in the passenger seat and we both saw bricks crashing into the windscreen in slow motion. Time doesn't slow down, adrenaline makes your nervous system go into over-drive so your perceptual systems speed up. Something like this ua-cam.com/video/z-eMdMsMgCU/v-deo.html
When you shoot archery, after a few years you can follow your arrow to it's target and actually see the "archer's paradox" as well as the rotation of the fletching.
@GW M You know that sensation and perception is an entire field of paychology right? There's also the purely anatomical fields that discuss how the eyes work. Just one example of how saying he is just rambling and speculating is untrue
@@pineapplaplatypotato There exists the idea of a perfect monitor, and it is based on the maximum physical capabilities of the human eye. 60 FPS has long been the aspired to frame rate for most gamers. And its no coincidence that that 60 hertz is the frequency of most AC electrical circuits (those used in your home, work etc) as the alternating of the current coincides with the maximum frame rate. The power supply for a monitor to display a higher frame rate must be altered from the standard 60hz to be achieved. You can render 144 frames on your video card even with a 60 hertz monitor, but the monitor will only display 60fps. Some studies suggest that 144hz approaches the upper limit of the human eyes ability to detect flicker rate, within 3 standard deviations, a statistical vast majority.
@@theinquisitor5199 Ah I didn't know the connection between 60 Hz AC power and frame rate. I see the electrical companies are saving as much money as possible, as to be expected lol
The difference between 60hz and 144hz is more noticable to me than the difference between 1080p and 4k. Especially when it comes to competitive gaming. It has nothing do with what you can see. Faster frame rates reduce input lag thus improving your reaction time. No one gaf if the average person can tell the difference. To gamers, it's super obvious.
Lower FPS adds lots of milliseconds to the reaction time between seen something in the screen and reacting with the mouse or keyboard. For 144 FPS is only 6.94ms, for "cinematic" 30 FPS is 33.33ms. A regular TV in gaming mode or cheap monitor adds another ~28ms, meanwhile a good gaming monitor adds only ~5ms, and a CRT 0ms. The CRT would look like the best option, but they blurry small details negating higher resolution advantages and their refresh rate at high resolutions hardly reaches 80Hz, so in the end you have a total latency quite similar to gaming monitors at 144FPS.
Experiments have shown that, although we can't make out individual frames above about 255fps(when alternating between actual footage and black frames I think it was), Fluidity of motion and such might still be improved by higher frame rate up until 1000fps, and that is before adrenaline. Unfortunately I doubt that they are going to expose people to high levels of adrenaline for an fps experiment considering health risks, though it would be interesting. One of the few times I've heard Peterson make a mistake. To be fair though this is a very old video, there is still lots of misinformation, higher frame rates have only recently become possible, and many of the studies are from the last couple years.
With humans you can even feint another human in combat just by staring at something. If you have a sword in your hand and you fake stare at something to your left, if your opponent believes you, you can then stab him. It works in boxing too with body shots. You stare at their face and think "Im going to hit them in the head... im going to hit them in the head..." but then you hit them in the body even tho you are staring at their head. Or you suddenly look down at their body and then hit them in the head
Thanks for the free college, Peterson. Thats what these videos feel like to me. I can't imagine learning more at an actual college. This is the closest thing to that I'll probably ever experience.
Unfortunately, it's not as good as college; because watching documentaries is too pleasurable. You learn more, and faster; when you have to work for it through periods of discomfort.
I love Jordan Peterson and his work. This looks like he's giving a lecture from a communal kitchen/coffee point; speaking with the cleaners and a janitor.
Something just dawned on me. I've seen a lot of JP university lectures, and not once have I seen him refer to any kind of textbook or anything else the class might have been expected to read for that day. In fact, his extemporaneous lecture style covers so much stuff, moving quickly from one thing to another on the fly, that I'm not even sure what kind of reading you could be expected to do to prepare for the 30 or so issues he covers in each lecture. I wonder how tests, assignments, etc. work for his courses.
My guess is it's listed elsewhere and students are expected to do readings prior to his lectures where he doesn't have to dwell on specific content as much as the big ideas. He doesn't strike me as a person who relies on a textbook to teach, nor somebody who plans ways to teach his students (not to offend him, but he's really a one-trick pony when it comes to how he delivers information, if you had trouble taking in aural information you'd struggle in his classes). He's just a man who is really interested in what he learns about and can talk about it with enthusiasm.
What you have commented reminds me of a Professor I had in college. He told us all at the beginning of the course that the textbook that was listed for the course (Basic Astronomy) was useful as a reference, but we would not be using it for the coursework ( the book was awesome) - we were simply required to write down in our notebooks whatever he put on the chalkboard. Our notebooks were turned in for examination for the two midterm exams - I aced both, and the final was solely a written exam. Even though I was late for the final exam by 15 minutes, I got a 4.0 for the course. I didn't even have to take the final, He said that he would simply base my grade on my two midterms alone. Naturally, I agreed right away. I was on my way home 5 minutes later with a smile on my face. I don't often get that kind of respect and it was very gratifying.
When I was in high school I used to star at a cheerleader in my classroom. One day she noticed and stared back. We used to spend most of class gazing into each other's eyes. It was amazing. Unforgettable. Even the teacher noticed what was going on. But, we never spoke.
we may only see at 60 but the brain can detect more than that. If you stare at a screen on 60 all day you get tired in your eyes and your brain. If you stare at a 70 screen your brain only gets tired. 144hz means neither the brain nor the eyes detect the refreshes and so don't get anywhere near as tired.
I don't know if this is true for everyone. But as a video game guy who plays Dota 2 and CS I can immediately tell the difference between 144hz and 60gz. I love my 144hz monitor and will not be going back.
AFAICS the answer is oversampling. 144 frames which are blurred together (downsampled) by our slower perception feels more complete than 60 frames, in which the computer-generated nature of the images becomes more obvious. The updatedness probably also varies according to where a particular element falls in your field of vision. The centre is likely the closest to realtime.
I've discovered the hard way that its really important to hold eye contact with a woman you're talking to. And to definitely make eye contact when you do a "cheers" with your drink
9-15-2019 - - - I don't like to look people in the eyes too much - it's like watching their minds work and I don't like what I see. It produces in me an intuitive thought that they realize I can read them better than they want to be read. I've also noticed that women look at men they want, and avoid looking at men that they don't want. So, when you're looking for a women, look for the ones that look at you and avoid the ones that don't. Very simple.
Riding a motorcycle quickly through twisty corners does the same thing with time perception. The trick is to scare the hell out of yourself in the first corner.
I learned in a gun training class that when you're under extreme stress it seems like slow motion because your brain can't process how fast the resolution is that your eyes are seeing....
I noticed I have really bad eye contact. I'll look directly at them, look away, back, look away. I overthink my stare. I feel paranoid if I'm being rude. I feel like im violating them or they to me. I feel like I can read them, and they me. It's a very strange. I'm quite shy. And I am very aware of peoples feelings to the point I dont want someone to feel uncomfortable by me and staring hard.
That's why you should try the 3 second rule, look at them for 3 seconds and look away ,it helped me out a lot, I've come to figure out that you can give someone attention even when you're not looking at them, in this case you'll need an object in your hand or stare intently at the ground or anything for that matter but you need to keep nodding when they are talking, this helps when you're having a deep conversation with someone be it a girl or a guy, hope this helps
You have social anxiety ... I was like that before, i couldnt look people in their eyes, but its only because you overthink. I noticed when i was drunk i didnt care of what people think so i could look people in their eyes. You just need to relax and concentrate on what the person say, just like when you watch a video on your phone.
2:28 He's wrong about the 60hz thing. You see faster out of your peripheral vision. Say you have something you can't see is flickering at say 60hz when you look directly at it (I do and I think most do) when you avert your eyes so you only see it out of the corner of your eye you will notice the flicker more or will start to see the flicker. The peripheral vision is low resolution but faster because that's better for detecting motion quickly so you can react to it. For example with a CRT screen running at 60hz when I look at it through my peripheral vision I can actually see the effect of the ray gun moving down the screen over and over.
People also don't factor in tearing when it comes to stuff like that. It's not just the speed of people's vision that impacts their ability to tell the difference between 30 fps and 60. I fact, I think before we had electronic displays like that, they did experiments with film and decided human vision only detected 12 fps, but due to problems with displaying it, it of course looked smoother at higher frequencies like it does now.
I was thinking that too before I read your comment. Not only is my peripheral vision more sensitive to flicker, but I can see color on an object with it that I can't see while looking at it directly. Fun fact also, my left eye sees white as bluish, while my right eye sees white as being more orange.
+Trevokable Your eyes, optical nerves and brain simply cannot process beyond 60hz. Your peripheral vision is part of the brains hierarchical processing structure so while the vision system cannot process beyond 60hz constructive aspects of brain development create abstract models that allow reactions to take place. So in other words your brain can calculate danger with the small amount of information as it recognises various patterns. Your brain can do this in other ways as well such are recognising a person without actually seeing the whole face. Our brains are a series of models built from our experiences combined with natural architecture.
I understand when he’s talking about time slowing down, when I was 10 I was on my way to school when another kid called out my name, I noticed he was holding a large rocket/firework he was pointing it in my direction when it flew towards me, although in my perception it didn’t fly with any speed, and I couldn’t move with any speed, anyway the rocket hit me on the temple and I always thought I was so tired because of a concussion but maby it’s because my brain and eyes were working above the normal maximum capacity, anyway I stumbled away, I ended up walking into the local shop and I slept for half an hour (although I was not knocked on conscious when this happened) when I came too a family member was there to take me to hospital. Luckily I was not left with any permanent damage or scaring, but I have experienced time slow down like in the film the matrix.
Because our eyes catch the color red faster. It likes the color red. That's why everything that needs your attention or gives you warning is in red, such as your tail lights (break/stop now).
Oh buddy, they know. They just want to pretend otherwise because they tell each other that they need to be valued for more than just their physical appearance. Meanwhile, internally they're worried about their figure, their age, their appearance to other females and males, how they can indicate to their prospective partner or mate that they are so horny it hurts without coming across as desperate or slutty, plus a hundred other things.
@ Partly, but it doesn't have to be about soothing insecurities. I usually don't wear makeup but sometimes it's fun to surprise people, make them do a double take, wonder what made the day special. Same reason I took up the Tuba.
The "Yellow Apple" was a symbol used both in Greek myth and Christian belief-- and could oddly refer to early Tomatoes, which were first cultivated as a small, yellow species. Either way, I always thought the metaphor of the apple or tomato seemed to indicate that once you find something more exciting in life (the sharp, pleasurable experience of a ripe fruit bursting in your mouth) then you'll need to find new excitements. Then you're cast into a hellish existence of working to satisfy your basic desires to the point that you can't even prevent your two sons from killing each other.
Horse riding, Asian Steppes people also would have traded both Apples and Tomatoes from East Asia so Scythians/proto-Parthians could also have easily represented both interest, pleasure and dangers. They had elaborate gold decorations too, might be poignant. Also that a Scythian in Greece is the historical origin of Cynicism... probably other things
I don't want you to sound stupid if you repeat this IRL, maybe to a beautiful woman. The Greek never had tomatoes, nor the Scythians.. Tomatoes are from the Americas.
Apples have rarely ever been sweet i naturally. The growing of apples historically, were for cider. Only in recent history(last 100yrs.) has the cloning of sweet producing apple trees been the norm.
It doesn’t say in the Bible that the fruit in the Garden of Eden was an apple. It says ‘the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.’ I think painters have sometimes depicted it as an apple, but that isn’t really part of Christian belief.
@3:45 took the words right out of my mouth. I had a car crash years ago and not only did the whole 'slowmotion' thing happen, I also slept like 24 hrs straight when I finally managed to get home. Crazy how that works.
There are also cultural differences when it comes to eye contact. Some cultures shy away from it and some cultures use it a lot. Children make more eye contact than the adults.
I've heard of a study that in video games, where red vs blue is common, there is a definite correlation between the team color and the success rate. In games where the best strategy is to rush in and conquer, then red usually wins. And if the best strategy is to think about how to organize and what objectives to pursue, and it becomes important to not just rush in, then blue usually wins. Also blue is associated with respect for the Lord's law in the Bible.
Rick and Rygel probably has to do with nature. When your angry you get red and flare up. A raging red fire is another. Blue is usually cool and calm. Ocean/sky. I'm sure other colors do the same.
Blue won more because of Bible mumbo jumbo? It attracts the eye more.. It's used in marketing a lot, there's a lot of psychology behind colors, to honestly make games fair everything would be the same color, perhaps gray? But nah thatd be boring.
i did an orientation about personality types and "red" was associated with task oriented, extroverted people while blue was associated with the energy of cool, rational, introverted people. Food for thought.
Heroo Duurr I think you misunderstand what he said. He didn't say blue wins because of anything to do with the Bible, he's just pointing out the fact that the blue team in organizational games usually win, and in the Bible blue is said to be a color of order. Maybe due to our instincts the people who wrote the Bible and play the games end with the same conclusion
Well that's somewhat of a professor, and these lectures Peterson is giving is him as a professor. If you're fascinated by ideas and love to teach things to others, then you might wanna consider becoming a professor.
He isn't quite accurate with the 60 Hz comment. People see much more than 60 images per second, but it varies depending on the individual. We can perceive 1 ms long display times for an image and respond to it. The flickering is typically "gone" for most people at 300+ Hz. That said, many people will be able to tell a faster refresh rate display from a slower one even past that.
That 1ms display being seen is not from the brain being able to handle 1000 frames a second, though. That's from visual burn holdover, nothing more. If a movie is shown to us at 1000 frames a second, I guarantee it will be a giant blur and only fragments get through.
davidsirmons Not entirly correct. That means that our brain perceives a 1/1000th of a second flicker in a static image. If you had the equipment to display any 1000 frames per second film, you would see a smooth as butter movie. The only difference between that and real life would likely be the resolution of the movie. It wouldn't "blur" any more than our current perception of a real object in motion blurs (like a car moving down the street).
We can't see the difference for still images if it's 60hz or above. We can't comprehend every frame above 60hz. But we can easily tell the difference between 60hz and 240hz simply because of the motion blur and screen tearing. At 120hz the small number of frames we comprehend each second are less distorted and respond quicker.
Red catches the eye faster than others. It can be mostly shocking, because of blood and association with danger, but that association is done by advertisement and red traffic lights and danger signs. But otherwise, it's just that our minds are attracted by it easily. It's used in eye movement in compositions in art. It's warm, like fire and in the warm color family, yellows, oranges, pinks (kind of)... so also relates to emotional, sexual attraction. You put some colors on paper and RED catches you first mostly, but it can be designed to catch even last, if you compose and place your colors differently
I really liked what he was talking about, i was very focused throughout the whole video. Then the girl was shown at about 08:15 and, without directly noticing, his words reached my ear, but i had no idea what he was talking about. Interesting how quickly vision and subconsciousness take over.

True, I'm not sure if any insects can see in color but it might have helped bee's find fruit to polinate as well.
and i think that we find light eyes: blue, green, amber, more attractive because it makes it EVEN easier to see the pupils and figure out exactly where someone is looking.
Butterflies and mantas shrimp can perceive even more colours than we can.

When Peterson mentioned fruit, and again when I read this post, I thought
'okay, but what about bananas? When bananas are not "of age", they are green, and when they are ripe, they are yellow.'
Not every fruit is red.
@@topdnbass yes, I can get behind this.
So women want to be eaten.

He did say he didnt entirely know the studies behind it
The difference between 60hz and 144hz is more noticable to me than the difference between 1080p and 4k. Especially when it comes to competitive gaming. It has nothing do with what you can see. Faster frame rates reduce input lag thus improving your reaction time. No one gaf if the average person can tell the difference. To gamers, it's super obvious.
60 fps master race
lol There's no such thing. I believe you meant to say "60 fps peasant".

If you stare at a 70 screen your brain only gets tired. 144hz means neither the brain nor the eyes detect the refreshes and so don't get anywhere near as tired.
Also depends on frequency of moving images, colouration (red/blue) & brightness too.
Because if you play CSGO you'll be dead even before you see the enemy if the enemy has 144hz monitor and you have 60hz. :D

Darn right, bucko!
Tool use, caveman style
Its worked for me so
I've discovered the hard way that its really important to hold eye contact with a woman you're talking to.
Very simple.
i agree with the first part but not the last part.
Sam Chau so why would you Sam want a girl who doesn’t look at you but looks at others? Do you not want someone who looks upon you fondly?
I seriously couldn’t hear anything you were saying while the girl was looking at me
Lol, glad I wasn't the only one. I had to replay that part. :P
Who was talking?
Same!

I love it.. Hes completely in the zone speaking in this video
One of the main reasons why I listen to JP, is because he talks at a decent pace.
Nah just don’t over think anything
I never counted if it was 3 seconds but I like making eye contact but keep it quite short. Otherwise it really becomes invasive/creepy.
You have social anxiety ... I was like that before, i couldnt look people in their eyes, but its only because you overthink. I noticed when i was drunk i didnt care of what people think so i could look people in their eyes.
You just need to relax and concentrate on what the person say, just like when you watch a video on your phone.

Jordan: "To see hundred times faster you would need to be sipping nectar non-stop"
Also Jordan: **sips nectar**
But he does stop.
Trevokable your correct, Bruce Lee was the first to mention peripheral vision as to see without seeing
Trevokable Peterson is the most under-fact-checked public figure in the world right now. Thanks for helping out.
I was thinking that too before I read your comment. Not only is my peripheral vision more sensitive to flicker, but I can see color on an object with it that I can't see while looking at it directly. Fun fact also, my left eye sees white as bluish, while my right eye sees white as being more orange.
+Trevokable
Your eyes, optical nerves and brain simply cannot process beyond 60hz.
Dazzling flow and insight....his words are rippling with colour and ablaze with pure intelligence

Tomatoes were thought to be poisonous.
I thought i always had that "power" as a kid
I always used that to see if the teacher was looking at me when i was talking to student
One of my favorite comedians described eye contact like having sex with strangers. ...and I agree.
Kinda when you don't know the person and you look in each other's eyes randomly

He's gotta be one of the most loveable humans of all time.
There are also cultural differences when it comes to eye contact. Some cultures shy away from it and some cultures use it a lot. Children make more eye contact than the adults.
Allen Michaels I've observed that and wondered what the reason behind it is.
The Dweeb Religion can reflect our minds. Should make more sense to you, if you believe religion was made up by our minds.
I learned waaaaay more here than the title couod possibly have advertised

Well that's somewhat of a professor, and these lectures Peterson is giving is him as a professor. If you're fascinated by ideas and love to teach things to others, then you might wanna consider becoming a professor.
He isn't quite accurate with the 60 Hz comment. People see much more than 60 images per second, but it varies depending on the individual. We can perceive 1 ms long display times for an image and respond to it. The flickering is typically "gone" for most people at 300+ Hz. That said, many people will be able to tell a faster refresh rate display from a slower one even past that.
HeldVenom
True but pixel persistence makes 60Hz cost effective and there is also retinal persistence that makes 60Hz functional.
HeldVenom hi
That 1ms display being seen is not from the brain being able to handle 1000 frames a second, though. That's from visual burn holdover, nothing more. If a movie is shown to us at 1000 frames a second, I guarantee it will be a giant blur and only fragments get through.
davidsirmons
Not entirly correct.
At 120hz the small number of frames we comprehend each second are less distorted and respond quicker.
this man has opend my eyes to whole load of diffeirent things good stuff cheers
Jordan Peterson describing primal insticts or bodily functions is the only thing keeping me from insanity
You can tell Dr. Peterson loves his job. Such a pleasure
Ian Gifford yes, but sadly many people mock enthusiasm. We need more Petersons.
Very interesting insight here - thanks Jordan!
Insight... in... sight.... yeah... we see what you did there. ;)
I really liked what he was talking about, i was very focused throughout the whole video. Then the girl was shown at about 08:15 and, without directly noticing, his words reached my ear, but i had no idea what he was talking about. Interesting how quickly vision and subconsciousness take over.
