As a prior Aikidoka and a uber newbie in BJJ ... wrist locks have saved my bacon more than once. Don't 'slap' them on at speed though. Lock it in, apply easy pressure and the taps come fast.
I'm a white belt and not allowed to do these in our academy. However, I am a white belt; I don't know what I'm doing. I's not my fault if I get some of these 'by accident;'. :-) Thanks Prof Tom. Your videos are the best! Please come to the UK and do some seminars. I'll be first in line.
Coach Tom, I just wanted to thank you for all your effort in filming and making these videos available. They've been a source of encouragement and help to me since discovering them several months ago. I started training BJJ in June of last year on my 81st birthday and it's been an incredible experience so far, slowly re-gaining my strength, flexibility and stamina after 3 joint replacements that have kept me pretty immobilized over the last 5 years. Keep up the good work. Best regards, JB (Smithville Texas)
@tie oneon I and my opponent start kneeling (to roll). I haven't yet gained enough strength in my legs to work on takedowns from a standing position since I can't yet manage squats. I'm being really careful about training since injuring myself at my age would put me out for a month or so, not days as when I was younger. Also careful about overtraining at this stage. I watched a video of Faris Zahibi being interviewed by Joe Rogan where he talked about what he disliked about Crossfit and how he felt it detrimental to BJJ since it would tire you out to the point of not being able to get full benefit from your martial arts training. At this point I'm only attending 2 BJJ classes a week then, on the 4 day break I have in-between I do body weight and stretching training at home. It seems to be a much more efficient use of my time and energy (for right now). At first I was all excited and gung-ho and tried doing 3 classes a week which for me (remember I'm almost 82) was too much. I wasn't able to re-coop between classes. I'm finally able to manage a couple or so full 6 minute rolls in a class. Last week I actually got my first submission (Americana) on a opponent. I was pretty dammed stoked, let me tell you. Anyway the thing is I'm just having so much dammed fun I can't tell you. Everyone in the class has been so considerate and encouraging. The ancillary exercises I'm doing at home are of prime importance because before I can do most of the techniques, I need the core strength and flexibility to perform them.
As a newbie (5 weeks in), 43 years old and with bad wrists, that don't bend much might wanna reconsider this BJJ-thingie.... Not really, just worried about my wrists.
You'll have a lot more to look forward to worrying about that just wrist locks on this BJJ journey :-) Seriously, you're at the age where you are young enough to go really hard, but old enough to get really hurt. Be careful.
Grappling industries considers wrist locks a brown belt level idk what your rules are like but most of them are scored and most matches won by points unless its sub only
Hi I’ve guys 😊 I have a q: I’ve got my first comp on Sunday. When in comp, can I expect the opposition to be wanting to hurt me, trying to understand what to expect. No gi, Submission only. I am a bleached white, white white belt and let’s say not the youngest 😬
What about circular rotation, it sends your opponent flyin, isnt it banned? I think it is pretty dangerous having two hands rotating opponents wrist goin snap for sure regardless of positioning.
Every nasty Submission is Professor Toms favourite. Love It.
"Now he's got an underhook and is doing all sorts of cool stuff" 😂😂 I love this guy

Got baited into a wristlock defending a heelhook. I aspire to be that dirty someday
This is most complete yt channel for grappling, especially if you are new in sport. You can find pretty much everything you actually need 🤓
8 minutes of wrist lock education. Thank you Tom.
Nice- A bunch of blue belts in our gym have a bounty on wrist locks.
must say, the videos are looking better and better
We appreciate that, thank you 😁

Wristlocks are LOVE
When doing the gooseneck if you apply a little bit of kotegashi then it becomes massively more effective

Wow sir, this is so inspiring and it made me very happy. Keep up the good work, wish you the best.
Coach, can you please some series from the "whizzer" lock, I mean attacks, defences and switchs from there.
