@@AsafMich yes I leaned a few Wrist Lock takedowns (they either go,down, tap or can lead to a broken wrist if you didn't stop), not easy and hard to get, few and far between but feels great when you can get it "Kote Gaeshi"
Assaf Wodeslavsky oss. Had a lot of my training partners, yelling that I can’t do that. I informed them under ibjjf rules it’s legal for blue belts and up.
I have loved wrist locks in my Jiujitsu journey from white belt all the way to black belt. I dont understand people that hate them, If you dont like the submission learn counters or how not to be caught in them & grow. Dont fold your arms & sulk about it like a kid.
Basic to advance, wrist locks to wrist control is thoroughly explained. These are one of the early key elements from standing to ground game that everyone should learn and practice..... thanks 🙏🏾🇨🇦
My favourite wrist lock is when I'm in someone's guard and they go for a cross-collar choke from the bottom. I just grab one of their wrist with both hands and lean forward until my bodyweight is forcing their wrist into the ground. Surprisingly high percentage.
My gym does belt promotions by having us roll to submission with everyone that shows up for the ceremony (usually around 40 people) and you better believe I'm wristlocking everyone I can to save energy! 😂 They'll understand.
its not that easy, one way to shut down a wrist lock is to make a fist, then its hard to get the bend to put the pressure. we got one guy like 65-66 former wrestler with "Iron Wrists", I cant bend his wrist for anything, either can one of the other guys in the gym who is good at wrist locks
I love how wrist locks have become so shunned in last few years ..... I think why they are so disliked is because of how quickly they force a person to have a heart to heart with their ego .... the only other move as nefarious is the heel hook...the major difference being ,the heel hook can permanently ruin a leg, the wrist lock just bruises egos
Love wristlocks - used that one from Guard bending the wrist backwards from both guard and inside opponent’s guard - learned it first from Travis Stevens - really nice 👍🏼 moves - learned a few more here.
Everyone treated leg attacks with disdain until a handful of pioneers made them relevant again. Who knows, maybe wrist locks will be the next "cheap shot" technique to change the game... The Danaher Wrist Squad 😂
Basically, what I got from this is that any time you've got a triangle between the elbow the wrist and someone's body you're good to throw a wrist lock attempt. Especially if you're going for something bigger and your opponent is skilled at stopping you looking for the wrist as a second option can be helpful to get the tap or open him up to what you wanted all along
I learned a wrist lock awhile ago that was a counter to being caught in whizzer control while in the opponent's closed guard. I forget the details, but it has to do with reaching the free arm up and across to trap and lock the hand that is grabbing your lapel. I can't find any videos on it though and I forgot the details. Are you familiar with this one and if so can you either fill in the details, point me to a video that covers this, or maybe include it in a future video? Thanks!
@@KnightJiuJitsu I've been scouring the internet and can't find it. I learned it at some seminar years ago. Maybe if I start drilling it it will come back to me and I'll shoot a video to show it. I'd love your feedback if I do! Your videos have added a lot to my game and are a great reference source when I need to revisit something I haven't practiced in awhile, by the way. Thanks for what you do!
I'm a no stripe white belt. Yesterday a black belt asked me to roll. I agreed. 0.5 seconds later I was desperately tapping to a wrist lock. I cussed so loudly the whole gym heard me. Hence the reason I'm here right now😂
I have a long background in Kuk Sool Won, and we used joint locks to our advantage in self defense. I'm not sure why BJJ consideres them "dirty". It's an advantage, and isn't the point to win ? I suppose if all you are training for is tournaments, then leave them out...but to train for self defense, I'm going to use any and all advantages I have to win.
I think the main reason people (mostly jokingly) call them dirty is because wrists are easy to injure vs larger joints that you have more time to tap from. Typically, the smaller the joint, the more dangerous it is to attack when rolling, so it seems rude sometimes. But competition and self defense, yes, anything goes.
I saw your earlier video on wrist locks so I thought I would try to get one today when I rolled. I had a great opportunity and bent my partner's wrist to where his fingers almost touched his own arm - still no tap. We laughed about it later when he told me how limber his joints are. I figure 90% of people would have tapped, but not this guy.
Often to avoid the wrist lock they will "push" against it, you may then be able to roll his wrist back the other way. So the back of his hand is going to his arm people aren't usually flexible both ways, and both ways often work together as they escape one, they give the other.
If I am in an actual fight with a bigger opponent (who will hurt me very badly if he can), I guess I will not stop at the lock but "break" his hand. Is the fight over then or will he still be dangerous? What is the best thing to do, to make sure he won't retaliate?
I wouldn’t expect it to be a guarantee in a fight that someone will stop fighting just because their wrist is broken. But they at least wouldn’t be able to use that hand as well. I feel like if a submission makes someone stop, great, but if not at least they will be impaired.
same with a omoplata (judo - ashi-sankaku-garami) , if you see a open hand, take a thump to thump grip and either compress, twist or combination of the two (twisting and compressing) and they will tap from the wrist lock
I use dirty wirst locks when the guy plays dirty or not understand that we are for training or rolling. Some guys require a lesson, Im sorry but is the truth, some people have a big ego.
Anyone who teaches wrist locks with a taped up wrist has my attention.
I'm not just a teacher...I'm also a client.
Was gonna comment exactly that! those wrist locks from standing can also get a nice takedown for you if you got it tight

Great vedio. I enjoy a good wrists lock every now and then.
I liked the video immediatly after looking at the title😂

The only question that matters, why do they have blue bar belts? Royce gracie affiliates?
Yes. We are both 2nd degree black belts under Royce. We have each been training under Royce for appx 23 years.

In competition most of the time wrist locks will result in a verbal tap. I remember seeing Gary Tonon verbally tap to a wrist lock.

I did the bicep wrist lock when I was bouncing in a night club. My mistake was leaving my face wide open. Lol
Triangle principle. Very nice. Practically most locks and strangles are triangles
Jared Jessup can relate that principle to almost everything in a very articulate manner.
I found myself smiling with child-like excitement watching this video
"How to loose friends" 😅 - good note 👍
What is the highest percentage wrist locks that work on ground?
I would say ones from top mount or top side. Lots of variations that work, but those positions are best for them
If I am in an actual fight with a bigger opponent (who will hurt me very badly if he can), I guess I will not stop at the lock but "break" his hand. Is the fight over then or will he still be dangerous? What is the best thing to do, to make sure he won't retaliate?

What are those black belts with the blue on the end ? Never seen in bjj .
The only people using the blue sleeves are under Royce Gracie and the Valente brothers. I’m a 2nd degree black belt under Royce.
Thank u so much to reply me ! I learned something more on the bjj ! I'm curious to know why they want be difference on black belt .
My pleasure. Thanks for asking. And basically, Royce began using the blue sleeve after his father Helio died as an homage to him.
Thank you for making me the most hated purple belt in my gym. Lol.
It’s what I’m here for
they were never really your friends in the first place
When will you buy a microphone ?
What are some good No Gi Wrist locks?
About half or more of these don’t require a gi.
Wrist lock, if it's like, out rotation like this way, grab it like this.
Just like aikido wristlock for white belt
Jet Cabaya Hapkido too.
Nice 🖒🖒👍👍👌

Wrist locks > friends.
Definitely a good way to lose friends in BJJ lol
I just start bjj and this is great always looking for videos
SO when you have sum1 in a triangle, you can just wrist lock them instead of going for the arm bar
Most of the time.
