- Today's shave is a very simple one using an Arko tick and a Edwin Jagger DE89 razor. Arko gets a bad rap and I did this shave today to show that it is a very nice and slick soap. I also used Gillette Cool Wave after shave and a Taylor of Old Bobd treet brush handle with a Frank Shaving buld knot.

You’re right Randy Arco smells like Ivory soap and lemon combined.
Arko is one of the best shaving soaps around for lather and slickness… I just hate the smell. Great shave sir.
Oh well, once the shave is over the smell is gone, so it suits me for travel 😅 Thanks for watching!!
Arko was one of my first purchases after I started DE shaving. I've only used maybe a third of the stick; just too many to use any very often. But I find it excellent. It introduced me to sticks, and I have another six - five from Razorock (had all six but gave one away) and Palmolive. I always take one when I travel. Also good when in a hurry, as they allow for a fast face lather and there's less post-shave cleanup.
I also have Palmolive and I have Tabac sticks. The Tabac is probably the best performing one I have, but they're all good.
I bought a baili victory 171 razor from amazon for less than ten dollars, and I like it better than any of my other razors. I was really surprised what a smooth shave I could get with a Gillette yellow 7 o’clock.
Hey Jack, thanks for watching! I have heard others speak well of the Baili razor. It goes to show a person doesn't have to spend a fortune to get a good shave. I guess I need to pick one of those up and give it a try! Thanks again!!
I just love Arko. I love the scent, slickness, and it’s simple to lather. It’s really really good soap. Great shave Randy
Have a great week

Thanks Paul for watching! I too like Arko. It gers a bad rap from many people, but it is a great shave soap. Thanks again!
Another thing about Arko is that some users need a little experience using as a stick to rub on the face. This soap is like I say much like other shaving soaps, and a few thin pieces can be cut from the stick and put in a bowl to make a bowl lather; or make a paste in a bowl and use this to continue on for a face lather. (I commented on this too soon; you said about the same thing.)
I have used Arko in every way imaginable and it always works for me, but I prefer to use it the way it was intended and just apply it to the face as I did in the video. Thanks for watching!
Very nice shave, Randy. Haven't tried Arko yet, but you've sold me. I'll give it a shot. I have an EJ DE86 (black rubber handle, same head) and it's one of my go tos. Well done! Cheerio.
Thanks Buddy! I think you'll like Arko, it is a nice slick, and cheap soap. Let me know how you like it when you ty it! Thanks again!
I have the same razor. Milder than I like, but I like the way it feels and can usually get a decent shave from it, as long as I stick to sharper blades. Arko is a very good soap; outperforms a lot that cost quite a bit more.
@@keithosmond5730 Yes, it is a mild razor, but I really enjoy that from time to time. Thanks for watching!!
@@randyshaves7956 Hi Randy. Had my first shave with the Arko stick today and I have to say it was among my best ever! I used your method and the soap pretty much exploded on my brush! So much lather! Used my Henson ++ with a fresh Nacet and it was just a great shave. I even tried the Gillette Cool Wave after shave and I like that, too. Thanks again for the tips!
Oh, and the Arko smell is NOT like a urinal cake. It is a bit different, but to my nose, it's like an old, institutional smell from the '60's, but it's not off-putting for me. Considering the shave I got with it, I'll definitely use it, and often.
Keep strummin'!

@RHDaveShaves Glad you liked it! I think it is very underrated and performs very well. Plus, a stick lasts for a very long time! Thanks for letting me know!
Great basic shave setup Randy. Never had an issue with Arko personally and don't mind the scent, although I tend to use Derby more often as it's a bit cheaper for me and works just as well. 👍😎👌
Thanks Lawrie! I can't tell much difference in Derby and Arko and I will alternate using them. I think they are both excellent soaps especially for travel soaps. Thanks for watching my friend!!
Great shave Randy! You can’t go wrong with an Arko or Derby Shaving stick. They’re both effortless to whip up a lather and super slick. I personally prefer the Derby scent more, the scent I pick up is a super fresh & classic clean scent.
Thanks Marc for watching. Both of those soaps l;ather really well. Happy shaves!
Hi Randy, thank you so much for your wet shave. I also see your videos very much It's always very interesting Keep up the good work. Best regards from Germany. 🙂🪒💈💈
Thanks Jens, I am glad you enjoyed this one! Happy shaves to you in Germany!!
I’ve never had trouble with Arko lol I enjoy it
Same here buddy, I've never had a problem either. Thanks for watching!!
@@randyshaves7956 I get the sticks and use it same way you do never a problem
The complainer (or complainers) might have just had an off-batch sample. Arko works like just about any other shaving soap and lathers well. The smell is lemony or citrisy and is okay (at least for me). One way the use of Arko strikes me is that the post shave feeling on my skin is a little dry.
I'm assuming it could leave a dry feeling, but I wouldn't know as I always use a moisturizing lotion as the last step in my shaving routine.
i like the ARKO i guess many just wanna crap all over it can be their water that is the issue hard or soft, i just know i dont have any issues in Denmark
Same here. I have very hard water, but it doesn't affect Arko's performance at all. Thanks for watching and for the comment!!
Randy, if you get time, would you look on the underside of the DE89 cap and see if there is a number on it?
I looked and no Al, there is no number. I have three EJ DE89 razors and none of them have a number on the cap.
@@randyshaves7956 Thanks for looking. There’s some out there that think Mühle R89 and EJ DE89 are from the same place. I have 2 R89s and one cap has a 4 and the other cap has an 8. I believe they are production numbers. So based on what you found, I don’t think the DE89 & R89 are made at the same plant. Make sense? (You can tell I’m retired when I have time for this kinda stuff) yuk yuk
@@alspencer2794Hold the bus!! I looked again and there is a number on two of mine, but not on the underside of the top cap. One has the number 1 and the other has the number 4, but the numbers are on the very end of the threaded stud. I was looking on the top cap itself earlier.
@@randyshaves7956 Sounds like they are still different.
Yes, I believe they are.
