Hey Kerby, I completely agree having a shave with these kinds of products really makes our morning shave more of a pampering experience rather than a chore.
Best brushes are synthetic now, the lather they make is absolutely stunning. I have probably 8 different brushes and my synthetic out does them all. Plus they are cheaper.
Kirby I was born 2 decades too late and you 4 decades later than the hey day of all things men. Taylor of Old Bond Street is my go to for all things shaving and their powder. I use Astra blades which cost .30 a blade versus 2-3 dollars per cartridge blade.
Lovely looking shaving bowl but quite frankly it fits form over function. A bowl ought to have a textured inner surface in order to assist the agitation of the bristles thus creating suds and lather. A $2 ramekin does a far better job at achieving this purpose.

That smooth oxhorn bowl is terrible I've had one and it was very bad for building a lather.. he put part of the clip in this video actually and it proved your point which is spot-on
The most efficient way is to face lather. Your whiskers and the badger hair whip up a lather really fast plus you get the benifit of hydrating your whiskers while doing it. Surprised he said a bowl is better.

With a dressing gown like that, you could get a Nick, a Michael, a Steve, a Dale etc etc.....Sorry - no offence intended. I’m just very immature and couldn’t resist it! I would never dress like that to shave though as the clothes would get covered in shaving cream.
Only downside is that they're so sharp they can potentially agitate sensitive skin. I pair my Feather blades with an Edwin Jagger razor that's not very aggressive so no agitation there. Astra blades were my favorite before Feather and would still be my recommendation to beginners
He’s using an open comb razor which ups the aggressiveness of a blade pretty substantially. A feather blade works great with a closed comb razor, but can be a little much for an open. Also he shaves every day, so a feather might be a little much over time.

I looked into Bulldog electric head shavers, but they were very expensive. I found a £30 version of a Bulldog on Amazon U.K. with attachments for clipping, head shaving and nasal hair. It’s brilliant and can be used in the shower, but as an ex-barber, I would say that it’s best used dry. You’ll easily find it on Amazon USA 👍
Hello Kirby! I admire your work but every time i buy something, i buy it as a traveler. Ergo that thing need to be collabsibleor at least compact. You never know when you need to travel my friend.
Arbër Nani 3 Piece safety razors are great for travel. You unscrew the handle and the whole thing packs down small. Get a small diameter brush and a sample size shaving soap container and you are golden.
@@kirbyallison You get great "budget" badger brushes aswell. Since most on the badger knots come from China it is mostly the handle and the name you pay for.
@@kirbyallison there are plenty of expensive synthetic brushes, as well as plenty of cheap badger ones. It is fantastic that synths today are so good and in some cases even better than badger that we do not need to kill an animal to have a great brushing experience.
@@janplexy badgers aren't killed to make brushes. They're a food source in China so the hair is a byproduct of that. Like making leather from beef cows. If they were killed just for the hair then I wouldn't use badger brushes but since it's just left over after being eaten then I have no qualms on using it.

You can’t wet shave every day unless you have a crocodile skin. That’s why still Gillette leads the market. I do shave every morning but there is no way you could wet shave daily with classic double blade shaver.

@@Jack14432 The thing with Gillette Is that their multiblade systems actually cause more irritation and ingrown hairs than a safety razor or anything of the sort. The reason being is that assuming you use Gillettes most popular model, the fussion, your passing 5 blades on your face every single pass. So if you don't get everything on the first pass, you'll end up passing 10 blades on your skin. This obviously is very irritating for the skin. Not to mention the fact that Gillete blades work by pulling hairs out and having each blade pull out the hair causing ingrown hairs to occur more frequently. Wet Shaving is beneficial to not only your skin but also the environment. Each person is unique and different wet shaving set ups will work better or worse for certain individuals. It's all about finding what works for you.
@@Jack14432 Yes, you're probably doing something wrong. Most likely you're using a technique similar to cartridge razors where you need to force the razor with pressure to get it to cut. With a double edge razor you want some weight in the razor and just guide it over your skin. This technique is probably easiest if you learn it on your sideburns first (I did, while shaving the rest of my face with a cartridge razor for the first couple of times) because the skin is not as sensitive as on your neck, you can see everything you're doing and it's easy to stretch the skin (which is something you should try).
swe_nurse I don’t push the razor at all, I am quite confident that I use the proper technique with DB Razor, but can’t shave every day with it. It makes my skin very weird after the third day of shaving.

That’s subjective, with synthetics you have to keep adding water but I do love my synthetic tuxedo

I prefer feather blades . Made in Japan they cut like crazy.

@@heribertocastro6652 you wouldn't want to use a straight razor on your scalp dude. A de razor with a #1 plate or equivalent is the safest bet.

I suppose if you're on a budget, for sure. But I personally really enjoy the feel of a soft badger brush!

The Defender is a really good cartridge razor. Blades are inexpensive too.
You're not going to convince anyone who uses a DE razor to downgrade to a cartridge razor.
