What are your thought on the video from iPhone 13 Pro Max? Is it comparable to the a7s III? #iPhone13ProMax #13ProMax #Sonya7siii #Sonya7s3 #iPhone13ProMaxVSSonya7siii
Woww amazing job! 👏👏 Waiting for you to do a similar comparison but with ProRes this time results, footages that u have shown previously are mind blowing 🔥😍
I'd really like to see Iphone footage being edited. I wonder if you can make it way closer to DSLR look by just getting rid of that warm skin tones and overexposure on some parts of the scene. Also, the comparison of ProRes / ProRaw to the regular modes for the editing.
"Mirrorless DSLR" is super ironic, because they're by definition not the same thing. The term mirrorless only exists to explain that the camera is NOT a DSLR.
computational photography at work but details suffer and colors look unnaturally bright but OK to have this quality in your pocket always it is something great
Exactly what I wanted to say, and that there is also a firmware update that will happen to refine which is way more frequent than typical DSLR cameras. And for the most part, based on this video it looks like in lower fps and hz and in bright daylight, some photos are better in iPhone 13 Pro which is insane. I still have 7S but due to the size I just take and use my iPhone 13 Pro nowadays.
It is amazing seeing phones evolve each year, but when it comes down to the overall look, details, colour and that cinematic look, nothing beats pure glass.
The fact that a PHONE can keep up during the day, and even somewhat at night, against an excellent $3500 dedicated camera and some nice lenses is pretty astounding. You have to start cropping in to 200% or more to really start seeing a difference and no one watches videos like that. The iPhone is cheaper, has 3 lenses built in, destroys the Sony in stabilization, does a million other things and most importantly, fits in your pocket. Ive been shooting professionally for 17 years now and its crazy. Its now come to the point that unless you are a working professional, having a dedicated camera and lenses is not even necessary.
The only justification to still invest in cameras is for the pleasure to take photos and go around with them. I personally agree 100% on what you wrote but any phone will not be able to replace that feeling.
Normal people never bought camera for video and people who have slight video work still goes for camera whatever the reason they go for camera. My brother is a vlogger started with iphone 12 pro and withing months after bought camera and now hardly use iPhone to shoot whatever it is video from camera just comes fantastic that's its hard to use phone.
I would redo this using Filmic Pro, ProRes LT or higher. I bet you would be surprised with the results. It still can not keep up with a full frame camera, but it removes the over sharpening and artifacts.
I do have a review of ProRes video on the iPhone 13 pro max you can check it out on the channel) soon I’ll make another comparison using ProRes on the iPhone) stay tuned)
well, Apple did not advertise Filmic Pro, they advertised their built-in "Cinematic" mode so I guess that is the point of this video. If you're a proper videographer you can make cinematic shots even with an iPhone 7.
@@metaspl0it Sure but they didn't release the ProRes version yet. At the moment it is only available via Filmic Pro. The differences would be a fair bit smaller if Sony would record to h265/h265. Log profiles give so much more flexibility in post.
@@metaspl0it no. Pro-Res is built in the phone and is their equivalent of RAW shooting of camera. Yes, better comparison would be using Pro-Res built in recording codec & both should be left untouched/unedited or both to be edited.
I'm watching this on a 5K monitor and yes, I can see the difference, but I'm seriously thinking that I would be perfectly happy with that iPhone. I don't even have a Sony A7III, just an A7C, so I guess the difference between the iPhone and my camera is even smaller, and I could shoot, record, send and share my videos and photos in a matter of seconds.
To compare it side by side, yes one can see differences, but alone I don’t think the quality difference is even marginal. For a person who shoot hiking videos, light weight, ease of use, point and shoot, with less gear, lenses, cables and batteries to carry, iPhone is my go to. Sometimes having a bad footage to tell a story is better than not having a footage at all due to cumbersome setup and time consuming settings. Having to charge many digitals as well at night/during stops is another hindrance to having a dedicated camera. I only need to charge my phone and can even edit on the go. For the fact that a phone can do so much and more is amazing.
The fact that a full-fledged mirrorless (along with expensive, high-performance lenses) is comparable to a smartphone is mind blowing. I love my iPhone 13 Pro, it has replaced my camera kit completely, and I would've never thought about that just 2-3 years ago.
may i ask what camera you used? i can think of my iphone replacing my old canon 3500, but surely not a newer high tier full frame camera. I got the A7 III and its just noteven close to bringing the same quality to me (not speaking of the option to choose your lenses, i also think he forgot a lot of things to mention in that video. But still, the iphone is doing a great job!
I'm an experienced photographer and I use Sony cameras. I have to disagree with you somewhat. I understand your subjective taste of a less processed image (me too), but that's not what the general public prefers. This is the reason the iPhone is oversaturated, oversharpened, employs aggressive noise reduction, and uses elements of HDR on all the images and videos. Oftentimes, however, I find those images and videos more pleasing than what you get straight out of camera with the Sony's in manual or auto modes. If you're not planning on cropping much, the quality from an iPhone is absolutely fine...I dare say better for the average person than what you get with a mirrorless camera. Manufacturers like Sony, Canon, and Nikon, will soon find themselves losing substantially more market share because cell phone makers are employing computational photography, color science, and automatic processing in a way that makes little sense for the average consumer to go out and get a camera. If they want to remain viable in the next 5 years, they need to match and exceed camera phones in computational photography, color science, and processing, when in automode/jpeg. You can still leave the more competent photographer with the option to shoot raw and change any parameter they choose during post-processing. However, as of today, when Sony is in auto, it cannot match the pleasing output of the iPhone...a very sad fact. Mirrorless cameras still win out with respect to responsiveness and handling, but most average users do not care much about such things. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Man, just the fact that there is a comparison between a phone and a dslr camera, is a big deal. A couple of more iPhones and dslr cameras will be forgotten. Great review.
F5.6 on the iPhone is the sweet spot IMO. Another thing, since cinematic video is computational, I’m hoping improvements are made iOS software updates to utilize the lidar for improved edge detection.
I would like to have both. Because one is for fun and Sony is for extraordinary purposes. It makes difference when you look at raw footage in Photoshop. Than here on compressed files on UA-cam.
I had to stop the video. To be honest, anyone looking to just make a video and get a footage without the need to worry about cropping, zooming in, worrying about composition, you can pretty much as seen by other editors, get away with it. Now I wondered to myself, why is the DSLR being compared to a phone that doesn't have interchangable lenses but a few gimmick and fixed lenses. Obviously the DSLR will win and the extra benefits that DSLR provides is probably more advantageous for the users who know how to do post-production or post editing. For portability wise and just capturing the moment, I agree phones and even GoPro 10 are a killer in those moments where you can really carry on the go without needing expensive lenses, cases, mounts, tripods, gimbals, etc. For me, 10 years from now. Having a higher quality of a footage will be better to look back on as we move towards 16K, and pontentially 32K and 64K in a decade to come in the professional industry. For phone users, 8K-12K will become the new norm, or so I imagine it will be.
One major thing to remember . The best camera is the one you have with you. I shot a wedding a year ago and used an iPhone along side my normal Canon kit - as a comparison. At the reception I setup some preview shots on iPads. No one noticed any difference on 9.7” iPads.
So glad you made this video. I'm so fed up of telling people that phone footage is leagues behind a proper camera and now I have a source to send them to.
Yes it is impressive how phones take pictures and video but in reality it delights the bad sides of phone cameras.but for an average person who do not know or care about the fine details it is still a good option.
Phone wins on the very first part of your speech. Best camera is the one you always have and fits in your pocket. Whenever Sony gets it better, there's always a question behind my mind -does it fit in your pocket? does it play netflix and other streaming services? does it have a gps map that you can use wherever you are? can you use it to ask help in case of emergency? can you internet searches on it? Clearly, the latest iPhone will always be the winner. Just get some decent battery pack.
Cinematic mode is a joke. It's nice to have it but not spend so much time on it in the presentation. Your video is really great, thanks! Iphone did a great job with the main lens.
for instant result and instant upload to the social media, iphone is great option if not the best, but for serious business with few to lot of work and professional result, no one can beat 'real' camera
This is the best video I have seen on the subject of iphone comparison to proper camera. But to really understand the difference... the video needs to be seen on a UHD monitor. Iphone is great for convenience and for stuff seen on screens the size of iphones. But as the resolution increases... the differences become ever more pronounced. For legacy work... people should be using proper cameras with stabilization and not phones.
really impressed by the low light video quality from the main sensor on iphone13,can't imagine mobile videography could move forward such closer to a pro dslr and good job with your comparison video
Can you do this again? But with Filmic pro on iPhone. the iPhone camera app doesn't do it justice. I'm about to upload a video I filmed Friday with actors Mason Beauchamp and Jared Bankens. Their performance + the iPhone 13 made this scene AMAZING. I'm proudly producing an entire pilot for an 8 episode series with this phone alone. Maybe we will have a few limitations, and it will look much different than any series or film before, but I think that's what gives our pilot such a unique film quality that perfectionists will overlook.
Hello from Korea! 🇰🇷 It's absolutely amazing to see how well the new iPhone 13 Pro is performing here. How much is the price difference anyways? The iPhone Pro is $2,500 cheaper than the a7s3 (body only) last time I checked. 🤯
Thank you for your comparison. I would do one thing different. You are showing the videos from the two cameras side by side in "fullscreen". This is like 1080p and it´s also quite small at a 4k monitor. You are saying that you need to zoom in to see a difference but when you are showing the videos in 100 % you are actually "zooming out" quite a lot. I would crop the videos width 50% and view them side by side in full height.
iPhone needs a native way to turn down the sharpening or they need to do it as stock. The over sharpening sometimes makes things look wacky. Overall super capable camera available right from the pocket.
I liked the 13 Pro better on almost every shot. Y'all pros can keep talking about how the Sony combined with all kinds of different lens costing $5000 and up is better than the $1000 iPhone when you start pixel peeping BUT 99% OF THE POPULATION DOESN'T CARE. The iPhone is great for pictures and videos and all the other stuff smart phones do and it fits in my pocket. Your professional camera combined with all the lenses does video and photography better at 500%-600% more cost, is heavy and bulky, isn't practical for daily use, and doesn't even give that much of an advantage unless you're pixel peeping, which no one other then y'all do. And most of y'all aren't even professional videographers. You're just gear hogs who like to sound good in the comments and on forums. I'm so glad he made this video. Now I'm confident the 13 Pro can do everything I need it to with ease.
The iPhone often looks objectively worse, obviously you can still like it... but the colours, over-the-top HDR processing, denoising, digital sharpening, etc. always look ugly to me. And I've fairly certain if you sat down to watch a show on Netflix or in a theatre you would immediately notice.
Hmm 🤔 A7iii does have that extra sauce that makes everything a bit more cinematic (For $2k+ I’d expect it to). However unless you’re a pro videographer or someone taking the time to setup shots, I’d wonder if it’s worth it . I had a older canon camera , newest GoPro and iPhone on various travel trips ; and the device I still use the most is my iPhone . It’s most convenient and quickest to use for me. But I’m not planning out a film or using my footage to generate income. I suspect that’s the case for many looking through these VS videos .
Isn't the variable frame rate in phone recording the biggest bummer of them all? Making panning and movment look stuttery and choppy. And also editing harder. I hate it...
I watch the video on monitor Benq 23" in 4K. Easley I can see camera much better than the iPhone. iPhone better in video stabilization but I don't like the colour not natural. iPhone is doing good too.
I can still live with iPhone camera but this is iPhone 13pro max vs Sony a7s3 comparison can Sony do message, call phone, email, watch video, search information on internet and can Sony fit in your pocket sound like dum question but I don't think it fare to bring it up. ✌️
Your output is incredible! How do you find time to create excellent, detailed, high quality videos almost everyday?? Great job and I know your channel will keep growing like crazy. I especially liked the comparisons with Grading. That's where the Sony and the iPhone really show their limits. I'll take a real camera with it's wider dynamic range and ability to grade every time.
Hey)) thank you, bro) I’m just passionate about my craft and also it’s a habit of being a real hard-worker (because I also shoot a ton of client videos and make the same UA-cam content in Russian on my Russian channel). It’s like inertia - I got the speed and now I can’t stop 😅
Very impressive video comparison! No doubt the A7S3 wins by a huge margin, but when you factor in the cost of the camera plus good glass, it can be astronomical compared to the iPhone. The Sony is in my wish list, but the iPhone is in my pocket. 😎. It would be interesting to see a comparison using filmic pro with prores. Again, great job with this video. Subscribed!
the a7s3 didnt win by a huge margin. it was only when he zoomed into the video that it looked slightly better, but realistically most people arent zooming into a video.
Image quality of the A7S3 is definitely better but the quality difference is not worth the additional hassle of carrying a full sized camera and the need to post process on SLOG3.
Very thorough comparison, thanks for shooting. It's interesting to see where the iphone can keep up with the full sized Sony sensor and lens, then when it falls short after Apple applies too much de-noising. Based on size/physics alone, a phone will never replace a professional setup, but it's encouraging to see how far such a small setup has come. I hope that Apple's engineers watch enough of these videos to see where improvements might be made and what us, the consumers are looking for.
It's crazy how good PHONE cameras are nowadays. Imagine the camera quality 15 years ago... I say, let's wait another 15 years and there will be almost no difference at all
To me it seems like many of the shots actually look better in the iPhone. Certainly good enough that I would not think I would need to buy a $3k camera.
For an an average user, if you have the money to only get one product then get the iphone. it has similar performance and you can do so much with it - phone, internet, music, work...
I have run my own Real Estate business I need a good camera for shooting Real Estate indoor videos in low light condition with ultra wide angle lens, please suggest me which camera is a good choice for me like, iPhone 13 pro, DJI Osmo Pocket 2, GoPro 10 or GoPro 360? iPhone 13 pro is out of bought but if it's wonderful option then I can manage
My only critique would be that you have used the fixed settings to match your Sony camera using an Adobe Premiere app camera for fixed settings in the iPhone. I think it improves the quality overall. Great comparison btw.
good video. but realistically most people arent zooming into a video. i thought the a7s3 would win easily but it didnt win easily. actually for most of the daytime environment videos, the iphone was better because it brighten up the place nicely. the sony did well with the subject skin tone, and background separation. phones are taking over, these overpriced mirrorless cameras need to step up their game. for daytime videos the iphone can easily replace the camera.
You are watching this on a tiny screen with youtube lower quality.also the camera isnt much about color accuracy its the detail it captures.the rest is done in post
@@polishhamnr1469 old post, i still agree with what i said although i have a mirrorless camera. the fact remains smartphones are taking over, as i said. for daylight video most people wouldnt notice much difference and might even pick the phone over the camera.
Very very interesting video. (Almost) everybody thinks that a iPhone and a real camera are equal.... I wish they would see your video as you really prove that they are not. Keep up the good work..... over time I am sure thats you will get MANY more subscibers 👍
Not a pro, I m just a phone user , there are some differences between both photos,, but if it’s by itself , they both look good. With iPhone, just pull it out , aim, shoot and send ... it’s too easy . Thank you for your video.
I'm intrigued by how this develops. Apple's upcoming ProRes video update will apparently bring 4K 30fps at 6Gb a minute. The gap may not have closed, but it's narrowing.
It won't ever be equal due to the physics of sensor size and glass quality. Eventually phones will cost as much as cameras because of all the tech they're trying to throw into it because people are so pathetically weak they can't be bothered to carry a 3lb camera and lens with them.
The gap is pretty big if you know enough about cameras... The iPhone is solid but far away from equal. But the a7s3 is a 4k camera, its fine that its the case.

@@NOlimitsON actually i am looking for the phone where I can get very good portrait mode of camera. Is their any mobile like that, if you know please suggest me..
The picture on the small screen looks similar. The difference is in the matrix and the smartphone will never equal the camera. The differences can already be seen even on a monitor larger than 27 inches ...

For legacy work... people should be using proper cameras with stabilization and not phones.
I totally agree, mate) thank you and stay tuned!
help decide please? what’s best for getting good indoor videos too sony vs gopro vs anything else?
Sony)
The iPhone looks like this straight out of the camera, no grading. Pretty amazing
Thank you for the great work. Cheers from Morocco
Thanks bro)) stay tuned)
really impressed by the low light video quality from the main sensor on iphone13,can't imagine mobile videography could move forward such closer to a pro dslr
and good job with your comparison video
Thanks mate! I’m glad you liked it and learned some things from it) stay tuned)
It’s already done for a couple of weeks)) check it on the channel
Hello from Korea! 🇰🇷 It's absolutely amazing to see how well the new iPhone 13 Pro is performing here. How much is the price difference anyways? The iPhone Pro is $2,500 cheaper than the a7s3 (body only) last time I checked. 🤯
Cheers from Russia, bro))
Thank you for your comparison. I would do one thing different. You are showing the videos from the two cameras side by side in "fullscreen". This is like 1080p and it´s also quite small at a 4k monitor. You are saying that you need to zoom in to see a difference but when you are showing the videos in 100 % you are actually "zooming out" quite a lot. I would crop the videos width 50% and view them side by side in full height.
Hey, thanks) there is a lot of shots with 100% - simply cropped out left and right sides of the picture, as well as a lot of 200-400% crops
This is insane, I will pick the iPhone 13 Pro Max over and over again.
The picture quality can be Colourpop graded which is an easy fix.
iPhone needs a native way to turn down the sharpening or they need to do it as stock. The over sharpening sometimes makes things look wacky. Overall super capable camera available right from the pocket.
Difference, in general, is astounding.
Can you redo this test using the ProRes on the iphone.
I will) I guess tomorrow 😅 too many requests)
Hmm 🤔 A7iii does have that extra sauce that makes everything a bit more cinematic (For $2k+ I’d expect it to). However unless you’re a pro videographer or someone taking the time to setup shots, I’d wonder if it’s worth it . I had a older canon camera , newest GoPro and iPhone on various travel trips ; and the device I still use the most is my iPhone . It’s most convenient and quickest to use for me. But I’m not planning out a film or using my footage to generate income. I suspect that’s the case for many looking through these VS videos .
Quick question. What type of thing is attached to your Sony that’s also holding your phone??
That’s a cold-shoe rotatable monitor mount and a cheap phone holder by Ulanzi
texture detail and low light is always better on DSLR
Dude does this for two channels btw😂 hustle culture in russia is real
@@sparrow9982 it is, bro 😅 but I love UA-cam and it’s a pleasure for me to reach more people on both languages)
Subscribed!
Thanks Tim) I plan on making such comparison soon)
the a7s3 didnt win by a huge margin. it was only when he zoomed into the video that it looked slightly better, but realistically most people arent zooming into a video.
0:49 LOVE your wallpaper. Immediately installed it ))
😅 thanks mate)
now lets compare it with panavision or imax70mm film holywood camera
Image quality of the A7S3 is definitely better but the quality difference is not worth the additional hassle of carrying a full sized camera and the need to post process on SLOG3.
It’s amazing what smart phones can do with those tiny sensors
Very thorough comparison, thanks for shooting. It's interesting to see where the iphone can keep up with the full sized Sony sensor and lens, then when it falls short after Apple applies too much de-noising. Based on size/physics alone, a phone will never replace a professional setup, but it's encouraging to see how far such a small setup has come. I hope that Apple's engineers watch enough of these videos to see where improvements might be made and what us, the consumers are looking for.
Thank you Charles! Stay tuned)
It's crazy how good PHONE cameras are nowadays. Imagine the camera quality 15 years ago... I say, let's wait another 15 years and there will be almost no difference at all
Yeah thats not how it works lol. Cameras are improving really fast as well. The tech never sits still.
lol.. try compare with 10k usd camera
Do the same comparison with filmic pro prores 422hq it might even less off a difference between camera and the phone
Hey) I will)) stay tuned, mate)
To me it seems like many of the shots actually look better in the iPhone. Certainly good enough that I would not think I would need to buy a $3k camera.
Then after u share it, they iphone would get worse.
Imagine iPhone computation in a Sony mirrorless!
All of those are pretty bad in lowlight with ultra-wide lenses…
Best camera is always with you!
Greetings from New York. Amazing video!
Thanks bro) appreciate it!
Watching first time any russian youtube channel. I am from India, loved your video
Thanks mate)) stay tuned)
Great video . You could’ve compared iPhone shots in ProRes format
I plan on making a separate video with such comparison)
Thank you, mate) stay tuned)
Please do another updated review when ProRes comes to iPhone
I did a review on ProRes on iPhone in a separate video and also plan on making such comparison with ProRes
I was waiting this video on this channel thanks a lot. I actually recommended this video the past few days hahaha.
😅I’m glad, bro)) thanks)
image of bright iphone 13. I think it's ok to use luts for color mode in post-production
Actually there tons of scenarios where iPhone is really limited and a proper camera can’t be replaced yet
You are watching this on a tiny screen with youtube lower quality.also the camera isnt much about color accuracy its the detail it captures.the rest is done in post
@@stephaned3072 so true, try watching a recorded video on 4k display. Phone cameras look good on phone display... the pixel shows on bigger screen..
LMAO
@@polishhamnr1469 old post, i still agree with what i said although i have a mirrorless camera. the fact remains smartphones are taking over, as i said. for daylight video most people wouldnt notice much difference and might even pick the phone over the camera.
Very very interesting video. (Almost) everybody thinks that a iPhone and a real camera are equal.... I wish they would see your video as you really prove that they are not. Keep up the good work..... over time I am sure thats you will get MANY more subscibers 👍
Thank you Josh)) it’s really inspiring! Stay tuned)
great pocket video cam for 2021 no doubt.... great test info... THanks

Great video! Thank you from France!
Merci))) stay tuned)
The iphone is not bad, but the A7s III is NEXT level! the video from that thing is GORGEOUS!
Not a pro, I m just a phone user , there are some differences between both photos,, but if it’s by itself , they both look good. With iPhone, just pull it out , aim, shoot and send ... it’s too easy . Thank you for your video.
Welcome mate)
AMAZING VIDEO, Do you have a link to that Ulanzi phone holder? or what it the serial #? Spasiba

That’s cool)
Great video, it helps a lot. You did a great job👍🏻🌸
BTW, do the same test with the Filmic Pro on the highest quality and you'll get way better results from the iphone.
What about the portrait mode of video in long distance (13 pro)..?
It’s bad)) because even on closer distances it’s so so
@@NOlimitsON actually i am looking for the phone where I can get very good portrait mode of camera. Is their any mobile like that, if you know please suggest me..
Hi have you used neat video to eliminate noise in low light with iPhone 13 pro?
No software corrections in post was used in both cameras
The picture on the small screen looks similar. The difference is in the matrix and the smartphone will never equal the camera. The differences can already be seen even on a monitor larger than 27 inches ...
Imagine if they put a much larger sensor and even better lenses on the iPhone. GG.
Very thorough work. Thank you.
Welcome)))
I am planning to make a Feature film with iPhone 13 pro max. Can I go with this? Is iPhone 13 pro max will will good footage for large therater screens with out noise ? If I do colour correction or DI it will be problem? For iphone footage?

Hey Man, Really enjoyed your comparison and would love to see your vid on ProRes, but can't find it. Did you make it?
Yes, I did) it’s around October-November 2021 on the channel)

This was a very very informativ Comparison.
So I will subscribe this channal.
Thank you !
Thanks, bro) I appreciate it) today I’ll put out RAW Photos comparison of iPhone 13 pro max and Sony a7s3
Being the Sony A7Siii one of the best cameras for low light,
I can imagine how everybody is surprised with the performance of the iPhone 13 .
😮
Me too)
But it also has the lowest
Megapixels of any full frame camera so of course the "cropped" comparison wasn't huge. Use an A7R4 and try again.
hey man great job I'm new on your channel is the any chance to cover rumors about new cameras either compact or full body with lenses ? I wonder especially about zv-1 mark 2 and A9-III ?
Hey)) Thanks) Welcome to the channel) I did't hear any specific info about those cameras... but I cover a lot of new cameras and lenses on the channel)

redo it with the iphone using ProRes feature, should have a dramatic difference
I will do it today)
In every comparison the iPhone looked better to me. Listening to what your saying doesn’t really match what I’m seeing. It’s clearer to me more realistic. But my eyes aren’t that good bust if there was no label on the bottom I would of picked the iPhone. Good video.
Thank you) which display are you using to watch it? If you are watching on a small screen - iPhone may seem better because of the oversharpening. I watched it on iMac 5K 27” and the difference is very clear
