As soon as you mentioned wanting to know more about the Ghosts deaths I knew you were going to love this one. This might also be my favourite appearance of Barclay Beg-Chetwynde. Geoffrey McGivern really nails the character, he's that perfect level of entertainingly unlikeable. He's so good that it took me till the third of fourth series to realise I knew him as Ford Prefect in the radio series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, he gives such different performances. There was also a show that came out a few years before Ghosts, called Quacks. It only got 6 episodes, but it starred Mathew Baynton as one of the lead roles, with Geoffrey McGivern and a few other familiar faces in minor roles. It was a dark comedy about Victorians striving for success in different medical fields: Robert Lessing (Rory Kinnear) a surgeon, and his wife Caroline (Lydia Leonard) who tries to learn as much as she can, John (Tom Basden) a dentist and William (Mathew Baynton) as an alienist (early form of physiatrist) It's a show that I like to think has the potential for being a part of the same universe as Ghosts. Same goes for Daisy May Cooper & Tim Key's show The Witchfinder.
What a great episode! I love the flashbacks in this one. I was just wondering, as I am not sure you have mentioned it, are you aware that Robin and Humphrey (his head at least) are the same actor? Larry truly has range as so the other cast members of this show imo
Petition to obtain a copy of Yonderland for this man. Same team, but a fantasy alternate realm, more adult humor, and they each play about 47 characters. Anyone else here seen it?
I'm not trying to seem smug, but I knew from the start. If you watch their other stuff, especially Yonderland, you start to be able to recognize them even under heaps of makeup. That's the only way I knew, but can completely understand not noticing at first
About the truth of the story with Humphry. King Henry 8th started the angelican (a version of the protestant) church, making himself head of it. He did this to be able to divorce his first wife. By doing that he removed the catholic church from England. (A huge scandal in Europe at the time. The pope was Pissed! The pope was generally regarded as the most powerful man in Europe) KH8s son (from the third wife) continued the new church, till he died as a teen. The next monarch was KH8ths oldest daughter. Queen Mary (Bloody Mary, not the Queen Mary mentioned in this eposide). She was the daughter of his first wife and tried to reinstate the catholic church. It was bloody. When she died childless, the next oldest daughter of KH8th, Queen Elizabeth (the one the plotters wanted to kill) became Queen. She was the daugher of the second wife, whom KH8, started the new church to marry, and she went back to the protestant church. As you see, it was quite a lot of back and forth, and people have always been willing to die for their religion. So there were a lot of ploting on both sides to get either one, or the other of the monarchs killed. So while there wasn't a real Humphry Bone, there were similar stories. The Queen Mary that's mentioned by Humphrys wife, is Mary, Queen of the Scots. A catholic cousin of QE1, who was finally beheaded due to the threat she possed as a competitor to QE1. When QE1 died, it was the Scotish king, the son of Mary of Scotlands that became King in England. Unifying the two countries. However, the only reason he was allowed to become King, is because he said he wouldn't reinstate the Catholic Church. Since you're watching Horrible histories now, you could see the song about Henry the 8ths six wifes. Sung by the Captain (as Henry the 8th).
@@gingerDoctorwho I might be wrong but I think he watched/ recorded them already (that one anyway) and is just waiting for it to be closer to Christmas before posting
Correct Chloe. By time Christmas is here all of the Christmas specials (except the final season) are going up on Christmas day. But I will be watching them in order
I think the point is it's the language of Protestants - something universally disliked in Burgandy by Catholic french seeking to overthrow Elizabeth I. Most of the poets were also soldiers.
"sistine chappel ceiling, not the roof"
"good cause I just googled the roof and I wasn't blown away".
Fantastic delivery, no notes.
Yes! Possibly Obi's best line throughout! Perfect!
Humphrey is my favorite of the ghosts so stories about him are my favorites.

Oh my god, I so wish Quacks got more seasons!!!
I've lost track of the number of times I've said this, but this is one of my favourites.

Yes I am. And as Humphrey has been speaking more during this season I really how comedically potent both characters are. He's very good

Yeah I think Adam would enjoy it and I’d love to see a reaction series to Yonderland
Welcome to Series 3- a lot to enjoy coming up!
I just recently learned that Robin and Humphrey are played by the same actor. Am I the only one who didn't realize that? 🥴
I just learned that too while I was exploring the IMDB page! I feel so slow lol
I had NO idea!
I came to say yes, but apparently I’m wrong.

I have face blindness so someone only needs to put on a hat or change their hairstyle and I will have no idea they're the same person 😅

If you like the posh old neighbour then PLEASE watch "Back". He is amazing in it, plus the main characters are mitchell and webb
My sentiment regarding the third series is essentially the inverse of most Trekkies' view of the Star Trek films.
Yes - you get all their deaths 🙂
Did you just miss an episode.? There's a Christmas one between S2 and S3

@@AdamfromFWCIwas worried. The Christmas episode you "missed" was fantastic. Kind of sad I won't get one this year 😢
English is the language of Shakespeare, Dickens, and Austen. Nabokov, whose native language it was not, loved English.
