Much as I love the modern hijinks, the flashback episodes to the ghosts' lives (and deaths) are always my favourites and this is one of the best, not least because it makes the most out of the house already being haunted by this point. The way the story unpeels a little more with each narrator adding a new layer of detail is fantastic. And I love any time Humphrey gets to have his moment 😁
10th of October 1824, so today is the 200th anniversary of the Thomas Thorne affair! I love this episode. For some reason Robin's comment about Thomas cleaning poo ftom his lady shoes gets me every time 😂
Up there as one of my favourite episodes. I love it how they play around with the different Ghosts narrating what happened to Thomas, gives some hilarious performances like 'man called Thomas do poem'. By the way, just because the ghosts have some realisation/big moment doesn't necessarily mean they'll get sucked off. Like with s1e3 Pat thought he was moving on, but no. The writers I think decided not to go for the obvious 'unresolved issue' route which I'm very happy about.
00:54 Ohh, Humphrey's death story's on a whole other level. His attire highlights a key contrast with most Tudor persons who had a similar demise. 04:42 I always knew it as "I Went to the Shops..."
This is one of my top rated episodes of the whole series- we obviously learn a lot about Thomas, but also elements for many of the others - including introducing Annie. The only downside of this episode is that there is very little for Mike to do, as he can't interract with the main plot at all. Having said that they managed to include another aspect of 'different versions of the truth' in for him too.
Annie was a short appearance here though it's not the last episode you'll see her, and she is played by Bridget Christie who's on Taskmaster S13, so hopefully the next time Annie appears you'll recognise her
Bridget Christie in this episode -- you will meet her in the next season of Taskmaster great fun, mad + awkward but occasionally the fact she is smart as well seeps out.
I personally think the show gets better as it goes along, never really peaking although some episodes are personal highlights. About the other deaths: all will be revealed! And there is definitely more heartfelt and even painful moments to come 🥲 so good though
Also I do love how clever this episode is with the slow reveals through the different ghosts perspectives- a really cool way to show how everyone has different versions of the truth
By this point, you know: Pat was shot by one of his cubs Lady Button was pushed out of the window Thomas was shot (the musket shot hole has always been visibile in his coat) Humphrey was beheaded, though you don't know how/why yet. Julian died with his pants down in a sex scandal. Mary was burned at a witch trial, though you don't know the detail yet.
@Georgie_R the US series is ok. I dont hate it. But its very "joke of the week" with a ridiculous amount of coupling up going on and far too many ghosts randomly showing up. I like Alberta, Pete, Trevor and Hetty. Flower is just annoying, Isaac is less likable than his British counterpart, and the others are a bit forgetable. Its not terrible, its just not as nuanced as the original.
The fact that the show continually uses an audio cut-off to censor swears, and it is never any less funny, is just a great sign of how fantastic the writing is.
uk ghosts is so good, i'm gutted they pulled the plug. have to say though i'm thoroughly enjoying us ghosts. totally different pace of show but in it's own right is really spot on. can't wait to see the australian and german versions too.

This episode is genuinely sad, but “I just thought she’d written it in a hurry” is so funny.

That's my favourite line of this episode. It's as much the way he says it as anything else!

This is why the UK original is superior. Its not all about laughs and slapstick it has genuine pathos and sadness amidst the jokes.
@@martynnotman3467 You can't be serious, the us version has just as much.
@corryjamieson3909 it really doesnt no

Bridget Christie was wasted here...
There’s a few episodes with her later on
