Scarey 🙁 We must have science, technology, engineering and maths graduates to build NZ's economy. Psychology and Maori studies do little good for NZ except clogging up govt departments with increased employees adding no value but costing taxpayers highly 😡
What a lot of complete rubbish. Keep Maori "knowledge" as far away from the education system as possible. It'll just dumb down education more than already.
They cannot call themselves academia if they are woke and racist thru maorification. Its 1 thing to honor maori but another to create race based rules on what to learn
Yes, it’s a tragedy in the making. I did my PhD in engineering at Canterbury. One of the first things my supervisor did was hand me a copy of Karl Popper’s philosophy of science. I also suggest reading Steven Weinberg’s To explain the world - the discovery of modern science. Spirituality has no place in science. If you want spirituality, then a temple, mosque or church might be a useful place to reside.
Academic standards have seriously dropped while costs increase. All one has to do is look at what has happened to universities overseas. People DID come for a marketable education - that is slipping bc of the Universities. I have completed a Doctorate on this matter. What is happening is appalling - and it is true that STEM is suffering. Universities are pumping out more and more either 'compromised" or "useless" degrees - that people are convinced to foolishly pay top-dollar for. Convinced of the belief that, that is a marketable degree. Tough Luck.
I would never go to university unless doing the hard sciences...maths,physics,biology,medical etc. Everything else learn from your local library...especially gender studies. Its in the children's section!

I wish Maori would not just come down to earth but leave the irrelevances of the 18-19th century behind just like us Europeans have done. There’s no shame in that . No vibe to the place and a noticeable lack of students on campus. I've heard they've culled a lot of courses. No surprise given what I experienced.

NZ Universities should do the smart thing and specialise in subjects underpinned by solid empirics, and robust liberal argumentation frameworks.
