What are your thoughts on the 2018 NBA Playoffs?
The Herd with Colin Cowherd Golden State over Toronto in the finals. Sorry, Cavs fans, Raptors are beating yall.
This is Toronto's Year!!
That's why your kid is over seas and not in the NBA
The Herd with Colin Cowherd competitive but same conclusion (coming from a rockets fan) warriors vs cavs assuming curry will at least be at 80%
That you are a kevin durant hater. He is more of an alpha than you are.
This might be the best guest Colin has ever had on here
Too articulate for the NBA
Best? Colin guess seems like their belong in a jealous fan club .
Colin you need to have Rick Barry on more often 💯
This guy is legit. He knows what he is talking about. We need to start an academy for kids just like Europe has for soccer
Better be released at 15/16 then waste ur time at college
Jared Reed sure like westbrook wouldnt be dominating a league from the 1960s please
Jared Reed Something like La Masia would be great but the NCAA monopoly gives the schools too much power and control over the amateur athletes being groomed for pro sports.
We need to do that for Soccer, basketball will be okay the way it is
@@mattwhitely1067 dominating palming and traveling
Rick was a GREAT player - he is a top 3 passer all-time at the SF position, top 3 scorer, could finish in the paint with anybody, had deep range on his jumper, and was a high IQ player on offense and defense. He was also clutch and wanted the ball with the game on the line. His game would work well with the modern rules and he would be all-NBA if he played today, that’s how good he was.
Truly one of the most underrated Hall of Famers in the NBA
Sevey Lee facts, him and elgin baylor so underrated
You can’t be considered a hall of famer and be called underrated
Rick needs to stay on tv legendary
He would be a far superior commentator than either of his sons currently are. Better player and better commentator in one package. He looks great for a 74 year old too.
Bryan Nguyen never heard him speak but I agree 1000%
Rick Barry + Bill Russell, brilliant commentator duo - my favorite. Their comments pretty often were more interesting than the game itself. Great sense of humour
Marian Kostrzewski Definitely!
Please bring Rick on more. So much knowledge and so honest
Boy is Rick Barry on the money or on money on every point he made. A great mind of basketball and a pleasure to watch live as a kid growing up. Go Warriors #24!
When Rick Barry played it was drastically faster paced. Not even close. It seems like its so fast now because between like 98' to 13' was the slowest era ever by far.
One of the great forwards ever!
Taimoor Khan and awfully over looked. dude was a boss.
Taimoor Khan
Julius Erving was better than Rick Barry
😆😆😆😆
This was great! Rick Barry is a scholar and a gentleman. And btw, that draft suggestion is brilliant and very doable. Let's get it done.
Barry was piping hot in this segment. Had a lot to say and great ideas and philosophies.
Totally agree on AAU. Some of the D1 talent guys I know have played over 90 games this year between high school and AAU. This is major travel as well, I am talking several cross country trips for tournaments and then throw in state tournament travel as well. That is a lot for a high school player. Even in 5-12 leagues I am seeing kids play nearly 40-50 games a year between our league and travel ball.
I love that idea to give the number one pick to the 9 seed(s)
Damn I could've listened to this for at least another 30 minutes. Rick Barry has some really great insights into the game of basketball and is great at articulating himself. I hope he gets featured more often on this show.
Dear Colin Cowherd,
How did you not ask Rick Barry about Lavar Ball?
Rick put 3 sons in the NBA.
rick should be an nba commissioner
Rick Barry is 74 years old. Wow, he seems so much younger in how he talks. Great clarity of mind at that age.
8 time champ? Ok what have i missed
Yea he meant to say 8 time All Star lol
This is the man I heard everyone hates. I like him lol.
Mektek19 People typically don’t like others that speak their mind and tell the truth, it’s sad but true.
Well, he was wrong about a few things if we're being honest.
Billy Bob That's your opinion
So, you believe him when he says Westbrook wouldn't have been the same player against Robertson's competition? Lol. He's just a typical old man who thinks his era was greater than it really was and it's called nostalgia. He's one of those naive people who think Bill Russell is one of the top 5 greatest players in NBA history along with Wilt Chamberlain.
In his mind the game isn't improving/evolving. Someone with common sense would look at science and technology for example and if you compared it to the 60's, you'd easily come to the conclusion that it has improved. Then you look at human strength, athleticism and coordination in the Olympics for example. Again comparing current athletes to those from the 60's you can easily compare numbers in track and see athletes are faster. You can compare numbers in power lifting and see athletes are stronger. You can compare numbers in marathons and see athletes have more endurance.
Do you see the pattern here? So, for him to not recognize that basketball is no different and stars of today would be HoF superstars during his era is not only naive, but it shows you just how strong nostalgia really is.
Billy Bob Rick Barry acknowledges a lot of modern players. But it's fact that Westbrook's triple doubles are not in the same competition as Oscar's. Even if you account for higher pace and lower FG% (which leads to more rebound opportunities), Oscar's era was more center dominant and less spaced out which made getting rebounds for non-centers astronomically harder. Westbrook gets 90% of his rebounds from defensive uncontested rebounds which his teammates box out for. He led the league in uncontested shots in his MVP season and also one of the worst the last season. Why? So he could get closer to the rim and grab rebounds. Even his assist numbers are inflated because he has a 42% usage rate.
Next time, don't disrespect older players based on cliched superficial notions.
Better than most of the former NBA bums
Are u dumb?
Considering your life accomplishments
Thank you, Rick!
Cool guy
This guy knows what he’s talking about very cool...
Colin always has good conversations
Actually, there are less possessions now compared to the 1960s. Therefore it would actually be easier for Oscar Robertson to get triple doubles.
Fadi Hannouche colin doesnt know what he talks about he just rambles
Fadi Hannouche they are much more generous now with what they count as an assist though. If you took one dribble back then before scoring, no assist.
You do realize Oscar never had 5 other guys on the team box out for him? Or the fact that in that era spacing was narrow and at least 5 guys were in the paint? Or the fact that 'triple double' wasn't even a thing that Oscar was pursuing every single game.
Totally agree with this. Adam Silver should be listening. 9th Seeds should get the first round pick!
Barry was easily one of the best of all time. Top 15 for sure. A true point forward
I wonder if rob Parker was in today lol
need to have more past players like this dude on the show
70s are underspoken and underatted in general
Too bad it was loaded with drug issues
dionysis e them was regular cats for the most part, these days are different. My boys been working out they whole life real life athletes in EVERY SPORT
dionysis e not aimed at you bro but nostalgia is great. I understand but Colin a old dude who watches lebron stat line and makes fd up analogies
dionysis e Rick Barry is so right though these kids really need more time with fundamentals in sports training teaching their full potential! These days coaches and/or players rely on talent more then really taking the time to study the game with discipline.
dionysis e yeah the Nba wasn't the Nba really until mid-late 70's really with the merger of the ABA. Dr.J won like 2-3 chips in the ABA but he only gets credit for the 1 he won in 83 with the 76ers. Rick Barry left the Warriors played in the ABA Oakland Oaks over contract dispute came back to Warriors. So the lines are blurred
I can listen to this LEGEND all day. Let's just appreciate the knowledge and experience.
Rick Barry and Chris Broussard should have their own show.
Steve Bannon Definitely
I would definitely watch that...
Now I see why he was always my favorite Pro basketball announcer: Dude is brilliant
This was totally correct, even 4 years ago, silver hasn’t held up to sterns toughness and it’s hurting the game. 4 years later, it’s really hurt the game.
Colin has never mentioned this man, let alone thinking he’s one of the greatest players of all time
Liam Owen he means like top 50-100 not top 10. And he has mentioned him
Andrey Smith Rick Barry is EASILY top 50, probably top 30
When Larry Bird came into the league, he was compared to Rick Barry. Rick is an ALL-TIME great. As time passes, he gets forgotten, but his skill is undeniable.
Got that right.
Excellent interview. Rick Barry one of the greatest of all time...Wariors!!!!
So fukin WISE!
I Luv Rick Barry! He's my all-time favorite basketball player. All-Time favorite Golden State Warrior. Even today he is still my Favorite All-Time. Even w/Klay Thompson, Steph Curry, KD, Draymond. Rick Barry is my man. As far as tanking a game. I'll never forget game 7 of the 1976 NBA Western Conference Finals. What happened after the half?
I completely agree. Teams that barely miss the playoffs should get the top draft picks because they tried and just need a little extra to make it. Teams that tank and finish with 20 wins don’t deserve it
“They need to change the draft... 9/10 seeds get 1/2 pick? GENIUS. Dubs legend, what’s new.
Bryan Refuerzo but then maybe the 8th seed will give up their last games game so instead of grtting sweft they get the 1st pick, thinking he is what we're missing to be a top 3 teams instead of number 8 seed
Best interview Colin has had hands down. I’ve watched this 3x already cause it’s so well done.
Colin tried to make a point to diss value today's triple doubles stating that we have more possessions because we play a faster pace today but in reality in Oscar Robertson days the NBA actually played a higher pace and Rick called Colin on it that was hilarious.
Absolutely I don't think Colin watched a single minute of 1960s basketball. They had the highest pace by far. Chamberlain played 48 minutes running back and forth far more than today's era. It makes what LeBron does look like a joke.
First basketball I watched was in October 1967. I was very young then and they were moving so fast. I only understood that the team who put the ball through the basket more times was the one who won.
I love RB! Such a good basketball mind. He, for some reason, has not had the opportunity to coach. He would be fantastic!
I love the idea of giving the most ping pong balls to the teams that just missed the playoffs. Brilliant idea. This dude is great. He's made a lot of enemies, but he seems alright here.
"An injury or an ego" such a great point Colin.
He’s right about what team should get top draft pick
Excellent point about the draft
WOW!!! Jerry West and Rick Berry talking basketball. How with a front office with these two can you not win?
I love me some rick barry the guy says the truth all day!
I’ve been watching basketball for 20 years and I learned today from listening to rick. He said if you center leads the league in blocked shots, your defense sucks. I never thought of it that way
Rick Barry Hall of Famer the only man to lead the NCAA ABA and NBA in Scoring!!!!
Rick Barry nailed it on the draft teams that just miss it should get the top 3 picks
Rick Barry aka Basketball Clint Eastwood
Great Talent,Great outlook on the game and the young kids coming up.
Loved this interview.... Best in a long time. Now there's a true basketball mind and man. Well done Colin
I like his view on the draft picks.
Edit
Shout out to granny free throws
Wow, I would love to see him do an interview with a respectable name like Bill Simmons
Rick preach tell this man about the game back in the day.
Word was that the reason the Warriors didn't repeat was because there was a fight that broke out in a playoff game and non of his teammates stepped up to help Barry.
So he refused to shoot in the second half.
This man is a typical example of a player of the past who is miles ahead of most of today small forwards not to mention his iq and other intangables those who watched him in the seventies should already know these things too bad most of these journalists are not giving the real but colin is the real deal
I can listen to him all day.
Oscar Robertson's Triple-Double Season's Pace: 124.9
Russell Westbrook's 2 Triple-Double Season's Pace: 97.8 & 96.7
Total Team Rebounds Per Game in 1962 Season: 142.8
Total Team Rebounds Per Game in 2018 Season: 87.0
I hope you were making a case for Westbrook when you brought up pace of game Colin.
Stats can be inflated by Pace and many other factors.
I am not saying that Westbrook is better than Oscar. But sometimes we need to stop looking at the PAST with rose-colored glasses. At the same time we don't have to be manipulated by the hype of the NOW.
Barry's intelligence, eloquence, and athleticism was a major influence to all of his children. Daddy did well.
Great player....one of the legitimate all time greats....top 5 SF of all time. Very high basketball IQ and articulate, why isn't he on your show more? ?
►►► RICK BARRY = THE ORIGINAL LAVAR BALL ◄◄◄
Scored Great.
Put 3 Sons in the League.
BALLER.
Amazing guest. Great video 👍🏼
Brilliant interview
Imagine Rick Berry having a 3 point line in the NBA. He probably had even better range than Jerry West.
More Rick Barry Please !!!!!!!
11:31 russell westbrook shot🤣
Oscar Robertson is highly underrated these days.
Rick has a great basketball mind - yes, sharp edges but very smart
Ladies and gentlemen, Hanamichi Sakuragui’s free throw inspiration.
Rick Barry is right and this is what people dont get "Oscar just played, Westbrook is trying to get TDs"
Old guys constantly think they were playing against Viking’s those days. Everything is better and harder today. Shooting, dribbling, strength, speed, coaching, money, cameras angles etc etc etc
Agree with Mr.Barry, first five draft picks should go to teams who just missed the playoffs...like Denver, LA Clippers...Teams that wins 35 to 40 games should get the initial picks...not those teams which resort to tanking....
Reminded me of Adidas "Top Ten" sneakers. Great shoes.
Crazy how they’re talking about steph being injury prone in this video, but in the 2019 playoffs he was the only Warrior’s only star left standing after KD and Klay went out 😭
►►► RICK BARRY = LAVAR BALL 1.0 ◄◄◄
its better than the starter..
very unbiased
2 years later before the 2020-21 Nets season Colin is calling KD a leader. What changed without him playing?
this guy is awesome
If not for Wilt Chamberlain Rick Barry would have led the NBA in scoring several times instead of once.
True legend
Kobi would agree. AAU is not good for kids. He said that European ball teaches fundamentals. Not USA.
I been like Rick Barry
People dont know how good rick barry was
At the end I think he saying Tristan and Bennet waiters all bad picks
The underhanded free ft goat!!!
Barry doesn't have any respect for players that don't play hard all the time? Didn't Barry himself quit playing hard in a playoff game that cost his team the championship?
Yup I remember that. I think it was in the playoffs the year after they won the NBA title in 1975. I believe he keep passing the ball and refused to shoot
Jerry West built the warriors. A great basketball mind. Red Auerbach built the Celtics. Rick is the only person that can hold his own with those two and may be win a few over them. Your team ain't trying if your organization does not include Rick or Jerry.
Rick Barry is real
If the Warriors make the finals, it’ll be 4 straight trips to the finals, that’s a lot of wear and tear on the body, you get 3 months to recover basically from June to October, it builds up quickly.
OJ’s Knife Which makes LeBron look even more insane because he's been to 7 straight
Wade County well if I was spending a million dollars on my body, I better make the finals 7 straight times with no injuries lol
OJ’s Knife Its not just that, his natural athleticsm and great body mechanics has a lot to do with it
have Ricky on more Colin
Rick Barry > Rob Parker
Houston was the greatest offense in nba history all but a few games this year nobody wants to respect the fact we won 65 games and was 41-2 when capella, harden and cp3 played and the fact all 3 of our stars missed like 50 games all together wich means Houston is probably a 72 73 win basketball team.
But sucked in the playoffs against Golden State. 0-3 if I remember correctly
2 9th Seeds 50 50 Chance 1 and 2 in the Draft
Colin has it so backwards 1960s nba was played at a much higher pace than they do now.
