Creators note:
Hello, my name is Zackary Smigel. I've been creating UA-cam videos since I was a kid. I started UA-cam full-time about five years ago. You might have seen me from Real Estate License Wizard, where I obtained 60,000 subscribers and over 5 million channel views. I have since left that channel for creative pursuits, and this is my first crack at starting something new. I'd appreciate a like and subscribe if this content interests you and I captured your attention for even just a few moments.
On a secondary note, this is my second video using this style and format. The second time using a green screen and these editing techniques, I know the audio and the green screen key weren't perfect. This time around, I think my audio improved but I was having greenscreen issues. Still, I think this was an improvement and keep learning after every video. I promise you, my viewer, that I will improve my technique as I create more entertaining content.
Thanks so much for watching,
Zackary Smigel

the intro feels like you're trying to sell a computer using course to 60 year olds
I am over 60. I have been a discord member for a few years. In fact I started using computers and the internet way back before many current viewers were likely even born. So slamming "old people" for lack of skills is.. well inaccurate. Younger people may have become familiar with computer use at a much younger age but that doesn't mean they know it all. Trust me, I've helped many young people that couldn't solve what I consider to be the simplest problems.
@@galanieThis… THANK YOU!
@@galanieits simply generalization/stereotyping, something we all make the mistake of doing sometimes
there will always be people that break those stereotypes, but also people who reinforce them
Honestly I could do with a video like this on Reddit so any time my mum asks “what a Reddit is?” I can easily explain it with one very well made comprehensive video
CGP Grey did one a few years ago.
One word, 'Discord.' Two Words, 'Discord, Discord.' Three words, 'Discord, Discord, Discord. - Zack
Wise Words From A Wise Man
Yay! Discord has shown us what Internet Relay Chat taught us back in the 90's
...Except you can't host your own servers and they will ban you if you're using anything but their own spying and bloated client :)
wanton hurling of racial slurs? that was my experience anyway... 😕
@@mongrel_97 There's always somebody doing dumb shit somewhere
Wow I must've missed the boat on discord cause trying to use the platform makes me feel like 90yr old man.
A big Asterisk with the discord server being good in terms of growing as a creator. Still some caution is advised. In the case of the Hit or Miss girl for instance the discord set up helping to boost her career actually became very bad and toxic. So yeah, discord can be great, but you really have to just have luck with the audience you attract.
If anyone knows the youtuber koifish, their discord server is literally full of racists and nazis, as another example.
Hmmm. I’ve only recently visited discord to follow an issue that was going on with Etsy users and, oh boy, is discord confusing. However, as Im an artist and I loath all the other major social media apps, I’m curious to explore discord more. Great video!
As an artist who uses discord regularly, it can be a great way to meet others within your art community and get more well-known within it, it just depends on how active you're willing to be! I wouldn't call it a replacement for social media, though, since there's much lower reachability in terms of finding new audiences, and doesn't make much of a reliable gallery for new fans to look back on your catalogue. That's just my two cents, though, I definitely recommend finding a community and putting yourself out there. I used to lurk, but recently I've been trying to be more sociable and I've already made some wonderful friends!
Please help the old lady at 11:38 🙌🙌🙌
She keeps ringing the bell and won't stop until I give her a cracker....oh wait that's just Blue the Macaw.
Also I’m so glad that old lady has finally been let out her cage!
Nice. Pretty good long form videos on this channel so far.
Appreciate that! Aiming to consistently do that!
I’ve only tried Discord once, had a bad experience. However, it was the people in the group that were the issue. I might try it again after watching this. Anyone know where I can get a discord tutor lol?
Never thought I would enjoy a video about discord so much, haha. 😁
Your videos are great man! This video was so informative!
I appreciate that! Thanks for the comment and kind words!
@@ZackarySmigelYou looked so confident during the video which I would not be able to do and you’re editing and Cuts complimented it SO well!
i'm so glad i'm getting in on the ground floor of the zackary club
Wonderful vid, glad I've been checking out more of your content
This was on my recommended. Good work, you earned my sub.
Appreciate that!
Almost every Discord server has this one mod who just changes the whole mood when he goes online. Yes, you know exactly what kind of mod i mean 😆
Kind of like in school, when the kids where in class and the teacher didn't arrive yet. As soon as the teacher gets in, the fun time is over and the whole mood changes.
If the mod is just a cringelord its not that bad. But if the mod is a power abuser, who dosen't lose its mod role because of some special connections to the admin, sometimes whole conversations die out simply because of this mods presence.
This happened to almost every Discord server i ever joined, no matter what or who the server was about.
The power trip some discord mods get from there is just... weird. A lot of them just spend too much time on Discord i guess.
Never experienced this on TeamSpeak which is why i still prefer that when i just want do talk with buddies while gaming.
Also, TS is so light and fast, that even the cheapest, outdated potato PC can run it while gaming.
But ofc it lacks the whole Subculture part, which ofc both has it good and bad sides.
Is TimeSpeak have video streaming? :o We with my friend like watching movies together but it’s annoying that you can’t stream it through discord in full resolution for free…
Some mod teams get weirdly touchy about specific things, too, which means the community ends up hesitant to bring up concerns or suggestions. I'm in one that's really wonderful and overall a great experience, but the mods get weirdly aggressive if anyone asks about adding a bot or extra role, and it's always uncomfortable when new members stumble into this apparent faux-pas
i'm SO glad i'm only in sound groups these days (IRL and online...) i hate interpersonal drama so much i just wanna talk about dumb shit
Insane how sending something on discord can get the military to your door, i know its classified documents but still.
your videos are so good definitely deserve more than 115 subscribers
good news
@@blaise931😂
Thanks for the server boost!
LET THAT POOR WOMAN OUT RIGHT NOW
The server profile feature may be new, but one part of it has been around for a long time: The nicknames
Woah another video already? This dudes quick with it
New video every week until I get monetized! Then probably one every other week, but expect regular content indefinitely.
I met my husband on discord, he moved continents for me
I still remember beluga when it was Explore Lucid Dreaming's second channel, originally called "survival mode" or something like that
IMO, the major driving force behind discord is the absence of ads! It feels so nice to have a safe haven without popups, sponsors, flashing ads on the side!
I was drawn to discord because of this (it reminds me of old MSN and ICQ chats), and it's invite system. Trolls are kicked out quickly, and there is moderation ( *cough! * not like X...).
who tf goes online without blocking ads anyway
Discord is exhausting. I hate it and im there because there are so many people i dont know anywhere else
Hoping someday someone will do a deep dive on all the shady stuff Stanislav did before Discord. Seems all the account stealing shenanigans he did got purged from the olde web.
You didn't include the terrible behavior of mods and admins? I'm still trying to figure out if Reddit or Discord mods are worse.
Depends. Well I never had bad experiences with either (mainly because I'm not really active on reddit and am mostly just on smaller discord servers (mostly about modding and some smw streamers)
ok, ngl, for the dumbest reason, I can't stop giggling when you say "mod culture" My brain keeps going to "punks vs mods".
Under 150 subs and making bangers like this? A crime!
Appreciate that! Hopefully I'll have more subs soon!
My dad’s friend group was using it mostly for just staying connected and memes (with some gaming) for many years before seemingly everyone was using it. Back then, if I asked someone about it, they would have no idea what I was talking about, but look at it now.
Wow this is incredibly elequent
Discord make bring joy happy :D
"So yea, discord culture can be pretty bad" i don't think leaking government documents has ANYTHING to do with discord culture... but ok
Every time I see that light theme youtube page / Discord interface, it catches me off guard lol
Ok back now. From 20 minutes of composing a 4 note Etude for the ArowSynth.
Cool video, I learned a few things!
I thought this would delve into the darker sides of discord
Random UA-camrs making the 7309285748484399th video about Discord predators:
No ads? Subbed
underrated
good shit
I made my Discord account in 2016, but I struggle to get into it. I've joined many servers but I feel like I just get ignored.
I don't get how servers can go anywhere.
unironically read How To Win Friends & Influence People, it's this old book from the 1950s. it's all about business shit but its also a great lesson for general discussion "ettiquette" i guess. how to genuinely have a discussion in order to make connections for example. check it out
my favourite "easter egg" is amoled optimized mode. tap the dark mode button a bunch of times on mobile
i love your videos i subsribed
Nice!
top egg i wonder if the whole script is written by chatgpt
this is what Ive been thinking through all his videos kek
I’m just here for the memes my dude. :>
Nice I liked ur recent vid and this is good too, thx btw
Great video
Appreciate that!
I thought ICQ was fine. I thought Roger Wilco was fine. I thought Teamspeak was fine. I think Discord is fine.
🤩🙏
awesome video! glad to be apart such an amazing culture
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the video. You capture the essence of the culture so well in a funny and raw way. Indeed an art form, and you are the artist. Thanks again!
is the intro a reference to NakeyJakey?
Are you the Pablo guy's picture?
I only recently Downloaded discord!
i'm sorry for your loss
gud vid
nakey jakey vs dressed james
discord is a cess-pool
I have problems with discord management
Discord is the new reddit. Not a compliment.
yeah, guilded is basically just discord minus the weirdos & creeps anyway, which is why i use it instead
We watched this video next to our friend of nearly five years and roommate of seven months who we met through a discord undertale roleplay server advertised to smaller creators in the community (it wasn't a HUGE event with big names in it). Something so niche it could only ever exist on discord. and I'll never not be grateful for that. -- the hope system
embarrassing comment
@@secretlyamonkey Why?? Just because you're embarrassed about having interests doesn't mean everyone else has to be xD
Describing discord as 'weird' makes it sound like you're too close to the issues and don't know it yet.
Teamspeak was much more gangsta
cool vid but was definitely from a youtube creator perspective instead of the average users experience, kind of base level discussion of the platform tbh

why the hell does this have so few views and likes!! this is awesome
*Discord's

i was looking for an eating disorder support server and i only found links to pro ana servers 😂 i was so confused when i saw the horrible thinspo pictures (ive never heard that term before joining these servers) which are full of children aged 11-14. Discord should really monitor their servers
its a fine video, but as someone with no money, dont like that the paywalled features are lumped in with free ones with no distinction & the whole platform is made to come across as free in this video, which it isnt. not even a mention of nitro. not a fan of that at all.
Your sub count is very sub par to your content wow. I know this guys gunna get big
alternate title "why mom should let me use discord"
I hope that Beluga part was joke.
It was. But I guess it didn't land!
@@ZackarySmigel its ok, beluga and jokes not landing typically go hand in hand!
Discord is disgusting
Beluga is the least funny man alive
I'm tired of trying new platforms. Discord was confusing and terribly boring, so for elder millennials it just doesn't seem like our world on there. Oh well. At least I can remember the good old days of livejournal and Myspace :)
Good video this was very useful 👍👍
