Guys, if you dont want fuel to piss all over the place like in the video, remove your fuel pump fuses, crank the car few times to remove pressure from all the fuel lines.

Thank you for making and posting this video! It made all the difference in doing the work ourselves! Including transferring 20 gallons of fuel, the job took us about two hours and now it runs like new again!
This video was very helpful. I ended up replacing both pumps filter,relay.. I figured, if I'm doing all this work for one and I'm disconnecting hoses from both, why not change the pumps while I'm there? Of course I bought the parts little by little and with this pandemic, i really had no need for my car..just watched a ton of youtube videos and did the job..the car starts with no issue and runs great..I made one mistake, I didnt seat the o ring properly so I had spillage of gas all over the place but once fixed, it's all good.
I have 07 Audi Q7 and I'm accessing the fuel pumps in the fuel tank. I have full access to one on driver side but carpet and seat rail are covering the 4th 10mm nut which covers the fuel pump for passenger side. I'm doing the service to determine whether the pump is faulty from pressure stand point. So being I'm in one of the pumps why not do them both with new pumps and filters there...as I am going to change the high pressure fuel rail pressure sensor also. May change the high pressure pump as well. I'm not grasping how did he get the transfer hose re ran from passenger side over to the driver side to be reconnected to the fuel pump there..🤔 !!!

Nice video, but question for you: I replaced Both Pumps, however on the Left Side Pump, I cannot get the Fuel Filter back on after connecting the "Blue" Hose from the Fuel Pump to the Fuel Filter housing. The Blue hose line is getting pinched and is so still it will not close. Do you have any recommendations?
Gentlemen!!! Thank you very much for both your Touareg videos! Y menya problema - esli mojete posovetovat' budu blagodaren ochen' silno! I just bought the same, 2004 V8 Touareg.... drove it from ohio to new jersey, and after getting more gas before crossing the bridge to NY, the car started - worked for about 10-15 seconds and shut off... its like this everytime, for the same amount of time... Now there are a million problems with this car... it had 9 codes, the guy that changed the oil in ohio put 5w40, for diesel engines (found this out after gettting to NY, with every possible light on the dash turned on) The key is stuck and the button on the gear console is pushed in (gears can freely shift up and down). This was done after I put too much force (aka viebal eie v Park ot zlosti kogda doehali, turning on and off about 500 times)... So step by step I want to learn about how things work, and at the same time fix this car. (My business partner has a auto dismantling /container loading biz in New Jersey with all possible tools, lifts etc that I can use to try and fix the car my self)... Any ideas on the shift handle (get the button out) so no one steals my car lol? and possibly the break light (and annoying constant sound it makes thinking the car has the break on?) I will begin with testing the fuel pumps... is there a video on how to change the fuel filter? (if fuel filter is clogged, is it possible the pump will not work well?) Any suggestions, will really help. Your videos are great, thank you so much once again.

sounds like you have a problem with the main pump. the one on the pass side... i think. they both turn on at start up, but then the supply pump turns off after several seconds... sounds like the starts from supply pump, but then when the supply pump turns off the main pump is not working.
Thanks so much for your reply!Hmm... Is it possible for the fuse/relay to be blown? Or maybe the sending unit or fuel filter clogged of the main pump?

EDGEMOTORS Hey. I pulled out the first 404 Relay (if looking at the windshield, its the one closer to you (on the left, in first box). The car doesn't die anymore, and functions with not as much power but perfectly fine. I am guessing if one pump is turned off, the other pump works full time. I tried to find out which pump that relay is responsible for but failed. Would you know which one? This would really help. Also, if I get the car to you, will you be able to fully diagnose the problems (with good certainty) and how much would that cost (a full diagnostic).

Hi, when my car has been standing over night or for a few hours it takes alot of turning over to get it started, almost like there is no fuel there, could this be one of the pumps in the tank. There is no smoke of any kind once started so not a glow plug issue. It's like the fuel system looses its pressure, thanks
do i need to change both? my VW 2004 v8 runs for 10 seconds then it shuts off. which one should i change? the one behind the passenger seat or the one behind the driver seat?

in my touareg i got p0455 evap leak, but is no where to see any leak, but i hear bubble noise coming from passenger side pump, also i can hear pump working.i should hear either the pump or any pumping bubble that coulb related? or is coincidence? pls help!
Thank you for your help. This video was priceless and helped me immensely in installing two new fuel pumps. The vehicle now starts and runs whereas before it would start for 10--15 seconds and then die. However now it takes about 5 seconds of cranking to start where before it would start right when I turned the key... Do I have a leak?
Based on my symptoms I have a fuel pressure leak somewhere after doing this installation :(. If I start the vehicle i the morning after sitting it takes 5-10 seconds of cranking (fuel pump priming the pressure) to get it started. If I've just started it and shut it off and restart, it fires right up.
This sucks because I'm an on call firefighter and those seconds are precious for my community. I'm hoping someone can help me isolate where I'm losing pressure. I replaced both fuel pumps and the filter, but not the filter housing itself.

Hey dudes be careful Don't use a metal hummer to hit to another metal that can create 🔥and you have the gas to near!!!!!!!! Use a gum hummer
Good point. I’m assuming its a diesel car. Cos Diesel isn’t so volatile as it usually only ignites when compressed. Unless you apply a naked flame to it of course.
Can you please let me know where is the fuel filter located?
I changed the pump but I think the filter needs to be changed as well.

hi Edgemotors i have an issue that im trying to solve on my 07 v6 3.2 my high pressure fuel pump started leaking and i replace it now i have a cel for (n276) open circuit sporadic i replaced it twice and have the same code im getting hard start and when it does start it idles fine but when i accelerate its like its lacking fuel if i step on it but when i ease into the throttle it responds fine, thats the oly code i have at idle but when driving i get misfire codes a low fuel rail pressure code please help
Where is the fuel float sending unit? Didn't notice it in the video at any point and my gas gauge is only reading empty so I believe I'll have to change the float unit out is why I ask

Why was the fuel pump replaced Was it for code p2294?
So for the leak, we just need to replace the fuel pump flange/filter? Not the whole fuel pump correct?

Have a 2004 V8 Touareg. It sat for a year now when I turn it over the fuse for fuel pump blows. Do both fuel pumps need to be replaced? Car was running great before.
Sounds like it could be an electrical ussue. Were you able to get this solved?

I have a 2004 touareg diesel v10. I went to change the fuel filter as per your video. I opened up the drivers side compartment for the fuel pump. The plastic housing had the bottom removed and there was no filter. It appears that there was a fuel pump similar to the one you replaced in the tank. I did not take it out. I did not open the passengers side. The filter that I received appeared much larger than the housing. Could it be that the fuel pump had been replaced?
Fuel filter of a diesel Touareg is located between the cylinder heads on the engine... it’s a different setup

So how did you get the hose from the other side which you indicated must be disconnected to remove the fuel pump from passenger side, that you went into driver side side fuel pump and disconnected the hose. The helper then pulled out passenger side fuel pump with transfer hose attached to it. How did you then get transfer hose to driver side from passenger side inside the fuel tank in order to reconnect transfer hose to the new installed fuel pump on driver side being the transfer hose is connected to passenger side fuel pump?
You have to open both sides, make sure you have as low as possible fuel level, or you will have lots of damaged skin by the time you snake that hose to the other side, I usually tie a rope to it so you can use it to snake the new hose back in

The pressure regulator controls the pressure… most likely the actual motors(pumps) are the same

You guys are dong a great job for ONE PAIN IN THE ASS FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT! Some are all in one with the ascending unit! Big bucks. What is this a $500-$700 job? with the parts? Because a friend of mine her fuel pump went out on the Tiguan. And looking at this? ...Screw it! She can get a mechanic to do it! What ever happened to where they were located towards the front (On american cars) and took maybe 45 minutes on a lift to do AHHH THE LUXURY OF AIR TOOLS...I am drooling!

Christopher thomas it was actually easier than I thought. This video was great to follow. the hardest part is removing the wire harnesses inside the tank without breaking the clips. be careful, but definitely doable. I am by no means mechanically inclined.

if I removed the fuse for the primary fuel pump, can I still drive it to and from work 30 min each way for a week until the new pumps arrive?

No, the secondary fuel pump only engages for the first 20-30 sec and under full throttle... so theoretically yes if you start your car and go full throttle all the way to work:) just kidding... allot of damage and injuries will occur:) if you do that

I drove my cayenne turbo all over the place after I pulled the main pump fuse. I took it easy but still you'd never know one of the pumps was dead!!
You pulled the secondary pump fuse.
@@EDGEMOTORS can you kindly explain then why disabling the secondary pump causes the engine to run fine? I assume it electrically forces the primary to run even at idle? Ty

Hi. My 2004 Touareg V8 working fine, just started and stays about 30 sec and goes off! Will that be fuel pump? I can run the car for about 30 sec and has full power but it turns off. I am assuming it is fuel pump.
P.S I hate this car and I love it at same time. Small, Heavy** VS Strong, Fast..** what a hell!??

@@ronaldnunezor I ended up selling the car... Well that V8 of VW no one wants to deal with that. I have noticed that even the specialized dealer ov Audi/VW didn't want to deal with V8 version 😭. One guy checked the pump but he said the pump was fine. Couldn't fix it. Car running for like 30 second and shuts off. Starts right away and has full power though...no stalling those 30 are complet normal. Loved the car for power and speed was amazing. But now killed my dream of that V8 engine of those Audi/porches and... Traded the car for $2500
@@ronaldnunezor For '04/'05 Touareg V8, Passenger-side pump is the culprit. I'm replacing that now, along with left-side fuel filter/housing. I'm not doing left-side pump yet, because it is expensive and it is working fine. The Driver Side pump primes the motor before start and adds fuel when you floor it... Passenger-side is the one that causes engine to stall after 30 sec. or so. (This is assuming there aren't other isssues, of course...). I realize my Treg V8 resale value isn't even that of the pumps and labor to replace them, but I love the Touareg, and hope to keep it running for a while longer. Cheers.

@@ronaldnunezor I got all my parts, including fuel filter/housing from PartsGeek. The VW oem parts are $500 each. Bosch or Conti are less and s/b fine.

Yes, you just drained most of the fuel system, so it will take a bit of time to fill back up

I'm about to change mine on an 05 v8. Mine started then it would shutdown. Then I changed the filter, it started stayed for an hour then turned it off. Now it cranks but wont start. I'm thinking it's the passenger side fuel pump since the driver side is trying to start it but wont start. I bought both pumps and flang for the driver side. Do I need to take out the fuses, the two 14 fuses and both 404 right and left pump relays when performing the job. It's my first attempt...also any battery disconnection?
My Vw starts and about 1 or 2 mins it goes off then I which it on and starts again what could be the problem?

I replace my primary pump but the truck will shut off five minutes later why? Do i need to replace the other pump ? Or is something else that is affecting my primary pump?
it looks like you replaced the secondary pump.... cause the secondary pump shuts off after about 30sec after start....

+Crystal W if your car cuts out after 30 sec, your main pump is bad. easy to check which pump is main and which is supply. check voltage at the pumps when you start the car the supply pump will turn off after 30sec of running, the main pump supposed to keep the voltage going. but when you lift the seat up and expose the pump doors and make sure all the fuses are ok and you get voltage at both pumps for the first 30 sec, then you could listen to both of them and you should be able to hear which one is working and which one is not. at that point take the one thats not running out...

I have this same issue 2008 touareg 2 v8. Im about to throw towel in 150k miles everuthing else is fine expect for this fuel pump issue. Mine would cut off between 30-40 seconds and sometimes it will turn on and get me to work and back home . 20 miles there and back.
Did you try replacing the passenger side pump?
Seat belt bracket torque specs: 50 NM

I guess it’s a trained habit... it’s allot harder to remember where all the wires go on a Lexus hybrid battery then couple of hoses hoses in the Touareg tank:)

They run at thesaurus time, only on start up and full throttle...
@@EDGEMOTORS i figurured out the second one also runs when your gastank is almost empty (in the red). I can hear them Both run at that time. I have a Lean condition 25+ fuel trims when my fuel tank is not in the red but lean condition disapears when the tank is almost empty (in the red) and both pumps are running. Is my primary pump (half)busted or do you guys think its the filter that is dirty?

@@EDGEMOTORS wasnt the filter... changed it but still same issue. so im guessing the main fuel pump is faulty. when the fuel tank almost empty (and both pumps are running) trim values good. then i stop engine and remove the 404 relay for the second pump. start again and the fuel trim values are crappy again +25 on both banks so lean condition comes back.
Always replace the fuel filter, it will leaks! We had seen 2010, 2009 leaking fuel.

Can everyone on this Earth please stop referring to left or right side of a vehicle. There's no such thing. There is only a driver's side or a passenger side.
