Thanks for the video! I never had proper tools or money as a kid - thus I developed all kind of ghetto cowboy ways of fixing things - there's so much stuff one can do with pliers and hammer. :)
Excellent video, gave me the info I needed to get it done! I used to often do these 30 years ago, but had trouble with my kids bike, the thing was hell tight. It didn’t have the slots, tried bashing it and in the end I cut it with the grinder, disassembled the ratchet and used a pipe wrench to get it off.
Good video, this will work. Just offering info, if you do want a "special tool" for this 2-notch, it is a Sun Tour 2-notch, sold by Park as FR-2. I use it when I want to re-use the freewheel with no damage.
Hey man - thanks for the tip - - - i got one issue though - when i pedal it slips....then it pedals again....and slips - any idea what that could be? i remove the back wheel and it seems its at the cog , when i spin it , it spins both ways..... what could be the problem? any help would be appreciated. Thank you
Fair play for perseverance; surprised you ever got it off with that first chisel and butchery; did you spray it with penetrating spray and leave it overnight first?
The video is about removing the gear, not preserving it , once that gear is off it is replaced so damaging it does not matter as long as it comes off. You have missed the point of the video
Hi, you would need to change from freewheel to a fixed sprocket, or get a flip flop hub with a sprocket on one side and a freewheel on the other so you can switch the wheel around for easy options
I’m enjoying the bike so far ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

Your welcome bud, my childhood was exactly the same 😂😂

never knew how to remove. thanks man. dont need a bike shop now
Nice one. I am going to convert my cycle into electric which needs change of axle and this video will be helpful in removing the free wheel..
Thanks.
Your welcome pal
Thanks a bunch saved me some tinkering time.
Your welcome buddy
Awesome, got a few BMXs that I'm restoring so this info will come in useful. Couldn't help but notice the accent, I'm from Stourbridge.
Great video, tried 2 different bike shops and they couldn’t help, done what you done and got it off 👍
Awesome glad it helped 😊
Thanks! This was most helpful.
Cheers mate. Finally a solution.
bros a damn lifesaver

Hey mate. Your clutches in the freewheel have gone, could be sticking however more then likely it will need replacing, cheap replacements on eBay 👍
@@retrobikestuff760 Thanks alot bra, i got a spare laying here, ill replace and see how it goes - appreciate your reply
@@nyutron3862 no worries 😉

Hi
My kid cycle which has coaster break
Free wheel slips pedal moves freely on bothways
What could be possible fix ?
Freewheel clutches sticking or worn
Replace freewheel for what that cost 👍
@@retrobikestuff760
Today I disassembled & its spring is broken
Fair play for perseverance; surprised you ever got it off with that first chisel and butchery; did you spray it with penetrating spray and leave it overnight first?
Mine was really stuck on so I took one little ring off then took it apart then I used a pipe wrench for the last part
If you do it this way. You want to use a punch that is made from softer metal, like brass, so you minimize the damage to the gear.
The video is about removing the gear, not preserving it , once that gear is off it is replaced so damaging it does not matter as long as it comes off.
You have missed the point of the video
Will this work on a 6 speed freewheel bro?
Yeah same method mate 👍
@@retrobikestuff760 thank you bro
This is a great video I was about to buy one of those tools for free wheel removal and tightening
Thank you 😊
I have the same rim and sprocket. What kind of sprocket did you replace it with?
I didn’t Mate
Single speed sprocket for this one, usually 16t
good job well done👍🏻
Thank you 😊
Very cool
Brilliant thanks
Awesome!
thanks mate
Thanks tool is called a cold Chisel
😂
and grind the head of that cold chisel before someone hurts themselves!
Lol
But can i reuse it?, and transfer it to a new hub?
Yes
As long as it's a freewheel type hub and not a cassette type hub
Finally the solution. Thx
Your welcome 👍👍
A little heat from a torch might get it to come loose faster
you should try service this freewheel it'll make for a good video
Yeah you right ! 👍
Thank you
Love it
Its not working
Lmao
I tried to use this method to remove my sprocket, but only managed to cut the tabs. Where can I get the proper wrench to remove the sprocket?
@James Simmons Bike shop bro🤘
Depends, some don’t have a specific tool like the one in my video, the tool has 4 square sides that slot into the freewheel
Hi
How do i make my bmx a fixie?

Спасибо! Брат))
Lol now it’s destroyed from not having the correct tools
It was fine pal no issues lol, if you have the tool then fair enough however some people want to do it the cheaper more risky way
I just need the gear ⚙️
That method works but it tears up up the old freewheel.don’t do the same with new installation.
That’s correct as mentioned in the video 🙄
@@retrobikestuff760 your video had sound issues so I didn’t catch that🙄🙄
@@hollywoodjoe3259 I know bro I’m terrible
@@retrobikestuff760 no you cool
You're being too gentle I think. Just give it a few good whacks.
Slow and steady wins the race 😂
You have spent hundreds on your BMX bike. Why can you not spend a few to buy the proper tool?
More people don’t have the ‘proper tool’ then do, just the way it is
Wowwwwwwwwwwwwww
halu
Ghetto way is the best way THUG LIFE NIGGHHA
Worst way to do it
Why are you here then if your such an expert, you idiot
