    I am moving to Kaneohe next week from Los Angeles, California and my daughter lives in Honolulu. One thing I've noticed about drivers on the island of Oahu is that they are far more polite and considerate of others than those here on the mainland, especially in Los Angeles County. There is very little speeding, if any, far less tailgating, and few drivers cut in front of others in a rush to get to their destination. Every time I drive in downtown L.A. my blood pressure rises and I come home with a tension headache. It will be a refreshing relief to be able to drive like a normal human being and not have to worry about the unsafe antics of other crazy drivers such as we have here in California on a daily basis. Can't wait to make Kaneohe my new home. Thanks for an outstanding video!!!

    Thanks Maila! I love Kane’ohe even though I live in Kaimuki/Mo’ili’ili! I went school at WCC, worked out in Kaneohe Bay photographing tourist with scuba gear on and some jet skis and canoe. Worked at He’eia Elementary +A, went up Haiku stairs couple times, walk the old Pali road under the Pali Hwy bunch of times, many beach days at Kualoa and going out to Chinamans Hat. My moms side grew up in Ka’a’awa and we spent plenty weekends of my younger life there and hiking up to the bunker. Went hiking and camping in the back of Waiahole plenty before they closed access to the back of the valley. Awesome episode!!! ❤

    I lived on the island when I was a kid in the '60's and still remember my first view of Kaneohe from the Pali; stunning. I told my parents I wanted to live there. Took my wife there last year and told her this is the place I wanted to live when I was a kid, now she knows why. Great video, thanks for sharing. Mahalo.

    All of life is a moment in time and place. In 1976 our company held it's Christmas party at Haiku Gardens. I escorted Evelyn, our married job site secretary, 14 years my senior.
    Joann Lau, our office secretary whom I had asked out ( she did not have her engagement ring on) showed up with her elongated professorial looking fiancee. A man who looked
    ill at ease in social settings. Joann and I made eye contact and knew we were with the wrong person.
    Down haiku rd. and across the Kam hwy is a street called Punalei Place. In 1984 a girl by the name of Caitlin Doughty would grow up on that street and eventually work with me
    in the San Francisco Bay Area. She would go on to become a UA-cam personality and write a book " SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES" and I'd be a character in it.
    This illustrates the. incongruous nature of life.
    Maila, Mahalo Nui Loa for the video and the bitter sweet memories of Kaneohe. (mostly sweet)

    I grew up in Kane’ohe from the days of the Old Pali Hwy that wound through the spooky Nu’uanu forests and down the steep face of Konahuanui. My favorite memory was driving to UH up the Likelike Hwy in the mornings and enjoying the sight of the bright sunlight on the fluted face of the Ko’olaus creating alternating vertical visions of bright sunlit greens and dark shadows. In my hanabadda days, Kane’ohe was a sleepy town with wooden sidewalks and Filipino barbershops, Kumuhula Kau’i Zuttermeister overseeing her Halau with a very young Noenoe beautifully demonstrating her mother’s instructions, running behind the mosquito truck in the cloud of DDT spewing out its back, flying kites in an open grassy field where Windward City SC now sits and reaching into the cold water of a barrel to pull out a block of tofu at the original Yoshimoto store. All gone now, replaced by crowds of people and bumper to bumper traffic. But that’s progress I guess.

    As a visitor to Kaneohe I was surprised by the large mall there and finding a parking space among hundreds or thousands of vehicles was a challenge. The mall that day had a great farmer’s market. I never got the vibe of small town, rather a suburban feel. Housing outrageously expensive but mediocre quality for our price range.

    What would you say, percentage wise, would the average amount of cloudy/sunny days be in Kaneohe?

    • @mailagibson6787
      @mailagibson6787 Рік тому +1

      Great question! According to Google, it gets rain 1 out of 2 days. This explains why it’s so green when the rest of the island sees its most green months in the winter. It’s not gloomy and cloudy for months on end like the Pacific Northwest. My experience with Kaneohe is that it has some of the most glorious, sunny mornings, but by the afternoon (for the most part) the clouds roll in. Plus, it loses full sun earlier than the rest of the island because of the Ko’olau mountains. Short answer: if you’re a maximum sunshine type of person, it’s probably not going to be your favorite place to live.

    • @gardenia8085
      @gardenia8085 11 місяців тому +1

      I've been living in Kaneohe 3 yrs now and we love the cloudy and sunny days both. The clouds keep it cooler when other parts of the island are hot. But even with clouds, it's never cold, usually high 70s - high 80s. We like the variety of the weather and wouldn't want to be in Kapolei/Ewa area, too dry and hot for us.

    This place absolutely isn't nothing compared to what my sister is telling me that the hospital and the homeless shelter isn't a nice place to look for help as she's trying to do right now June 2024!!!
    Personally, my sister is an idiot for moving there with her little daughter and the fact that she's homeless too, and apparently the homeless shelter at this location has policies that are right next to the definition of communism and filled with homeless criminals who steals personal properties that belongs to others;
    Now, do you think Hawaii is a nice place to live at, I don't think so;
    This damn video is only an illusion
