Just bought a Bosch 800 series, have had it for 4 days. Opened the door before installing and there was a weird smell. This smell has not gone away and is even more putrid after running a few loads using different options (Normal, Normal + Sanitize & Crystal Dry.) This Bosch 800 replaced a 13 year old Bosch 300 series that worked great and did not smell. The dishwasher loop is correct. I can't believe they are selling this expensive P.O.S. and in reading all the complaints about smells, there should be a class action suit against Bosch about this.
Thanks for sharing the vid! I definitely will never get a Bosch again. Sad sad sad to read a ton of articles and reviews out there boasting about Bosch as the one of the best brands only to discover my clunky old one worked better even though it was on its last leg. I have more cons than pros for Bosch. The smell is just the icing on the cake that broke the Bosch delusion I fell into. Anyone reading this, do not get a Bosch. The water that is constantly sitting down there to keep the gaskets “lubed” up, the tiny tines and awkward placement of them where you can’t fit larger pots/pans/plates, the dinky utensil basket that doesn’t even fit utensils well I had to reuse the old one from my dying kenmore. The wet wet wet dishes after every cycle. It’s just a total pain in the butt. Dishwashers are supposed to be a convenience appliance not another chore on the long list of never ending home owning things we all have to worry about. They trying to be an iPhone in the market but turned out to be a blackberry/palm device, on its way out. Only positive is the quietness but hey, I’m sure 95% of new models are quiet regardless of brand. Thanks again for the vid.
We bought a new bosch 500 from lowes and just installed it last week. I have only washed two loads since installing and we do not let dishes sit for more than a day prior to washing. It smells like vomit after the wash cycle, even when completely dry after sitting empty for a day. My initial theory is that it is the plastic material or chemical composition of that plastic that they are using on the very top flat rack that maybe offgassing. It seems to be coming off the plastic on the top rack. I'm sure the issue you're describing in your video is also a common issue with dishwashers smelling but I don't that that's the root cause for a lot of these brand new Bosch machines that smell. I wonder if they didn't have to change their supply source due to manufacturing and supply chain issues and as a result they are using a material that has deviated from their legacy sources.
@@DIYPinto the smell seemed to clear up after a few months of use. We do not have this issue any longer. The washer seems to be working well with regular maintenance of just cleaning the filter out every 3 to 4 weeks. We probably run our washer 5 times per week.
Can concur. Bought a brand new Bosch in Australia yo replace an earlier (and far better but broken) Miele and at the point of installation it stinks, so hopefully it goes away as per other comment update.
Second noticeable difference is the dishes are much more wet - the dryer doesn’t seem very effective (Bosch seems to have a LOT more plastic in the machine)
I clean the filters regularly - maybe once a month - that's plenty since I rinse major gunk off the dishes before I put them in. And I use a cleaning pod - again not weekly - that's insane - but it still smells. After I run it, it's fine for a day or two but then the smell sets in. There is moldering food inside which is not at the filter. Never had this problem with other dishwashers. Last time I buy a Bosch.
@@Tilley155 No. I called Bosch and they said it is designed to be run every day. I live on my own so I run it about every four days. I just live with it: if I am going away I will run it twice (second time empty). He says clean the filter every 5 to 10 washes - I'm too lazy to do that but maybe once every couple of months. Running a cleaning tab weekly seems like way OTT for a premium dishwasher. I paid a lot extra for this Bosch and it's nuts.
Finally found a video that describes the water left over. Is there a way to stop that from happening? That’s what smells!! I clean my filter every 3 washes & I don’t have a disposal. I’ve tried every cleaner. I think it’s that water left there and when it goes thru the last dry cycle the heat makes it smell. Any thoughts would help??
My new Bosch dishwasher came with an odd smell that didn't go away after several regular dish washing cycles with Finish detergent. I just tried an Affresh dishwasher cleaner tablet with a short no-dishes 60min washing cycle and now that odd smell is gone! I'll probably use one of those cleaner tablets once a month from now on.
Since the issue is the machine design, the only thing you can do is pour something in the dishwasher to keep the bacterial growth down or something that will neutralize the smell. I heard about Lemi Shine, I might try that.
My Bosch (looks like yours) has a chemically almost plastic burning smell since day 1. It is not a moldy or bacteria kind of odor. I have tried all you suggested but it still have this chemical smell 1 year later. I can't find anyway to fix this.
I had a kitchen aid for over 15 years and I never had to clean it or use washer clean tablets. It never smelled and was great. I bought a Bosch thinking it was a better washer. Even when I clean it it smells!!! I wish I could return it.
Yes my Bosch has a smell from beginning. I clean filters too. It also has water that stands in the filter area sometimes and dishes and cups smell horrible. It cost a lot so why don’t they fix it?
Funny. None of the dishwashers I've ever owned smelled. Never had to clean any of them. I've used the special "dishwasher cleaner tabs". My Bosch stinks to high heaven. So owners are supposed to do a deep cleaning every week???? I would never recommend Bosch to anyone.
@tobywinter1 too funny! lol. Can you please subscribe to my channel? After years of making videos I am so close to making it to my FIRST 100K SUBSCRIBERS!!
I just bought an 800 series Bosch which replaced my 2004 Whirlpool gold dishwasher, and boy it has smelled since the first wash! Whats even more odd, is with my whirlpool I never selected the Dry option, yet my dishes were totally dry and no weird bad odor! This Bosch on the other hand a lot of wet dishes after the end of the cycle and some weird smelly odor is omitted from it. A bit disappointed with something made in 2024 vs 2004.... I NEVER had this bad odor with my Whirlpool... I guess I need to hang a damn Air Freshener in there! WTH...
I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're facing with your new Bosch dishwasher. Have you tried running a cleaning cycle with vinegar to get rid of the smell?
So Mr DIY Pinto shows he can "somewhat" read instructions on the diswasher cleaner. He doesnt go into the reason that the dishwasher smells bad: it cannot completely evacuate dirty water, and it can barely evaculate food particles. And this is by design. (The bad design also extends to the poor setup of the washer wands and racks.) My Bosch dishwasher will only clean dishes that have been precleaned by hand, and the more I try to let the dishwasher do, the more it will fail to clean, and the stinkier it will become. The benefit to all of this is that I have rediscovered the pleasure in hand washing dishes, which gets the job done faster and better. And uses less water! Now my dishwasher, which does liitle except fill an otherwise unsightly hole beneath my countertop, is used only when we have company.
The dishwasher should help us, not make us work harder, cleaning of the dishwasher is more complex than washing the dishes by hand. I have done EVERYTHING , including the cleaning cycle, still smells, all the time. A basic design problem - a sump pump is missing. I had a Bosh dishwasher several years ago, it was wonderful. Evidently the older design did have a sump pump built in. I want a replacement dishwasher that doesn’t smell like garbage!
My Neff dishwasher is brand new, completely clean, filter clean and ran industrial cleaner through it with white vinegar. Every cycle the dishes come out smelling like wet dog/fish/sewage. Drain pipe is installed correctly and high loop and is connected before the u bend (trap) Please help me fix it…
If it smells, it is not a high end product. It is an expensive low quality product! My Kitchen aid dishwasher requires none of those special cleaning procedures and does not stink. I ended up here researching the product faults for my daughter. I would never buy the Bosch dishwasher! JIM
All you have to do is once a month by the stuff called iron out two scoops of that once a month you'll get rid of the smells and everything else know you got a filter yeah you got to clean that at least every two weeks if you do a lot of dishes in the dishwasher mine is too much drama to take mine out older Kenmore dishwasher and it will help out your drainage system of your dishwasher out big-time

My Bosch dishwasher has had a moldy smell since day 1. This is my second Bosch dishwasher. The last one never smelled.
