The Charge 5 totally reminds me of the Xtreme 3's sound signature. Havent A-B'ed both charts side by side but totally sounds very similiar. Past generation JBLs usually rolled off earlier in the higher spectrum around 18khz, they seem to be fixing this problem with all the new ones. Awesome review. I am now waiting for my 2'nd motion boom, I am really curius how they sounds in stereo. I have 2 Sony xb40 that i use as go to speakers for partys around the camp fire, as they are desent sounding and pak some punch, and they are pretty compact so plenty of room for lager in the backpack. So now I just have to see if the bigger bass and clearer sound of the "boom" is worth sacrifise some lager and bier for, as they are kind of bulkier with the handle and the bigger body, time will tell 😜
i bought a charge 5 black in 2023 and i looked under the box and i got a TL model and recently i bought a used charge 4 black and turns out it was also TL
I like someone/Alan to explain for me about bass. Alan talks alot about upper bass is that the same as slap in the face kind of bass.. Can you still have a deep/low bass and upper bass?
Yes you can have a balance of all but its really about what dominates. People still love the xtreme 1 cause its upper bass heavy/dominate while the xtreme 3 is lowe bass dominate. Think of lower bass as cinema type bass, rumbly that vibrates through your body.
@@alanrossreviews Going off of your A/B comparisons, I really like the sound of the Sony, while Anker I own and after awhile it leaves me feeling a bit dry. Its all so subjective mate, we get people around here claiming Flip 5 is the greatness all the time, so go figure ;)
I have the XB33, great speaker with impressive sound, but it really is lacking some volume. It's barely louder than my Flip 4...other than that it's great speaker but definitly not loud enough compared with the Charge
I think Xtreme 3 is 30w on battery. It's a nice upgrade compared to Charge 4, I particularly like the angled up drivers. But I can't wait to see it being compared with Motion+ (And Motion Boom please !)
same. also from what i felt with newer speakers is that they have more intense radiation...gives me a headache, the older ones till 4.1 BT version are more mild. Sticking to my Charge 3...the rest can fap to motion plus all day :-)
Hey, I found out that there are 3 different versions of Charge 5. TL (which you have), ND and TT are there. The TT version is available from the Camouflage Charge 5 🙃
I really love your videos and bought a sony srs xb 43 after watching your reviews. I watch your videos almost daily even if I'm not looking to buy anything. But i don't understand when you use terms like upper bass, deep bass, lower bass, punchy bass etc. UA-cam and even google isn't helping either. So can anyone explain these terms to me? Because all I've found are videos explaining what frequencies bass, mids and treble belong to, but noting about upper bass, lower bass, deep bass etc.
In my videos i consider upper bass 100-200 hz, mid bass 65-100 hz and deep bass 30-65 hz. I dont measure below 30hz for these type of speakers normally because for most below that is so rolled off its just noise. Consider subwoofers are normally used at around 80hz and below. Kick drums dont go below 40hz.
Between charge 3 and charge 4 which is better regardless of the price but evaluating sound in a full range without seeing that one is monophonic and the other is worth 2.0
I was so hyped by those bass test videos of charge 5....extreme excursions were going on the PRs...someone even concluded that c5 had better bass and highs than motion+ and also louder...now i remember there is a thing called fanboyism 😂
@@alanrossreviews maybe 100% idk he doesn't say anything... he's using bass up eq so thats why c5 sounds louder idk..i think anker should release an update for deeper bass response at low volumes it has that potential
it cant produce more bass, the drivers are too small and already distorts when pushed. i have a video that will show the relative bass between them. the motion plus in custom is much louder than charge 5, in fact even the xb33 in custom is louder.
Great speaker, but I tend to lean toward the more “v-shaped” frequency response of the competitor Bose SoundLink Flex speaker. I think it is the best product Bose has ever produced for the price, not super overpriced like the other stuff Bose makes.
I got the charge 3 and 4 actually Charge 3 first Bluetooth speaker when I got my charge 4 yea I enjoy the deeper bass and the more mature sound but I missed the High end the stereo separation and especially the loudness yesh that took a mean hit so most of my questions have been answered Charge 5 is much louder than the Charge 4 deeper bass even tho on paper it's less I just wish it was stereo with a much lower price tag good God almighty that's why I don't have the Xtreme 3 to much for what it is but hopefully I can catch the charge 5 and Xtreme 3 on sale the only partyboost speaker I got is the Boombox 2 so I have to upgrade and do reviews but overall fantastic video my mom even laugh when you was imitating the kids naggin😅
@@alanrossreviews True but every speaker I got is either a JBL or Harman Kardon but Anker is killing it went it comes to best bang for buck but doesn't the 4 and 5 has deeper bass but the Anker Is much louder and I'll say hi to😄

I love the way they act the new charge 5 is now magically dust proof IP67. I’m pretty sure they have been like that for a while, however JBL saw another way to market their product haha! I guess they are struggling to market it without key features such as an aux port and a speaker phone.
Great video as always! I have the Tribit soundmax plus, its great with a clean sound, but i`m looking to get one with more open sound and better bass punch.. Maybe some of this JBL or just go straight to the Tribit Motion+?
i think you are mixing up some names there. the soundcore motion plus is the next step up from the maxsound plus but the motion boom is my choice at the price. 👍
yup, trouble is if you like the sound of the charge 3 the charge 5 is sooo much like the charge 3 but with some extra bass extension its hard to resist. however for me the charge 5 is just the wrong side of shrill in the highs for a long listen.

i dont think it does pairing.
Best sound charge 4 GG/TL alan? Thanks
i only have tl version
I just bought the charge 3, I bought the Wavelet eq app for my phone and it has that bass thump on lower volumes
good job 😁😁
Which JBL charge would you recommend buying as my first or even speaker with aux port at that price point in general,
?*
So now I just have to see if the bigger bass and clearer sound of the "boom" is worth sacrifise some lager and bier for, as they are kind of bulkier with the handle and the bigger body, time will tell 😜
they sound great as a pair, even more booomm! ☺😚🤗🤩
@@alanrossreviews Booom we like 🙂🙂👍🏻
i bought a charge 5 black in 2023 and i looked under the box and i got a TL model
and recently i bought a used charge 4 black and turns out it was also TL
I like someone/Alan to explain for me about bass. Alan talks alot about upper bass is that the same as slap in the face kind of bass.. Can you still have a deep/low bass and upper bass?
Yes you can have a balance of all but its really about what dominates. People still love the xtreme 1 cause its upper bass heavy/dominate while the xtreme 3 is lowe bass dominate. Think of lower bass as cinema type bass, rumbly that vibrates through your body.
Good stuff, really looking forward to XB33 comparison! xb33 currently going for 100 euros on amazon :)
Does the xb33 even beat the motion plus? I know oluv thinks so 🤔
@@alanrossreviews Going off of your A/B comparisons, I really like the sound of the Sony, while Anker I own and after awhile it leaves me feeling a bit dry. Its all so subjective mate, we get people around here claiming Flip 5 is the greatness all the time, so go figure ;)
The Sony xb33 sounds like a mini boombox , maybe that's why some people prefer it over the Motion Plus
But I can't wait to see it being compared with Motion+ (And Motion Boom please !)
yup....long list of requests...will try to find some time...and the db issue on side of charts will be fixed in future vids. ☺
@@alanrossreviews Thanks ! You're awesome !
Still rocking my charge 3 four years later.
you can do better now 😝
@@alanrossreviews Naa, it's still good enough for some time. Don't really need to upgrade at this moment.
No skipping ads. Great review
yup and go back watch the ads again 😁😁😁 good job 👍
It's okay to have more ads, do not expect something good for free
I still have my JBL Charge 3 and i am not gonna sell it. I love small stereo speakers.
going for silly money ebay.......
same. also from what i felt with newer speakers is that they have more intense radiation...gives me a headache, the older ones till 4.1 BT version are more mild. Sticking to my Charge 3...the rest can fap to motion plus all day :-)
lol! 😋😋
I still have my lunch money from the third grade - RH
Ik hou het gewoon bij mijn Charge 3 stereo. JBL Charge 5 klinkt lekker met meer Bas maar gaat dat een tijdje luisteren. Niet irriteren?
Great review
Thank you 👍
Can you test the JBL charge 5 with the new update
no time right now............
Hey, I found out that there are 3 different versions of Charge 5. TL (which you have), ND and TT are there. The TT version is available from the Camouflage Charge 5 🙃
good to know, thanks.
What is the difference between the three version?
My brain hurts 🥴 which is better 😫
@@Ferris8228 ND is better
@@thespeakerfreak1879 thank you very much friend
Hey Alan, for just loudness, is the Flip 5 TL as loud as the charge 5?
Nope 😊
@@alanrossreviews I went back to your old video and it looked like the Flip 5 TL was 101 DB and this charge 5 was 97 DB. Not right?
Oh and i was wondering if ur rave neo came with distortion/crackling at any volume or did i get a bad one?
no mine is fine, some distortion at max depending on track
@@alanrossreviews ah ok thank you ill send it back and get a replacement
@@alanrossreviews oh, i get it now, thanks you so much for responding. :)
Between charge 3 and charge 4 which is better regardless of the price but evaluating sound in a full range without seeing that one is monophonic and the other is worth 2.0
Neither have a balanced sound overall. C3 is brighter and more airy, c4 has bass missing from the c3
I was so hyped by those bass test videos of charge 5....extreme excursions were going on the PRs...someone even concluded that c5 had better bass and highs than motion+ and also louder...now i remember there is a thing called fanboyism 😂
It has more deep bass than the motion plus. But the motion plus will go louder so what volumes are they testing?
@@alanrossreviews maybe 100% idk he doesn't say anything... he's using bass up eq so thats why c5 sounds louder idk..i think anker should release an update for deeper bass response at low volumes it has that potential
it cant produce more bass, the drivers are too small and already distorts when pushed. i have a video that will show the relative bass between them. the motion plus in custom is much louder than charge 5, in fact even the xb33 in custom is louder.
Does Jbl charge 5 have built in microphone for phone calls ?
nope
Great speaker, but I tend to lean toward the more “v-shaped” frequency response of the competitor Bose SoundLink Flex speaker. I think it is the best product Bose has ever produced for the price, not super overpriced like the other stuff Bose makes.
Jblnoobbox3 do you do it max
But motion boom answers almost all questions, cheap, deep bass, enough headroom to eq to liking 😛 hi to mom 😁
@@alanrossreviews True but every speaker I got is either a JBL or Harman Kardon but Anker is killing it went it comes to best bang for buck but doesn't the 4 and 5 has deeper bass but the Anker Is much louder and I'll say hi to😄
Nice review brian may from queen😁😁
somebody needs to start paying me my royalties then!
Awesome! Would be interesting to see a comparison vs xb 43 👌
noted 😀
the best sound quality, tl/tt or nd/nt?
I’ll stick to my motion plus can buy two more in price of charge 5, loved my charge 3 years ago now its gone now they stole it at work😅 hey mate im waiting your review at the new tribit stormbox pro vs the normal stormbox if you have boses it will help and can you compare it to the old motion plus thanks keep up your good videos funny and informative..
Last i checked it wasn't available in UK 🇬🇧 yet. Will keep an eye out 👍
From what i experienced was, that two JBL Charge 5 connected together don't play Stereo. It's just two times mono from two directions.
you have to set stereo in the app.
@@alanrossreviews thx
Is there a way to do that without The App? I use Them with Linux and dont have The App :(
I have both 5 and 4 and some other and personalaly i love them but the 5 I feel like it has lost a little bass but way louder other than that absolutely love it
have you got the latest firmware? what version is it?
charge 5 vs megaboom 3 comparison pls!
I use a Charge 4 , Flip 4 combo sounds great 👍🏾
yup they combine well!
Alan is the Charge 5 still using a SBC codec?
Yup 😱😱😱😱
When i watch the youtube videos, i noticed that C5 has more dynamic sound than the Boom (compression is not a big issue for me). I will wait you to decide :D
The boom is actually one of the most dynamic speakers ive measured but depends how you measure it. I will go back over the last stuff i did and measure the plr lu. Will let you know what it shows 😁
@@alanrossreviews Maybe depends of EQ settings of the Boom but i rather to wait your comparison cause many comparisons can be misleading. There are so many variables...
yup surprised me but at matched loudness the charge 5 is equal or slightly more dynamic than the boom! better at lower volume.
Qual das três tem mais grave amigo Alan?❤🇧🇷
charge 5 🤗
Would love to see JBL Charge 5 VS 2 JBL Flip 5s as the cost would be very similar.
noted!
What do you think which one is better? Charge 5 or xtreme 3 ?
hum, i think maybe the x3 is an easier listen for me, the charge 5 doesnt gel well with bright tracks as its so edgy. i need to listen side by side really. but id probably get the motion boom over both of them ☺
@@alanrossreviews thanks Alan .
But I'll have to stick to JBL as motion boom isn't available in India
I love the way they act the new charge 5 is now magically dust proof IP67. I’m pretty sure they have been like that for a while, however JBL saw another way to market their product haha! I guess they are struggling to market it without key features such as an aux port and a speaker phone.
well it has to be certified as that, you cant just call it ip67. 🤷♀️
@@alanrossreviews true. Is it a new thing in speakers? I haven’t heard of many things that had that rating until recently
1976 IEC 60529
Black with ser TL great sounding speaker.
2x JBL charge 3 vs 1 JBL charge 5. Which would give deeper bass?
Why didn't you compare the three of these to a motion plus with your EQ settings?
Because i couldn't compare to everything in one video
Great video as always! I have the Tribit soundmax plus, its great with a clean sound, but i`m looking to get one with more open sound and better bass punch.. Maybe some of this JBL or just go straight to the Tribit Motion+?
i think you are mixing up some names there. the soundcore motion plus is the next step up from the maxsound plus but the motion boom is my choice at the price. 👍
@@alanrossreviews Ok got it! Thank you for the sugestion!
😅 Very funny intro! 😂
you got in earlier this time 👍
Great Speaker for the money 👌🏾
It's a relief to know that this guy's thumbs aren't as big as the thumbnail image suggests.
That wasnt his thumb 😜
I have 2 charge 5 im gonna says it sound very nice but u need to place them right its just hyper narrow sound
it's mixed feelings for the ch5...better than the older versions...but i still sticking to my ch3, bec of its overly priced tag on the ch5
yup, trouble is if you like the sound of the charge 3 the charge 5 is sooo much like the charge 3 but with some extra bass extension its hard to resist. however for me the charge 5 is just the wrong side of shrill in the highs for a long listen.
@@alanrossreviews my thots, the xb33 will come out on top of the ch5🤔
@@philjoysavio6805 but what about the m+?
@@alanrossreviews even the motion boom 🤔
Can you review the Anker soundcore Trance go vs the rave neo
they are the same speaker.....
Jbl charge 5 vs Bosé Revolve plus . 🙏🏼
Charge 3 was a milestone for bt speaker history...Successful speaker for all time...
Important BT speakers are (for me);
Bose soundlink mini
Bose Soundlink Micro
Bose soundlink revolve
B&O A1
and Beolit series
HK Onyx 5 or 6
JBL flip, Charge and Xtreme series
Sony XB series
Anker soundcore boost, motion + and boom

@@alanrossreviews I didn't buy only motion+ and boom yet but boost is great...
Charge 5 had nice look. Idk why they don’t cover all the ports with the plug
