My Mom born in 1928, has been watching since it aired in 1973, she was 45years old. And she never misses an episode. My Mom is still with us, 94 years old, and still watches it. Her birthday is in August, she will be 95. I got hooked on the show with my mom in 1977. Love ❤ 😍 it.....

On March 26, 1973 I was 21 and I had just given birth to my little baby girl. Later on that afternoon, my nurse came in to change my sheets, and she had asked me if I would mind if she turned on her story. She told me the name of it was the young and the restless, and it was a brand new show that just aired on daytime television. I told her I did not mind, and while she was working in the room I watched the very first half hour episode. The next day it came on and I watched it again… And I’m sure you can figure out the rest LOL. Believe it or not, From that day until this day I have not missed one single episode. My daughter(s) and now my granddaughter watch the show too... I’ve been hooked since day one!
Actually, a pretty nice story, really. Technically, I too like soap operas a little, mostly the themes, but especially episodes of even the 80s / now 'Dynasty'.
My store is almost exactly the same as yours but I was a senior in high school and I would go to my grandmothers house every day after school to check on her and she had me watch it with her that day and from that day forward I’ve never missed an episode I do miss my grandmother but when I watch it I feel like she’s sitting right next to me

I was 5 and I remember it like yesterday. Wasn't 5000 channels back then. Most houses only had 1 tv, especially if there were kids in the house. It was like this. In our house, wake up, whoever turned the TV on got first dibs on the shows. If you left the house, too bad! Then when Mom n Dad got around....well if they wanted to watch something, what were we gonna do? Durring the daytime, game shows and then when that Y R piano came on, either sit down and behave, snacks, or take a nap because until 4 it was Soap city! Don't mess your TV at night up by messin' with Mom and her Soaps! 🤗🤔🤣😁

Here’s an unpopular opinion: I actually kind of like the 1999-2003 intro. It’s jazzy and kind of spices the whole show up. Yes it was different but it added an aspect that wasn’t previously there.
I wish that one of the openings selected for this video included Neil, Drucilla, Malcom, Danny, Cricket, Shelia, Lauren, Jill....those were my favorites by in the day. I still love the Abbotts and the Newmans. ❤

I also remember them whenever I stay with them when I was attending school or when we have breaks from school. gosh this brings back so many memories, my mother used to watch this show religiously ,over the years she didnt catch up that much with it due to various circumstances but she is always laughing at the fact that she will pass away and it will still not end anytime soon.
My grandma has been avidly watching this since it's release in 1973. And we're in 2019 and she's still watching it every week. I hate this show with a burning passion. Been hearing this theme every morning since I was a kid to now. But I'll miss it when she's gone
Y&R premiered my freshman year in high school. The Brooks sisters and Snapper Foster were so different than my Grandmother's soaps. Always loved the theme song. Glad they quit the era with the saxophone and went back to sounding more like the original.

Last time I checked, my really nice grandmother is still alive- I have short, but somehow nicely preserved memories of being a kid and hearing the 90s closing theme, sometime after really enjoying swimming in her backyard. As an amatuer writer, probably since I was 12, I've LOVE writing stories, SO, I've gradually come to notice from pre-WW2 history, that my family's roots in our own REAL soap opera in our lives traces most likely to the Sudetenland, Hungary and not nearly as much _German_ roots I used to think. Yeah, Hitler turned into the biggest European bully ever seen, other than the actually even (quietly) worse Stalin. Most guys hate soap operas and every single detail about them, BUT, these themes are so incredibly bitter-sweet frankly. Although I somehow still like the 80s version of 'Dynasty', yeah, there's a damn reason why most guys easily hate soap operas: we just want to cut the crap and fix problems BUT, we tend to ignore our own B.S. sometimes- SO, no wonder why many men DO star in soap operas anydamnhow. lol.

I remember my mama as kid. She never missed a single episode from the 70s and 80s. Love those times. Soap operas have more essence in their stories. My Dad was also an avid fan of streets of san Francisco, hill street blues and Kojac. When I was a kid I loved the million dollar man, buck rogers and bionic woman and wonder woman. TV was great then even the wonderful world of disney TV series.
I watch this with my grandmother when I was growing up and I still watch it and call my grandmother on Sundays and we discussed what happened............
Presently they have color shots of the cast members and show only the cast members that appear in that day's episode. They only once changed the original theme to that more jazzy theme. I was glad when the switched back to the original.

Heard this theme every morning from 1984-1990. Then heard it everyday when it I was on school break until graduation from high school in 2003. The jazz rendition of this theme pissed my mother off so bad that she emailed CBS to demand they change it back, well, they never responded to her strongly worded email, but I guess they listened to her since it changed back to the original not even 3 years after the jazz version aired.

The great Jeanne Cooper died May 8th 2013 but her character Katherine died a few months later so she was still included in the credits till mid-2013.

Here’s an unpopular opinion: I actually kind of like the 1999-2003 intro. It’s jazzy and kind of spices the whole show up. Yes it was different but it added an aspect that wasn’t previously there.
I wish that one of the openings selected for this video included Neil, Drucilla, Malcom, Danny, Cricket, Shelia, Lauren, Jill....those were my favorites by in the day. I still love the Abbotts and the Newmans. ❤

84-90 was awesome home sick or holidays from School would watch it at lunch we had in this country my Mum watched it, we only had 2channels it was either before or after other super Soap Opera in Days Of Our Lives 2hours we had it on at times over the years but we haven't had it back on taken off since 09
Oh my gosh, this brings back so many memories when I was a young child at the babysitters house and she would have soaps on in the afternoon. I don’t think I’ll ever forget any of the theme songs.
Happy 50th Anniversary to this show, The Young and the Restless. This show has been airing on CBS since the 70's.

This show and The Bold and The Beautiful are always my great aunts' and my great grandmother's favorite shows of all time.
I also remember them whenever I stay with them when I was attending school or when we have breaks from school.

gosh this brings back so many memories, my mother used to watch this show religiously ,over the years she didnt catch up that much with it due to various circumstances but she is always laughing at the fact that she will pass away and it will still not end anytime soon.

My grandma has been avidly watching this since it's release in 1973. And we're in 2019 and she's still watching it every week. I hate this show with a burning passion. Been hearing this theme every morning since I was a kid to now. But I'll miss it when she's gone

Back when I was in the kindergarten I used to watch this with my grandfather and my grandmother before my grandfather passed away with breast cancer.
Y&R premiered my freshman year in high school. The Brooks sisters and Snapper Foster were so different than my Grandmother's soaps. Always loved the theme song. Glad they quit the era with the saxophone and went back to sounding more like the original.
I remember between the (3) major networks when there were at least 15 + soap operas between 11am - 4pm, now it’s only (4 ) as of 2020
Though i could not tell you a single plot, i remember watching these on days I was sick and stayed home from school. For some reason I remember the theme playing through twice. I always thought this one was the prettiest

Last time I checked, my really nice grandmother is still alive-
I have short, but somehow nicely preserved memories of being a kid and hearing the 90s closing theme, sometime after really enjoying swimming in her backyard.
As an amatuer writer, probably since I was 12, I've LOVE writing stories, SO, I've gradually come to notice from pre-WW2 history, that my family's roots in our own REAL soap opera in our lives traces most likely to the Sudetenland, Hungary and not nearly as much _German_ roots I used to think.

Most guys hate soap operas and every single detail about them, BUT, these themes are so incredibly bitter-sweet frankly.
Although I somehow still like the 80s version of 'Dynasty', yeah, there's a damn reason why most guys easily hate soap operas: we just want to cut the crap and fix problems BUT, we tend to ignore our own B.S. sometimes- SO, no wonder why many men DO star in soap operas anydamnhow. lol.

I remember my mama as kid. She never missed a single episode from the 70s and 80s. Love those times. Soap operas have more essence in their stories. My Dad was also an avid fan of streets of san Francisco, hill street blues and Kojac. When I was a kid I loved the million dollar man, buck rogers and bionic woman and wonder woman. TV was great then even the wonderful world of disney TV series.
I watch this with my grandmother when I was growing up and I still watch it and call my grandmother on Sundays and we discussed what happened............

Presently they have color shots of the cast members and show only the cast members that appear in that day's episode. They only once changed the original theme to that more jazzy theme. I was glad when the switched back to the original.
Many school breaks and summers were spent with my grandma and the soaps on CBS. From 12:30-3:00pm you shut up or went to play outside.
I am so glad the producers decided to stop using the music of 1999-2003.

I remember when my Mom used to watch this. Don't remember the show at all but I loved this song.
Heard this theme every morning from 1984-1990. Then heard it everyday when it I was on school break until graduation from high school in 2003. The jazz rendition of this theme pissed my mother off so bad that she emailed CBS to demand they change it back, well, they never responded to her strongly worded email, but I guess they listened to her since it changed back to the original not even 3 years after the jazz version aired.
My mom watched this show everyday when I was a kid. Watching this at 18 feels different
