so here is my idea for cena retirement tour: at the rumble cena is eliminated by bron breakker who remains the ic champion , because of this cena gains an opportunity for the title at mania in elimination chamber and in night two he beats bron becoming grand slam champion, he holds the title for a month and a half having open challenges with the new blood (ilja, melo, hell even trick who could debut on the raw after mania) losing it at the ppv before money in the bank, then cena tries to enter the ladder match for the briefcase but either punk or orton who are the world champions costs him the match so cena decides to go for number 17 winning the title at summerslam, after that the only thing left will be him entering war games and his final match against orton.
However the first 10 months go, I believe Cena's last opponent should be CM Punk. They would've been arch rivals for years if things had turned out differently. While their methods differ, they are both men of honor who never bent the knee to anyone. They are tied 6-6 in canon one-on-one matches. Cena comes out and says he's conquered every obstacle in front of him except one, and he needs that last victory to gain closure on his career. Punk agrees to an honor duel. You have it in Chicago, with the PLE just like Sam is talking about. Presto.
What most people don't understand is that the first story is going to be about winning a match in 5 years. Johncena has not won a singles match in the last 5 years and he is not going to randomly win a match - THIS IS A STORY which will build to him getting his first win
They have been building this since last year when Cena started mentioning on the weeks leading up to his match against Solo that perhaps he doesn't have it in him anymore, that he was thinking about retiring. We had an amazing moment with the crowd chanting "you still got it" to which Cena replied with "what if I don't?". This is a story of a man that was once unbeatable now struggling to keep up with the younger stars, this is a story of him finding himself again and regaining his confidence back, leading to the return of Big Match John.
It might not happen at wm because cena might be facing someone else.....it's cena last year he can still face cm punk they got backlash...money in the bank summerslam....clash at the castle....

Or Lesnar. They have even more history than Cena/Punk. Cena and Brock started in OVW together. Became the biggest stars on Smackdown during the Ruthless Aggression era. Brock came back the first time and F5'd Cena. It makes more sense to me. Not that I'd hate a Punk match, but the last one should be against Brock. Maybe add in Orton and Batista as tributes to that OVW class, idk
@SJKIE I believe Batista really isn't gonna come back to wrestling though and frankly he shouldn't. He already was the worst wrestler of the 3 in their primes, he'd be the oldest in the match and he lost so much weight for acting.
I dont know about last match. But I can tell you whag should be his final Mania match...CM Punk -Punk wins the World Title off Gunther at the Rumble. Same night John wins and ties with Austin for most all-time -Punk and Cena have one final championship match and it's finally at Mania. Also, Punk finally gets his Mania main event. -Cena breaks the record of 17 World Championships at WM and holds for one final run thru 2025. Thoughts anyone?
It's gotta be Randy instead of Punk in that scenario and imo Randy needs to take the title off Cody to take him to 15. Nothing more iconic from the old era than Super Cena vs Menace Orton bruh

I just genuinely hope its not some BS of putting talent over like the last run. I read a comment somewhere and the guy said he wanted Super Cena back burying everyone left right and centre and i couldnt agree more. Give the GOAT a title run and let him do his thing instead of making him look weak and get squashed by new talent. Its not going to hurt anyones stock if they lose to him

Honestly, if you want a final moment similar to Flair vs HBK, you gotta go with Randy. The guy standing across John in his final match ever is the same guy that was standing across John 20+ years prior when they were both getting started in the industry in OVW. All these years later and they're some of the most accomplished wrestlers in WWE history and have more than cemented themselves as GOATs and are each other's biggest rivals.
My suggestions for those who should retire Cena. 1.Kevin Owens- because he beat Cena in his rost main roster match 2.Randy Ortan- due to there long history 3.CM Punk- same reason as Randy 4.Trick Williams- he has a lot of steam behind him and is gonna go far 5.The Miz- honestly I don't want this one, but they have a VERY log history 6.Cody- A true genuine sign of passing the torch
I would like it if he wins the title on his last match and then comes on raw the next day and just lays the title in the middle of the ring and retires.
Cena vs Orton vs Lesnar should be the last match. I know, I know, triple threat matches never leave us feeling completely happy. But this is the storybook ending when you think about it. All of them were part of the same OVW class. Besides Batista, they're the 3 that became the biggest WWE stars and ultimately made that the greatest developmental class of all time. Randy is in the 4th quarter of his career, Brock isn’t a spring chicken anymore and likely would only be brought back for a special occasion like this. I understand the logic of him vs Punk and of course I think they should absolutely book a match for them next year. But I think there's more depth with him, Brock and Randy. I'd say do a fatal 4 way with Edge involved but....yeah
Let's see how the Cena farewell tour plays out. Would be great to see nostalgia matches with Randy, Brock, Punk, etc. But would also love to see him have matches with the young stars.
Here’s my take……. Even though Cena might retire fully from in ring competition, he might have the occasional match to put over another talent, or put someone over during a promo… but he won’t 100% retire, especially with the WWE, I still see John with the company for another 10,20,30 even 40 years or more…… his name value is still extremely high right now and could even value much more when he steps down as a in ring competitor

I loved Cena and he's been my favorite wrestler since 2006 and I look forward to all of these stories going towards his retirement. I will be extremely emotional for his final match. He's like my spirit animal. I agree his final match should be with Randy Orton and I have a feeling he will be 17 time world champion and break the record.
If it is a “new” story or feud of sorts I really think McIntyre is being slept on as the guy. To me an extremely young guy like Bron sounds great in theory, but I think you need to have 100% confidence that whoever it is can 1) handle to pressure of that moment and 2) capitalize on the momentum afterwards and I think Drew is the primary heel that comes to mind for me at least, especially after what he was able to do with Punk
I would love to see a big future top guy like Bron Breakker to be John Cena’s last opponent as a passing of the torch moment. To solidify that Bron Breakker is the who will carry the company for the next 15 to 20 years
Like I like the whole idea of Cena versus Orden at wrestlemania but there’s only one problem if you have them face against each other at someone is going to boo the other and it’s gonna be a whole bunch of chaos and it could be a disaster so I don’t know

I feel like he should at least win the IC title, but build a storyline into it. We can hold off on the possible 17th world title reign later. In terms of who retires him, I feel like it should be someone who can potentially push WWE to the next level in the next five to 10 years.
It’s so interesting how everyone hated how Cena and Orton fought millions of times in the ruthless aggression era, and now they want that to be the last one lol. That might be too easy/lazy. Bron Brekkar, Gunther, or Drew McIntyre putting Cena down for good would be better for the roster.
There's serious mental re-mmhmm-ation going on in WWE if he doesn't return as a heel. I have this grand vision of him facing Cody for the title and subtly cheating to win it. Cody is a good sport, though, and he wants to shake hands with Cena after the match. He sticks his hand out, John sees it, smiles, and starts walking toward Cody with his hand in the air ready to bring it in for the shake... and boom, "you can't see me" taunt right in his face. Then he spends now until WM41 as the heel we've always wanted. He turns face at WM, then has one more match as a face against someone, maybe in a tag match with his WM opponent as his partner. This is low-hanging fruit, people.
Try to grt him for like 3 extra dates. Wins the title around MITB, then does a version of the Flair retirement. "When I lose this, I'm done." Someone becomes a first time champ hy retiring Cena. And if you can hold of past when hes supposedly done, then its a suprise when it happens.
I think there's a few callbacks I'd use and twist. In the final match with randy have him mouth "I hate you" then punt him before the finish. Be a brilliant finish imo
Bron breakker eliminates him at the rumble, which sets him up for wrestlemania. He wins the IC title. Then has an open challenge with all the young guys come up including Hayes, Trick, Ilja, Paul. He drops it after 2 or 3 months. Then goes after the world or WWE title n wins it. While hes world champ he takes on all his classic rivals or maybe even have a fatal4way... Orton vs punk vs styles vs cena, can also add miz in it
You can’t top flair vs Rick, only reason is this run for cena has an end date, when flair and Shawn had there match the story was Shawn was ending his career by beating him the match and forcing rick to retire, cenas last match is likely gonna be booked to the audience as “Cenas final match” which is great im sure it’s gonna work but, it’s not gonna be the same type of emotional story that was rick vs Shawn, or even when undertaker beat Shawn, like those were story wise told as forced retirement, cenas is gonna be more like stings retirement in aew, where it’s told as his final match
I feel like Cena and Orton know A LOT more than what they are giving (in regards to Cena’s retirement) Both of them have good relationships with H and I don’t believe for one second H doesn’t give them insights into what’s going on.

since it's christmas imma do some fantasy booking. I'd start out by having Cena return at Raw on Netflix. announcing his intentions for the year, only to be absolutely decimated by Bron Breakker. They run a program spanning both Raw and Smackdown, resulting in a match at the Rumble. The build could be about Bron saying how Cena doesn't need the rumble/ taking away opportunities for new blood like himself. Cena wins the IC title, giving him the grand slam to start the year! He could then run open challenges again like he did for the US title, allowing endless opportunities for wrestlers to step up and create a mini storyline to get the belt off John. (Perfect, PERFECT, way for Dirty Dom to win his first Intercontinental championship.) He could then announce his intentions to qualify for a world title match via the elimination chamber, narrowly getting the last place in the match. Only to fall short due to something crazy like being obliterated by someone like Mcintyre, Mystery attacker, or my personal choice, Oba Femi. This would lead to Mania, where he could win clean in a 35-40 minute match with either an up and coming superstar like Femi, or an established superstar like Drew. Once Wrestlemania is over, fresh off a victory, he could declare his intentions to becoming the record breaking 17 time world champion. This could lead to a confrontation between him and the newly crowned world champ, (if i was booking,) CM Punk. This storyline obviously needs to run it back at least for a short while during the retirement run. and that's all for now lol
Frankly, I would most want Cena to win the title at SummerSlam(he beat the Rock at Metlife for the title at Mania 29), then does the open challenge until Survivor Series where he is attacked and storyline injured by Jacob Fatu. Jacob beats him in Boston at the December PLE, then drops to Roman at Mania 42.
CM Punk in the main event of WM (night 1) for the World Heavyweight Championship makes more sense than Randy Orton, story wise. As good as a Randy match would be, there's nothing gained from having another match. I dont want a one off sportsmanship match, i want a feud, a real feud. Punk has the ability to generate a real feud, given their history, and prior comments made. Cena did go to Hollywood, and Punk left the WWE. They both can continue on the "NY Yankees" promo note from years ago.
I would say look at either the younr superstars on the main roster or someone currently in NXT. So his last match is a passing of the torch match. I would also have to say one of John Cena's matches has to be either a tag match with R Truth or a match between the two. Also Drew Mcintyre v John Cena. As far as i know they have never had a one on one match. They have had matches where it was 4 or 5 guys going up against each other and even a 6 man tag match. But never a 1 on 1 match. Joe Hendry should also face John Cena.
The whole randy/cena story is that Randy has always been a natural , a thirs generation Wrestler , have great connection , got handeled everything . And then there's Cena who started at the same time as Randy , at a time where orton thoughts that it will be all about him . There it's another hard working guy slightly better than him , which make orton jealous . Randy still think that he can break the record , so when Cena is close to win the belt . It's at that moment the orton will interfere and turn heel
I still feel Cena should go heel once in his illustrious career. And he can because otherwise it will just be a feel good story rather than a roller coaster with emotions up and down. And also we'll have something new from john

It will probably be Randy to retire Cena, but if it’s a freshly heel-turned Cody? That could be a money-maker of a match. The New Superman growing jealous and turning on his predecessor because of it? It would be one hell of a way to start a new gimmick.
If I remember correctly, Cena and Orton are dead even in the W-L column at PPV/PLEs. It sort of writes itself like the ultimate grudge match. One final hurrah to prove, once and for all, between the two of them, who the "better man" is. And honestly? If Cena wins, it should be to give him his 17th world title. If Orton wins, then ORTON should go on to win a 17th somewhere down the line. To me, this seems like an amazing match for a show like SummerSlam. As for who ultimately retires Cena, I think Cena would want it to be a major passing the torch moment, giving a younger talent their first world title. It COULD be someone like Sami, but I think it'd be better to be someone like Bronn Breakker or Trick Williams. I'd also LOVE to see Cena and AJ Styles have another match. By my count, they are currently 2-2 in singles matches, and while their rivalry wasn't quite as epic as his rivalry with Punk or Orton, it did result in one of Cena's best matches at the Royal Rumble where he won his 16th title.
I feel like Cena could become money in the bank, cash in on Cody and break the record, this could trigger the Cody heel turn or he stays face and we have a face vs face maybe months later after Cena defends the tittle while Cody works his way back into the tittle picture that would be epic and authentic it'll be a passing of the torch for Cody to be the ultimate baby face
I actually agree I think he should go on a losing streak in big matches until Wrestlemania, where he give us that heel turn finally, go on a clinic until summerslam where he wins #17 and then at the height, have a young baby face beat him but he turns back into a baby face and retires.

I think we all agree Randy should be his last opponent. I think CM Punk would be a good match at some point. Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns come to mind as well. Also, it'd be nice for one night if Edge would be permitted to ATLEAST BE PRESENT for Cena's last match. It'd be even more special if it were against Randy considering the history Edge has with both of them.
I need Cena’s last match to be in a losing effort against Mr. MITB, Bron Breakker for the WHC. A simple singles match, no run-ins, no fancy stips, just a clean lose to a proposed future HOFer to conclude his career.
I wish for Dom and Cena to have an actual Feud. Cena's first biggest rivals as his Thuganomics character was Rey and Eddie, and Rey was a tag partner of his during the early part of the Smackdown 6 Era. I think it would be an interesting way to get Dominick into a really awesome feud, and either push him towards a baby face similar to Eddie, or at least give him more direction when it comes to storylines
The common answer I'm seeing here is Randy Orton. I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I'd rather see them face one another at Wrestlemania 41, since they never got their 1v1 with each other on the grandest stage. I believe the person that should "retire" John Cena is Cody Rhodes. I know Cody has already been gifted the keys to the kingdom after dethroning Roman's legendary title reign at WM40, and he's been WWE's poster boy for the last two years. But when you look at it from abroad, Cody meets the criteria (similar to HBK fitting the criteria for Flair) and WWE has the opportunity to tell a unique story that nobody else could possibly tell with John. Cena has been a top babyface for 20 years now, never once turning heel during his time at the top. Since Cody's return to WWE, he's tried being a modern-day Cena by being such a great person both on and off the camera. Both have shown signs of fury both on the mic and in the ring that make people believe they could be great heels, and at times have teased it. The biggest criticism of Cena's career is he never stepped away from the Superman role and tried being the villain during the height of his career. Cody has been back in WWE for 2.5 years now and is at the top of the mountain, but you can tell the audience is starting to grow tired of his superhero champion shtick. Imagine around late 2025, Cena asks Cody to be his final opponent. The idea behind this match is for John to figuratively pass the torch to Cody, making him WWE's newest "Superman". They spend several weeks complimenting each other, but during that time too there's a bunch of outside noise about how Cody doesn't have John's championship pedigree and can never hold this company up on his own (by now Cody will have lost the WWE title and will have failed to regain it). The time comes for Cena vs. Cody, either at MSG, Boston or somewhere of significance. They put on a banger of a match, but the crowd is actively rooting for Cena (similar to WM18 crowd going for Hogan over The Rock). During the match you can see it start eating at Cody. Then there comes a point towards the end where the referee is knocked out temporarily. Cena is starting to get hyped up to set up his finisher, but Cody has the opportunity to grab a weapon (Cena's chain) and use it to regain the momentum. As Cena picks him up to go for the AA, Cody decides to lowblow Cena and use the chain wrapped around his fist to knock John to his knees. Cody goes full Homelander by setting a chair in the middle of the ring and delivers a Crossroads onto it, followed by pinning Cena. Instead of handing the torch to Cody as the company's next Superman, Cody instead uses the torch to set the wrestling world ablaze by becoming WWE's version of Homelander, thus creating the biggest heel turn since Hogan joining NWO (if not biggest turn ever) and sparking greater intrigue in his character than even Roman's "tribal chief" heel return/run.
This is a illusion idea but I would love that the last match would be a Triple Threat I Quit match Cena vs Orton vs Edge ufff I would love it maybe only in my dreams 😪

However the first 10 months go, I believe Cena's last opponent should be CM Punk. They would've been arch rivals for years if things had turned out differently. While their methods differ, they are both men of honor who never bent the knee to anyone. They are tied 6-6 in canon one-on-one matches. Cena comes out and says he's conquered every obstacle in front of him except one, and he needs that last victory to gain closure on his career. Punk agrees to an honor duel. You have it in Chicago, with the PLE just like Sam is talking about. Presto.

Honestly, if you want a final moment similar to Flair vs HBK, you gotta go with Randy. The guy standing across John in his final match ever is the same guy that was standing across John 20+ years prior when they were both getting started in the industry in OVW. All these years later and they're some of the most accomplished wrestlers in WWE history and have more than cemented themselves as GOATs and are each other's biggest rivals.
I think it will be both. Just as they both Suggest, 2-3 big stories with One-off matches in between that ALSO help push those stories
My suggestions for those who should retire Cena.
1.Kevin Owens- because he beat Cena in his rost main roster match
2.Randy Ortan- due to there long history
3.CM Punk- same reason as Randy
4.Trick Williams- he has a lot of steam behind him and is gonna go far
5.The Miz- honestly I don't want this one, but they have a VERY log history
6.Cody- A true genuine sign of passing the torch

Cena vs Orton vs Lesnar should be the last match. I know, I know, triple threat matches never leave us feeling completely happy. But this is the storybook ending when you think about it.
All of them were part of the same OVW class. Besides Batista, they're the 3 that became the biggest WWE stars and ultimately made that the greatest developmental class of all time.
Randy is in the 4th quarter of his career, Brock isn’t a spring chicken anymore and likely would only be brought back for a special occasion like this.
I understand the logic of him vs Punk and of course I think they should absolutely book a match for them next year. But I think there's more depth with him, Brock and Randy. I'd say do a fatal 4 way with Edge involved but....yeah

Even though Cena might retire fully from in ring competition, he might have the occasional match to put over another talent, or put someone over during a promo… but he won’t 100% retire, especially with the WWE, I still see John with the company for another 10,20,30 even 40 years or more…… his name value is still extremely high right now and could even value much more when he steps down as a in ring competitor

I loved Cena and he's been my favorite wrestler since 2006 and I look forward to all of these stories going towards his retirement. I will be extremely emotional for his final match. He's like my spirit animal. I agree his final match should be with Randy Orton and I have a feeling he will be 17 time world champion and break the record.
If it is a “new” story or feud of sorts I really think McIntyre is being slept on as the guy. To me an extremely young guy like Bron sounds great in theory, but I think you need to have 100% confidence that whoever it is can 1) handle to pressure of that moment and 2) capitalize on the momentum afterwards and I think Drew is the primary heel that comes to mind for me at least, especially after what he was able to do with Punk

I feel like he should at least win the IC title, but build a storyline into it. We can hold off on the possible 17th world title reign later. In terms of who retires him, I feel like it should be someone who can potentially push WWE to the next level in the next five to 10 years.
It’s so interesting how everyone hated how Cena and Orton fought millions of times in the ruthless aggression era, and now they want that to be the last one lol. That might be too easy/lazy. Bron Brekkar, Gunther, or Drew McIntyre putting Cena down for good would be better for the roster.
There's serious mental re-mmhmm-ation going on in WWE if he doesn't return as a heel. I have this grand vision of him facing Cody for the title and subtly cheating to win it. Cody is a good sport, though, and he wants to shake hands with Cena after the match. He sticks his hand out, John sees it, smiles, and starts walking toward Cody with his hand in the air ready to bring it in for the shake... and boom, "you can't see me" taunt right in his face. Then he spends now until WM41 as the heel we've always wanted. He turns face at WM, then has one more match as a face against someone, maybe in a tag match with his WM opponent as his partner.

I'd start out by having Cena return at Raw on Netflix. announcing his intentions for the year, only to be absolutely decimated by Bron Breakker. They run a program spanning both Raw and Smackdown, resulting in a match at the Rumble. The build could be about Bron saying how Cena doesn't need the rumble/ taking away opportunities for new blood like himself. Cena wins the IC title, giving him the grand slam to start the year!
He could then run open challenges again like he did for the US title, allowing endless opportunities for wrestlers to step up and create a mini storyline to get the belt off John. (Perfect, PERFECT, way for Dirty Dom to win his first Intercontinental championship.)
He could then announce his intentions to qualify for a world title match via the elimination chamber, narrowly getting the last place in the match. Only to fall short due to something crazy like being obliterated by someone like Mcintyre, Mystery attacker, or my personal choice, Oba Femi. This would lead to Mania, where he could win clean in a 35-40 minute match with either an up and coming superstar like Femi, or an established superstar like Drew.
Once Wrestlemania is over, fresh off a victory, he could declare his intentions to becoming the record breaking 17 time world champion. This could lead to a confrontation between him and the newly crowned world champ, (if i was booking,) CM Punk. This storyline obviously needs to run it back at least for a short while during the retirement run.

Frankly, I would most want Cena to win the title at SummerSlam(he beat the Rock at Metlife for the title at Mania 29), then does the open challenge until Survivor Series where he is attacked and storyline injured by Jacob Fatu. Jacob beats him in Boston at the December PLE, then drops to Roman at Mania 42.
CM Punk in the main event of WM (night 1) for the World Heavyweight Championship makes more sense than Randy Orton, story wise. As good as a Randy match would be, there's nothing gained from having another match. I dont want a one off sportsmanship match, i want a feud, a real feud. Punk has the ability to generate a real feud, given their history, and prior comments made. Cena did go to Hollywood, and Punk left the WWE. They both can continue on the "NY Yankees" promo note from years ago.
He needs to break the record mainly because Flair has done so much to tarnish his legacy. Otherwise, I would've said leave them tied.
I would say look at either the younr superstars on the main roster or someone currently in NXT. So his last match is a passing of the torch match. I would also have to say one of John Cena's matches has to be either a tag match with R Truth or a match between the two. Also Drew Mcintyre v John Cena. As far as i know they have never had a one on one match. They have had matches where it was 4 or 5 guys going up against each other and even a 6 man tag match. But never a 1 on 1 match. Joe Hendry should also face John Cena.
The whole randy/cena story is that Randy has always been a natural , a thirs generation Wrestler , have great connection , got handeled everything . And then there's Cena who started at the same time as Randy , at a time where orton thoughts that it will be all about him .

It sort of writes itself like the ultimate grudge match. One final hurrah to prove, once and for all, between the two of them, who the "better man" is.

To me, this seems like an amazing match for a show like SummerSlam.
As for who ultimately retires Cena, I think Cena would want it to be a major passing the torch moment, giving a younger talent their first world title.

I'd also LOVE to see Cena and AJ Styles have another match. By my count, they are currently 2-2 in singles matches, and while their rivalry wasn't quite as epic as his rivalry with Punk or Orton, it did result in one of Cena's best matches at the Royal Rumble where he won his 16th title.
I feel like Cena could become money in the bank, cash in on Cody and break the record, this could trigger the Cody heel turn or he stays face and we have a face vs face maybe months later after Cena defends the tittle while Cody works his way back into the tittle picture that would be epic and authentic it'll be a passing of the torch for Cody to be the ultimate baby face

I think we all agree Randy should be his last opponent. I think CM Punk would be a good match at some point. Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns come to mind as well. Also, it'd be nice for one night if Edge would be permitted to ATLEAST BE PRESENT for Cena's last match. It'd be even more special if it were against Randy considering the history Edge has with both of them.
I need Cena’s last match to be in a losing effort against Mr. MITB, Bron Breakker for the WHC. A simple singles match, no run-ins, no fancy stips, just a clean lose to a proposed future HOFer to conclude his career.

I wish for Dom and Cena to have an actual Feud. Cena's first biggest rivals as his Thuganomics character was Rey and Eddie, and Rey was a tag partner of his during the early part of the Smackdown 6 Era.
I think it would be an interesting way to get Dominick into a really awesome feud, and either push him towards a baby face similar to Eddie, or at least give him more direction when it comes to storylines

The common answer I'm seeing here is Randy Orton. I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I'd rather see them face one another at Wrestlemania 41, since they never got their 1v1 with each other on the grandest stage.
I believe the person that should "retire" John Cena is Cody Rhodes. I know Cody has already been gifted the keys to the kingdom after dethroning Roman's legendary title reign at WM40, and he's been WWE's poster boy for the last two years. But when you look at it from abroad, Cody meets the criteria (similar to HBK fitting the criteria for Flair) and WWE has the opportunity to tell a unique story that nobody else could possibly tell with John.
Cena has been a top babyface for 20 years now, never once turning heel during his time at the top. Since Cody's return to WWE, he's tried being a modern-day Cena by being such a great person both on and off the camera. Both have shown signs of fury both on the mic and in the ring that make people believe they could be great heels, and at times have teased it.
The biggest criticism of Cena's career is he never stepped away from the Superman role and tried being the villain during the height of his career. Cody has been back in WWE for 2.5 years now and is at the top of the mountain, but you can tell the audience is starting to grow tired of his superhero champion shtick.
Imagine around late 2025, Cena asks Cody to be his final opponent. The idea behind this match is for John to figuratively pass the torch to Cody, making him WWE's newest "Superman". They spend several weeks complimenting each other, but during that time too there's a bunch of outside noise about how Cody doesn't have John's championship pedigree and can never hold this company up on his own (by now Cody will have lost the WWE title and will have failed to regain it).
The time comes for Cena vs. Cody, either at MSG, Boston or somewhere of significance. They put on a banger of a match, but the crowd is actively rooting for Cena (similar to WM18 crowd going for Hogan over The Rock). During the match you can see it start eating at Cody. Then there comes a point towards the end where the referee is knocked out temporarily. Cena is starting to get hyped up to set up his finisher, but Cody has the opportunity to grab a weapon (Cena's chain) and use it to regain the momentum. As Cena picks him up to go for the AA, Cody decides to lowblow Cena and use the chain wrapped around his fist to knock John to his knees. Cody goes full Homelander by setting a chair in the middle of the ring and delivers a Crossroads onto it, followed by pinning Cena.
Instead of handing the torch to Cody as the company's next Superman, Cody instead uses the torch to set the wrestling world ablaze by becoming WWE's version of Homelander, thus creating the biggest heel turn since Hogan joining NWO (if not biggest turn ever) and sparking greater intrigue in his character than even Roman's "tribal chief" heel return/run.
Cena deserves to win his 17th title feel like it wouldnt give him the flowers he deserves if he doesnt get it
